Chapter 1 - Pilot

I never thought that I was worthy of a long term relationship. Somehow, I always dreamed that the man I loved would come along sooner or later, but I just wasn't sure when. I was young, immature, and I didn't know what I wanted in life. I was lost. I have traveled from state to state, trying to find myself and to shed this image that I was NOT a mature, responsible man....I couldn't do it, though.

The year 2014 changed my life. I must say that Grindr can really change things, although it's an smartphone app mostly used for sex. I met a man who changed my life, and although things may not be what they were before, I still love him.

My name is Maxwell Trevino, and this is my story.

I had just moved back to Florida from California in early 2013, and to be honest, I had no idea what I was doing with my life. I had just broken someone's heart when I decided to return home. I was lost, jobless, homeless and didn't know what to do. Then again, I was a 23 year old who dropped out of college with no intentions of going back. I wanted to come home badly, but did not know where to start in order to get established. Thankfully, my best friend Jenrose stepped in and let me sleep on her couch until I found a job. Within a month, I had my own apartment across the hall from her. I was established and loved my job.

That was in 2013. My best friend and I were both single, and had no men in our lives. We only had each other, and at the time, we were okay with that. That soon changed when I decided to use Grindr to try to find men. Although I didn't find a relationship there, I did date a few friends who I knew previously. One left to join the military and the other cheated on me, so I was back where I started. I was done, and wanted to focus on me.

Early March 2014, I decided to go back to Grindr and look again. Now....we gay folk already know the BIG RULE of the dating apps....NO PIC, NO CHAT, right? Well, I stood by that...except one time. Someone messaged me, telling me how I looked different in each picture I posted, and that he liked what he saw. I was flattered but disappointed that he did not have a profile picture. I was seconds away from blocking him until something in my gut said, "MAX, STOP! Talk to this guy....something will come of it." Not knowing how this would go, I responded with a simple "Thank You", and that was it.

At the time, I did NOT know that it would become something so big. I was totally clueless. After a little basic chat (nothing sex related), I decided to cut the conversation and to go on with my day. After that initial message, he messaged me quite regularly. I didn't mind. He was a nice guy, and had great conversation, so it didn't bother me one bit. He eventually sent me a picture, but from the picture quality, I could tell that he was older than me. That did not bother me one bit. In honesty, I loved older guys, because....they do things right in bed, and that is a FACT. Don't argue with me.

Days passed, and although we chatted on Grindr, I never offered to meet him, as I really didn't want to at the time. I worked a part time job at one of the local gay bars, and I stopped by one weekend to sing some karaoke. I love to sing, so I figured I would go. Jenrose had to work that next morning, so I went solo. My drinking that night was extremely heavy to the point that I didn't remember calling Uber to bring me home. What I do remember is sitting next to an older gentleman at the bar by the name of Gavin. He was not drinking but seemed to be having a great time. Shortly after our conversation, I was at home, resting on my couch.

I woke up with a massive hangover but was thankful that I was off work and could rest more. I opened my phone to find unread messages on Grindr, one being from the older guy I had been speaking with for some time.

"It was nice meeting you last night."

That was the message I saw from him. I sat there for a moment, wondering where I had met him. Then it hit me....Gavin, the man I spoke to at the bar. That was him. How the hell did that happen? I didn't plan a meetup with him, nor did he know that I would be there. Was he following me? Thoughts rushed through my mind, wondering how it came to be. Moments later, I stop questioning myself, and responded to him.

"Oh wow....that was you?"

After some small talk, I decided to log off Grindr and enjoy my day. It wasn't until days later that Gavin invited me over to his house.....
