When the children got home from school, they were eager to do something in the back of the house that they had studied in school. They were a bit secretive about what they wanted to do, but it was obviously something the children wanted to do as a family. There was a problem, however, in that they did not have the proper tools. They confided in their grandpa and asked him not to tell their dads, that they wanted to accomplish their endeavor and make their poppas proud. Jim made a list of things that the children needed, and the next day while the kids were in school, he went to the local hardware store and bought everything the boys and Alaina asked for, and then some, including a powerful piece of machinery.

The boys had a fit when they got home from school and saw everything Grandpa Jim had purchased that day. He had even prepared a piece of ground for what the kids told him they wanted to do. When Jaiden and Peyton got home, Peyton asked, "What the heck is going on. The ground has been tilled up?" Jaiden quipped they would find out soon enough.

Alaina was leading the charge on the new project and all the children were heading outside to work on their project. Jim helped them set everything up, and the kids were ready to plant the seeds for winter greens; turnips, spinach, and collards. They learned how to cook mixed greens French style in a life skills class at school, and they had prepared some to be served to their dads at dinner.

Cubed steak, baby English peas, and mixed greens was the menu. When the Amigos tasted what their children had prepared, they were astounded at how good the food tasted. "Guys, how did you fix these mixed greens?" Dale asked. Alaina answered, "Daddy, it's two cups each of turnips, spinach, and collards. You use the frozen ones, and after you sauté some onions in olive oil, you add a pack of Goya ham and chicken seasoning. Stir everything up, add a cup of water, put a lid on the pan and steam the greens for twenty minutes." "Well, Alaina, these greens are killer." "Daddy, they're really good cold, too. The teacher had some for us to try, and everybody in the classroom loved them." "Sweetheart, I thought you didn't like greens like this." "I did, too, Daddy, but the teacher got me to try them and they were awesome."

Dale looked at the Amigos and said, "Guys, I think this move is going to turn into something awesome. If a teacher can do this in two weeks, there is no telling what the children are going to learn to like and eat at school here."

Charlie said, "speaking of that, what is going on in the backyard?" Chuck told the dads that they were also learning to grow their own food, and said what they grow, they have to learn to eat. Jaiden said, "Where is Madea Simmons when you need someone to say hallaluyer!"

The children meticulously tended to their little garden and became excited when their seeds started sprouting. In the spring, after the last frost, they were going to plant thinks like okra, tomatoes, beans, and some peas. Peyton mentioned that if the children were going to learn to eat healthier, home-grown foods, the dads were going to have to do the same, and he really didn't like fresh vegetables.

After dinner, the children grabbed a book and went outside to their new reading area and read the books until it was time to bathe and get ready for bed. The dads sat in the veranda swings, holding hands and trading sweet smooches.

"Peyton, what do you want to do tonight?" "Jaiden, I want to go to bed when the children do. I love how the rooms are cool here, how we have some weighted covers on the bed that we can snuggle under and stay toasty warm. Your skin against mine is exciting, and I so love it when you snuggle up to me and hold me." Jaiden said, "Ditto," So, when the children went to bed, the dads did too.

"Jaiden." "Yes, love." "Your torch sure is warm tonight." "Peyton, it isn't warm, it's downright hot, see." "Ooo, you're right, and it feels good. Get a little closer." "Babe, if I get any closer, I'll be inside your body." "Exactly, sweetheart. Get closer." "Jaiden did, and lightening bolts flashed across the room, mild thunder sounded, and the turtle doves cooed. The only difference in Dale's and Charlie's room was that the `thunder' was a bit more pronounced.

"Damn," Charlie said. "What's wrong, babe?" "Now I'm hungry." "Charlie, the children said those greens were just as good cold as they were hot, so give them a try." The dads did that and the children were right: the cold greens were amazing having a little different, sweeter flavor than they did when they were hot. About an hour later, a little after the two guys had fallen asleep, the greens began to do works the guys had not experienced before. "Charlie, whatever you do, please don't light a match in the bedroom." Charlie was so sleepy he hadn't paid much attention to anything, but when Dale said what he did, Charlie said, "Damn, son, if you don't stop farting like that, I'm going to shove a cork up your butt." "Charlie, I'd much rather you stuff something else up my butt, and you won't have to go to Walmart for that." That was all it took to get `Charlie into a performing, amorous mood -- for several hours.

The two lovers got out of bed and showered, and then headed back to bed. Charlie got another idea, and he and Dale went to the front veranda and sat in the swing, basking in the moonlit night. They had slipped on a pair of bathing trunks with loose legs, sans underwear. A few minutes later, Jaiden and Peyton walked onto the veranda dressed the same way. Dale closed his eyes and cooed as Charlie slid his hand up his leg and into his crotch, which caused Dale to immediately spring into action. Charlie glanced over at Jaiden and he was doing the same thing to Peyton.

