High School X: Chapter 1 Written by: J

Things were always pretty normal for me. I grew up in a good family of mulattos (black and white), two brothers and one crazy little sister who I adored. My father was a strong man considering his situation; he was shot in a store robbery and is now crippled from the waist down. My mom worked very long hours so that my family had everything we needed to survive. Only one person knew my darkest secrets though and that was Casey. She knew that I was a mutant and that I liked guys as much as I liked girls. Luckily for me though Casey was also a mutant and we spent many hours practicing our powers together. One thing I realized about my powers was that they were endless. I didn't understand it but anything I could think off I could do. But my powers had gotten out of control one to many times for me to explore them to the fullest.

At school things were tough for me sometimes. It was very difficult for me not to always use my powers when I had a tough time with something the teacher gave me. Casey and I had been lucky enough to get the same classes this year and we had all of the same periods together. But along with her there was someone else in all my classes that I hated with a passion. His name was Kevin, we first met each other in our Freshmen year and we bumped heads the first day. Ever since then he was always a jerk to me.

"Wassup bitch?" Kevin said as I he came into the classroom. I was so tired of his bullshit until it was ridiculous. "Fuck you. You always talking some shit." "Maybe if you slapped the shit out of him he would shut up." I knew Casey had my back. She sat right behind me and I never really had to get loud because she always shut him up. Today was a little different though, today the 3 of our lives would change. "Well maybe if you shut the hell up and stay out of my mouth..." "Hold up nigga, don't start getting all loud and steppin' out of your place!!!" I had to intervene so I slowly got up and asked Kevin to sit down before those two got into it, but as I was getting up he pushed me past me to get to her. As fast as he was moving I was faster... I grabbed him by his collar and pulled him back as hard as I could but I used to much strength and he flew all the way into that blackboard. He got up so fast I knew that there was something different about him. Before I could do anything Casey was reigning fireball after fireball down on him, but he was dodging them like nothing I had ever seen before.

That is when we finally realized that the class had gone completely quiet. Everyone looked either completely horrified or disgusted. There was nothing left to do but run, it was only a matter of time before they would be after us. We each ran to our respective lockers and got everything out of them, we knew there would be no returning. We quickly ran to my Navigator and drove as fast as we could to my house. There was nothing else to but wait, I was so scared of what my parents would think that I actually made myself sick. "This is all your fault FREAK!!!" Kevin said to me. I was so appalled that he could exclude his self from us like that. We only had each other now. Just as I was about to give him a rude remark back I heard the front door open. I could literally feel my heart fall into my stomach. I ran downstairs to meet the warm face of my mother. "Hey Jamie?!?! What are you doing home so early it's only 12." "Mom there is something I really, really need to tell you. Maybe you should sit down." "Baby what's going on? You're scaring me." "Dad is gone right? Mom what I'm about to tell you, however you take it I need you to tell Dad and the others exactly what I tell you." "Baby what the hell is going on?" I could see the pain in her face. I hadn't seen my mother's face carry so much worry since she got the call about my father. "Mom I'm a... mom I'm a mutant." I didn't have time to register what the look on her face meant because at that time there was a very feminine knock at the door. I had no idea who it could have been but I quickly went to open the door.

There standing on my doorstop was one of the most beautiful black women next to my mom I had ever seen. She had a very dignified presence and her white hair made her look like a goddess. Next to her stood a woman with hair the color of fire with a Phoenix pendant on her chest. Behind her was one of the most rugged men I had ever seen. He was very muscular, but he had a very unusual haircut which made him look like the devil.

"My name is Ororo Monroe," said the women with the white hair, as she motioned toward the women next to her she said, "this is Jean Grey and the gentlemen behind me is Logan," as she pointed to the man behind her. "Can I help you?" "No but we can help you," said Jean, "we heard what happened at your school today and we are here to offer you an opportunity to join our school where no one will discriminate against you for being different." "We don't know what you're talking about." said Kevin. I guess he was listening behind me the whole time, but I did agree with him. How could we trust these people? They could say one thing but might want to run test on us. "If you came to our school we would run test on you. But only to assess what your powers actually are and to help you better your use of them." "Maybe you should come in..." My mother was behind me with tears in her eyes. My father and the rest of my family were with him, they must have come through the back ramp while I was at the front door. I felt so beat that I just walked to the couch as three strangers followed me into our living room. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
