MLSAHS – Chapter 28 – Taking a Step Up – Start of Something Good Cairo's POV
I rushed out off out of the room and upstairs. Abel was having a panic attack and I had no idea what to do. The best chance I had was to go get his parents and they might know what to do. I knocked on the door as fast and loud as I could.
The door opened to Abel's father rubbing his eyes. "Yes?"
"Abel is having a panic attack!" That woke him up instantly. "I don't know what to do." Like a flash of light Mrs. Yeager rushed down the hall. I had to take a double take before following her.
She was already in the middle of talking to him and getting him to relax. I stood there, my foot uncontrollably tapping. Mr. Yeager put his hand on my shoulder and squeezed tightly. "You did the right thing Cairo."
"I know, I'm just scared for him." I looked up to see a smile on his face. In only a couple of minutes Abel had calmed down and was passed out. "He's alright now?"
Mrs. Yeager nodded. "Yes, he's just sleeping now." That's a relief. "What was happening before this started?"
My eyes went from eye contact to the floor faster then a shooting star goes across the sky. Telling them would only make things worse for us to spend time together. It's the very reason Abel had the panic attack he did...
"We were... making out a bit." My eyes stayed on the floor. "I think he freaked out about the idea of getting caught. I'm sorry we broke your trust, it was my idea not his."
She didn't say anything just left the room. She grabbed Mr. Yeager's shoulder before making her way back up stairs. "Could we talk Cairo?" Mr. Yeager spoke softly to me.
"Yeah, of course." I followed him out of the living room and into the kitchen. "Again, I'm sorry about this."
He said nothing to me. Just grabbed himself a bear from the fridge and leaned against the counter. "It's fine Cairo, it really is. You two aren't in trouble for kissing, but we're not going to over look it."
"I understand." I was as stiff as a board expecting to be told I wasn't allowed back over after tonight.
Mr. Yeager let out a sigh. "He takes after his mother and older brother perfectly." Wait, I'm not being told how what I did was wrong? "When his mother gets to nervous about something, she tends to go into panic attacks, so does Jude. This is the first time Abel has done it and you did the right thing tonight. Thank you, Cairo."
"I didn't know what to do. All I did was do what was right."
"Which was the perfect things to do." He drank the last bit of alcohol before him. "We should get back to sleep. You're still welcome to sleep on the couch with Abel. Get a good sleep." He set the can on the counter and went back up to bed.
I went back to the pullout couch and laid down next to Abel. He lay sound asleep almost purring in his sleep. We lay face to face, his messy hair covering part of his face. I turned around and snuggled into him, before long falling asleep.
When I woke up Abel's arm was around me and I could feel his body from chest to toes. Even his morning wood that was in his PJs and I giggled a bit. "What's with the giggle?" Abel asked.
I wiggled my butt. "That." I whispered. Abel giggled too. "You're feeling better?"
"Yeah, I don't remember much though." He pulled himself closer to me. "It was really scary when you ran away. I thought you were leaving and not coming back. Then mom came and you were right behind her and I think that is what made me calm down the most."
"Sorry I left, I didn't know what to do." I put my hand onto his. "Shouldn't we not be snuggling like this? Wont your parents get mad?"
He shook his head. "Mom came down and told me snuggling was fine before you woke up. Anything more and we're in trouble."
I turned around a bit to look at him. "Would you want to be called my boyfriend?"
A smile grew across his face, and that's when I saw Jude and Mr. Yeager sitting in the kitchen. They heard every word. Abel gathered my attention though with his cute smile. "I would like that, if I could call you the same."
"It's a deal!" Abel is my first boyfriend... and I couldn't be happier.
Aidyn's POV
"When do you want to start packing?" Noah sat on the couch in the common area.
I laugh. "You're spending the weekend here, silly. We can start packing tomorrow." I give him a kiss on the forehead. "Nathan will be back here soon, and you'll get to meet him."
"This famed Nathan Reynolds. Carter's cousin." Noah has such a large network of people he knows. "I look forward to seeing him in person, and all your other friends."
"They will tell you all about how much I talk about you." Noah's smile said it all, he was so happy to be here in my dorm room with me. "So, how's things at that old high school of mine."
Noah thought about it for a moment. "The usual, Phoenix has great ideas for the prom, which you are going to this time. The juicy bit of it all is Max Harper..."
I sunk against the kitchen counter. "I hate prom..."
"We made a promise that we would respect each other's proms." Noah said very clearly to me. It's true, I didn't want to go to prom and he really did. So, the compromise was going to a single prom, not both. "But onto the juicy part please!"
"What about Max is `juicy' as you say?"
"He asked for a specific song to be on the playlist for prom!" Noah bounced in his seat. "The song was Unsteady by X Ambassadors."
