Dancing with the Dragon Chapter 46: Herding Dragons by Tripp Savidge

  • Scene 1 *

Skye opened his shields enough to sense Ian and how he was reacting. He hadn't realized how much he usually picked up from facial expression. When all Skye could see was Ian's cock and balls, he needed his other sight to let him know how close Ian was.

"Oh, God, Skye, that's..."

Skye was surprised how much it turned him on to be sucking off a priest in the confessional. Even better, perhaps than his fantasies suggested. He sucked harder and massaged Ian's heavy balls, letting his fingertips work Ian's perineum. He extended his magic to begin massaging Ian's prostate in time with what he was doing on the outside.

"Ughhhhh..." Ian groaned, pushing farther into Skye's mouth and pressing his body against the divider.

Sort of hot how he is totally losing it, Skye thought. He could not only feel how close Ian was, but he also became aware of Nels through their bond and knew that Ian's mate was as close to orgasm as the priest.

'His body reacts well to us. I enjoy his taste and the feel of him in our mouth,' Mistral whispered.

Mm. I agree, Mistral. I do love when a man loses control and can no longer think coherently because of what I'm doing to him. Having it be a priest just makes it better.

'I do not understand this fascination with his occupation, but I do find our wing-mate attractive and appreciate your enthusiasm.'

Skye was pretty sure he'd feel guilty later, but at the moment, he was enjoying himself and looking forward to tasting Ian's cum. He took Ian into his throat and wrapped his lips tightly as he pulled back. He was trying to pay extra attention to what affected Ian the most and almost choked himself when a new presence distracted him.

Careful, baby. Don't hurt anything I want to use later, Garrett sent.

Skye pulled off for a moment and coughed as he tried to recover. He carefully took Ian back into his mouth.

Hey. Um... where are you? Skye asked.

Leaning against the confessional. Don't stop on my account. I was enjoying what you were doing.

Skye felt the heat rush to his face. Now that he knew Garrett was there, he understood why Ian was getting to him so much. It was Garrett. His mate loved the thought of what Skye was doing and was as aroused as Skye.

'He is close,' Mistral whispered in Skye's mind.

Skye appreciated the interruption bringing his attention back to what he was doing, rather than his mate. He felt Ian's cock thicken and grow even harder before the first blast hit the back of his throat. Skye closed his lips tightly and sucked down everything Ian gave him.

"Oh, God, that was amazing," Ian gasped.

Skye carefully licked Ian clean, then kissed the head before pulling back. "I'm glad." He felt a little sad when Ian withdrew through the small opening. Skye sighed and slid the panel back in place. He stood and rubbed his knees for a moment before opening the door and stepping out.

"Hey, beautiful." Garrett pulled Skye into his arms and kissed him. "Mm. Tasty. I may have to give our new brother a try sometime."

"What?" Ian had stepped out of the confessional just in time to hear Garrett.

"You didn't think Skye was the only wing-mate you'd get to know intimately, did you?"

"Garrett, don't scare him." Skye gave Garrett a warning squeeze.

"You um... mean... um." Ian looked shell-shocked and struggled to get any words out.

"It is your choice, Ian. Garrett is correct that the other guys will be very attracted to you and likely make their willingness known. I'm surprised something hasn't already happened."

"But... but I thought they were just teasing." Ian's eyes were wide, and his expression shifted between emotions.

Garrett laughed. "You'll get used to it, don't worry. And I'm pretty sure if they were flirting or making offers, they were quite sincere."

"Oh." Ian's face turned red.

"You okay?" Skye reached out and gripped Ian's shoulder.

"It's a lot to take in. And with Nels feeling everything... I guess it seems a little awkward."

"If you want me to talk with Nels, I'd be glad to do so. And once Kwill is back, we can see about teaching you and Nels how to shield." Skye got the sense that Ian would be fine, and anymore conversation would likely make it worse, not better.

"Let's give Ian some space," Garrett suggested.

"Yeah. Ian, reach out if you need anything." Skye wrapped his arm around Garrett and walked away. I missed you.

Missed you too, babe. I did have another reason for coming to find you though, Garrett sent.

Yeah? Skye hoped that maybe his mate wanted to get some reconnection time in before dinner.

Always, but this time it was because Jos and Willow are waiting in our room to speak with you.

Oh... Well, that's not nearly as much fun, Mistral.

'If we are quick, there will still be time,' Mistral suggested helpfully.

  • Scene 2 *

Skye wasn't sure where to even begin. Garrett rubbed circles on his back as they sat on the couch. Willow and Jos were seated opposite, but Willow was having a hard time staying still and keeping his excitement from spilling through to Skye.

"So... Willow said you needed to talk to me? I'm not in trouble with Prince Argos, am I?" Jos looked more nervous than Skye had ever seen him.

"No, no. There isn't anything 'wrong.'" Skye looked at Garrett and felt the support through their bond.

Just tell him. Surely you can see how much they care about each other?

"Yeah, right. So, Jos... I learned something surprising about my abilities and it... um... kinda affects you and Willow."

"Okay."

"Skye, hurry up. This is killing me!" Willow complained.

"Fine. Jos, I can make it so that Willow could be a dragon bond-mate. Or rather, I have already started the change."

"You mean, like Dillon?" Jos asked.

"Does everybody friggin know?" Skye cried out, looking back at Garrett.

"Hard to keep secrets in a wing." Garrett shrugged and gave a weak smile.

"Yes, Jos. Like Dillon. I have no idea if I'm reading this right, but I think... I think Willow is a strong match for you, and even without a ceremony, you'll likely bond once the changes get far enough along."

"Fuuuucccckkk." Jos sat back with his eyes going wide.

"But that's a good thing, right, Jos?" Willow asked with a quiver in his voice.

Jos didn't say anything, grabbing Willow and pulling him into his lap while he claimed his mouth.

"I love you, Willow," Jos said when they finally pulled apart.

"I love you too. So... you'd be okay-"

"Okay? It's the best fucking thing ever!" Jos pulled Willow back into him.

"Huh. I guess he took the news okay," Skye said, leaning into Garrett.

"Seems so."

I sure hope they end up as a match because I'm not sure how we'd deal with the fallout if they don't.

Trust yourself, Skye. What does Mistral say?

'I say you worry too much. They are a match, and soon enough, you'll see, and then you can apologize to me.'

Garrett laughed out loud. Gotcha. See Skye, quit worrying.

Wait. You heard Mistral?

Um... yeah...

Mistral, did you know Garrett could hear your mind voice?

'I assumed so since there are times when we've heard Rett.'

We have? When?

'Skye, you really need to pay more attention.'

"How long until we know?" Jos asked, pulling Skye's attention.

"Several weeks, I'd guess. From what I've learned talking with Kleitos, dragon's natural bonding is a slower and more gentle process. The ceremony uses magic to speed things up. How or why I don't know."

"So you're mine now?" Willow's voice was almost too quiet to hear.

"Baby, I've been yours for a long time now. Bond or no bond, there's no one else I want as much as you."

Willow buried his face in Jos's chest, but it wasn't enough to mask the sobs of joy.

Skye and Garrett sat quietly, giving Jos and Willow a moment to collect themselves.

"I know you already realize this, but please don't tell anyone," Skye pleaded.

"Oh, of course not." Willow nodded enthusiastically, holding Jos's hand. "Sex helps dragons bond, right?"

Jos's eyes went wide, and his mouth opened, but no sound came out.

Skye snickered and decided to rescue him. "That's what I was told. Or rather that it helps build a stronger bond."

"We're going to have the strongest bond ever!" Willow stood and pulled on Jos's hand to get him to stand.

"I think that's for after you're actually bonded, right, Garrett?" Skye confirmed.

"Yeah, but you're the one who talked to Kleitos. I don't know how it works naturally - without the ceremony."

"Come on, Jos. We need to go." Willow had the most determined look on his face Skye had ever seen, and Jos looked a little dazed.

"Good luck, guys!" Skye called as Willow dragged his dragon out of the room.

  • Scene 3 *

Skye gripped Garrett's hand as they walked down the wide, ornate hall to the Emperor's study.

"You think we're in trouble?" Skye asked.

"I recall Pater saying that he wanted to talk to us about Underhill at dinner. Meeting in Father's study is more comfortable."

"True." Skye could appreciate that Prince Argos's study was pretty, but it was also sparse and rather cold. Maybe it was all the white marble? Skye wondered if that was a Greek thing.

'Perhaps it was something from when he was on Earth, and it gives him comfort?' Mistral suggested.

The guards must have seen them approaching because one of them stepped into the study and then returned to his post nodding to Skye and Garrett. They both bowed when they were closer.

"Your Majesties. Emperor Darius is expecting you," the guard said as he opened the door for them.

Skye stepped in first and saw that River and Nik were already there.

"Garrett, Skye, please, come in." Darius turned and held up a decanter. "A drink?"

"Yes, please. Make Skye's extra strong," Garrett answered.

Skye turned to his mate and poked him.

"You're so nervous you're making me twitchy," Garrett said while guiding Skye to the couch.

Skye sat and accepted the drink from Darius. "Thank you." He thought it both odd and yet strangely comforting that the emperor wasn't above pouring his own drinks.

"You said alcohol doesn't affect dragons," Skye said to Garrett.

"We don't get drunk, but it will take the edge off." Garrett held his glass up and clinked against Skye's.

"May I have one, Father?" Nik asked.

