Ive been working on this story for a qhile butuntil recently decided to give it a try. This is my second story, the first being Simple Magic, always on Science Fiction. Chapter 7 is almost done.

. . . . . . .

"Wake up, sleepy head!!"

Sam was hearing the words but his dream was so good he didn't want to wake up.

"You know, if you don't wake up, you are going to be late for your big test today!"

He could recognize the voice, but how was he here? There is no way he is here. And was he talking about a test? Curiosity got the best of him, and he started peeking over his blanket. There sitting in his bed was his brother. He, whom he hadn't seen in like 2 months. He was really glad but still confused to see him.

"Derek? What are you doing here? I thought you were in L.A. right now!"

"Well, I got sent here so I thought I could give you a small surprise. Surprise! I'm here!" Derek said waving his hands like he was some sort of cheerleader. "Besides you were mentioning that today you had a big exam; and, because I know you were going to sleep till late studying, I decided to drop by and help you up."

Sam knew that was true; now more awake, he was really glad to see his brother.

"Thanks bro, you are the best." He sat up and gave his brother a big brotherly hug. "I'm glad to see you!

Hold on! What time is it? Sam said watching the clock to see how late he was. He was surprised to see he wasn't late.

"Yeah I calculated the amount of time it would take you to get ready and have a small breakfast with me. I hope I got the timing right!"

Sam stood from his bed and considered it for a while; he had already planned on waking up early and continue studying a bit. That test was important and very difficult. But, then again, his brother was there and he really missed him.

"Of course you got the timing right! Let's have some breakfast big bro!" Sam said with a huge smile on his face.

"You might want to put on some clothes on first!" Derek said with a grin and pointing to his brother who was not wearing anything. "We don't want to give people heart attacks because of your hot body haha." For a second Sam was embarrassed, but then remembered two things. First, it was his brother that was in front of him, no stranger. This was not the first time he had seen him with no clothes at all. And second he was very proud of his body. Years of training, martial arts and swimming, had given him a very good shape and defined muscles.

"That might be fun," Sam said smiling, "but you are right. I will be out in a second" he said as he headed to the walk-in closet. "So how's work going? Lots of clients to see?" Sam asked while he looked for clothes to wear.

"Yeah, lots of work, but I don't complain. What about you? How are your classes going?" Derek asked. He really didn't want to talk about his "job"; not that it was something to be embarrassed about. As a matter of fact he wanted to share his "job" with his little brother. Hopefully, soon enough. He could feel it.

"Can't complain either, you know I'm smart. But lately I've been feeling tired and it has affected a little bit on my studies. I will get better I promise. I won't let you down!" Sam said putting up some jeans.

"Don't worry about it bro. I know that soon everything will turn out great... Hey didn't you get a shower?" Derek said as Sam was coming out of the closet already dressed up.

"Haha, I took a shower right before I went to bed, and it wasn't hot at all at night. Besides that just won us at least 10 minutes more for breakfast!"

"Hahaha, ok whatever you say!" Derek said. "You ready?"

"Yeap, let's go!" Sam said grabbing his jacket.

. . . . . . .

Breakfast was really nice. Close to Sam's apartment there was a McDonald. So they had their breakfast there. The conversation was very light as it was mostly Sam talking about school, classes and stuff.

"How about your love life little bro? Any guy I should know of?" Derek asked Sam with a grin. He knew this subject was a little embarrassing for his brother. Not too much to be offensive. As always, Sam went a bit red with the question.

"No. I'm single!" Sam asked lowering his head.

"Come on bro!! Don't tell me nobody is paying attention to you? You are really good looking; you look like you come out of a Calvin Klein ad. Not as good looking as me, but close enough haha." This made Sam laugh a bit. He always thought he was good looking, but his brother gave him way too much credit. He was tall, blue eyed, short dirty blonde hair. His skin was tanned because he enjoyed surfing a lot. His brother was very much like him, just taller. He was 4 years older than Sam.

"It's not that guys don't pay attention to me. On the contrary, both girls and guys are always hitting on me. I just think I haven't found the right one. I want somebody who is passionate, fiery, yet kind, and funny, and smart. Somebody that loves me for who I am. I must sound like some dumb 13 year old girl, don't I?" Sam said lowering his voice and looking somewhere else.

"Not at all, I understand you. I have a friend like that. I wish you could meet him. You two would hit it off right away."

"Don't give me hopes." Sam said with a weak laugh.

Derek saw how bad his brother was feeling. He knew what was happening to his little brother. This made him both happy but a little sad. He knew that his powers would soon arise. That's why he is feeling weak and depressed. Those symptoms don't last long, so his changing must be close. Derek tried to lighten up the mood.

