A recap from the last chapter!!!!!!!!

At the end of chapter 45, Jason, Liam and Keith had arrived home form school to find that the surprise visitors that they had for the weekend were Elton John, his partner, David Furnesh and Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olssen, two of the guys from Eltons' backing group. The reason for the visit was dye to the fact that Phil and Jane had organized a late sixtieth birthday party for Elton. The guys from the band had been invited to the concert and party in New York that Elton had organised but they were unable to go due to concert and recording commitments, as well as school.

The family and their guests had a leisurely dinner and it was at around ten thirty when Jason announced that he was going to bed. He had had a long day and was tired. Gary didn't take long to decide that he was going to join his lover in going to bed. The two of them shared a few passionate kisses before drifting off to sleep.

SAD SONG OF A GAY TEEN 46!!!!!!!!

It was at around three thirty in the morning that I heard a knock on the door. At first I just thought that I was dreaming but then I became more awake, more conscious and I realised that someone was actually knocking on the door. I reached for the bathrobe that I kept by the side of the bed and, without disturbing Gary, got out of bed and put on my robe and then went to answer the door. When I opened the door, Brett was standing there and he looked very distraught.

“Hey, what's wrong?” I asked.

“It's Gavin, he had another nightmare and he won't stop crying. I don't know what to do,” Brett said.

Brett and I made our way to the room that he was sharing with Gavin. At least we wouldn't be disturbing any of our other guests, as they were all staying in the new house that had been converted from the stable block. Once I entered the room. I made my way over to Gavins' bed and put my arms around him and said, “Hey, what's wrong with you?”

His crying had subsided somewhat and he proceeded to tell me about the nightmare that he had been having. In this particular nightmare, he (Gavin), had actually been at the bank with his parents when the police arrived. All hell broke loose and his father had actually been killed by one of the police bullets.

By now, Gavin had calmed down considerably. I looked at Brett and asked, “How dose he know that that really happened?”

“The police told us. We have an attorney in Boston that is putting together a multi-million dollar law suit against the police department and we inherit everything that our parents owned,” Brett told me.

“But I just want my mom and dad back,” Gavin murmured.

I knew just how he felt as I still had those feelings from time to time but I had to be cruel to be kind, so to speak, when I said, “Gavin, I really do hate having to tell you this but that is not going to happen anytime soon. I know that that sounds really harsh but it's the truth. I still have days when I wish I could have my mum and dad back but it doesn't last long and I just think that they would be so happy for me if they knew about all the really good things that have happened in my life in the last two years. I'm sure your mum and dad wouldn't want you to be like this, would they? Wouldn't they just want you to get on with your life?”

“Yeah, I guess that you're right and sorry that I had to wake you up,” Gavin said.

“No worries, I had nightmares too but I think that I'm over them now,” I said.

I looked around and mum was standing in the doorway. “Is everything OK?” She asked.

“Gavin had a nightmare,” Brett said, “I usually go and wake Tron but I've had to do that so many times since we got here that I decided to wake Jason, I thought that he would understand better.”

“Would you guys like me to make you some hot chocolate?” Mum asked. “It always made Jason feel better when he was having his nightmares.”

“I think that would be nice Mrs.Russell,” Gavin said. “But I need to use the bathroom first.”

“Please, call me Jane as we don't really go in for too much formality around here,” mum said.

With that, mum went off to the kitchen to make the drinks. Brett and I waited for Gavin and then headed to the kitchen. We hadn't been there for long when Gary walked in rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “What's going on?” He asked.

“Gavin had a nightmare,” I told him.

Gary went gave Gavin a hug, and asked, “So are you OK?”

“Yeah, Jason gave me some really good advice in saying that mom and dad would just want me to get on with my life but I kinda miss my friends in Boston,” Gavin said.

“Maybe you should ask your aunt and uncle about inviting some of them in the summer. I don't think that it would do any harm to ask,” I suggested.

“I'll do that on Monday when we get home, I mean back to their house. I know I should start to think of it as home but it's hard for me to think of their house like that,” he said.

