A Visit to the DMV
Prologue
Arnold Werner recently emigrated to the United States from Austria. He is an architect, and he speaks a passable English. He has a wonderful reputation in his chosen profession, and he had no trouble securing his position while he was still in Austria. His new firm, Bradley and Bradley, assisted him in getting his green card.
Arnie made a preliminary trip to the United States, prior to his move. He needed to find an apartment. He wasn't familiar with New York City, so Bradley and Bradley assigned his soon-to-be administrative assistant to help him in his quest.
Bob Hall, Arnie's administrative assistant, is close to graduating from Columbia University, with a degree in architecture. The firm has already informed him that he will apprentice to Arnie for a year, and then he will receive a permanent position as a senior architect. Bob was the first of his class to find a position. He was more than a happy camper, but he was worried about what Arnold Werner was like, and what it be like to work for him.
He needn't have fretted. Arnie is friendly and amiable. The entire staff of his Austrian firm considered it an honor to work with him, or for him. Arnie is simply happy all the time. He is twenty nine years old, tall, and very handsome. He has light brown hair, hazel eyes, and a well-trimmed beard and mustache. His chin is chiseled, and very manly. For those in the know, he is exceptionally well endowed, five flaccid uncut inches, which rises to the occasion to about eight inches.
One other very important fact. Arnie is even happy about being gay. He knows for a fact that he gets more sex than his straight friends, who are always on the prowl. He just needs to walk into a bar, and he gets hit on.
Bob Hall is just shy of twenty-three years old, and as handsome and well-endowed as Arnie, except that he's cut. Unlike Arnie, he's very straight. He goes way beyond the outer edge of Kinsey's scale for being heterosexual.
Bob was aware of what Arnie's salary would be, so he steered him to two very good neighborhoods, the upper east side, and Chelsea, downtown. They went to Chelsea first, and Arnie fell in love with a spacious one-bedroom apartment. He couldn't wait to sign a lease, give the rental agent first and last month's rent and a security deposit. They never did get to the upper east side. It was late in the afternoon when their business was concluded.
"If you have no plans for this evening, would you like to have dinner with me?" Bob asked.
"That's very nice of you. Thanks," Arnie said.
"After dinner we'll go to my favorite bar," Bob said. "I never fail to score there, and I have no doubt the woman will be all over you."
"I'll have to say no to going to a bar with you," Arnie said. "If you can point me to a gay bar, we'd be sealing our new relationship with a strong bond."
Bob couldn't have been more shocked. He whistled, and murmured, "I never would have guessed."
Chelsea is not that far from New York's famed Greenwich Village. After a very fine dinner, Bob took Arnie there.
"You'll find more gay bars in Greenwich Village than in all of Austria," Bob said. "I'll leave you here, but you'll have to find your way back to your hotel by yourself."
"Don't worry," Arnie said. "I'll manage. In fact, maybe I'll go home with someone else tonight."
Bob laughed. "Good luck and good night," he said, and they parted ways.
It developed that Arnie did score that night, with a pair of identical twins, no less.
-1-
Arnie's life in the gay world of New York City, began almost immediately after he arrived to begin his permanent residency in the United States. He needed to get a driver's license, and Bob directed him to the Department of Motor Vehicles, commonly referred to as the DMV.
The clerk, who was assigned to him, informed him that his foreign driver's license was not acceptable for reciprocity. He would need to take a driver's test, and that included a written test. Arnie was very meticulous and thorough. He had already requested, and received, a driver's manual from the DMV, and he was well prepared. He came to the DMV in a rented Chevy to avoid being conspicuous. He intended on buying a BMW when he got settled.
Arnie found the clerk to be very hot. He was identified by a name tag, which read Chester. Arnie couldn't tell how tall Chester is, because he was seated, but when the two men went out to the driving test area, he discovered that Chester is the same height as he is. Arnie wondered what else was the same. Chester is very good looking. He has brown hair, brown eyes, and a dimple on each side of his lips. Arnie figured that they were about the same age, but regretfully, Chester has a hunky body. Arnie was nowhere near to being as muscular. He vowed to find the nearest gym, and work out more often. He thought he might ask Chester which gym he went to, but he never did.
Arnie passed both driver's tests with flying colors. The clerk took his picture, and within minutes, he had a New York State driver's license. His home address was recorded, and now Arnie could buy the BMW, and tool around New York and its environs.
Arnie had brought in a few documents to prove his residency. Chester placed them and his new license in an envelope. He handed it to Arnie with a great big smile.
