Hopelessly Human By Teo

Here is another fictional story about the Backstreet Boys. This is once again a work of fiction and the sexuality of the characters involved in no way express the actual sexuality the members of the Backstreet Boys (so Howie if you are reading this, please forgive me if you are insulted that I made you heterosexual and Kevin gay or vice versa, yeah right I wish) If you are under eighteen years of age please leave and if you are offended bythe contents of the story, mainly sexual acts between two males, please leave also

I hope to here from you with comments on what you think of this story. I hope the layout of the story is acceptible because I am a hopeless victim of Microsoft and reconfiguring text is not my strongest suit. Take care and email me at Uberboygeg@aol.com with your comments and concerns. Thanks _______________________________________________________________________________

Part 1--Hopelessly Human

"Come on you guys, get the lead out, you guys have been dragging all afternoon," Fatima shouted over the blare of the music. "We won't meet for a few weeks then it is supposed to be brush up for the tour."

"Come on Fatima, we have been practicing non-stop for two weeks, we do get tired you know!" Nick pleaded, soaked in sweat from the hours of grueling dancing. Even he, usually the better of the guys when it came to dancing was visibly winded.

"You BOYS have been slacking off in that damn recording studio for too long, I have to whip you back into shape!" she snapped back, with a bit of evil slight in her voice."

"Whip is right, you damn slav."

"What was that AJ? Did you just ask to run through it again?"

"Come on Fatima, we are worn out," AJ whined trying his best to give her puppy dog eyes.

"Okay, just this once, have a good vacation and we will pick up on the first," she laughed. "And you guys better not get lazy, I want you alert and ready when we get back."

"Thank God," Kevin sighed. He had to get home, pack, and get on the road for his ten-year class reunion. It wasn't that he was looking forward to it, but he felt it was the right thing to do. He wanted to spend some time alone but management insisted that he take a "buddy". The policy started earlier in his career and it later became a necessity. He would be paired up with a body guard/driver/public relation's person who would take care of him when he decided to venture out on his own for any reason. It was an invasion of privacy but Kevin understood that it was needed for his safety. He only hoped that he wouldn't be stuck with the guy he had last time. It was a boring old guy named Ernie that had difficulty keeping up with him. Management had not gotten back to him yet, and this worried him.

He decided to make a week out of the trip home. Drive up on Thursday and Friday, spend the weekend with his high school friends and family, then spend the rest of the week on a drive through the Ozarks, over to the coast, and get back to Orlando.

"Sorry Cuz, even I can tell God had nothing to do with her decision," Brian responded clutching his aching shoulder through his drench t-shirt. "Damn woman is going to give me a heart attack."

"I heard that Mr. Litterell!" Fatima shouted from across the studio. "You better be praying to God, Jesus, and the even a few pagan ones that I will forget that when you get back!" She knew she had to keep one step ahead of them, when they were out on stage it was her neck. If they missed one step it was management on her back to get it corrected. They wanted a well-oiled group of perfect clean-cut robots, and she had five tired, cranky overgrown boys who wanted a break. They just got off a year long tour, were starting to record a new album due out next year, and then record label dropped the bomb on them. They wanted a second leg in support of the Millennium album, hitting smaller cities in the United States that they had missed on the first leg. The tour would be a scaled down version of the first, playing only two hours without an opening act in cities with names like Spokane, Boise, Fargo, and Winona. The idea was to play smaller venues, attempt to expand the audience base, milk more radio stations of free promo time, and gear up the country for a new album due out in April. Jive saw it as a cash cow rehashing the top hits and maybe a few new ones. They could tape it in a smaller acoustically good environment and then release a live album for Christmas. It was good management, but they neglected to think of the people involved.

"So Kevin, when are you heading out?" Brian inquired as they grabbed their gym bags and started heading out of the practice hall.

"Well I was hoping for tonight, as soon as my Buddy shows up I guess." He responded with a slight hint of sarcasm in his voice.

"You hoping for Big Ernie?" Brian chuckled. "What a dreamboat!"

"If you are into that type. Speaking of dreamboats Cuz, where is your little Nicky anyway?" Kevin cracked.

"He is probably flirting with Fatima again, I think he likes her."

"Oh the drama of the biiiiiii-boyfriend," Kevin said. "So what are you guys planning for your mini-vacation anyway? Couples therapy?"

"Yeah right, I know where he comes home too." Brain retorted in mock accusation. "

"Comes being a key word I guess," Kevin laughed.

"So how long has it been anyway? Years Kevy?" Brian joked. "We are probably stay home and play Nintendo and sleep a lot."

Kevin shot back a look of sadness. It in fact had been over a year. He missed Marco still.

Just as they reached the side exit, Nick suddenly appeared, pale and gaunt looking He was visibly winded.