That was another thing that I could understand as it had taken me a little while to adjust to my new home when I came out of the hospital after my ordeal. Having said that, I sort of felt confident, that, given the time necessary, Gavin would adjust to his new life. He was only young and I knew from my own experiences that in time you just came to terms with what had happened. You could never really forget about it but you did learn to live with it. It was almost an hour later when we all went back to bed but I didn't get to sleep for very long as my phone was going. I reached out and fumbled around reaching for my mobile phone on the bedside table. I also cursed who ever it was that was calling at this unearthly hour.

I pressed the answer and said, “Hello?” In a somewhat angry tone.

“You know, I could get you locked up in a dark dungeon for speaking to Royalty like that,” said the voice on the other end of the line.

“Hi, Cullen,” I said. “And to what do I owe this pleasure?”

“Have they brought in some new law that makes it illegal to call an old school mate?” Cullen asked.

“If they did, I wasn't told about it,” I said, giggling slightly.

“So how come you are so grumpy?” Cullen asked.

I told him about the new friends that I had made and that they were staying with us for the weekend. I also told him what had happened as regards to their parents. Cullen was a little shocked in hearing that and said that if they wanted any help with anything then they should call Chris as he had a lot of powerful friends in the right places. I thanked him for the offer and said that I would mention it to Gavin and Brett. I also explained to Cullen that I was grumpy because it was just after six on a Saturday morning and I had no school today and had been looking forward to a long lie in. Cullen offered his apologies and said that he just had a tendency to forget about the time difference.

We talked for ages and I asked if he had changed his mind about school but he said that he was more than happy living with the natives in the colonies. I had to laugh at that.

“So is there any reason why you want me to come back to school?” He asked.

“Because I miss having you around,” I said. “Chris and Steve do too.”

“Ahhh...that's so sweet mate,” Cullen said. “Any other reasons?”

“Yeah, your sweet voice when you sing. I've told you this before but we really could use that voice in the band,” I said.

“Now that is one thing that could tempt me to come back to school,” my friend said.

I knew that he never would return to school because he just loved his life in Arizona to much. Then again, I think that I would if I was surrounded by all those gay boys. It would be sooooooooooo cooooooooooooool. We talked for a little while longer and Cullen asked about Gary. I informed him that Gary was asleep but I looked under the duvet and saw that little Gary was wide awake and really in need of some attention. Cullen laughed at that and said that he wouldn't mind being able to play with little Gary again but I had to tell him that, since the trip to Las Vegas, Gary and I had decided that we would only fool around with each other, so to speak. Cullen was a little disappointed at this but he said that understood and that he knew that we loved each other deeply. Before ending the call, Cullen said that he was sorry for waking me up and said that he hoped that he would have a chance to see us in the summer. I said that I would look forward to it.

I did get back to sleep for a few more hours before I finally got up and went to take a shower and then went down for breakfast. Tron and Brett were already eating. We were soon joined by our visitors as well as Keith, Alexei, Liam and Nick. They were all shortly followed by Gary and Gavin. I could tell from the look on his face that Gavin was obviously feeling a little guilty about having woken us up. He grabbed a glass of orange juice and then asked if he could take Jack for a walk.

Tron looked at me and then at Gavin and asked, “Gavin, did you have another nightmare last night?”

“Yeah but Brett went and got Jason and he gave me some very good advice. Now, if you don't mind, I want to take Jasons' dog for a walk,” Gavin said.

Tron was looking a little annoyed that he had only just found out that his cousin had had yet another nightmare but Brett just said, “I've had to wake you up more times than enough since we got here and you deserved to get your sleep. Jason has been through the lose of his parents and he understands what Gavin is going through better than anyone, so please, just don't get upset upset about this.”

With that we changed the subject and talked about how we were all going to spend the day. We decided that we spend the morning swimming and then maybe go for a ride on the quad bikes in the afternoon.

During the afternoon, Gavin had decided that he wanted to ride of the mountain bikes and it was while before any of us noticed that he was not around. It was Tron who said, “Has anyone seen Gavin?”

“Maybe he just wants to be left alone,” Brett said to his cousin.

“Maybe he dose but I just don't want him being alone and doing something stupid,” Tron said.