Arnie thanked Chester for his efficiency, and left. When he got home, he replaced the documents in his file cabinet, and put the license carefully in his wallet. Then Arnie noticed something. At the bottom of the envelope, he saw a business card. He removed it, and discovered that it was Chester's calling card. He now knew that Chester's surname is Morelli.
He turned the card over, and read: You sure are handsome. I'll be at The Watering Hole in The Village Friday night from 7 PM to??. If you are interested, stop by.
Obviously Chester's gaydar is honed to perfection. Arnie's is only so-so. He was really surprised, and vowed to be at the bar Friday evening.
He arrived fashionably late, about 7:15. The place was really mobbed, and Arnie was afraid that he wouldn't recognize Chester in the crowd. He honed in on the bar area, and spotted Chester sitting there. He was having an animated conversation with a handsome young man who was seated beside him. Arnie had pangs of jealousy, and he laughed to himself. It was pure nonsense. He and Chester had just met. They didn't even know each other.
Arnie walked over, and interrupted Chester's conversation. He put a hand on Chester's shoulder, and said, "Hi, Chester."
Chester jumped up, and gave Arnie a strong, manly, hug.
"You came," Chester said. "You've made me so happy. Let me introduce you to my friend Jordan. Arnold, meet Jordan. Jordan, meet Arnold."
Jordan shook Arnie's hand. "It's nice to meet you," Jordan said. "As soon as my husband gets out of the men's room, I'll introduce you to him. His name is Daniel.. Everybody calls him Danny."
Arnie didn't know why, but he was very relieved. "Please call me Arnie," he said to Jordan and Chester.
"That's a deal if you call me Chet," Chester requested.
"Done," Arnie said.
Most people called Jordan, Jordie, but he never divulged that information to Arnie, who always called him Jordan.
Danny finally arrived and introductions were made. The four men had a lot of fun that evening. They enjoyed each other's company, and drank too much. Austrian Arnie had beer all evening, and the others had a variety of hard liquors. By midnight they were all sloshed.
"How did you get here?" Chet asked Arnie.
"By cab."
"I live walking distance from here," Chet informed Arnie. "Come home with me. Neither of us should navigate the streets of New York alone at this hour. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling woozy. We can help each other."
Arnie didn't need a second invitation, nor did he need to be coaxed. He thanked Chet and said, "Of course, I will."
When they entered Chet's apartment, Arnie said, "Just point me toward a bed. I can't keep my eyes open."
"I'll be happy to point you toward a bed," Chet said, "but you need to shower first. All that beer is oozing through your pores, and it really stinks. I could use a shower also, to rid myself of all the liquor oozing through my pores."
Arnie was drunk, but he surmised they were going to shower together, and he was elated.
It was a great shower. They supported each other to keep from falling. Somehow, through it all, they managed to suck, rim, fuck, and give themselves golden showers. They did their best not to cum, and they were successful. By the time they turned off the taps, they were almost sober.
After they dried themselves, Arnie asked, "Where's that bed you promised me?"
"I only have one bedroom and one bed. You'll need to sleep with me."
Arnie smiled. "Lead the way, Handsome," he said.
They had both intended on making love, but they fell into a near coma like sleep. They were wrapped up in each other's arms, and that was it.
Arnie woke up about five in the morning. He needed to pee again, and he made a beeline to the bathroom. He started to pee, and was surprised to see Chet rush into the room.
"Move over," Chet demanded, and they proceeded to cross swords. When they were finally emptied out, Chet handed Arnie a toothbrush, and the two men completed some much needed oral hygiene.
Hand in hand, they ran to Chet's bed, to start to make love in earnest. Chet removed condoms and lube from his bedtable. Everything they did, they did alternately. Neither was left out. The menu included lengthy trips around the world. Their toes were not excluded. They then played sixty-nine, but refrained from cumming. For the grand finale, Chet fucked Arnie doggie style, and Arnie fucked Chet in the missionary position. They admitted that those positions were their favorites.
Finally, at about 8 AM they were ready to rest. They rolled over, and held each other's hands. After one last kiss, they dozed off for another hour or so. When they woke up, they smiled at one another. Neither had the energy to get out of bed. They just held hands and basked in the aftermath of true love-making, not lustful sex.
After a while, Arnie asked Chet the craziest question. Chet needed to wait for an explanation, before declaring Arnie certifiably insane..
"Have you ever eaten a cream-filled donut?" Arnie asked.
Chet believed that Arnie was going off his rocker, but he answered, "Of course I have. Why are you asking?"
Every time I have one, I find that all the cream is at one end of the donut, and I always manage to bite into the cake end first. I prefer it that way, because the best is left for last."