"No. You can have calla."

"But?"

"No, and you know better than to ask. Your pater has explained this." Darius handed glasses of a fruity soft drink to Nik and River and then took a seat.

Skye looked at Garrett for explanation.

"Pater prefers that we be older and firmly adjusted to our dragon before we begin drinking alcohol," Garrett supplied.

"Oh, but-" Skye started before Garrett stopped him from saying more with a kiss.

Let it go. It doesn't have to make sense and yes, I know you haven't had your dragon much longer than Nik and River.

"What did you need to talk to us about, Father?" Garrett asked.

"Several things, but we'll wait for your pater to join. He wants to be here for the conversation."

Skye sipped at the drink, deciding he'd rather have had calla. It felt like it was burning the lining of his throat and left him feeling very warm. He saw River watching him.

I'd gladly trade you, Skye sent.

I know. I don't mind so much, but it upsets Nik. He thinks they treat him like a child, River responded.

Eh... to them he is and being the youngest he'll probably get it for years to come.

"So, a bear shifter?" Darius asked with a smile.

"Pater's not upset, is he?" River asked. "He seemed okay when I explained it earlier."

"Oh, he finds it very amusing. Yes, he's fine with the idea, and the man has been thoroughly investigated. But I hear our Skye already bonded him? Good thing he checked out." Darius raised his glass with a chuckle.

Skye blushed and let out a sigh of relief. He knew that River had spoken with Pater, but hadn't heard about what their fathers thought about the idea. Knowing it amused them, he'd take as a win.

The door opened, and everyone turned to see Prince Argos enter. Darius stood and met him with a kiss. Skye bit his tongue to keep from reacting when he saw Argos grip and squeeze Darius's ass. He caught that Argos whispered something to the Emperor but he had his shields up and didn't catch what it was.

"Good. Everyone is here." Argos gave a smack to Darius's backside and strode over and to the Emperor's desk. Skye wasn't sure what Pater did, but all of a sudden, his skin felt itchy and there was a high-pitched buzz. "The room is secure. We may speak freely."

"Would you like a drink, my love?" Darius asked.

"No, not yet, thank you." Argos smiled as he sat down and beckoned Darius to join.

"What's this about, Pater?" Nik asked.

"We have things to discuss." Pater's dark eyes focused on Skye, and he couldn't help but squirm under the intensity.

Why does he do this to me, Mistral? He scares me and gets me hot at the same time.

'Because the man is hot as fuck. I also think he is probably the most dangerous man we know. I'm glad he's not a full dragon,' Mistral responded.

"Where did you want to start?" Darius asked.

Skye looked at the others and decided to lower his shields so he could read them. It was already apparent Nik and River were nervous. Garrett seemed to be fairly calm, and both Father and Pater were focused.

"Before we talk about Underhill, Father and I do have news for you on your psions. Kwill and Beck are on a ship back to Draga as we speak."

"Why does that sound like there is a 'but' you're not sharing?" River asked.

"Oh, I'll share, dear. The Psion Council made an attempt to substitute new psions into service in place of Kwill and Beck. They wanted psions who were unquestionably loyal to the Council. It seems Kwill and Beck are considered a little too free-thinking. Father made it very clear that such action would void their treaty and be seen as a hostile action." Pater reached over and squeezed Darius's knee giving him a big smile.

"How'd you know?" Skye asked.

"What? You thought I'd let them return unsupervised? No, Skye. My people not only traveled with them, but I had several already in place on their home world. The Council did not concede easily but after some nudging, they did come to their senses."

Skye's mouth dropped open, and it took a moment for him to form words. "You managed to intimidate psion Council members? But how? They can read minds. How did your people even get close?"

Pater's smile grew even bigger, and Skye picked up enough to realize his belief that Pater was dangerous was very well based.

"Chameleons of course. They are long-time members of the empire and were only too happy to help out. Seems they've taken a liking to you and decided that Kwill is even tolerable."

"Are Beck and Kwill okay?" River asked.

"And can you trust Tennat?" Skye added.

"They were not physically hurt though I am sure they are upset by events. We opted to break them out of confinement and sneak them off-planet. While the leadership had verbally agreed, they were dragging things out. And of course we have filed 'official' complaints. Adding this to the action of their rogues and the limited help they provided has many in the assembly demanding sanctions. As for Tennat, we own that man, dear. There's no way he would jeopardize his current situation. It's a psion's dream," Pater said.

"He is very attached to several of my guards, and I don't think he'd willingly risk giving them up," Father said with a laugh. "You should also know that the psion home world has been notified that they are on probation, and we'll be sending a delegation to discuss how they are going to make things right," Darius added.

"But, Father, they're psions. How can our people hope to be successful?" Nik asked.

"I assure you, son, we have things well in hand. They need the Empire much more than we need them," Darius said.

"But-" River started.

Let it go, River. They aren't going to say more. They don't want us distracted. Besides, can't you feel their confidence? They aren't worried, Skye mind-spoke.

Okay. I've been trying to shield. I still get overwhelmed when there are more than one or two people in the room, River sent.

"Now, on to more important matters. Underhill," Pater said.

"We don't really know anything yet - other than it wants me there," Skye said.

"That's true, son, but we still need to prepare." Father gave a sympathetic look.

"How do we prepare for something, when we don't know what it is?" River asked.

Skye turned to Garrett. Why are you being so quiet? You haven't said a word.

I've learned to wait and let Pater have his turn. He wouldn't have pulled us together unless he had a plan, Garrett sent.

"Father and I have had our teams working on this since Skye's first vision. While we may not know what Underhill wants from Skye, there are those familiar enough with it and its history to provide insights into possible challenges."

"Pater and I want you to be equipped for the most likely scenarios," Father added. "To that end, we have some recommendations."

"Okay. I'll take all the help I can get," Skye said.

Pater sat back, looking pleased. "We met with Regent Thillean and one of their senior mages, Kessalee, to see what we might expect from Underhill or what conditions might be expected. Father also had Colonel Devroe run a strategic analysis of your wing and their abilities."

"Does that mean you have recommendations on who should go with me?" Skye knew from his wing that Mica had already been in such conversations.

"We do. And while Pater and I strongly encourage you to take our advice, we are willing to listen to other ideas," Father said.

Garrett took Skye's hand and gave a squeeze. "Sounds reasonable."

"We recommend taking six of your guards plus Teak as he is familiar with Underhill. Mica will be in charge of your safety and lead your team. We recommend taking Corbin, Bryan, Kuai, Gilian, and Chaz."

"Chaz isn't-"

"We know Chaz isn't fae; however, he was adamant that he go with you. Father and I rather like how protective he is of you. You'll have several 'fae' with you so he should be safe. Thillean has also offered two of his senior guards, a ranger, and the mage Kessalee as part of your party."

"That's a lot of people," Skye said.

"It is, but we're not about to let you, Garrett, and River go without protection," Pater said.

"Whoa, wait a minute. I'm going too!" Nik looked like he was ready to fight.

"My heart tells me it would be a terrible mistake to let you go-"

"You cannot-" Nik interrupted.

Pater held up his hand and continued. "However, my head tells me that River will be stronger with you there. Mates should not be separated, and as much as I fear for you, I agree that you need to go. And Nikias, please listen to the others and don't take chances. This is not the time to be cocky and go off on your own."

"Of course I will, I'm not a dragonling, Pater," Nik retorted.

Pater gave him a knowing look but didn't say more about it. Skye could feel the tension and wanted to move things along.

"Can you say why you chose those particular wing-mates?" Skye asked.

"Yes, of course, Skye. Mica and Corbin are your most experienced guards and are both strong dragons. Corbin has the most extensive military experience. Kuai is without question the best of your guards at blades in hand-to-hand combat. Traditional guard weapons, even the old-fashioned propulsion weapons, don't work reliably, if at all, in Underhill. You will need to rely on bows and blades," Darius explained.

"Gilian is familiar with Underhill and as a former Ranger is well versed in the weapons that work. I was somewhat selfish when selecting Bryan; Jos might have been a slightly stronger option. But they are both well- trained and physically the strongest of your wing in their human forms."

"How was that selfish?" Skye asked.

"Because if we sent Jos, I would be left to deal with a pining Willow. If I didn't know better, I'd say they act like new bond-mates. I barely survived Jos's last absence." Pater gave Skye a curious look as he spoke.

Uh-oh, Mistral, pretty sure he knows what we did.

'No, because that was just yesterday, and he's referring to how they acted before.'

"They are quite attached to each other," Skye agreed.

"Now, as we said, powered weapons and tech will not work in Underhill. The same would be true of powered armor. So we've been pulling together supplies to send with you," Father said.

"Even our power sleds won't work, but Kessalee provided a magical alternative to transport emergency rations and medical supplies in case they are needed," Pater added.

"You'll also be supplied with non-tech armor and blades," Father said.

"You make it sound like we're going into battle," Skye said.

"We don't know what you're going in to. So we want you to be prepared for the worst. Your visions have not been friendly. Even traditional communications won't work so you'll have to rely on your telepathy if you are separated. There's something else you should know," Father paused and glanced at Pater.

"Thillean shared that the gate to Underhill has moved. They had several frantic days where those on either side were unable to find the passage. Fortunately, no one was hurt."

"Where is it, Pater?" Garrett asked.

"In their palace on one of the lower servants' levels. The 'mysterious' new door was reported right away, but it took a while for the information to get to someone who made the connection and recognized the glyphs carved into the lintel over the doorway."