When the Amigos finally made it to bed, Jaiden turned around in the bed to lie opposite to Peyton - who wondered why his husband had done that. It didn't take Peyton but a second to say, "Oh, now I understand." He got the idea and began doing to Jaiden what he was receiving. Five minutes later they were tasting a bit of sweet, human cream. Peyton said, "Damn, that would really be good with some of Dale's coffee. About that time, there was a knock on their bedroom door, and Dale entered the room and sat a cup of coffee for each of them on their nightstand, smiled, and walked out of their room closing the door.

"You know, love, so many people have told us we are going to hell for being in a same sex marriage, that us making love to each other is disgusting. Sometimes I have wondered if what people have said might jut be true, but I don't think it is. We have been too blessed to believe that crap." "Jaiden, Dale showed me something from his days in the Christian church that I really like; it's in Matthew, Chapter 12, verses 31 and 32, and it says all things shall be forgiven except for the denial of the Holy Spirit." "Interesting! I think I will hold on to that."

The guys were sitting on the veranda swings after getting home from work, when Jaiden posed a question to Dale and Charlie, "Guys, when you converted to Judaism, did you give up your belief in Jesus?" "Dale replied, "Certainly not! We converted to Judaism because it was the logical thing to do. Jesus said on more than one occasion that He was the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes unto the father except by Him. I think Jesus meant that we need to act like Him, talk like Him, and forgive like Him. And contrary to popular Christian opinion, Jesus wasn't a Christian, he was, is, and always will be Jewish. The only way to really know him is to be like Him, Jewish; to do what He did, perform mitzvahs; and most importantly, to embrace people like He did, with pure, unadulterated, honest love, one for another?"

"Ya know, Dale, that really makes sense. What made you question that?" "Jaiden It was something that came up in a conversation we had at Wellstone after someone made some statements about us being gay. You got really pissed and said something back to them, and I got to thinking. People were claiming things that the bible simply didn't support. God created man and woman, and in His description of his creation, He didn't add any qualifiers to what he said. I have always tried to love everybody because that is what God instructed us to do. I got to thinking about that instruction where God said to love your neighbor as yourself and hold nothing against your neighbor's child. Nowhere did he say to love your neighbor if that neighbor was straight or gay, black or white. The way you and Peyton and your families treated me and Charlie was more Christian than the ways the so-called Christians treated us, and that drew Charlie and me, and eventually our families, into Judaism."

"Hey, guys, come watch this!" Those kids are working their butts off in their little garden." "Look at what Abraham's doing. He is making the planting rows as straight as an arrow. Ben is measuring distance and putting the seeds in the ground. Benjamin Dale is pulling some of the dirt onto the seeds, and Jason Alexander is re-forming the tops of the soil rows, and David Alexander is lightly watering the dirt over the seeds." Jaiden said he couldn't wait to see the garden growing. He was amazed at the work the children had done and were still doing. Here's the question: are the children going to eat everything they grow?" That remains to be seen.

"Daddy." "Yes, Sir, Jason Scott." "Daddy, I have something on my thing that's really sore. Can you check it for me and see if you can stop it from hurting?" "Yes, Sir, I can, but what is the correct name for your `thing'?" My penis, Daddy?" "That is correct. Grandma knows more about treating certain problems than Daddy Peyton or I, so I'll let her check your problem. If I can fix it, she'll tell me, OK?" "OK, Daddy."

"Mom, Jason Scott has a sore spot on his penis. Would you mind checking it for me?" "Sure, Jaiden. Where do you want me to look at the problem. The master bath has a large, flat counter that's about the height of an exam table, so let's do it in there."

"Jason Scott, let's go to the big bathroom so Grandma can look at your sore and see what we need to do to stop it from hurting."

Jaiden and his son went to the bathroom and Peggy walked in and told her grandson to drop his pants and underwear so she could check his problem. When she saw the sore, she told Jaiden to get her a sterile scalpel and some betadine to sterilize the spot. Jaiden got what his mother asked for, and she sterilized the spot, slightly stuck the pimple-like spot with the scalpel, and squeezed it. Imagine Jaiden's surprise when a pubic hair shot out of the spot.

"Mom, please tell me that isn't what I think it is." "Nope, son, no can do! The boys appear to be racing into puberty, and your life is about to become infinitely more interesting -- and harder to manage." Peggy giggled after saying that. "Jaiden, you probably don't remember, but you were the same age when you hit puberty. You are going to need to get some asper-cream with lidocaine in it, because as the erections start getting more frequent and engorged, the boys are going to be in pain and need some help with it." "I'll get the cream, mom, but I'm not putting it on them." "You don't have to, Jaiden. Just give each boy a tube of the ointment and they will figure out what to do with it -- and then some! About that, son, I have no doubt based on experience with my own son. Jaiden was once again showing his love for the Crimson Tide with the color of his face.