"That's an interesting pick." I gave him a knowing look. "And who is that for?"
Noah turned around and placed his elbows on the couch, and chin on the back of his hands. "The only this I heard was that Nix wasn't allowed to know about it."
"Phoenix isn't allowed to know? Isn't he the one who confirms the playlist for prom?" Noah nods. "Well then, that's interesting."
It was then that the main door opened to my little dorm room. Nathan came walking inside the room. "Oh hey, you're back." He smiled at me before spotting Noah. "Hello Noah, nice to finally meet you."
"You as well, Nathan."
The three of us hung around for a bit. Noah and Nathan talked a whole lot making fun of me along the way. I brushed it off shooting insults back at the two of them. It was all in good fun.
After a while we decided to meet some of the others down at the cafeteria. Brailyn when he saw Noah got kind of excited, more then I was expecting. Bryce gave Noah a smile and nod, while Josh ran up and in true Josh fashion threw words at him.
Iris shook her head. "Yes, he's cute. Leave him alone one Josh. I'm Iris." She extended her hand to him. "It's nice to meet you Noah."
"Same to all of you. Except Brailyn, he's a butt." He stuck out his tongue while shaking Iris' hand. Brailyn rolled his eyes. "It's good to see you." Noah's smile was contagious to the group.
We spent much to long there, we actually had to get kicked out and sent on our way. We just talked and talked about everything. The mention of finals happened several times and we all laughed it off. `one-night won't make a difference' was the catch phrase of the night.
Walking around for a bit we settled in one of the campus fields. Noah snuggled into me on the chilly night while everyone else sat separately. Joah and Nathan told us about how they decided to end things, they liked being friends more. Though Iris and Nathan seemed to be flirting more then ever before.
Suddenly though Josh turned and looked directly at Noah. "So, what made Aidyn your guy?" The whole group went silent and looked at us.
Noah smiled and pushed himself closer to me. "He gives the best snuggles!" The group laughed but Josh kept his eyes on Noah. "I mean, I was 14 at the time. He was cute and a friend of my cousin's I would see occasionally."
"And?" Iris pressed on. "Tell us the story on how you two became an item. Aidyn has never told us."
Noah looked up at me. "You okay with me telling it?" I shrug. I didn't care, just didn't want to say it myself. "Then I'm going to tell it, stop me if you want me too.
"He came in and hung out with me at one of my cousin's parties. It turned into a night together. We both we're out but we hung out and got to know each other. When I found out the `end of the world' that was 2012 was going to happen, I wanted to be out before our potential demise."
Nathan gave out large belly laugh. "You believed that?"
"It wasn't that I believed it, it was a `what if this is true and I die not being my true self?' kind of idea." The group nodded. "It made me quite frustrated when Aidyn didn't see that."
I smiled. "Yea but I shouted at the top of my lungs my feelings for you. Right down the middle of the hallway if I remember correctly." Noah rolled his eyes at my sass before kissing me. "And the rest is history?"
"No, you now like doing birthdays because of me." I could feel his pride over this fact.
Brailyn smiled. "That's right, I actually had no idea when your birthday was... and I had known you for years. Did you seriously not have any birthdays before Noah's place?"
I shrugged. "I had some in elementary but once I reached like grade 6, most other kids had other stuff happening around my birthday. By high school I had shrugged it off and kept it as a day to spend time with family.
"Noah made the day special to me again." I hugged him tight. "And he's amazing for it."
Iris squealed. "You're such a cute couple!"
It wasn't long before campus security came by and sent us off. We all went our separate ways and went back to our rooms. Noah and I went straight to bed. Getting snuggles from him was the absolute best way to end this day. Almost able to get these snuggles every night again.
Carter's POV
"That was a great dinner, thank you." I told Cupid's mother.
She smiled. "Tell that to my brat. He thought I should have made something else."
Cupid blushed. "I just thought you shouldn't make my favorite but what you make best." I giggled before getting up and grabbing plates. "You don't have to do the dishes, you're a guest."
"He's right Carter. I don't mind, thank you though."
"Okay... can we go watch something then?" I turned and asked Cupid.
He smiled. "Sure, lets go to the living room." We made our way there and I sat down on the couch. Cupid started to look through boxes upon boxes of DVDs. "What of these?"
He showed me five movies: Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: Winter Solder, The Fault in our Stars, The Lego Movie, and Pitch Perfect. I didn't expect him to be a fan of marvel movies. "I haven't seen Lego Movie yet."
"Lego it is!" Cupid put the DVD into the player and came over and sat by me. We sat in silence as the movie played. Before long Cupid's mother checked in on us before heading off somewhere else.