"We've arranged for a transport first thing in the morning. It will take you directly to the elves' palace. Thillean's people will meet you there. We'll also have teams on standby if you need additional support," Father explained.

"We'd also suggest that Venci and Jayce travel with you and remain stationed at the palace. Thillean says they are welcome and will be treated as guests. That way, if you need to communicate or get messages through, you'll have other wing-mates close by," Pater said.

"I don't have any objections," Skye said, glancing at Garrett, River, and Nik to see if they wanted to add anything.

"Good. Then you should retire early and get a good night's rest. Your equipment and armor will be delivered to your rooms and also to your wing-mates before morning. The kitchen already knows to prepare an early breakfast for you so that you are not delayed," Father explained.

"Do you have any questions?" Pater asked.

"I'm sure that I should, but I can't think of anything," Skye said, watching Darius and Argos stand. They moved to each of them one by one and gave a warm hug. Skye tried to not get choked up when he felt Pater's arms wrap around him.

"Good luck, son. I have every confidence in you. Take care and bring yourself and my boys back safe."

  • Scene 4 *

Skye peered out into the night, holding the heavy drapes back just enough that his eyes could adjust. Even with the balcony in the way, the Imperial Guard were easy to spot on this side of the walls and shields, the threat on the other side, not so much. Their dark hides seemed to absorb the light, and only occasionally could he catch a glimpse of their glowing red eyes.

"Did they say how long?" Skye asked without turning. He pulled out the amulet he still wore around his neck and ran it between his thumb and finger, noticing the scratchiness of the glyph carved into its surface. At least they aren't in our head, Mistral.

'True. Do you think they'll be waiting for us in Underhill? If you let me, I bet I could eat them.'

"The Hell Hounds showed up not long after true dark. The guard said they aren't even trying to get through this time, just waiting on the other side. Some sitting and some pacing back and forth. Ow. Careful, Dillon," Garrett said.

"You want them tight so they'll stay in. Quit being a dragonling. You doing okay, Rilien?" Dillon asked.

"I never realized how much hair Garrett had. We've been braiding for hours." Rilien finished one of the tiny long braids and clipped the fastener in place, before starting on the next plait of hair.

"It works for Jerrick. Are you almost done?" Garrett asked.

"Almost. And Jerrick is much more patient and goes to a salon to have his done." Dillon's fingers worked in the long hair, quickly making another braid.

"I like having you do it."

"Lucky me," Dillon snorted. "Though I agree it will be easier to care for."

"I think it looks nice," Christos said.

Skye pulled back from the window and went to sit with Christos on the bed, pulling him in against his chest. He looked at his mate and tried to decide how he felt about the braids. It somehow made Garrett's facial features more prominent, maybe more exotic. He was also surprised how much length it took off when the hair was in braids.

"Are you going to braid yours too?" Christos asked.

"Mine isn't long enough to worry about." Skye nuzzled into Christos's neck and hugged him tighter.

"Sure it is." Chris reached a hand back and ran his fingers through Skye's hair. "Your hair is so soft."

"Glad you like it. Yours is growing in really well. Have you decided how long you'll grow it out?"

"I want it to be to my shoulder's like Chaz's. His is so sexy."

"Chris, you are every bit as sexy as Chaz. Give yourself time. You doing okay with your panther?" Skye asked.

"Mm... yeah. The shifts have gotten easier. I wish we had more shifters around that I could talk to. Chaz is good about answering questions, but he's rarely here and Gregg..."

"Gregg isn't being good to you?" Skye was concerned since he hadn't noticed anything.

"He's fine. He's not around much, and when he is, he's all stiff and official-like."

"I think he's nervous. Don't worry; I'll talk to him," Skye said.

"Done!" Rilien said, lifting his arms in celebration before joining Skye and Chris on the bed.

"I have one more; sit still." Dillon pushed Garrett back into the chair when he tried to get up.

"So mean," Garrett grumbled.

"Are you sure you have to go?" Rilien pressed into Skye's side, looking into his eyes with concern.

"Yeah. But it will be fine."

Christos snorted. "Liar."

"We don't want you to go." A tear slid down Rilien's cheek.

"Hey, it will be okay. I'm taking the guys with me, and they'll make sure I don't do anything stupid."

"What about River?" Christos asked. "Can you say the same thing for him?"

"I don't think Underhill wants to hurt me. I think it's asking for my help," Skye answered.

"Good evasion there, Skye," Garrett called out.

"Now, you're done," Dillon said, patting Garrett's shoulder.

Garrett reached up and pulled Dillon around and into his lap. "Yeah? Guess I should reward you then." Garrett gripped the back of Dillon's head and pulled him into a kiss. Dillon wrapped his arms around Garrett, returning the kiss.

"You'll be careful, right?" Dillon whispered.

"You too? Yes, Skye and I and all our wing-mates will be very careful. And we're going to miss you all terribly." Garrett assured Dillon.

"But I feel much better having you guys here and safe," Skye added.

"I don't like being separated," Rilien said as he burrowed into Skye.

"I don't either. If I had my way, the whole wing would be together."

"And you'll make sure Corbin is okay and comes back?" Rilien's voice was muffled as he spoke into Skye's arm.

"...and Chaz," Christos added.

"I plan on every one of us coming back whole," Skye said.

"But Chaz isn't fae. What if Underhill traps them there?" Christos turned to look at Skye as he asked.

"I will not let Chaz get trapped there. He may not be able to open the gateway himself, but everyone else with us can."

"Father won't let anyone be kept there against their will. Remember what he did for all the humans that had been held captive?" Garrett asked.

"Some of them couldn't leave though..." Rilien said.

"Yes, but they'd been there for centuries and would have had a hard time adjusting to the outside world. They are still free, even if they have to live out the remainder of their time in Underhill. They are no longer slaves and are treated as guests," Garrett explained.

"True." Rilien conceded.

"And while we're gone, we need all of you to help Braden get Arcturus settled in. He's not used to living in the palace, and you know how scary Pater can be," Skye said.

"Not scary to me," Christos said.

"That's because you have him wrapped around your little finger. All you've got to do is give him sad kitty eyes and bat your lashes," Rilien retorted.

"Nuh-uh," Christos objected.

"Doesn't matter. Arcturus needs your help. Dillon, you can help him with the palace staff and how best to deal with Pater and Father. And I bet if you ask nicely, Chris, he'll be glad to talk about shifting and managing your panther. He's a bear, but he worked a lot with cubs."

"Maybe," Chris said.

"What about me?" Rilien asked.

"You can be his friend and help him learn about the wing. I doubt he knows much about magic, either. He's going to need to learn a lot of stuff to keep up with us," Skye said.

"And as much as I'd love to keep all of you here, I think it's time for bed. We have an early day tomorrow," Garrett said.

"Do you want us to send you off?" Rilien asked.

"No need for you to get up early. Give us extra hugs tonight." Skye turned Christos to him and gave him a kiss and an extra squeeze before doing the same to Rilien. "Go give Garrett some love."

As Rilien and Christos said good night to Garrett, Dillon came over and kissed Skye goodnight. "I'll have breakfast brought up to the room in the morning. That gives you a few extra minutes."

"Thanks. The others are arriving on the shuttle and will pick us up outside the palace grounds," Garrett said.

"Love you. Be careful."

"Love you too, Dillon. Good night."

Dillon hesitated, and Skye could see him fighting back tears before he turned and went into his room.

"If I wasn't worried before, seeing how it is affecting them would get me there." Skye pulled Garrett onto the bed.

"Want me to distract you?"

"Yes and no. As much as I hate to say this, I think sleep would be the better choice."

"Let's ignore good reason. I've missed you so much." Garrett crawled onto the bed and pulled Skye into a kiss.

When he finally pulled back, Skye was totally on board with distraction. And then tried to pull Garrett back into his arms as his mate sat up.

"I loved how you took me last night. So fucking hot. Want to do that again? We could even use the dragon restraints while you have your way with me," Garrett suggested, waggling his eyebrows.

"Let's save that idea. Tonight I want you inside me. Just don't let it go to your head," Skye warned.

"Never." Garrett crossed his heart and smiled. He pulled off his shirt, and Skye was glad they'd already made the decision because seeing Garrett's muscles, the full round pecs, nipples begging to be sucked, and strong arms to hold him down, Skye was done with words.

Skye shucked his clothes as quickly as he could and didn't tear his eyes away from his hunky mate. Seeing Garrett was already hard and wet just made him all the more desperate for the feel of Garrett inside him.

Garrett pressed Skye into the bed and kissed him slowly, then began working his way down his jaw and neck. "You are so beautiful. I'm the luckiest dragon ever."

Skye moaned as Garrett stopped to suck in his nipple as he rubbed his abs against Skye's erection. His skin was hot and smooth, and with how much Skye was leaking, provided just enough friction.

"I'm not going to last long," Skye moaned.

"Try harder. I just got started." Garrett slid down farther, kissing down Skye's abs before using the flat of his tongue and swirling around Skye's cock head. Then he began licking up the sides.

"Not a lollypop," Skye complained.

"Hm, not sure about that, you are pretty sweet." Garrett continued to lick then took all of Skye into the wet heat of his mouth. He pulled off just as Skye thought he was about to cum. Garrett moved to Skye's thighs then flipped him over before burying his face in Skye's crack.