"Anyway! I think it's time for me to leave!"

"That's your idea of cheering me up?" Sam said laughing a bit.

"I'm just leaving to do some business around town. I'll be waiting for you at the apartment when you finish your test. Then we can go to play some pool or go bowling. You love bowling!" Sam liked that idea.

"I do like bowling! Just no more talking about my love life haha."

"Deal!"

Derek gave Sam a big bear hug. While they were hugging Derek said something that Sam thought it was a bit strange but liked it nevertheless.

"I know how you are feeling. But take my word it won't last long. After this finishes you'll be able to come with me. We will have a great time. Just hang in there. You know I love you with all my life!!"

Small tears escaped from Sam's eyes. He was so happy to see his brother right now.

"Ok, I'll see you at 5 sharp. I always get to the apartment at 5 on Tuesdays. See you later!" Sam left the restaurant and started walking to campus.

His brother just stood there and watched him walk away.

"Soon!" He said and walked outside.

. . . . . . . . .

Sam was feeling so tired during his test. He could hardly focus. Still he thought he had done well in the exam. He stood up from his seat and started walking out of campus. He noticed it was already 5 o clock, so he decided to rush home.

He waved goodbye to some of his friends. Sam didn't have many close friends. He was always more of the quiet type. He liked to socialize but most of the guys on campus weren't his type. Some of them were too party freaks, or some were too studious. Sam liked to consider himself as someone really balanced.

While he was walking he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being followed. At that time of the day the road was not really busy. He turned to his back to see if he was being followed, but saw no one.

He continued walking and once again felt the feeling. There was absolutely no one even near him. Not from the front and definitely not from the back. He once again turned around to see if there was someone behind him. Nothing. When he turned, however, when he turned forward again to head home, he saw two figures walking towards him.

He was startled to see them appearing seemingly out of nowhere. But they were pretty far away so he didn't get too scared and continued walking normally. When the figures got closer, he noticed that they were dressed the same, in dark leather outfits. When they got close to him they stopped in front of him.

"Well hello there! Why are you walking all by yourself through these deserted streets," said one of the figures. His voice was low but still human like. He was tall and seemed to be in very good shape. His hair, black and short, was arranged in a spiky style.

"You shouldn't be walking all alone in these places. More so when your brother is not here to protect you!" The other strange guy spoke. He was very similar to the other guy, but his hair was longer and brown, and his eyes were an emerald green color. Now that he noticed they had both the same eye color.

Taken aback momentarily by this strange comment, Sam couldn't react. Who were these people? What was their problem? How did they know about his brother? Why would he need his brother's protection?

"I don't need my brother to protect me! And who are you? What do you want?" Sam asked in defiance.

"Hahaha hear that brother! Mister Sam here thinks he doesn't need his brother. We are not going to kill him instantly brother. We are going to teach him a lesson first!" The second man said. Loud thunder was heard in the sky as they both proceeded to take a strange looking knife out of their clothes.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

(Meanwhile in Sam's apartment)

"Where in the world is he? He should be here by now!" Derek was pacing in front of Sam's apartment. He had this weird feeling that something was wrong. Sam is never ever late. And he had told him that he would be there by 5. Even if he got sidetracked he was already 30 minutes late.

"Something is definitely wrong!" He thought again. "Caleb, something is wrong!" He started to communicate telepathically with one of his group.

"What happened? I can feel distress in your thoughts "The voice in his head answered.

"I think my brother is in trouble. Please lend me your foresight ability to find him faster!"

"Of course! Let us know if you need help."

Once Derek had received the ability he started searching. With this ability he could see as if he was physically in the place. He first looked around campus. No luck. He then decided to search around the area but without success. He quickly drifted to another location in direction of the apartment. Just as he was about to give up he could see two shadow figures he identified as two Slayers. When he zoomed into location he saw Sam standing in front of them and they were about to take out their weapons.

He stretched out his hand to summon a storm right on top of where they were. That would give him something to attack with, considering he had neither weapons nor his normal equipment with him. He started running towards Sam. He ran faster than what he had ever run.

. . . . . . . . . .

When Sam saw the knives he immediately prepared for an attack.

When the first attack came he was ready. He quickly dodged the first attack of bad guy one, and when bad guy two attacked he diverted the attack of his brother. This sudden defence surprised his attackers.

He quickly grabbed the opportunity to place some space between them.

"Well look what we have here! We have ourselves a little fighter. He may not be as harmless as we thought. But still you have no chance against us!" The second dark robed man said as he ran towards Sam.