Since Jason was already having this problem, Jaiden decided to ask all the boys if they had any sore spots on their penises. Almost all of the boys said they were, so they all got checked, and the infected spots were opened and the hairs were pulled loose.

"Jaiden, the boys are just turning 10 in June. Is it time for this to happen?" "Sadly, Charlie, it is, and our lives are about to take on new challenges. So as Bishop Jay says, "Get ready, Get ready, Get ready."

Jaiden and Peyton took a walk up to the overlook. Sitting on the bench at the car park, Peyton looked at Jaiden and asked, "Is it true? Are the boys in full-blown puberty?" "Yep! Mom checked Jason Scott and told me what she needed to treat the problem. I got the betadine solution and a scalpel and then she made me take care of the problem. That was something I didn't enjoy, holding our son's penis in my hands and being embarrassed that his was longer than mine." "You are kidding about that -- aren't you, Jaiden?" "I wish Peyton. Jason Scott is almost as long as you and me put together. He doesn't have the girth yet, but he certainly has the length." "Damn, love, I had no idea. Now I wish I really had no idea."

"So far, Peyton, none of Dale's and Charlie's boys have mentioned any problem with in-grown pubic hairs, but I have a sneaking suspicion they soon will. It's just a matter of time. They caught a glimpse of a child darting into an old, abandoned building. They scoured the building with their eyes and noticed a tuft of smoke pouring from a small chimney. Against better judgement, Jaiden decided to walk over to that building and check out what he could find inside. The little boy tried to hide, but his efforts were in vain. He wanted to hide; he was scared, and he didn't know what to do. Not just scared, the little boy was starving, and as seconds ticked by, Peyton was becoming evermore furious, and so was Jaiden. They were fairly new in town, and nobody really knew of their past generosities, but one thing they would soon find out was that Jaiden and Peyton would not stand by and let a small child be beaten, starved, and made to live on the streets against all odds.

Jaiden called and spoke with Don about the boy, and when their conversation was ending, Don told Jaiden he knew a judge in the area and several lawyers, who, like Jaiden, Peyton, Dale, and Charlie, had lived for a number of years in Erie before also burning out and leaving the area. A few minutes after ending his call with Don, several police officers and a Family Services Agent showed up at Jaiden's office. They asked Jaiden and Peyton if they would mind examining the little boy and reporting to them what they discovered during their exam. "Of course we don't mind. Come into the exam room and you can be present to see first-hand what we find."

They went into the exam room and had the boy remove his clothing. The first thing they noticed was that the boy was covered in bruises. He had knots under his skin that Peggy came in to examine. Ex-rays were made and obvious broken bones were seen. He had contusions on his head, scars inside his mouth that appeared to have been caused by someone trying to smother him. The macula of the boy's eyes showed petechial hemorrhages that were unmistakable. When their exam was over, and they talked to the boy, they learned that his father regularly made his brothers mercilessly beat and kick him, and when they would tire of hurting him, his dad would take over the beatings. His mother, she was an alcoholic whose only intent and desire was to ensure she had a fresh bottle of booze in her hands every morning. Something had to be done to help the boy, and Peyton and Jaiden vowed to be a part of the solution to the boys improved care and health.

The police, along with Jaiden and Peyton went to the boy's home and questioned his brothers who admitted to what the boy had told them. The brothers told the police that their dad was at work in maintenance at the University, Wellstone University. Peyton made a few phone calls and then headed, with the police, to the university. They found the boys dad and began to question him.

They learned that the little boy's name was Marcus, Marcus Jr. to be exact. Marcus Sr. was none too pleased to be questioned by the police and the Department of Family and Children's Services social worker. He told them to kiss his ass and to leave him alone. He threatened Peyton with assault and did the same to Jaiden.

When he threatened Peyton, that was his last mistake of the day. Peyton looked at the man and said, "Let me tell you something, you cowardly, no-good piece of shit, it you want to try to whip my butt, bring it on. When you do, I am going to send you to the hospital with as many broken bones as you gave to your son. So, if you think you can whip me, bring it on you little pussy! Bring it on!

Peyton was more furious than Jaiden had ever seen him, so much so that Jaiden called Jim to tell him what was going on. Five minutes later, Jim drove up with a screeching halt. The man was concerned that when Jim started getting out of his car, he kept on getting out and out and out, and when he started standing up the man's eyes almost bulged out of his head.