"Garrett!" Skye cried as his mate's tongue zeroed in on his hole. Skye clawed at the sheets trying to hold on as his entire world became the sensations coming from his dragon hole.

Oh, God, Mistral, if there's one thing I'll admit to being wrong about, it's rimming. This is the absolutely best sensation ever.

'So not gross and disgusting?' Mistral snickered.

"Uggghhhh," Skye moaned as Garrett extended his tongue and opened Skye up.

Garrett made happy humming noises sending little shivers through Skye's insides.

"Garrett, please," Skye pleaded.

Garrett pulled out and kissed up Skye's back. He moved quickly enough that Skye didn't have time to complain again before he felt the heat of Garrett's cock at his hole. He gripped the sheets tighter and braced himself as Garrett pushed inside.

"Yes," Skye moaned as he felt Garrett's thick cock fill him in the best way ever. "Now, move."

"As you wish," Garrett whispered and thrust his hips, making Skye see stars. He did it over and over again until Skye thought he would come apart. His brain had stopped working and even Mistral had gone silent as the sensations overwhelmed them. He felt the orgasm building and couldn't even give warning.

Garrett pounded harder, and then it hit. Skye cried out as his and Garrett's orgasms struck at the same time. Their magic flared, and all they could do was ride the wave. It no longer took planning or effort for them to share their power; it just happened.

Skye wasn't sure if he passed out or just imagined it, but he came around with Garrett's hard cock still filling him, and his body pressed against Skye's back. Skye flexed and wiggled his ass and then whimpered as an aftershock almost blacked him out.

"Careful, babe. You do that again, and I think I'll pass out." Garrett nuzzled into Skye's neck, nipping at his skin.

"Think I already did," Skye muttered into the bed.

  • Scene 5 *

Skye couldn't remember being as nervous as he was today. He barely paid attention to the Imperial Guards who'd escorted them to the transport in the pre-dawn darkness. He stepped up the ramp and felt an odd sense of deja vu. Garrett bumped against him, nodding toward the lavatory and raising his eyebrows.

Quit. No, I'm not going in there again with you.

Again? This is a different shuttle. We haven't initiated it yet, Garrett sent back.

Skye felt the heat rush to his face and noticed his wing-mates all looking at him curiously. Likely they felt his embarrassment but weren't sure why. No, Garrett.

Skye dropped into one of the stiff flight seats next to Mica and pulled the harness down, securing himself. The body armor felt strange, and he had more layers than usual to adjust as he got situated.

"Breathe, Skye. It's going to be okay. We got your back," Mica said.

"Wow, this is just like the one we took from the station when we got here," River said as he stepped on board, taking a seat farther down the row and helping Nik get buckled in beside him. Skye did a double-take on seeing River. He looked like he stepped out of a video game and didn't look at all like himself.

"Yeah, same for me. Geez, that seems like forever ago." Skye looked over at Garrett and took his hand, intertwining their fingers.

"A lot has changed since then, baby." Garrett managed to lean over far enough that if Skye met him halfway, they could kiss.

"Sure has." Skye looked around and checked that everyone was there. He named off those going with him in his head as he counted noses and paused when he saw Teak. Skye felt bad he hadn't gone to greet Teak since it had been a while, and then another thought hit and he started to panic. "Shit, did someone grab the crates that-"

"Skye, we have them," Mica assured him.

"Oh, okay." Skye leaned back against the hard seat back and closed his eyes. I can do this; I can do this.

'We have our wing-mates. We'll be fine,' Mistral whispered.

Skye decided to keep his shields up and meditate for the trip. He didn't want to add any of his wing's nervousness to his own.

The trip took less time than he expected, and Skye was somewhat surprised when their pilot announced they were landing. Skye was feeling pretty good until he heard River's loud humming.

"River!" Skye objected.

"What is that song? It sounds familiar," Garrett asked.

"'The Imperial March.' It was Vader's theme. Thanks, River. Way to set the mood!" Skye yelled.

"I find your lack of humor disturbing," River said in a fake, deep voice. "And we are all dressed in black."

Skye sighed and unfastened the restraints and stood up, stretching to get the kinks out of his muscles. "Okay, I think I'm ready."

Skye waited until Mica and Corbin exited first then gave the all-clear for Garrett and him to come down the ramp.

Skye looked around, surprised that they were on the edge of a meadow. The sun was just peeking over the horizon. Mica pointed to a grove of trees behind them that stood taller than city skyscrapers.

"That's where we're going. This is as close as we could land. The palace is in that forest," Corbin said.

"Okay." He watched as everyone came down the ramp. Bryan disappeared to the other side of the transport for a few minutes then returned with two battered cargo crates in tow.

"Beats carrying them," Bryan said as he gripped the rope that was tied to the floating crates.

Skye could agree that carrying them would be awkward. They were small enough you could get your arms around them, but it wouldn't have been pleasant. Skye had no trouble wrapping his mind around the grav sleds that were used to move heavy cargo, but having the crates float a foot off the ground because of magic, that was harder to accept.

Mica walked over, closing his bio-com as he approached. "They are on their way."

It was only moments before Skye heard the tell-tale whine of the air cars approaching. There were several coming into view, skimming across the meadow toward them.

"How do you want us split up?" Skye asked.

"You stick with Garrett. Corbin and Kuai will ride with you," Mica said.

Skye felt Garrett's presence moments before his arms wrapped around him. "Almost there."

"Yeah." Skye took a deep breath and watched as Mica took charge and talked with the elves who'd brought the air cars. He quickly got them all loaded, and they were on their way to the palace. The forest looked fairly normal when they entered, but as they moved deeper, the undergrowth disappeared and the trees were much larger. He was surprised there was no road; they traveled what appeared to be a cleared pathway.

When the city came into view, Skye gasped in awe and heard Corbin and Kuai do likewise. It wasn't anything like the area where they'd had the Moon Festival. The buildings and structures seemed to grow almost organically out of the trees. They wrapped around the large trunks and bridged between one tree and another.

Something they did have in common with the area he'd been to before was the fine, almost delicate architecture. There was no doubt when they reached the palace. The building, trees, and towers seemed to blend together in a marvel of nature blending with elf-built structures.

The air car came to a stop in a courtyard of paving stones and grasses. They stepped out and waited until everyone was there. Skye saw Regent Thillean and a couple of other elves coming out of the palace toward them. He felt bad he still hadn't had time to go around and talk to his wing-mates.

"Your Majesty," Skye greeted with a bow.

"Your Majesties," Thillean greeted in return. "But you don't have to bow to me. I'm no longer king. Prince Garrett, I do hope all the unpleasantness has been forgiven?"

Skye tried not to smile at the nervous tone in Thillean's voice. He had mostly forgiven the man for mounting his mate. Even knowing that they were both under the influence, he didn't doubt that Garrett was Thillean's type.

"It has," Garrett responded. "Thank you again for your help arranging things."

"Of course. Let me introduce Bram and Noud. They will be accompanying you on your trip to Underhill." Thillean gestured to each as he said their name.

Skye turned to the elves beside Thillean and nodded. "I'm Skye, and this is my mate, Garrett." He was surprised that the elves were dressed in subdued browns and greens. He'd somewhat expected flamboyant and colorful.

"Both Bram and Noud have served many years in Underhill. They were part of Lady Telawynn's personal guard, and were recommended by her for your team." Thillean looked at both guards, and Skye knew he wasn't the only one who found them attractive.

Like many of the other elves he'd met, they were slender and lean but taller at about six feet. He had no doubts that for an elf, they were well-muscled and likely quite proficient with weapons. Bram had strawberry blond hair pulled back in a queue and soft green eyes. Noud was as blond as Skye and River with pale blue eyes. As he looked more closely, he realized their clothing was either leather or a very similar fabric. Durable and functional. They both had swords at their belts and longbows on their backs.

"Mica, could you please introduce Bram and Noud to the rest of the team while we finish with Thillean?" Skye asked.

Skye waited a moment until Mica had drawn the guards away. "Anything we need to know?"

"We sadly know very little. The dreams and sendings have only grown stronger. There are two others who will be joining you, Raphael, one of our best Rangers and Kessalee, a senior mage. They will meet you at the gateway," Thillean said.

"Might as well move on then," Garrett said.

"Yeah," Skye grudgingly agreed.

  • Scene 6 *

Skye was feeling somewhat dazed as they finally made their way into the lower levels of the palace. The beauty and artistry of the palace took his breath away. Even the simple things like how the windows caught the morning sun and created an intricate and colorful tapestry of light on the floors and walls. The entranceway and receiving hall soared high into the trees, and he was disappointed that they were going down, not up.

"You doing okay?" Garrett asked, giving Skye a shoulder bump.

"A little overwhelmed, Venci and Jayce seemed okay with holding things down on this side." Skye was following Gilian, who'd befriended Bram and Noud and took the lead in guiding them to the gateway.

Garrett laughed. "Did you see the way Venci was looking around when they were led off? I'm thinking Bryan isn't the only one with a thing for elves."

"Um, I think Venci has a thing for men, regardless of their race and poor Jayce."

"HA! The look on his face when Thillean kissed his hand and welcomed his beauty to the palace." Skye also thought it interesting that Thillean bid his farewell and offered to take Venci and Jayce on a tour.

"He was as red as Venci was green. Not sure Venci likes having competition," Skye said as they turned down yet another non-descript hallway.