"Wait up guys, Brian, your driving, cause I don't think I can," Nick sighed, tossing his Durango keys to Brian.

"You feeling okay Nicky?" Brian asked. Then the smell arrived. Obviously McDonald's decided to come back up and say hello.

"Shit dude, you stink!" Kevin groaned.

"I think I am overly tired, I need to rest for a while, clean up and relax." Nick smiled. "Too bad my boyfriend wasn't there for me, poor AJ, I think he is a bit of a sympathy puker."

"Well guys you take care, I'll call you from Lex, Brian." Kevin said as he dropped his bag in the trunk.

"Say hi to my mom for me. Tell her I am sorry I couldn't come with you." Brian shouted as he unlocked the door. "I might fly up at the end of next week though."

"Bye," Kevin yelled as he crawled into his own car. The hot leather interior burned the underside of his bare legs. He placed the keys into the ignition, started the car and promptly hit the air conditioner button.

"God it has been too long," he sighed to himself.

Marco left Kevin towards the beginning of the European leg of last year's tour. He wanted a full time boyfriend. Although he knew that he couldn't have that when they first fell in love, he couldn't get over the fact that Kevin was gone for a long time. Kevin wrote faithfully every week. He called nearly ten times a day, but with no one answering the other line. By the time Kevin returned home for the US leg of the tour, Marco had moved out and left only a note. A note that was still imprinted into Kevin's memory. It was written on the stationary he had bought Marco before he left. It was a long drawn out letter expressing how much Marco loved Kevin, but could not handle being apart for so long. Marco left no forwarding address. The letter concluded with a short footnote, that maybe, someday, they would meet again. Kevin heard from a mutual friend that Marco had moved across country. But he also knew the harsh reality. He was married to his carrier first; everything else would have to wait for a long time. He sometimes secretly dreamed that the group's popularity would fizzle. He would miss it very much, but now he missed being himself. He wished that this second leg would suddenly be canceled and he could be Kevin Richardson, single guy, rather than Kevin, the oldest Backstreet Boy. He hand only two weeks to be himself and now knew that the next break would be even farther off into the future. Jive wanted the tour to last for the rest of the year, and then a new recorded album out by the beginning of summer of 2001 at the latest.

He drove on, exiting the interstate then pulling slowly up to his house just north of Orlando. He bought this little house with most of the earnings from the first album, which did not amount to much. Somehow he had kept it secret and out of the public eye for this long. It did take driving a few back routes, and hiring a lawn care service to work the front yard, but it was his hiding place. It was his place to get away from it all; his place to be alone. He remembered this almost every time he parked in the garage. Then he was reminded that being alone wasn't all that it was cracked up to be when the only hello he got was from a hungry cat.

"Hey Mr. Quincy, what is for dinner?" Kevin chimed to a dancing black ball of fur hovering next to the door. "Pizza again? Oh kitty, when are you going to learn to cook?" He dropped his bags and keys on the side table and headed into the kitchen followed by his cat that promptly walked over to the cat food cupboard. Kevin then remembered that he forgot to ask Brian to cat sit while he was gone. He grabbed the phone and promptly opened the cupboard, scooting the cat with the door, and grabbed a can of cat food.

The phone rang twice and then someone picked up.

"Hello?" It was Brian.

"Hey Bri, I almost forgot, would you.."

"Yes I will take care of the nephew." Brian interrupted. "For a minute there I was wondering if you had found someone else to take care of Quincy."

"Well mom would love for the grandbaby to come with me but I can't imagine taking him up there on the trip. She still thinks that I should bring him up there while I am tour."

"Well she is coping with the fact that Quincy is all she is going to get out of you." Brian chuckled. "By the way who is taking care of him this time since Howie dumped that fish?" Brian asked, surprising Kevin with his choice of grammar. Brian never failed to amaze him, religious disciple one minute, drama queen the next. He wondered if there was a hint of bipolar looming in that head of Brian's.

"Grandma is taking care of him. Christ he practically lives there all the time anyway!" Kevin responded. Mrs. Stevens was a nice eighty-something woman next door. He hated to ask her but she insisted, it horrified her that her "damn cat" would not be hanging out chasing the birds out of her garden. Her husband had passed away shortly before Kevin moved in. She was a great woman, always picking at her garden and playing bingo on Wednesday and Saturday nights. They were too lonely spirits and he had grown to call her Grandma. She loved Kevin like her own and was always bringing over cookies and she snuck over and took care of his flowerbeds in the back yard when he was away. She and Kevin grew very close after Marco moved out. Her only response to the departure of his 'roommate' was a simple, "you will find the right man one of these days, and you were too good for him anyways." He was floored on how wise she was, and then hoped that he remembered to close the bedroom blinds in the past.