Sam saw him clearly as he approached him. He knew he would be able to at least defend against the attack. He first, dodged the attack and quickly saw the opportunity to counterattack the side of the enemy.

He did so and quickly the other guy went and attack. Meanwhile, the spiky haired guy went on the offensive; his movement where faster than the first man but still he managed to defend against him.

Both attackers fought really well; they attacked in synchrony. There were times where one would help the other one in a movement by giving him a lift or an initial pull. Very quickly Sam was overpowered by his two attackers. Every now and then they would come very close to cutting him. They were already cutting his shirt. Sam was feeling overwhelmed.

In an extremely fast synchronized movement the attackers managed to hit Sam squarely in his chest and the other attacker severely wounded him in the chest. Sam started to feel a sharp pain in his chest. He stumbled and fell back into a wall. Once on the floor, his vision became a little blurry, and the pain in his chest became stronger. He lifted his hand to his chest and got scared when he saw a lot of blood, his blood.

"I told you brother. This was going to be an easy kill. And to think he came so close to obtaining his precious gift." the long haired one said. "Now let's just put an end to your misery!" He spoke again as he quickly flung the knife towards Sam's heart.

Sam was in shock. Here he was about to get killed by two weird random strangers. It seemed that time itself had slowed down. He could clearly see the knife approaching his heart. He just closed his eyes and silently said goodbye to his brother.

. . . . . . . . . .

The sound of a bone breaking and a grunt brought Sam back to reality. Standing in front of him was his brother; he had stopped the attack by grabbing the bad guy's wrist and breaking it. Derek then kicked out, sending him flying to the ground.

"Try and touch him one more time, I dare you!"

"What are you doing here, Derek!? You are not supposed to be here!"

"Yeah and leave you guys alone so you can kill my little brother! You guys are so smart."

"We were just hoping to avoid fighting with you, but it seems we won't be able to avoid it," the other attacker said.

"You both know that I can easily defeat you two!"

"If you had any water, which you don't!"

Derek moved his hand over Sam's backpack and something inside started moving.

"Would you mind opening your backpack please, Sam?" Derek spoke calmly to Sam.

Sam ignored the pain in his chest and grabbed his backpack and slowly opened it. The water bottle that he had inside started to float. The water inside was all in the upper part of the bottle.

With a quick hand movement Derek controlled the water out of the bottle, cutting it in half. The water just floated right on top of Derek's hand.

"That won't be enough!" One of the attackers said, his voice revealing nervousness.

"Take one more step and find out!" Derek said with authority.

Both attackers hesitated but decided to step closer.

"Bad choice!" Derek said.

Derek used the floating water as a weapon. First he had turned the water into solid ice to stop the movement of one of the attackers by blocking his way. In the same quick movement he turned the ice back to water and used it as a whip to grab the foot of the other and send him flying to a near wall.

The other foe tried to move closer to Sam who was still lying on the floor, but Derek used the water to create a slippery surface beneath the attacker, tumbling him to the ground. Then Derek controlled the water on top of him and with great power released the water on top of the bad guy's chest. Again Derek had controlled the water into a more dense and heavier form of water.

Derek ran towards Sam and used the water on top of the bloody wound.

"This will help a bit until I can get you home!" Derek said calmly.

The water had started to glow dimly and Sam could feel the wound starting to heal.

"We told you that small amount of water wasn't enough to beat us." Both attackers where up on their feet and weapon in hand. They seemed hurt but would dare not to show it.

"You have exactly 30 seconds before it starts raining; I would not be close by then!" Derek said firmly. As if to accentuate his resolution, the sky started grumbling hard. Sam hadn't noticed but dark clouds were forming and powerful thunder could be heard. A very powerful storm was coming.

"We should go!" Bad guy one said to the other in a whisper.

Bad guy two hesitated, but as another thunder clap was heard in the sky he spoke.

"We will be back Derek, and next time you won't be there to save your little brother!" Bad guy two said before disappearing into a shadow. Derek left out a sigh of relief. He wasn't really afraid of those two but he still didn't feel prepared for them.

"Derek what the hell is going on? Who were they? Why did they want to kill me? Why and how can you control water?"

Derek just laughed at all the questions his little brother had.

"Calm down, I'll try and answer those as soon as possible. But first we need to get to my safe house!"

"Safe house? Since when do you have a safe house? Why would you need a safe house?"

"Hahahaha you are funny when you are freaking out!" Derek said while standing up, he offered his hand to Sam who took it and with a little effort he stood up.

"Let's go and I'll answer that!" Derek said holding his brother's hand and with the other pressing a small device on his belt. Just like that they both disappeared from the place.
