A Meeting of the Twain Part 9

The following few months were busy and wonderful for Lex and Kainshka. Busy because of affairs of State, wonderful because they were both secure in their relationship. It was a closeness of hearts, minds and bodies.

Lex's experiences with other men, enabled him to initiate Kainshka into the intimacies of the expression of the love of two men. The discovery of his sexual preference, plus the fact that he was now politically secure as the Rajah of Landerabad, made Kainshka a more open and relaxed person. There was often laughter heard in the Palace, something rather rare during the opening years of his reign, and also during the last years of his father's life. People found they could talk freely and easily with him. The Council with its new members was often consulted, and the Councillors found that they were free to speak their mind. It was not held against them when they spoke with cogent reasons against the opinion of their Rajah. Only rarely, and then on minor matters, did Kainshka overrule the majority opinion of his Council.

Lex and Kainshka continued to meet about once a week on the roof top to play chess. Kainshka had a room with place for a small fire built up there, so that they could retreat there when the weather was cool. Yes, chess was played, but much of the time was spent expressing their love for each other.

One subject was frequently discussed in those early months; should Kainshka marry. Lex passed on to Kainshka the hidden message from Ralph in Thomas' letter. Ralph was married, was fathering a steady succession of children, but still liked to go with men. Lex wondered how he managed it, whom he went with, and whether it was with one man, or several. He thought it was more likely to have been one man, knowing that for an adult to have a sexual relationship with another in an English village had dangers, while more than one would widen the be danger. Lex did not push Kainshka either way. He listened, and contributed to the discussion.

"I will support you whatever you decide. If you marry and want to do what we do no more, then we can always just play chess."

"No, Lex. If I was not Rajah I would not marry. I would live with you openly. The Council keeps on at me to marry. But I feel concerned for the girl. How will she feel knowing my heart is elsewhere?"

"Isn't the heart of a Rajah often elsewhere, with all the women in the Zenana rather than with the Rani? Did not your father's heart wander towards the end of his reign."

"True."

Another step in the relationship was reached a few months later when Soumitra invited his Rajah and Lex to hunt in his part of the country. It was the first time they had several days away from court life together, and they looked forward to it.

Soumitra had set up camp in a more desolate part of the State. There were very few people, and the hunting exceptionally good. The camp was set by the upper course of the river that eventually flowed powerfully down through the gorge out of Landerabad. Three tents had been set apart, for Kainshka, Lex and Soumitra. The Rajah's perpetual escort and the cooks and other servants necessary for a royal camp were accommodated some distance away. Sahl and Mohi had come with Lex. They were more than just stable men, they were increasingly becoming personal servants to Lex.

The first night nothing eventful happened. The following day there was some good hunting. The hunting party returned to camp hot, tired and dirty, but in good spirits.

"I'm going to clean up, and cool down by getting into that river," announced Lex, with memories of getting into the Marran back home in his younger days.

Soumitra was surprised when Lex stripped off there and then and plunged into the water. His face emerged laughing. "That's better."

With a laugh, Kainshka began to strip off, and joined Lex.

Soumitra stood with an open mouth. He had never seen a naked Englishman, and had certain never seen his Rajah naked.

"Come on Soumitra, in you come," ordered Kainshka.

Slowly, and with a certain amount of reluctance, Soumitra stripped off and plunged into the water. But for him the shocks were not over.

There was a great deal of laughter, and splashing in which all three joined in whole heartedly. But Soumitra noted the familiarity that existed between Lex and Kainshka. The great shock was when he heard Lex call his Rajah 'Kainy'. As he observed the other two he saw how much they tended to touch each other, pushing each other, ducking each other, like school boys in the water. After all they were still in their early twenties.

Soumitra announced that he had to see that everything was ready for their meal. Kainshka gave him a wave as he departed, and promptly jumped on Lex's back and pulled him down under the water. As Soumitra walked back to where the meal was being prepared he put two and two together and made four.

Half an hour later, clean and fully dressed Kainshka and Lex walked the fifty yards or so down to the main part of the camp. A carpet had been placed on the ground. There was an excellent meal. Neither of them noticed when Soumitra got up, and gave some orders to Sahl.

After the meal a story teller came forward, and told a long story of the exploits of one of Kainshka's mythical ancestors. It was late when Soumitra, Lex and Kainshka made their way back to their tents. Good night greetings were exchanged. Lanterns burned in each of the tents.

Lex went into his tent and found it almost empty. He came out of his tent and met Kainshka coming out of his.

"Someone has taken my things!"

"Someone has placed them in my tent!"

"In your tent?"

In unison they called out, "Soumitra, is this you idea?"

Soumitra emerged, and bowed to his Rajah. "Rajadhiraz, I thought the two of you would like to share."

"How did you know, Soumitra?"