"Well that is good, he will be fat and lazy when we get back." Brian said, "Well Nicky is getting ready to fall asleep so I am going to go cuddle. Have fun on your trip."

"Thanks again Bri, take care."

Kevin finished feeding Quincy and headed towards the bathroom to shower. He paused only to call Dominos and order a pizza. He always called Brian to come check on the cat while he was gone on non-group related business. It gave Brian a chance to get away from Nick once in a while, or at least a chance for the two of them to get out of the small, gated condo they rented.

He dropped his shorts and t-shirt on the bathroom floor and hopped into the small tiled cubicle and started the misty spray of water. Kevin jolted a bit a first, with nowhere to escape the first initial cold blast, but slowly relaxed as the temperature adjusted to a hot stream. Grabbing the soap and nylon sponge he began to methodically clean himself starting at this head and slowly scrubbing to his feet. He shampooed, rinsed and began to rub the shaft and balls of his slowly growing member when he heard the muffled chime of the doorbell over the rasp of the shower.

"Shit, that was quick!" he exclaimed, noticing that it was less than fifteen minutes ago that he ordered the pizza. He shut off the water, grabbed the large light gray towel and wrapped it around himself. He quickly scurried out of the bathroom and grabbed is wallet and headed for the door. He thought how amusing it would be if the press caught him answering the door in his towel, and then noticed that a large tent of terrycloth had formed directly below the waist. Attempting to adjust himself in a less revealing position he got to the front door and began to open it.

"Hello Mr. Richardson," said a guy in his mid-twenties, sporting a green Abercrombie and Fitch jersey shirt and a pair of black jeans.

"Can I help you?" Kevin asked, noting that the gentleman was without pizza. He looked puzzled at the stranger, and slowly closed the door a bit more to help hide his near nakedness.

"I am Jake Simms, I was assigned to you as your Buddy for the weekend." The tall well defined blonde said with a look of shock on his face. "Were you not expecting me?" Jake scanned the man behind the door. Amazed that he had met Kevin in such a compromising position.

"Actually I was wondering why I had not heard from management yet. I was planning on hitting the road in a few hours and they are usually good about giving me at least a few days notice on who is going to be going with me." Kevin responded.

"I am sorry for the miss-communication sir, but you can call Sandra in the office to clarify," Jacob replied then got audibly quieter mid-sentence. He thought of how lame and customer service oriented that sounded. He also noticed a slight smirk on Kevin's face.

"Sir? Ummmm.Kevin is really okay." Kevin said with a slight stutter of laughter in his voice. He wondered if this Jake was going to be as robot-like and nervous later on this trip. He hoped not. "Ummm..you caught me in the shower, please come in and relax while I get some clothes on."

Kevin pulled the door open further and allowed Jake to enter. Jake caught the swollen moist outline of Kevin's groin and quickly adverted his eyes. 'Oh my god, wow' he thought to himself then quickly admonished himself for "impure thoughts" towards his new "boss". He entered the house and walked into the living room while Kevin disappeared into his bedroom.

Jake was surprised on how small the house was actually. He pictured a sprawling gated mansion in his head on his drive here. He wondered why Kevin, who must obviously be wealthy at this point in his career was living in such a small, normal house. The house reminded him of the 1950's GI house he grew up in as a child.

"Hey are you hungry?" Kevin shouted from the other room. The voice echoed through the small hallway into the living room.

"Actually I was wondering if you wanted to grab something as we left town. I haven't eaten since this morning." Jake replied.

"Pizza is on it's way, you like tomato and extra cheese?" Kevin called out. He was rooting through his closet to find his green pullover and a pair of khakis he liked to travel in because of their comfort.

"That's cool." Jake said as he scanned over the wall of CD's adjacent to the television. He noticed names like R Kelly and Garbage stacked together with the Eagles and even a gospel album by Loretta Lynn.

"See anything you like?" Kevin voice asked obviously closer. Jake turned around and noticed Kevin standing next to the sofa on the other side of the room. He smiled giving Kevin the once over and silently chuckled to himself on how double edged he wished that question was, as he stared at how the green pullover hugged and cupped over Kevin's chest.

"I was just noticing the diverseness of the collection. Never have seen the Eagles stacked next to Reba McIntire and the Pet Shop Boys before I guess."

"Well I am a man of many different moods and tastes I guess," Kevin laughed.

The two men smiled looking at each other in awkward silence obviously admiring the view of each other. The silence was interrupted, thankfully to each of them, by the ring of the door.

There you go. Hope you enjoyed it. I have a lot of plans for this story, an epic saga (yeah right) with love, lust, deceit, psychosis, and conflict (you know your average gay relationship stuff). Write me at Uberboygeg@aol.com with your comments.