"I don't understand," Chet said. "Explain yourself."
"I've had plenty of sex up until now, but it was like eating the wrong end of the donut. Today, I reached the cream."
For some reason, Arnie got very emotional, and he started to cry. That got Chet crying also.
When I walked into the bar last night," Arnie continued, "and I saw you with Jordan, I grew insanely jealous. That's crazy. We just met, and we didn't even know each other."
"That's not crazy," Chet said. "I've been at the DMV for nearly four years, and you're the first guy I ever gave my card to. I think, no, I'm certain, that I fell in love with you the minute I started to serve you."
"Me too," Arnie said. "I still haven't figured out yet why I moved to The States. Do you think we might be soulmates, and my guardian angel directed me here? I mean, there were dozens of clerks at the DMV, how did I get you?"
"Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth, "Chet said. He rolled over, and began to kiss Arnie yet again. While engaged in a kissing marathon, they dozed off once more.
-2-
When Arnie woke up, he was alone in bed. He glanced at his wrist watch. It was almost noon. He heard noises in the kitchen, so he went to investigate. Chet was as naked as he was, and he was busy preparing something to eat. They smiled at each other.
"Good morning, Handsome," Arnie said. "What are you making?"
"American cheese omelets, with buttered whole wheat toast and coffee. You got up just in time. I was about to wake you. Everything is almost ready."
They were very quiet while they ate. Finally, Chet asked, "What do you do for a living Arnie? You know what I do."
"I'm an architect."
Do you enjoy your work?" Chet asked."
"I love it. How about you?"
I enjoy it. I've got plenty of job security, and I get to meet lots of people every day. The pay is more than enough to sustain me, but to tell the truth, I had different aspirations when I was young?"
"Tell me, what were your dreams?" Arnie asked.
"I wanted to be a lawyer. I took my job believing I could do both. I started law school at NYU at night, but it was too daunting, and I had to give it up."
"What made you want to be a lawyer?" Arnie asked.
One day, when I was a teenager, I found a text book on an empty seat next to me on the subway. It was entitled "Torts." I didn't know what a tort was at that time, but I took the book home and started to read it. Halfway through the text, I knew that law was something I wanted to do."
"Chet, honey. I would like to propose a few things to you. I love you. I don't want to lose you. My apartment is twice as big as yours. Move in with me."
"I'd love to, under one condition. I want to, no, I need to contribute to our household expenses."
"That's fine with me," Arnie agreed.
"You said that you had a few proposals," Chet asked. "What else?"
"Chet, I make a very substantial salary. I have plenty of money. I would like to see you quit your job, and go back to law school full time."
"That's very generous," Chet said, "but I won't take a penny from you. If I can't pay my way, I won't do it. I don't want to feel that I'm being kept."
"You're being too saintly," Arnie smirked. "We're going to be partners, and hopefully, husbands one day. Everything I have is yours, and vice versa. If it will make you happy, I'll lend you the money. I'll even prepare a promissory note for you to sign. When you're a rich attorney, you can pay me back. Would a legal debt assuage your prideful obsession?"
Chet was too emotional to answer. He jumped up and wrapped his arms around Arnie. He was crying and kissing Arnie, passionately.
"Calm down," Arnie said. I have a vested interest in your future, which is my future now also."
"That guardian angel is still looking after us," Chet said. "Tomorrow, I'll call in sick, and visit the registrar at NYU. I completed a few courses. Maybe they'll give me credit for them, and maybe I can resume next semester."
Arnie grabbed Chet's hand and led him back to the bedroom, where they made love for a few hours more.
They left the kitchen a mess with dirty dishes, and they didn't care.
Epilogue
Three years later, Chet graduated at the top of his class. Several prestigious law firms made him offers. The pay, in each case was beyond his wildest dreams. But, it was not what he wanted to do. He wanted to practice family law, and help people, just as he had been helped.
Chet and Arnie's guardian angel was working overtime. All during law school, Chet clerked part time for Jordan's straight cousin, Frank, who practiced family law. Frank begged him to work for him full time when he graduated. Chet was glad to do so.
They struck a deal. It didn't take very long before he and Frank were equal partners. Shortly after Chet became a full partner, the firm began to grow at an exponential speed. They added three associates, two paralegals and several clerical workers. They needed to move to a much larger office.
Their staff was liberally sprinkled with straights and gays. They would never discriminate. The gays loved it there. They knew that they were "safe" working for Chet and Frank.
After Chet was gainfully employed, he and Arnie married legally, and Arnie started the ball rolling to obtain American citizenship.
Their guardian angel patted himself on the back, for a job well done.