Jim said, "I understand you want to try and whip my son's ass. I want to see you do that! I understand he has already told you he will send you to the hospital with the same broken bones your son has had. Well guess what: whatever bones of yours that my son doesn't break, I will. You are going to regret having ever laid a hand on your son and regret even more making his brothers assault him. Now, you little pansy assed pimple on the body of life, try to hit my son! I dare you, bitch!" Jim finally got the chance to do what he had always wanted to do: beat the ever-loving hell out of a child abuser.

Jim was furious and he wanted nothing more than to get his hands on that boy's dad. However, as dared, the man swung at Peyton, and when he did, Peyton fulfilled his promise to break every bone in that man's body that he had broken in his son's. When Peyton had finished the job with the police looking on, Jim said now I am going to protect my son the way you should have protected your son but were too cowardly to do that.

When Jim finished with the man, both of his legs were broken in addition to his arms, his elbows, and his ribs. The ambulance took the man to the hospital, and when the emergency room physician learned what the man and his older sons had done to his younger son, they pronounced the man capable of letting his broken bones heal as they were -- with no medical intervention.

Jim's family was so proud that the man they loved, the man who loved and helped numerous abuse children unreservedly, he finally got the chance to legally defend a child, and he did a marvelous job doing so.

That evening, news crews descended on Jaiden's and Peyton's home to interview them and Peggy about the boy. Neither of the three wanted to speak about the boy due to privacy concerns, and they didn't. Jim on the other hand wasn't a medical provider and he could talk about Marcus' dad all he wanted to, and he did. When Jim got through with what he had to say about Mr. Jennings, everybody in town knew about him, and the college fired hm and simply said he no longer worked at Wellstone University. And inmates at the jail let it be known that they were "preparing" Jennings a very nice reception for the day he entered the county jail to `bunk' with them. They were having a hard time waiting to welcome their new friend into their midst.

The emergency physician noticed Jim's last name: Riley. "Sir, do you have a son names Leon Riley-Andrews who lives in Erie with his husband, Peter Andrews?" "I do, and I am proud to say Leon is my son and Peter is my son-in-law. Drs. Jaiden and Peyton here are my son-in-law and my son." "Sir, I have heard a tremendous amount of good about you and your family; welcome to Brevard, we are proud to have you living among us, and I would be more than proud to call you my friend, if I may have that honor." "Sir, I would also be honored to call you my friend, as would my son, Dr. Peyton Riley-Reynolds, and my son-in-law Dr. Jaiden Riley-Reynolds."

Marcus' dad was arrested as soon as he was dismissed from the hospital. All told, when he went to trial and was convicted by a jury of the injuries he caused to his son, The sentencing judge was meaner than Don probably ever thought of being. He gave that sorry piece of crap of a man a total of 75 consecutive years for assaulting and having his older sons assault the younger boy. Jennings tried to press charges against Jim, Jaiden, and Peyton for the ass-whipping they gave him. The judge immediately dismissed the man's complaint, reminding him he started the fight through which he got his butt properly flailed.

The DFCS worker called and spoke with Don in his chambers, and he wholeheartedly recommended Leon and Peter to become the little boy's new parents. DFCS already knew Peter from his work in the local hospital and they knew Leon from the press he received while earning his Psych degree at Wellstone in record time. Three hours later, Leon and Peter flew into the local airport on a private jet, and went to the hospital to be with their new son as he healed from his wounds. There are now thirteen grandchildren shared between Jim and Phyllis, and they could not be more proud of that fact.

The day after their arrival, Leon and Peter went to court to formalize their adoption of Marcus, something done in record time and never known to have ever happened so fast in the history of Brevard. Leon stayed in town while Peter returned to the medical practice. Phyllis and Jim had tears in their eyes many times as they saw Leon blossom into a loving, new dad. The Judge in Memphis and the Police Chief there called Leon to congratulate him on becoming a new dad and to tell him how very proud they were of him.

What happened for Marcus was the talk of the town for months. Jaiden's, Peyton's, and Peggy's practice grew leaps and bounds. Everybody wanted the three to be the pediatricians for their children, and not one person ever complained when they had to sit and wait to see the doctors they had come to respect and love. Brevard keeps on keeping on giving honor to the new resident doctors, their children, and the rest of the family who relocated to Brevard with them.

Marcus, he wouldn't get out of Leon's sight. He loved his new dad's and he couldn't wait to move to his new home. Leon, he was a little on the strict side with Marcus, but he would let up on that as the boy continued to heal and progress with his life. And the Riley-Reynolds and Anderson-Leonard children, they went out of their way to make sure their new cousin felt accepted and loved. Alaina let it be known that if any other children were caught being mean to her new cousin, they would have to deal with her, and that was something she made sure children Marcus' age knew they did not want to risk.