Skye stumbled as he felt the sudden presence of strong magic. It was like having static electricity rush across his skin. Garrett caught him and wrapped his arm around Skye. Skye saw a couple of elves waiting for them ahead and guessed they were the last two members to join their party. One was dressed similarly to the guards, and the other had a staff and satchel with softer looking clothes.

"Princess Gilian, what an honor," one of the elves greeted. Skye was curious, but in the low light and with Bram and Noud in the way, he couldn't see which one.

"Raph. What did I do to offend Thillean so badly he stuck us with you?" Gilian said.

"Oh, please. I know you missed me," the melodic voice cooed.

"Like a toothache," Gilian snapped and stepped back, letting Skye finally see their new party members.

"Oh shit," Skye said before he could stop himself.

Gilian's eyebrow shot up, and she gave a curious look to Skye and then back at the elf she'd been talking to. Skye?

Crap, it's him, he responded to Gilian and included Garrett by default.

It's who, Skye? This is Raphael Night Blossom. He is or was a fellow Ranger and an absolute pain in my ass.

Skye stared at the pretty elf now that he could see him, and while he wasn't exactly the same as in the vision, there was no missing the leaf green eyes or the silky dark hair pulled back in a braid. Okay, maybe it's because he is fully dressed, Skye admitted to Mistral.

'He is the one, Skye, the one from the dream.'

So, Gil, remember when I described my first dream, and I said there was this gorgeous elf who um... kind of got intimate with me before I fell?

No! Gilian turned to look at Raphael, who glanced back and forth between them, confused.

I think you mean, rode your dick, babe, Garrett offered helpfully.

Um, yeah and I don't have my shields completely up, and I can tell, he's kinda thinking of doing the same thing-but for real.

Gilian burst out laughing, bending over and grabbing her knees. She stood, winked at Skye, and then turned to Raphael, who was staring at Skye with unabashed hunger. "You know, Raph, maybe I've been too hard on you. If everyone thinks your good enough to support Prince Skye, then I'll try to be more civil." Gilian stepped in close to Raph and ran her fingers up the bottom of his jaw to his ear. "After all, you are rather easy on the eyes."

Skye bit his bottom lip so he wouldn't laugh. He might draw blood, but he didn't want to embarrass himself or them. I think whatever game Raphael has been playing with Gilian just got turned on its head.

'Poor boy almost pissed himself,' Mistral responded.

I think we need to find out from Gil what the rest of the story is. She looks way too pleased, Garrett mind-spoke.

I think it might be best if I kept my distance. We don't need any more complications, and I get the feeling Raphael is full of complications.

You aren't feeling a magic pull? Garrett asked, clearly checking out the elf.

Not even a tingle, Skye responded.

'What about the dream? You don't think it might have meant something?' Mistral asked.

For now, I'm ignoring it. Skye turned to the other elf. "And may I assume that means you are Kessalee?" The elf was one of the oldest Skye had yet to meet. His hair was silvery white and plaited into fanciful braids. He also had a neatly trimmed goatee and pale gray eyes.

"I am. It is an honor to serve your Majesties. We've heard much about you and your prior visit to Underhill. Not to mention, we understand you are a favorite of Lady Telawynn."

"Hm, I think you have that backward. Lady Telawynn is a favorite of mine. I think I just amuse her."

Kessalee laughed. "Well met, young prince. Are you ready for me to activate the portal?"

Skye looked back and caught Mica's eye. "We ready?"

"Not quite. We should arm ourselves before we pass through. The Emperor didn't want us to give offense walking fully armed into the palace, but now that we're here, I think it's time. I'll distribute the blades and crossbows." Mica opened one of the two crates that Bryan had been towing along.

Skye accepted a short sword and blades that Mica handed him, securing them in their holsters while the other guards did likewise. He saw there was some discussion with Kuai but figured he already was carrying several blades. Then Mica gave small crossbows to Corbin and Bryan while strapping one to his back. Gilian already had her longbow.

"We're ready, sir," Mica announced.

Sir? Sir? Where did that come from? Skye didn't even try to keep the disbelief out of his voice when addressing Mica.

Seemed appropriate with an audience and all, Mica sent.

No. They can adjust. Skye humphed as he turned and saw Garrett smiling at him. "You, quit."

Garrett laughed and leaned over kissing Skye on the cheek. "You're so cute."

Mica turned to the escort. "May we leave the empty crate here?"

"Certainly," Kessalee responded.

"Can we go now, or does my brother need more cuddles?" River snarked.

"Please open the portal, Kessalee," Skye said as he attempted to sound calm.

"Everyone, please line up," Mica called out. "You know the order."

Skye watched as twinkling golden light raced up the vines carved into the columns on either side of the rough door, then spread across the lintel, and the glyphs began to glow as well. Skye didn't remember glyphs at the Moon Festival and wondered if this was good or bad.

"Try to relax and breathe normally as you pass through, it can be disorienting and may even be slightly painful," Kessalee said loudly enough to carry down the hallway.

"Guys, it will sever your connection to our wing-mates. It's not permanent, but it may be unpleasant until you adjust," Skye said and used a push from his telepathy to make sure everyone got the message.

When it was finally his turn to step through the glowing portal, Skye held tight to Garrett's hand and stepped through. He'd prepared himself for the stab of pain and was surprised when all he got was a bit of vertigo. Losing the connection to his other wing-mates was disturbing, but at least several of them would be with him.

Skye grabbed Garrett as his mate cried out and dropped to his knees. Skye kept him upright and held him as Garrett adjusted.

"Fuck, give me a minute," Garrett groaned. He seemed to be counting his breaths as he stared at the dirt-covered floor. "It didn't feel like that the last time."

Skye took a moment and looked around. It was nothing like what he saw on his last visit, but it did look a lot like his recent dreams. A wide hallway that had fallen into disrepair. Rubble and dirt strewn about the floor and vines and roots breaking through the walls and ceiling.

"Okay. Fuck, I thought I was going to lose my breakfast." Garrett stood and pulled Skye into a hug.

Skye pulled back and held Garrett's face in his hands looking into his eyes. "Huh... that's interesting."

"Skye are you upset, your eyes..."

"It's part of being in Underhill. See how our skin shimmers? Caladwen said it was Underhill recognizing our magic. It also means when we're here, our eyes are our dragon eyes," Skye explained.

"So mine?"

"Are showing your flames. I should check on the others. Give yourself some time to adjust." Skye turned and started going to each of his wing. Gilian and the other elves didn't have any trouble with crossing. He finally reached Teak and gave him a big hug.

"Sorry I didn't greet you sooner," Skye said.

"A lot going on. Hopefully this time in Underhill goes better," Teak joked.

"I don't know... you and I had a real nice conversation in the delea grove," Skye reminded Teak and enjoyed the blush and wave of lust he got in return.

"Yeah, guess we did. That was the day you forever corrupted me," Teak said in a sad voice shaking his head.

"No, love, that would have been the day I rescued you from the prison."

"What? So you were planning that all along?" Teak protested in mock horror.

Skye shrugged and snuck a quick kiss before moving on to Mica and Corbin. They both shimmered and showed their dragon eyes as well.

"All good. A little worse than the last time we crossed, but it passed quickly," Mica said.

Kuai and Bryan were both fine as well, then Skye found Chaz sitting against the wall, staring at his arms. He looked up, and Skye clenched his teeth as he swallowed the gasp that almost got out.

"I'm glowing," Chaz looked up, his brilliant blue eyes burning like gems.

"Welcome to the fae, Chaz. Guess you aren't as mortal as we thought. See?" Skye held out his hand and then pointed to his eyes.

"But I'm not a dragon; I'm a shifter."

"Well... I guess Underhill disagrees, besides dragons are shifters too. You said were-daggers were hybrids of dragons crossed with panthers. Maybe you have more dragon in you than you thought. But as you can see, Underhill considers you to be magical. All the dragons are shimmering just like you, and while you can't see them yourself, your eyes are glowing too."

"Well, fuck."

"It's not a bad thing, Chaz." Skye offered his hand, pulling Chaz to his feet.

"Guess we don't need to worry about him being trapped here, do we bro?" River asked.

"Hey, how are you two faring. Was it too painful?" Skye asked, looking over River and Nik.

"It wasn't fun, but I'm okay," Nik said.

"So where's the magical forest you promised me? Looks to me like we got dropped onto the dungeon level." River scowled as he looked around.

"Yeah, not where I was before. But unfortunately, it does look a lot like what I saw in the visions."

"Where is the light coming from?" Nik asked.

Skye looked around and realized that he'd taken for granted that they could see. But Nik was right; there was no light source that he could see.

"The magic of Underhill," Kessalee said behind Skye, startling him. "There will be many things that do not make sense. Best to accept that you are now in a place and time that is both magic and somewhat sentient."

"Kessalee, there's been a change," Bram called out.

"Excuse me," Kessalee turned and walked down the hallway to where Bram, Noud, and Raph were standing.

Skye followed, pulling Garrett along with him.

"What is it?" Kessalee asked.

Bram pointed to a large hallway that branched off to their left. "This wasn't here before. Noud and I mapped this area out yesterday to make sure we could find our way back to the main parts of the hold and the throne room. There was not a corridor here. It was a solid wall."

"When you were mapping, did you find a room with lots of doors and an odd column in the center?" Skye asked.

"No, sir. Nothing like that. Mostly just empty hallways like this, some collapsed and closed off. No rooms or doorways until we got back to the main hold."

