Any Dream Will Do -- Chapter 1

I stood off to the side of the rather large stage and watched my friends rehearse their parts for that night in New York City. Maybe I should tell you some about myself, My name is Joseph Williams, and I'm 23. Right now, at this moment, I'm "unattached" only because it is hard to live a life on the road. You see, for my life, I sing. But not in concerts, it's not even close to a concert. I star in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, as Joseph of course. Some friends had this strange idea that I can sing and they tricked me into singing for the director and he signed me immediately. I tend to think it was because I have long hair, not that I can sing. Like I said, I'm Joseph Williams, I've heard that I look like Donny Osmond, the one who starred in the movie version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I've been singing since I knew how to talk, I actually didn't talk at first, my first words were a song my mom had sung to me to sleep the night before. I picked up on music pretty quickly, piano by 3, guitar by 6, violin by 8, drums by 10, banjo by 12, trumpet in middle school, saxophone by 16. And in between music it was dance and acting lessons. Till now, I think I've had a pretty good life, I came out to my family and they accepted me, my schooling has improved, and the show is a hit. Couldn't be better!

"Joseph!" Kelli shouted from the center of the stage, pulling me out of my trance.

"What?" I shouted back.

"We're doing the remix of Any Dream Will Do, I think you need to be on stage to sing." She replied back.

"Does help doesn't it?" I said and laughed at my own odd humor. I get a kick out of the stupidest things these days.

I walked into the back of the stage and pretended to come in on my chariot as pharaoh.

"Yada, Yada, Yada, cue music," the director called out.

The music started and I started to sing.

*Me

I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain

To see for certain what I thought I knew

Far far away someone was weeping

But the world was sleeping

Any dream will do

*With Children

I wore my coat, with golden lining

Bright colors shining, wonderful and new

And in the east the dawn was breaking

And the world was waking, any dream will do

*Me

A crash of drums

*Narrator (Kelli)

A flash of light

*Me

My golden coat flew out of sight

*Me and Kelli

The colors faded into darkness

I was left alone

*Me, Kelli, and children

May I return, to the beginning

The light is dimming, and the dream is too

The world and I, we are still waiting

Still hesitating, any dream will do

Still hesitating, any dream will do

*Everyone

May I return, to the beginning

The light is dimming, and the dream is too

The world and I, we are still waiting

Still hesitating, any dream will do

Give me my colored coat

My amazing colored coat

Give me my colored coat

My amazing colored

Coat

We froze in the positions we were in until the director yelled cut.

"Cut!" he finally yelled.

We all relaxed and went to get some rest at the hotel. Walking down one of the many long hallways that connected the stage to the outside world I noticed a coming attraction poster on the wall.

"Coming April 25th, Backstreet Boys Black and Blue World Tour," I read out loud. "Hmmm, interesting." I said to myself and continued walking down the hall.

I seriously have no clue who the Backstreet Boys are but pictures looked good, especially the blond one, I have a thing for blondes, and I can't help it.

Since the hotel was just across the street from the auditorium, it didn't take much time to get there. Waiting for the elevator, I checked my cell to make sure there were no new messages. I had one, and it was from my brother Josh, and he wanted money. The elevator opened and as it started to close a sweaty arm stuck through the door making the doors open again. I looked up and smiled. `Cute' I thought and quickly checked him out. He smiled and stepped inside.

Then it dawned on me. `What was that group poster on the wall at the theater?' I thought and started to bite my lip. One of my worst habits.

"You shouldn't do that," the guy said.

"Do what?" I said gazing into space.

"Bite your lip, you could split it and then it would hurt." He said with humor added to his voice.

"Point being? It's a habit, and you can't stop a habit."

"Yes, you can." He said.

"No you can't, can you stop breathing?" I said and turned my head so that I looked him in the eye. `Same height, 6'3, hmmm...'

He shrugged. "Point taken."

He had a nice figure, built, but not too well built, and just enough fat to hold onto, I loved that. And he had blonde hair, looked newly cut, and the bluest eyes, `sigh'.

He held out his hand, "Nick," he said.

"Joseph," I said and grasped his hand. `Firm shake'

The elevator stopped, "My floor," Nick said and smiled as he got off.

Then I realized there was a note in my hand. I looked down quickly and back up, but the doors had already closed and the elevator had already started moving to the next stop.

I opened the note. `Room 621 -- Nick' I read and smiled, if there were any chance in hell he was gay, that was probably a good sign.
