Blind Faith

Hello everyone... it's probably a safe bet that none of you expected to ever hear from me again, if anyone here even remembers who I am. It's hard to believe that it's been nearly four years since I last touched this story, on Nifty or otherwise-- most of the rest of the story has sat dormant on my hard drive, waiting for me to pick it up, waiting for me to read back over it, waiting for me to make it all the things I wanted it to be but never could quite force it into. I've always been annoyed at authors who leave their stories half-finished and dissapear from the archives, and it's sad for me to realize that I was, for a long time, one of them.

I have no excuse this time, I simply didn't feel the desire to work on the story anymore. When I first came to Nifty six or so years ago, the community I found was amazing, full of talented writers and wonderful people. I'm sure it still is, but to be honest, I wouldn't know; I established some very meaningful and affecting friendships, but as the talent cycled though, I never really connected with the newcomers as much as I had with my first friends at Nifty. And so before long, it felt like I was a stranger in a place once familiar, the last individual of a dead generation. And after my year-long break from posting, I felt that pain more acutely than ever.

Nifty had changed, and so had I. To be honest, I started writing Blind Faith when I was quite a bit younger than I am now, and there came a point when I realized that the story, writing style and plot alike, were a bit hokey. And so it only took the posting of two installments after my break for me to question what I was even doing on the Nifty archive at that point. So I let the story fade from my mind and from the archives.

For the past four years, the story has sat on my hard drive, 95% completed, a giant loose end to an important chapter in my life. I was one of those dissapeared authors that had once annoyed me so much. And I know that there is only one way to fix this.

So, believe it or not, nearly four years since my last post, I will finish this story. I will go that final five percent. It's closure... mostly closure for me, but maybe you can get a kick out of it too.

I'll be posting the last five installments over the next few days, so I hope you'll enjoy them.

Thanks everyone, Sam