After that Cupid got closer and placed his hand on mine. We basically snuggled for the rest of the movie. I was okay with it but felt kind of uncomfortable. At least he was snuggling me and not wanting the other way around. Snuggling is not my strong suit.
Just after the movie reached its climax Cupid looked up at me. "Carter..."
I looked over at him. "Yes?"
A huge smile was on his face as he nestled into my shoulder. Cupid just examined me for a moment, staring at my face. "Would you like to be boyfriends?"
My thoughts went off into a craze. why would he want me?' I'm not worthy of this' this is a joke' he'll never love me' `I'm a monster' and so on would repeat itself over and over. My gaze became unfocused as I zoned out and focused on my thoughts.
"Carter!" Cupid shook me out of my thoughts. "You're enough, I like YOU for who you are. Don't belittle yourself for like this. For all your flaws and all your positives, I like YOU carter!"
I stared blankly at him. "Why?"
"You're the first to admit when you've done something wrong. You're actively looking to better yourself and to make up for your past mistakes. We may have only known each other for a short time but I want to spend as much time with you as I can."
Lowering my head, I tried to hide my stray tear. "Sure... I'll be your boyfriend."
Cupid pulled me into a hug, I simply placed my hand on his. "You don't feel pressured into it, do you?"
I shook my head. "No, I would like it if you were my boyfriend."
"Okay." Cupid held me for a bit as we watched the credits roll down the screen. We watched the title screen just enjoying each other's company. Cupid interrupted the silence, "We should get you home, its almost 9 and it's a school night."
"Yea, probably should." It was a half hour walk to my place, and Cupid had to be inside by 10. His mom also doesn't do driving at night, something about her vision. We walked, holding each other's hands. We talked about not wanting school tomorrow and just general chit chat.
We stopped just outside of my place. "Tonight was fun." Cupid grinned. "I'm very happy about you agreeing to be boyfriends."
"Me too..." I went to walk inside. "I'll see you tomorrow at school?"
I turned around when I didn't hear anything. Cupid's grin just grew when I looked at him. "Of course. See you tomorrow."
We gave each other little waves before I closed the door to the house. Making my way to my room I heard Trev giggle from the kitchen. "Boyfriends, eh?"
"You're the worst!" I shouted at him before slamming my door. Even that didn't wipe the smile from my face though. I sunk to the floor, sliding down the door, and looked up to the ceiling. "I can't believe it... I have a boyfriend."
Abel's POV
"Abel, it's for you!" There was a knock at the door only moments ago. I was texting Kyler and Cairo, so I had no idea who it could have been. "Abel!" Mom called out again.
"Yes, one moment!" I grabbed a hoodie that was laying on my bed and put it on before rushing downstairs. I turned the corner and stopped right in the middle of the hallway. "Jason?"
Jason, like annoying Jason, was standing in my doorway. He was wearing the normal school uniform, shyly looking at the floor. He looked up briefly when I said his name. "Hey Abel..."
Mom I guess could sense the atmosphere between us and started heading towards the backyard. "I'll be out gardening, if you two need anything come get me."
"Okay mom." I watched her as she passed by. Before completely heading outside she turned back around. He used her eyes to tell me to go talk to him. When I turned back, he still hadn't moved. "You want to come inside Jason?"
He shook his head. "No, I just wanted to come and apologize to you."
"You don't have anything to apologize for though..."
"No, I do." Jason's voice started to shake. It also appeared that his hand was shaking, and he was trying to stop it. "My parents, when they talked to the principle threw you under the bus. Even though I told them I instigated the kiss they told him it was you. They didn't care that I had kissed a guy, but they wanted me to stay in that school."
"My parents didn't even talk to the principle, just let him know I wouldn't be back." I giggled at the memory of the conversation. "It wasn't you who lied, why are you apologizing?"
"I felt bad... Like I caused you to be expelled from school." Jason seemed to defeated and sad compared to before the incident. "I wanted to come apologize to many times, but I would always chicken out and just go home."
No words left my mouth, I just walked up to him and gave him a hug. He just started crying into my shoulder. We stood there for a while, I rubbed his back and waited for his emotions to calm down. "Would you like to come in and hang out?"
He shook his head. "I need to go home. I'll probably be in trouble for being late. Thanks for... for listening and letting me vent a bit."
Jason turned and started to walk off. I could see he was feeling a little better but still wasn't feeling full Jason. "Hey Jason!" I called out to him once he hit the street. "We should hang out sometime!"
The smile that spread across his face, that was the Jason I knew. "Okay! I still have your number, so I'll give you a call and we'll figure something out!" He bolted off heading up the street with that pep in his step. I think I just made his day or month... Maybe not being around him so much will make him more tolerable? Oh well.
