Now just to remind you this story is completely fantasy and it is not meant to be taken for reality. I do not know what the boys are currently doing or where they are so this story will not be based on what they are actually doing in the present.

Since I have depicted both Kevin and Brian as gay, I do hope you know that this is a fantasy, and in no way true. Kevin has married his fiance and Brian is married to LeighAnn Wallace. So I just want to wish them all the happiness in the world...they deserve it.

Special thanks to my big bro, Exodus. He's been there for me a lot and I can't imagine my life without him. He's always been there for me to talk to when I'm down and always made me feel better.

Kevin & Dustin Chapter 49 (Part 1)

By: NM

Time passes in moments. Moments which rushing past, define the course of a life...just as surely as they lead towards it end. How rarely do we stop to examine that path? To see the reasons why all things happen? To wonder if the path we take in life is of our own making, or simply one into which we drift with eyes closed. But what if we could stop? Pause, to take stock of each precious moment before it passes? Might we then see the endless forks in the road that have shaped our life, and seeing those choices...choose another path?

The ambulance came to a screeching stop outside the emergency entrance to the hospital. The EMTs jumped out of the ambulance and opened the doors and pulled the gurney out of it. They lowered the wheels and rushed the gurney into the ER where a doctor and nurses were waiting.

"What happened?" the Doctor asked as they wheeled the gurney to the trauma room.

"Dustin Richards. 18-year-old male. He fell down a flight of stairs. Broken left leg and right arm, possible concussion. He was unconscious when we got there," the EMT reported. They wheeled the gurney into the room. "We'll take it from here," The doctor said. He turned his attention to his staff. "Ok, lift on my count. 1,2,3." The doctor and nurses lifted the patient off of the gurney and onto the examination bed while another nurse moved the gurney out of the way.

A group of 5 fairly young men came into the ER. The one in a cowboy hat went up to the desk. "My friend, Dustin Richards, he was brought in here a few minutes ago. Do you know how he is?" Alex asked the nurse.

"He the guy who fell down the stairs?" the nurse asked as she pulled out some charts and handed them to other nurses.

"Yeah, that would be him," Alex replied.

"He's in Exam 1," the nurse replied.

"Do you know how he is?" Alex asked with desperation pouring out from his voice.

"I'm sorry, I don't. Dr. Benton is examining him right now. If you'll take a seat I'll be sure he speaks with you about your friend," the nurse told him.

Alex sighed, but nodded his head. "Thank you ma'am," Alex said.

The nurse nodded and began helping the person who was standing behind Alex while he walked back over to the group.

"Alex, where is he?" Kevin asked frantically.

"Is he all right?" Brian asked with deep concern laced in his voice.

"What's it to you?" Kevin asked his cousin.

Brian ignored his angered cousin and looked back to Alex for a response.

"All the nurse told me is that he is in a room and the doctor is working on him," Alex informed the other guys.

"Someone should probably go call Dustin's mom," Howie spoke up. No one moved our made an offer to make the call. "All right...I'll make it," Howie said getting up and walking down over to the pay phone.

While Howie went to make the call, a doctor, in his mid 30s approached the group.

"I'm Doctor Benjamin Benton," he said introducing himself to the group of four young men, "Are you the friends of Dustin Richards?" The doctor asked.

"Yes, we are," Nick replied for the group.

"How is he Doctor Benton?" Alex questioned.

Doctor Benton took a seat next to Brian. "Are you here about Dustin?" Howie asked as he came back up to the group.

"Sit down D. Doctor Benton was just about to tell us how Dustin is doing," Kevin ordered.

"Well, we've stabilized Dustin. He has a fracture in his left leg and right arm, but nothing too serious though. He'll just have to wear casts for about 6-8 weeks," Doctor Benton reported.

All of the guys let out a huge sigh of relief except for Brian. He looked up at Doctor Benton and noticed a slight hesitation. "What else is wrong Doctor?" Brian questioned causing the rest of the guys to look up suddenly.

"There was head trauma from the fall," Doctor Benton began.

"But he's going to be all right, isn't he?" Kevin asked in a panic.

"The EMTs informed me that he was unconscious when they arrived, correct?" Doctor Benton asked.

"Yes, he was," Alex spoke softly answering the question.

"He's not all right, is he," Brian stated.

"Dustin is in a coma," Doctor Benton stated.

"Oh my God," Kevin whimpered.

Brian slowly moved his hand to his face to wipe away a tear that had fallen. "When will he wake up?"

"Honestly," the doctor began, "We don't know. Head trauma cases are difficult. It could be any time," Doctor Benton explained.

"You can't even guess as to when he will be out of this," Brian asked while trying to fight back more tears.

"I'm sorry, no. We'll just have to wait," Dr. Benton said.

"Dr. Benton, we have a GSW arriving right now," a rushed nurse said while heading for the ER entrance. Dr. Benton stood quickly. "If there is anyone we need to contact about Dustin, tell Susan up at the desk," he said before running off to catch up with the nurse.

"Howie, what did Dustin's mom say?" Alex asked his silent friend.

"She's on her way with Dustin's dad. They don't know when they can get a flight though," Howie explained.

"Let's just hope they get here soon," Nick spoke to everyone.

"I'm going to go and see if I can check on Dustin," Brian spoke bravely while standing up.

Suddenly a strong hand jerked him back into his seat. Kevin grabbed his shirt and yanked him close to his face. "You aren't going anywhere near him, understand me?" Kevin spoke with rage showing in his eyes.