I had to get involved at this point and said, “Trust me, he's not the type to go and do something like trying to take his own life. I tried that and spent five days in a special unit with other teens that tried to take their own lives and I know form hearing all their stories, all their reasons as to why they did it that Gavin really is not the type to do anything like that. He really dose need sometime alone to grieve and deal with his tragic lose.”

“I just hope that you are right. Now, do you have any ideas as to where he may have gone?” Tron asked.

“He'll probably be at the lake and it looks as if he took Jack with him. If anything had happened, I think that Jack would have come and warned us,” I said.

Everyone else wanted to come with us but I said that that was probably not a good idea. Brett pleaded with us to go, pointing out that, as he was Gavins brother, he (Brett), should be there for him. I said that on this occasion that Tron and I would handle things. We got to the lake and sure enough, there was Gavin with Jack.

Of course, Tron didn't handle things all that well when he said, “Next time you want to be alone, just tell me where you are going so that I don't have to worry about you.”

Gavin glared at him and said, “Why don't you just fuck off and leave me alone anyway. I'm sick and tired of you following me around like I might do something stupid such as trying to take my own life or something. I've talked to aunt Paris and Uncle Raphael about that and assured them that, no matter what I'm going through, no matter how I'm feeling, I just wouldn't do anything like that. So I'll say it again, JUST FUCK OFF.”

I had to grab a hold of Tron who looked as if if he was about to go and punch his cousin. Tron looked me in the eye and said “You can get your fucking hands off me you faggot,” and then he looked at Gavin and said, “And don't ever swear at me again.”

I was really pissed off now and I said to Tron. “You go back to the house and calm down and I also want an apology for what you just called me or you will be leaving, OK?”

“Whatever,” were Trons' parting words as he got back on the quad bike and headed back to the house.

I made my way over to Gavin and sat down beside him. “Are you OK?” I asked.

“Yeah but I just don't seem to get any time alone. No one understands just what all this like for me. They try to understand but they just can't,” Gavin said.

“I know what you mean but I understand, I've been through all this myself but I just got on with my life and I wouldn't change anything about the last two years as they have been the best two years of my life,” I said. “And if you ever need to talk to me about all this, just go ahead and do it, even if it's four in the morning when you call. OK?”

“Yeah, sure, that's OK with me,” he said.

The two of us just spent the next half an hour sitting by the lake and throwing sticks for Jack to run and fetch before we headed back to the house. When we got there, I found Brett and Tron in the studio and they looked as if they had been having an argument. Brett was just sat playing the piano.

When I walked in, Tron was the first to speak, “Jason, I'm so sorry that I called you what I did, I didn't mean it and Gavin, next time you want to be alone, just go ahead and do it. And, Brett, Gavin, I'm sorry if I've been over protective but you are both right when you say that I really don't understand what the two of you are going through. I know that it can't be easy for either of you.”

“You got that right,” the two brothers said in unison.

We spent the next few hours talking and I played some of the music that I would be performing at the A CITY IN CHAOS show in August. I did tell them that they were sworn to secrecy about it and that they could not say a word to Gary about it. They all promised me that the secret was safe with them.

We all headed off to our rooms to get showered and changed ready for the party. When Gary and I entered the marquee that had been set up in the grounds, I noticed the two grand pianos in the middle of the room. Mum came over to Ross and I and said that she wanted us to play some soft, classical music as the guests were arriving. We both said that we didn't have a problem with this. First I had to go and say hi to Chris, Steve, Shane, Callum, Aaron and Craig. As far as the marquee was concerned, Gary and I had seen it from our room and Gary had made a comment along the lines of, “It looks as if dad is having another huge erection in the garden.” We laughed about it for ages.

Craig looked at me and said, “Uncle Jason, can I ask you something?”

“Yeah, OK,” I replied.

“Will you teach me to play the guitar?” Craig asked.

“I would but I don't really have the time,” I said. “Why don't you ask Steve, he can play guitar as well as the bass.”

“I already did and he said that he hasn't got the time either,” Craig said, sticking his bottom lip out in a pout.

Like most bass players, Steve had actually started by learning to play the guitar and then, when he was about nine, around the time that Craig was born, he decided to switch to bass. “Look. I'll tell you what I'll do,” I said, “I'll talk to one of the guitar teachers at the foundation and arrange for them to come and give you some lessons. Would that be OK?”