Skye stepped past Kessalee and ran his hand over the cornerstones, they looked just as old and worn as the other walls. The stones gave a faint glow where he touched and then faded when he pulled back. There was nothing he could see that would indicate that it hadn't always been there. Even the dust and rubble on the floor looked undisturbed. Skye closed his eyes and focused on his other sight and senses. Do you sense anything, Mistral?

'Nothing strong, but I do have the feeling that's where we are supposed to go,' Mistral responded.

"Strange." Kessalee did a similar investigation, running his hands over the walls and then said something under his breath. Skye could feel a tickle of magic but wasn't sure what the mage had done. "I've not seen it happen in an age, but when I was young, Underhill often changed unexpectedly. Moving things around, adding and taking away. It's been dormant so long..."

"Does Underhill ever speak to you?" River asked.

I need to be more careful, Mistral. I never even heard him approach.

"Not that I've heard. Most of our legends say communication came through dreams and visions," Kessalee said.

"Might be worth a try," River said, looking at Skye.

"Underhill, please tell me what you want from us? What do you expect me to do?" Skye called out. His words echoed, giving him a chill because no one else's words had.

"Well, that's creepy," Garrett muttered.

Skye waited, keeping his shields down and his mind open. He caught something, on the very edge of awareness. Voices, calling... He turned his head, and they were a little louder and coming from down the new hallway. As he looked off into the distance, the lighting grew stronger. What had been lost in shadow, now started lighting up. "The voices are that way."

"Um, you don't happen to have motion lights do you?" River asked.

"What?" Kessalee asked.

"Yeah, didn't think so. Well, Bro... I'm taking that as a 'come this way.'"

"You sure that's a good idea? Maybe it's a trap," Nik asked.

Low growling sounds rumbled from the hallway behind where they'd come through.

"What's that way?" Garrett asked, pointing toward the growls.

"That's the way to the hold," Noud answered.

"I don't think Underhill wants us to go that way," River said.

"And I really don't want to meet the Hell Hounds. Mica, let's get everyone moving. We're going this way." Skye gestured to the "new" corridor.

Mica quickly organized everyone letting Raph and Gilian take the lead, followed by Bram and Noud. The elves had insisted they be in the front since they were 'overall' more familiar with Underhill and its quirky ways. Skye wasn't sure that was much help, but he didn't have a strong enough opinion to argue.

"I was really hoping for the forest you described," River muttered as they slowly moved up the hallway. "And maybe no growly pursuers."

"I was hoping for the delea grove," Nik said quietly.

"Do you want me to fly back and see if someone's following? I could shift." Teak walked up behind Skye and put a hand on Skye's shoulder.

"Absolutely not. You can keep your cute little fairy butt right here and be safe." Skye was horrified at the thought of a Hell Hound catching Teak. Skye struggled not to giggle as he felt the tickle of Teak's breath on his ear when the fairy whispered.

"So you think my butt is cute?"

Teak, I think your butt is very sexy, and I'd like it to stay whole and unmarked.

The team in front of him stopped, but Skye wasn't sure why. They parted, and Kessalee beckoned him forward.

"We've come to a cross-corridor and aren't sure which way we should proceed. Do you have any sense of a direction?" Kessalee asked as they watched the Rangers explore the hallway on the left.

Skye looked down the right, the center, then left. It seemed pretty obvious to him, but just in case he closed his eyes, listening intently with his ears as well as his magic. The whispers quickly confirmed his choice. "Left, where the tunnel is illuminated. The right and straight-on path are both dark in the distance. The left hallway isn't. I think Underhill is leading us."

"Does it seem odd to you? We've traveled quite some distance, but there've been no other side tunnels, no doors or rooms...nothing's changed." Bram did not look happy.

"Patience, Bram. Does anything look familiar to you, Prince Skye?" Kessalee asked.

Skye looked around and then down at the floor, using his boot to push away some of the dirt that covered the floor. He knelt down and brushed more of the dust away, revealing the interlocking stonework. It could be the same place, Mistral. But the tunnel we were in was in worse shape.

"Guys, you need to see this," Gilian called.

They moved to where Gilian and Raphael stood. Skye felt his heart beating faster as he approached. Gilian and Raph were standing to the side of an archway that opened into a much larger space. But unlike the hall they'd been traveling, it was draped in shadows.

Skye, the um... growls are getting louder, Bryan sent. He and Kuai were bringing up the rear.

I think we're being herded. Tell me if I'm wrong, but seems like they get louder or closer every time we stop, Skye sent out to his wing. They'd decided before they even came to the elf kingdom that they'd keep the link open or as River referred to it, group chat mode.

I agree. Gil, is the room big enough to use your bow? Mica asked.

Appears so, yes.

I'd suggest Gil and Raphael pull their bows. The rest of us have your swords ready. Bryan, ready your crossbow as well in case those growls get too close. Don't worry about the crate if things go wrong. Leave it if you have to, Mica instructed.

The team carefully moved into the large room. Parts of the ceiling and walls had collapsed, but it appeared to have once been a grand space. There were large columns and signs of mosaics on the walls and floor.

"What do you think it was?" Skye asked no one in particular.

"Reminds me of some of the illustrations I've seen. Maybe a ballroom or a ceremonial hall? Not sure and even more puzzled why it's still here and like this," Kessalee answered.

"There's a faint light off to the right." Raph pointed with his bow.

Now that they'd moved farther into the room, Skye could see archways and openings leading off in different directions. Most were as dark as night. Just as he was about to say they might as well go that way, a shadow of a figure appeared in the archway.

"Everyone back!" Raph shouted.

"Don't shoot," Skye called as he moved up behind Raphael. As soon as he moved closer the shadow turned and moved farther into the corridor. "I'm pretty sure that's the same shadow dude from my visions." He listened for a moment, but the whispers and voices were silent.

River smacked Skye's arm. "Are you kidding me? You want us to follow the wraith lord into who knows what?" They all turned as the growling sounds grew louder behind them.

"Do you like Hell Hounds better? And maybe it would be better not to insult him... it... whatever?" Skye pointed out.

"Same positions as before," Mica said.

Skye gripped the handle of his blade tighter but wasn't sure what good it would be against a shadow. He reached the archway and realized it wasn't so much a hallway as an antechamber, and it looked all too familiar.

"Skye?" Garrett prompted.

"I think we've arrived. The big room I hadn't seen before and I got here through more broken-down hallways, but that is the room." Skye looked at the intricately carved doorway and wondered briefly if there was once a door as well. The room beyond was better lit, but Skye wasn't sure he was ready.

"With your permission, Raphael and I will check out the next room," Gilian asked.

"Do it," Mica responded.

"If the vines are there, be careful not to cut them. They bleed acid," Skye called out.

Even in the midst of their dilemma, Kessalee looked like a kid on Christmas morning. His face couldn't hide his glee as he ran his hands over the walls and looked around. "Do you know how long it's been since an elf has laid eyes on this space? The air hums with magic and the carvings and work that went into this..."

I think he's going to cum in his pants, River sent with a mental snort.

River, that's not polite. He's a mage, and this is exciting. It's his people's history. Skye felt Chaz coming up close and reached out wrapping his arms over his wing-mate's shoulder.

Given how the place reacts to you, I think it might be just as much your history. Gilian wasn't even in the room but Skye could imagine the expression on her face. Um, so this room is pretty creepy, and Raphael and I can't go in far. The thorny vines are everywhere and okay, we're coming back out.

"Crap. I really hoped they'd be gone," Skye muttered.

"Do you think they're as deadly as what we shared in your vision?" Chaz asked.

"Yeah." Skye turned and looked into Chaz's glowing blue eyes. "You okay. You feel off."

"A little freaked that I'm fae and glowing like this, I feel like a target."

"The last time I was here, the glow faded to just a shimmer after I was here a while. But I think the eyes stay the same." Skye turned back to the group where they were talking about options.

Mica stepped up to Skye. "Kessalee is going to try using magic against the vines and see if he can get them to pull back. Gilian said there's only room for one person to maneuver in the room past the first couple of feet."

They watched and waited. Given the guards in front of him and the doorway, Skye couldn't see anything other than some flashes of light and feel the tingle of magic on his skin. He sensed rather than saw Kessalee returning as the others parted, and the mage walked up to him.

"Any success?" Mica asked.

"No. If anything, the use of magic made it worse. The vines started moving more quickly and crawling toward me. I decided a retreat was in order." Kessalee's pale skin burned bright with his embarrassment.

"Don't feel bad. We appreciate you trying. If I didn't think I'd turn the entire room into a lava pool, I'd shift and use my fire." Skye closed his eyes and tried to think of what else they could try.

"You know you can control the temperature and force of your fire?" Corbin said.

"Say what?" Skye asked in surprise.

"You can learn to regulate the flames. I'm not saying now is the time, but if you think dragon fire might work, it's a possibility," Corbin said.

"Corbin, there's not room for any of you to shift in this room. You'd likely bring the place down on our heads," Chaz said.

"Kuai could," Garrett interrupted. "His form is long and snake-like and while it would be tight..."

"That's true, Kuai could." Mica looked around like he was visually measuring the antechamber.

Kuai, can you come up here please? Skye sent.

"Sir?" Kuai looked back and forth between them, and Skye realized that since he wasn't mind-speaking earlier, Kuai might not have heard their idea.

