Chapter 26: Florianópolis to Fort Collins
With JP out of the closet to the rest of his roommates, the four of them were all now starting to become closer friends. It was obvious from how the two acted around each other that Caleb and JP had started to fool around with each other in their room as well. Things didn’t stop between Ben, John, and Caleb too, and Ben figured they probably would all eventually have a four-some too with JP, but there was the problem that Caleb wasn’t into anal and Ben wasn’t sure how Caleb would react to it if it went on in front of him.
JP was trying his best to make it up to Caleb for the incident with Joey and he invited everyone out to the Colorado Rapids soccer game a week after the Costco trip. It was another weekend of no game in Boulder, so Caleb and everyone else accepted the invitation as a welcome change from JP being the odd one out. Tickets were cheap and plentiful since the Rapids were well out of playoff contention, and it would be Caleb's first MLS game, and John’s second after watching the Sounders with Steven in Seattle.
“Caleb, did you really have to roll your seat back all the way, you’re not THAT tall!” John whined holding his legs from the backseat of JP’s Honda Fit as the four of them drove to the game together. Both Ben and JP had burgundy adidas Colorado Rapids jerseys to wear to the game while Caleb wore a gray AE hoodie and John a sky blue UA polo shirt.
“Sorry, Johnny, I’ve just never been in a car this small. We should have at least taken your car. Why’s your car so tiny JP?” Caleb shifted his seat slightly forward, giving John a little more breathing room.
“We all can’t have parents that make six figures Caleb,” JP shook his head and turned his stereo down. “My dad is just a boring locksmith and my mom is a secretary.”
“Man, I didn’t mean it like that, but realistically, how many chicks, er dudes can you fit in here?” Caleb glanced back at Ben and John in the back seat.
“It’s pretty roomy back here actually, about the same as Johnny’s Accord.” Ben grinned and looked over at John.
“Yeah, I was doing fine until you decided to almost crush my legs!” John chuckled.
“OK, next time we all go out together we’re taking my car!” Caleb shook his head.
“Speaking of being together,” John tried to learn a bit forward with his seatbelt still on. “Isn’t it kinda lucky we all got put together in the same apartment? I doubt we all would have been friends otherwise. I would have had Ben yeah, but we’d have never met you two. Caleb, you’re pretty much my best bud at Mines and I’d never imagined a cute flyboy like you would be open to doing stuff with us. JP? Well, I’ve only started to get to know you now and I still can’t say anything bad about you.
Caleb snorted. “Well, it only took 2 months to get to know him! But I dunno why you all have this obsession with me. I’m just pretty much built like a string bean and if it wasn’t for ROTC I’d probably never have a chance with a girl like Sophie.
“You’re pretty easy on my eyes, especially compared to my freshman roommate!” JP chuckled and pulled down his sun visor.
“Don’t sell yourself short Caleb!” John reached forward and touched him on the shoulder over the seat. While you swear more than a drunken sailor, you still have this sweet innocent look about you that girls go crazy for. We also know you’ve got that sleeper build you hide under your PT shirt.”
“You also spoil all of us!” Ben added.
Caleb blushed, looking out the window to hide his embarrassment. “Thanks guys, I think.”
John took back his hand. “You also remind me of a guy I fooled around with on my basketball team in high school. You have the same brown eyes and build, however you and Cam have completely opposite personalities, as he hasn’t even figured out his major yet and is a party animal. But one thing though, we’re fortunate you went to Mines and not directly to CU, but don’t they have a bigger Electrical Engineering program in Boulder and you wouldn’t have to commute for ROTC. How’d you end up going to Mines?” John asked.
“What? Just because I’m not gonna be a Civil or Construction Engineer like you guys I'm not welcome at Mines?” Caleb responded perplexed. “I know I wanted to go into the Air Force and yeah I was also accepted into the Air Force Academy, but I was thinking further along into the future and how much a degree from the Academy, CU, or Mines would mean and Mines won out.
“Oh man, you turned down the Air Force Academy for us!” Ben’s jaw dropped.
“Yeah, it would have been a free ride, but not like that mattered to me much. I also wanted somewhat of a normal college life and ROTC was the best trade-off. How about you Mr. Messi, I heard from John that Ben came to Colorado and Mines cause he likes lots of dick over pussies, was that part of your decision too?” Caleb looked over at JP as they merged onto I-70 and John snorted in the back.
JP chuckled and glanced at Caleb, "Well, that wasn’t that big a factor for me." He smirked mischievously. "Honestly, I have wanted to be an engineer since I was a kid and when I got accepted into Mines I jumped at it. I knew without soccer I wasn’t going to get me into any other good schools when I got injured.”
“When did you move here again, Colorado must be pretty different from where you were born?” Ben asked JP.