“Well kewl,” Craig said as he ran off to tell his brother about the idea that I had come up with.

I made my around my friends and spent a little time talking with them and when I got to Chris and Steve I said, “Cullen called me this morning and he said to say hi to his old school mates.”

“We know,” they both said in unison, “the bloody queen called us as well.”

I went and joined Ross at the piano and we spent around a half hour playing some music until I saw my grandparents arrive. I looked at Ross and said, “Would you carry on without me for a little while. My grandparents have just arrived and I know that grandma wants to meet Elton.”

With that I got up and headed towards my grandparents. I gave grandma a kiss on the cheek and then shook hands with granddad as we made our way over to where Elton was sitting. I said to Elton, “this in my grandma, Kathy, she has been looking forward to meeting you as she really enjoys your music.”

Elton stood up and gave grandma a hug and a kiss on the cheek and said, “It's so nice to meet you. It can't have been easy for you losing your daughter and son in law like that?”

Grandma used her handkerchief to dab a few tears from her eyes and said, “No, it was such a shock and a real tragedy but at least their memory lives on in Jason.”

“He's one fine young man and a fantastic musician,” Elton said.

I could feel myself getting a little emotional at that point but I had spotted the Duke and El, Cullens' parents arriving and so I excused myself as I made my way over to them. “Good evening your grace,” I said to the Duke as I shook his hand.

“Oh, please,” he said, “just call me Dukey like all my friends do. As you are friend of my son I consider you to be a friend of mine too.”

I turned to El and greeted her with a Kiss on the cheek and said, “Now about your son.”

“What about him? What did the little bugger do now?” Dukey asked.

“Oh, he only decided that he would call me at six o'clock this morning,” I responded.

“That young man is not too old to go over my knee and get a good spanking,” the Duke said.

'And he'd enjoy that,' I thought to myself.

“Now dear, you know how he forgets about the time difference, so don't be too mad at Cullen,” El said to her husband.

I talked with Dukey and El for a little while before heading back over to the piano. As I was making my way there, Elton strolled up beside me.

“So you want to play with me?” I asked in all innocence.

“Well, I thought we could play a few songs together,” he said, laughing. It was obvious that he had picked up on my double meaning.

“I suppose you needed to get away from grandma, she really can talk for England when she gets going,” I said.

“You are right about that but some of the stories about when you were younger were really interesting to listen to,” Elton said as he smiled at me.

I think I must have gone bright red with embarrassment. Anyway, Elton and I spent the next forty minutes or so playing a selection of his hits and also a few of the songs that we, as a band had written ourselves. I had a really great time doing that and Gary even joined in on vocals on a few songs. The main entertainment for the evening was being provided by Tony Horne, a DJ from one of the local radio stations, who was providing the disco for the evening and we also had a live band that some of the guys that had met at the foundation had formed. They called themselves FOUNDATION AND EMPIRE after the title of a novel by the science fiction author Issac Asimov. They had wanted to call themselves THE FOUNDATIONS but someone had pointed out that there had been a group in the sixties that went by that name and so I had suggested the alternative name to avoid any potential legal problems. They were a great band and played a selection of their own songs and cover versions of songs from the sixties and seventies. We all enjoyed their performance and that included Elton and the other guys from his backing band.

It was as we were sat eating our food from the buffet that dad approached the table where we were sitting. “Hi dad, everything OK?” I asked.

“It couldn't be better and this is one great party. I also have some great news for you. I just had a call from the American record company and you guys have just got your first number one over there. Not only that but when you have your half term holiday at the end of May/beginning of June, you get to go to New York to do two shows at Madison Square Gardens,” dad told us.

“Wow, that's awesome,” Steve said.

“So which song did we get to number one?” Chris asked.

“FOREVER AUTUMN,” dad said.

I was a little disappointed that they hadn't a song that we had written but this was a major achievement in our career. Mum, Geoff, Amanda Linda, Howard, Boris and Sophia all came and congratulated us on this fantastic news. When she got to me, Linda kissed me on the cheek and said, “And thank you Jason for telling Craig that you would arrange a guitar teacher for him. He's so excited about it.”