"How are you at controlling your fire?" Mica asked.

"Pretty decent; why?" Kuai asked.

"You think you could fit in this room in your dragon form?" Garrett asked.

Kuai looked around and then stepped off the room. "It would be really tight and I'd have to extend into the large room as well, but I think I could."

"It would also help with the risk of blow-back," Kessalee said behind Mica. "His body would block much of it, and if we waited in the large chamber to the sides, we might be safe.

"What were you thinking?" Kuai asked.

"The vines are filling the room of doors. We need to remove them and thought dragon fire might work."

"... and you're all too big to shift in here." Kuai nodded his head in understanding. "Bonus points for the little guy."

"You aren't little, just shaped better to fit the need at hand," Skye clarified.

"Okay, I'll do it, but it will cost you," Kuai said with a wicked smile.

"Kuai, we're a team and working together. Why do you need... oh..." Mica snapped his lips shut and blushed. Corbin didn't try to hide his laughter.

"What do you want, Kuai?" Skye asked hesitantly.

"Inspiration. I want a send-off kiss from you and your mate." Kuai put his hands on his hips as if daring them to refuse.

"Easy, peasy," Garrett responded. "Mica, while we motivate Kuai, why don't you and Corbin get the rest of the group in the main hall and maybe position them in case we get unwanted hounds?"

Skye watched in amusement as Kuai climbed Garrett like a tree, wrapping his legs around Garrett's hips, and he claimed his mouth. Skye waited for the jealousy to rear and was surprised when what showed up was lust. Seeing Garrett and Kuai in a lip lock just made him want to join.

'Skye, Skye, I keep telling you. Garrett is our mate, and there's no need to be jealous, and besides, that's Kuai, a wing-brother who belongs to us! Maybe think about how you could convince him to join us in a threesome.' Mistral's tone sounded a little frustrated to Skye.

Garrett set Kuai on the ground, and Skye thought his eyes were burning even brighter. The armor and utility pants did a good job of hiding whatever reaction Garrett might be having.

"You enjoyed that?" Skye asked, seeing Kuai stalking him.

"Mm-hm, it was a warm-up."

"You don't have to circle me. I said we could kiss. It's not like I'm prey."

"But you are, and I want you to remember this. What if it's my last? You want it to be special, don't you?"

"Kuai, don't even talk like that." Skye's whole body seemed to be on edge. Kuai might not be able to tell, but he was hard as a rock. Keeping his shields down was a double-edged blade. He felt Kuai press into his back, this breath ghosting over Skye's neck, his fingers parting Skye's hair so he could lay gentle kisses on his skin.

Kuai slid around Skye's body. The suit blocked much of the sensation, but he could still feel the slight pressure to know where his wing-mates hands roamed. Kuai kissed up Skye's throat and pulled Skye's head down just enough so their lips touched.

Mine, Skye hummed in his head as he tasted Kuai. He opened his mouth and let Kuai plunder him. The kiss was passionate, and Skye felt his control slipping. Kuai bit at his bottom lip as he pulled away. The fire in Kuai's eyes danced.

"As a wise dragon once told me, always leave them wanting," Kuai whispered, and the heat of his breath sent chills through Skye's body.

"Ummmm"

"So, you'll hold my stuff for me until I can change back?" Kuai started undressing, and Skye couldn't help but watch as the ripped golden body was revealed. If he weren't totally turned on by him before, he was now.

Kuai folded up his stuff and set it on the boots before picking it up and handing it to Skye. "Are you staring at me?"

"Sorry." Skye accepted the bundle and forced himself to turn. He walked back into the large chamber where Garrett intercepted him and guided him to a spot out of the way. All of that was fine, but Skye thought he should be perturbed at the smirk on Garrett's face.

"You do remember you have your shields down and our bonds open? The whole wing is now distracted with hard-ons."

Skye felt the magic of Kuai's shift and tried to avoid holding his breath as they waited. The end of Kuai's golden Chinese dragon extended into the room. Several moments later, they heard a loud roar and the world shook around them loosing a fall of dust and debris. Small tongues of fire stretched into the room around Kuai's body.

Think it worked? Skye asked.

It did, but Skye there's something you need to see... Kuai sounded worried, and Skye didn't think that was a good thing.

  • Scene 7 *

Skye stepped into the room with the others. Kuai was back in human form and fully dressed. The others stood back waiting. Well, except for Kessalee, who seemed to be having some sort of breakdown and was kneeling on the floor in tears.

"What the fuck is that?" Kuai asked, pointing.

"That would be the elf heartstone, or at least I think that's what it is," Skye answered looking at the large crystal that pulsed in the center of the room. It was almost as big as he was and set into an intricately carved column. The black vines were gone; all that remained was a coating of black ash on the mosaic floor. Kuai's fire had also taken all the roots and other growth that had been in the room of doors.

"This is from your vision, right?" Garrett asked.

"Yes, but it looks different in person." Skye walked around the pulsing stone and looked at the various doors. Each one was massive and had unique carvings on the supporting columns and lintels. There was also another passageway that they hadn't seen at first coming in on the opposite side of the chamber. "It's much bigger than in my vision and I guess fancier?"

"You've found the heartstone!" Kessalee sobbed.

"It's been lost for a very long time. Some had begun to think it was just a legend. I'm sure to Kessalee this is close to being a miracle. He's probably also a bit off from the magic it's generating. You can feel it, right?" Gilian asked.

"Oh, yeah. A bit disconcerting. I think it's making my bones vibrate," River said, looking at the pulsing crystal skeptically.

"I can feel it too," Nick said in awe.

Touch me.

Guys, now is not the time, Skye sent.

Time for what? Bryan asked.

Someone just said...

Um, Skye. I don't think that was any of us, we didn't hear anything, Corbin sent.

Skye picked up the tone of concern and saw all of his wing-mate's shaking their heads. Mistral, you heard it right?

'Yes, but it didn't sound like a familiar voice.'

Ooookay. Skye looked at the others again and tried to pick up anything odd from Bram, Noud, or Raph. Though they shouldn't have been able to mind-speak without his knowing, he wasn't taking chances. Nothing.

"I think Underhill just spoke to me directly," Skye confessed.

'I think we're supposed to touch the crystal,' Mistral whispered.

Yeah, but is that really a good idea? I'm thinking no. Look at what it's done to Kessalee and all he did was look at it.

Please, you must touch to understand.

"Ah, crap, really?" Skye groaned out loud and reached out, gently placing his hand against the glowing stone. He could feel the strong magic pulsing within the stone. It reminded him of a heartbeat. Wow, that's some heavy-duty power there, Mistral. Skye was glad he couldn't pull magic from the nodes because he guessed the heartstone would have turned him to a pile of ash.

'Something's not right. Open our other sight,' Mistral coaxed.

Skye closed his eyes and pulled his magic; it vibrated oddly then seemed to adjust so it hummed in tune with the heartstone. Skye wasn't sure why but he felt the need to put both hands on the stone and run them over its surface. He circled the crystal, touching it from top to bottom, moving around where the column's supports held it in place. All of a sudden, Skye gasped and pulled back. "What the fuck?"

"Skye, what is it? What's wrong?" Garrett asked, coming up behind him.

"I... I don't know. Underhill asked me to touch the stone, but something's not right." Skye opened his eyes and looked at where he'd had his hands. His other sight was still with him, and what he saw at the base of the stone made him feel ill. He turned and bent over, taking deep breaths.

"Skye, what's wrong? Are we in danger?" River asked. "I think we all felt whatever it was you found. It was bad."

"Garrett, did it feel familiar to you?" Skye asked, ignoring River.

"Yes, but I can't say why."

"What is it, Prince Skye?" Kessalee walked up, ringing his hands and looking at the stone.

"Look closely, right there," Skye directed.

"It looks like a handprint or the shadow of one," River said.

"Look closer, right in the center of the palm."

"Shit," River huffed.

"What does it mean?" Kessalee asked.

"You can't feel it? It's a curse. That's why the magic feels off and why it has been fading. Someone cast a magical curse on the heartstone. The sprout is the black vine already growing again." Skye backed into Garrett and took comfort in the strong arms that wrapped around him.

"Um, Guys? I think we have another problem," Corbin called out.

Skye turned to look at his guard and saw the carvings around one of the doors glowing brightly. The large door swung open, revealing swirling fog in the portal-fog that looked all too familiar from Skye's vision.

"That's it. Like the curse on Zo," Garrett burst out in realization.

"Kessalee are any of your mages adept at removing curses?" Skye asked, eyeing the now open doorway.

"Like this? No. I've never seen or felt anything like it. Oh, stars. This is terrible!"

"We need Master Mage Quanta. He'd know what to do," Skye said with conviction. But I'm afraid, Mistral that our journey lies that way.

'The visions have been fairly on point so far,' Mistral observed.

"Skye, the Master Mage is human, and I'm not sure he'd be welcome in Underhill," Mica said.

"Well, Underhill? What do you think? Would you accept the help of the human Master Mage? He's bonded to a dragon?" Skye said out loud, looking around the chamber trying to ignore the sense of doom he was getting from the portal.

Help, please.

"Anyone else hear that?" Skye asked and was met with shaking heads.

"Hear what?" Kessalee asked.

"Pretty sure Underhill gave us the go ahead to bring the Master Mage. Only challenge is how do we get him here?" Skye said.

Not you. Must bring my people back.

Skye sighed, yeah, yeah, I was expecting that.