“Hey, it's no big deal. You know that I have always seen him as my little brother,” I responded.

“Did he thank you properly?” Linda asked.

Linda looked at Craig and said, “I think that you, young man, have something that you need to say to Jason,” Linda said to her youngest son.

Craig looked at his mum and he looked a little puzzled and then said, “Oh yeah, thanks Jason for saying that you would find a guitar teacher for me.”

“It's no problem little guy, you know that I would do anything to help you out,” I said

“OK, I think that I'll leave you guys to celebrate your latest success,” Linda said as she walked away.

At this point, Elton came and joined us and he also congratulated us on the US number one. He also told us that we would love performing at Madison Square Gardens and that it was one of his favourite places in the world to do a live show. He had, after all played there a total of sixty times and that is why he had done the show there on his sixtieth birthday, it was the sixtieth time that he had played at this venue. We had along way to go to reach that kind of a record but then again, we were all still young and so had plenty of time to achieve that. Elton also called over a waiter and ordered champagne for all of us. The waiter had said that he was not to serve alcohol to anyone that was underage but Elton just said that it was his party, (well, he was the guest of honour) and that he wanted us to be able to celebrate our first US number one in true rock and roll style. Needless to say that the waiter was not about to object but was worried that he may lose his job. Elton just told to him do as he had been asked and that he (Elton) would deal with the boss. A few minutes later we were all sipping Krug champagne and toasting our latest success.

Dad came over and said, “I also needed to tell you guys that you have been booked to appear at the Earth Live concert at Wembley stadium on the 7th July.”

“Well after what I saw on the news the other night, I think that it is important for us to do our bit in getting the message about global warming across,” Chris said.

“So just what did you see on the news?” Shane asked.

“They now say that the polar ice caps will be gone by 2020 and that is something that will affect everyone of us in this room tonight,” Chris replied.

I was aware of all the stuff on global warming but I hadn't known that it was so serious. Like the rest of the guys, when I heard that, I was really happy that we had been asked to perform at the concert. People of our own age would be more likely to to take notice of us on this than they would of the politicians or some of the other acts that would be appearing. My own view was that some of those acts would be performing for the publicity value of the event, not because they cared about what was happening to our planet.

Word had soon spread about the US number one and the fact that we would be going to New York to do some concerts and we had a constant stream of people coming and congratulating us. It did detract a little from the main purpose of the party but we knew that Elton was happy for us and had been through all this himself during his career. Brett and Gavin also asked dad if they would be able to go New York with us and invite some of their friends from Boston to one of the shows. Dad thought that that was a great and went to talk to Paris and Raphael about. They both thought that it would be good for the boys to do that.

The party started to wind down at about 0ne am and it was about this time that Gary and I went off to bed. We kissed for a while before falling asleep in each others arms. We were both tired as it had been a very long but interesting day.

End of Chapter 46!!!!!!

First off, I want to say that I am sorry that it has taken so long to do this chapter but I have been very busy with a few other things. Also, it has given me the chance to make use of a few things that did crop up in the news this week. Anyway, I hope that you liked this chapter.

The chapter with the trip to New York won't be happening for around three or four chapters but I have asked David Lee if I can some of the characters from his story, TALES FROM BENTONVILLE, come to New York for one of the shows. I haven't written to David for some time but he was interested in the idea. I have started to write that chapter so that I can send it to David so that he can look over my ideas before I post the chapter.

The characters of Cullen, El and Dukey appear courtesy of the story TRAVELER by my friend Carl Dickson. Thanks Carl!!!!!! Carl had told me that come August 2007, there will be some really interesting events happening in Traveler and I have started to write that chapter of this story and sent my ideas on those events to Carl. So please don't think that I have lost interest in writing this, it is just that I haven't had that much time for writing lately. Thank you all for being so understanding.

Thank you to all of you who wrote after he last chapter and sorry that I didn't write back personally but as I said, my time has been really limited of late, (as had my access to the Internet). I'm sure that those of you who wrote know who you are and thank you all for your e-mails. Sorry that I haven't mentioned you by name but I don't have the list of names to hand as I write this.

See you all soon.

Lol Paul.