"Can it wait? It's been cursed for a long time," River asked.

"Touch it, River, then ask me again."

"No need to get snippy. So who can we send, and is it safe, or should we all return?" River asked.

"Underhill still has a mission for me. Where's Teak?"

Teak flew up and landed on Skye's shoulder. "And where have you been?" Skye asked wondering when Teak had shrunk down into his fairy form.

"I was staying out of the way, with Chaz."

"I'm going to need you to return through the portal to the palace and get word to Prince Argos. We need them to bring Master Mage Quanta to the heartstone. Could you do that?"

"But I need to go with you," Teak objected.

"Your gift is navigating and understanding Underhill. I'm pretty sure my next job is not in Underhill and maybe not even on Draga. I need you to do this for me," Skye said.

"You'll owe me," Teak whispered into Skye's ear.

"Of course," Skye responded.

"It's not safe for him to return to the gateway by himself," Mica said.

"Now that we know the path, it shouldn't take long. Maybe send Bram or Noud and Corbin?"

"What if I shifted and carried Teak. Bram and Noud should be able to keep up with me, and I'm much more effective in that form if we should meet up with the Hell Hounds," Chaz suggested.

Skye waited for Mica and glanced at his other wing-mates.

I think it's a good plan. Anyone have any objections? Mica mind-spoke and was met with silence.

"Do it, Chaz. We'll wait in the antechamber and hold your things," Mica instructed.

"Does anyone else smell food?" Nik asked.

Skye sniffed the air and had to agree. They waited for Chaz to shift, and when he and the others were off, they returned to the antechamber to wait. Skye thought it noteworthy that not one person made a comment on seeing the were-dagger. What it meant; he wasn't sure.

"Everyone, there's a new doorway and room out here," Raphael called.

The others peered into the new room with suspicion.

"Kessalee?" Gilian prompted.

"It's not unheard of, though it has been a very long time since it happened. And in my studies, it was often prepared by the lesser fae-most of whom were banished," Kessalee said as he too stared at the long table heaped with food. In a room that wasn't there not moments before.

"Eating food here is dangerous, right?" River asked.

"Not really," Gilian answered. "That's part of misunderstood legends when the fae of old would drug food fed to humans so they could carry them off to Underhill."

"It is rather convenient," Garrett commented.

"No, convenient would be a bath... room," Skye started and stuttered as a door appeared on the far wall.

"Do you want me to check it, Prince Skye?" Raphael asked.

"Sure, why not. Who wants to be the test rat for the food?" Skye said.

"I will, I'm starved," Gilian said picking up what looked like a pasty. "Oh, my, this is good."

Skye held out his hand to signal the others to wait. He approached the table and pulled his magic to check the food. Shit, Mistral, I really should have done this 'before' Gilian tried something. Skye walked the length of the table, letting the spell do its thing. "Huh, all good. No signs of poison. Unless Underhill is tricking my magic."

"Sir," Raphael called. "It appears to be a restroom."

"What do you think, Kessalee? Is it safe to eat the food? It will help extend our rations," Garrett asked.

"I would think so, yes."

The group all took advantage of what was offered, and when Skye decided he'd had enough, he cautiously opened the door to the "restroom." He couldn't hold back the groan. You know, Mistral, I think Western toilets should be the standard. That's just a fancy hole in the floor.

'At least you don't have to worry about any poison plants,' Mistral said.

Skye did his business and returned. They all took turns and chatted while waiting for Chaz and the elves to return. Surprisingly they were back sooner than expected.

"Everything go okay?" Skye asked. "You didn't mind-speak, so I figured it was good."

Bram eyed the food hungrily before turning to answer. "There was no sign of the Hell Hounds, and for some reason, the distance there seemed much shorter."

"Please, you guys eat. And there's a facility to use if needed," Skye offered.

Chaz stepped in fully outfitted again, and Skye went to him, pulling him into a hug. Thank you.

"No problem, it was good to stretch, and the shift came easier than I've ever remembered. Teak is safely back in the palace. Noud crossed with him to make sure and then returned."

"Good, get your fill before Underhill decides it's time for us to move on."

It didn't take long before they were back in the room of doors. Skye looked skeptically at the opening as the others checked out the other doors and tried to decipher the glyphs over each.

"I studied old Elvish. I should be able to read this, but it's like nothing I've ever seen," Kessalee complained.

"Skye, the hounds are back, or rather the growling and scratching is," Kuai called from the next room.

"We're being herded, I know we are," River complained.

"Weren't there cries for help in your visions?" Garrett asked.

"Let's not jinx ourselves. We don't need those," Skye said as he stared into the fog. His gut told him this is where he was supposed to go. Mistral?

'It feels right, Skye. I don't know why, but it does.'

"Whoa!" Mica yelled. "Tell me, you were NOT going to step through there on your own."

"Um, I was not going to step through there on my own?" Skye said meekly.

"Damn right. Everyone take positions. Rangers in front, then the elves. Bryan don't forget your crate."

"Yeah, yeah. Why do I have to be the beast of burden?" Bryan grumbled.

Skye walked over to Bryan and gripped his shoulders before kissing his forehead. "Cause you are our strong and virile dragon."

"Yeah, who gets a kiss on the forehead. Kuai got lips!"

"Fine." Skye grabbed Bryan and kissed him hard while pushing their bodies together. Unfortunately, that didn't do as much as usual with the body armor and utility pants.

"Hmph. Better," Bryan muttered with a blush.

Are we ready guys? I'm pretty sure this won't be pleasant if my visions were at all accurate, Skye sent.

Hurry, bring my children home.

Okay, then. Underhill wants us to hurry.

Let's do this, River said with a lot more confidence than Skye was feeling.

  • Scene 8 *

Skye watched as his mates started stepping into the fog one by one. There was still no sound and nothing to let him know they weren't all stepping through a gateway to their death. He and Garrett were up.

"I got you, babe. As long as I'm with you, I'm where I'm supposed to be," Garrett said.

"Awe," Skye cooed, feeling his heart swell.

"Fine, fine, get a move on, and quit being sappy. We have a mission," River barked from behind them.

Skye took Garrett's hand, and they stepped through together. At first, it felt as if they were floating and then they were on firm ground again. It took a moment for Skye's senses to catch up and he instinctively pushed Garrett behind him and prepared to shift.

They were pushed forward before he had a chance to do anything.

"Geez, Skye, give us some room," River complained. "Oh, fuck."

Skye righted himself and took a couple of steps forward so the others wouldn't run into them. Mica, Chaz, and Corbin were standing with their hands up. Gilian, Raphael, Bram, and Noud were kneeling on the ground at the front, their hands behind their backs. And Kessalee was curled into a little ball on the side, groaning and twitching. This place felt wrong. He didn't know why but something wasn't right.

Standing in a semi-circle in front of them were a dozen elves armed with bows-all pointed at them. It looked like they had found Taleel's extended family because all of the elves resembled their wing-mate. Skin as black as night, black hair and pointed ears. He wasn't close enough to discern eye color and wasn't really interested in getting nearer. Though these elves looked like they'd been through a war. They were gaunt and dressed in rags.

"You have many slaves," one of the strangers stated.

"I keep telling you, they aren't slaves, and we are not their masters," Gilian said.

"Why does the female speak? Is one of you not in charge?" the speaker pointed his bow at Bram, then Noud, and Raphael.

"No, you have it all wrong, we're here to help you," Gilian said.

"We were warned about the betrayers. The Court of Light who sent us into this hell and banished us to starve and die in this strange land. We have watched this gate for over a century, waiting and now we will have our revenge."

Skye's mind spun trying to figure out how to get out of this mess. While the bows weren't much of a threat to his wing, Bram, Noud, and Raphael weren't wearing armor. Not to mention Kessalee wasn't even wearing leathers. Obviously there was a lot of confusion since as far as he understood, these elves had been banished for a lot longer than one hundred years. And Skye wasn't sure why they thought the dragons were slaves. He'd never heard of such a thing. He wondered if it would be safe to check on Kessalee, the mage didn't look well but he didn't see signs of a wound or blood.

Guys, can you still hear me? The bonds feel strong but is my telepathy working?

Skye heard affirmative responses from his wing and took a deep breath. He reached out to Kessalee. Kessalee, it's Skye. If you can hear me, think of the response. You don't need to speak it out loud.

Yessss, Kessalee's mind voice sounded as much in pain as he looked.

Can you tell me what's wrong? Did they hurt you?

No. The m... mma...magic. S' gone.

Skye looked around and realized his dragons might notice but wouldn't understand. He reached out directly to Gilian. Gilian, can you tell me if the magic is gone.

I think so. I'm not a mage, but it feels wrong here, sick, dying, and it's making me nauseated.

Well, shit.

'We are the leader; we should take action,' Mistral coaxed.

"I am the leader of this group. Can we speak to whoever is in charge?" Skye said with as much confidence as he could project.

The elf who'd spoken earlier laughed. "A human? In charge of elves? You must think us fools."

"I am a dragon, not human," Skye said and heard all of them pull back on their bows. Others who had been standing by, pulled swords.

"Impossible. A dragon would never be allowed in Underhill to pass through. The Court of Light would destroy the gateway before they'd let a dragon pass."

"Well, times change, and Underhill sent us to bring you home."

"You lie!"

"Kill them before they trick us," one of the other elves said.

"No. We will let the King decide their fate when he returns."