"Rajadhiraz, when I saw the two of you playing like school boys in the water, I guessed. Then while you were eating I asked Sahib Lex's servant Sahl, if the two of you would be happy if the Sahib things were moved into your tent. He didn't want to, but eventually he said 'Yes'. So I told him to move Sahib's things into your tent. Did I do wrong?"

"No Soumitra, you did right." Kainshka put an arm round Lex, and they to turned to go back into the tent. Lex turned his head and spoke over his shoulder, "Thanks, Soumitra."

"May the gods watch over you," murmured the older man.

"He's a good man," said Lex,, and he put his arms round Kainshka..

"He was your suggestion for the Council."

"What an unexpected pleasure. Another night together."

"But with no battle, with the possibility of death on the morrow."

They stood kissing, and then undressed each other.

"Kainy, every time I see you naked, you seem a more perfect man that the last time."

"You won't say that when I begin to bulge down here," he patted his stomach. "Or when the wrinkles come."

"You will always be beautiful when I behold you. But I am biased, because you are my special man."

They lay down together, and for a long while talked and murmured endearments. They knew they had the whole of the night, and that there was no hurry. But they had had an energetic day hunting, they had played around in the water, and then they had eaten a large meal. There were increasingly long silences in their talk, and both drifted off into a contented sleep.

Kainshka woke to find his hard prick was pressed into the crack between Lex's buttocks. He moved slightly, and felt Lex stir and push his buttocks back.

"You awake, Lex?"

"Yes. And I can feel something warm and hard wanting to enter me."

"Is that what you want?"

"A perfect way to begin a new day. My Rajah's prick waiting to enter me."

"I have nothing to ease my entry."

"Your spit will have to do." Lex spat copiously into his hand and used it to lubricate his arse hole.

Kainshka did not make a painless entry, but it was not unbearable. Slowly, and gently the royal prick forced its way in.

"That's just perfect. Need we go hunting, can't you keep it there all day?"

"No; because tonight I shall want you in me. And it will be all the better for a day of looking forward to it."

In the morning Soumitra saw from the look in the two men's faces that he action had been appreciated. Both at different times thanked him. He resolved to have more of these hunting trips.

Six months after the rebellion and the fighting that had gone on among the neighbouring states, when all was peaceful again, Lex was summoned to Calcutta.

"I've been ordered to go to Calcutta, Kainy."

"You're not being recalled, I hope."

"I don't think so. I have not been told to bring all my possessions, which would have been the case if I was being replaced."

"Don't be away for longer than you can help. I shall miss you. Your cricket team needs you."

Lex laughed. They had a long session of love making on the day before Lex's departure.

He made the journey to Calcutta as quickly as he could. He stayed with Hugh North, and they sat up until the early hours catching up on each other's news.

"I thought you were going to go back to England, Hugh?"

"I will eventually. I shall stay here as long as the Warren Hastings is Gov. Gen. and also I now have a couple of children and do not want to leave Urmila."

"You still intend to leave her and take your sons back with you?"

"I'm having me doubts about that, I must admit."

"Well then, make an honest woman of her, and marry her."

"I may well do that. It would only be fair to her. I would not be in danger of marrying an English woman with more than half my heart back here in India."

The next day Lex was summoned to the Governor General's Residence. As before, he was conducted into the presence by Hugh, who remained present.

"I wanted to hear from you about how things are in Landerabad, now that the troubles are over."

They held a lengthy discussion about the situation in that part of India.

"Is your man going to marry?"

"He's still deliberating, your Excellency."

"I think he should get on with it. Will he marry one of his own, or some neighbouring Rajah's daughter?"

"I don't know the answer to that."

"If he's thinking of marrying a foreigner, make sure she's not someone in the pay or under the influence of the damn Frogs."

"The Rajah's desire is that his country is left in peace."

"That's all right by us, as long as it is a pro-British peace." Warren Hastings paused. "I also wanted to thank you for what you did in spotting that your secretary Smith was up to no good. Your prompt observation and the way you dealt with it, by alerting us, meant that their plans went off half cock. If Landerabad had become pro-Frog we'd have faced the same problem as the great Moghul. He tried to get into that damned tight-arsed place for twenty years, and then didn't succeed. We might have done it in less time, but it would have been a costly but necessary operation. You have more than justified my appointment of you. There were people who criticised me for appointing you, but you justified my appointment. I intend to reward you."

Warren Hastings stood up, and Lex followed suit immediately.

"Kneel, Alec. Sword, Hugh."

Lex heard a sword being withdrawn from its scabbard, and then to his amazement he felt it lightly touch his shoulders. "Arise, Sir Alexander Penbarton."

Lex stood up, astonishment all over his face.

"Congratulations, Alec. That should help when you go home. I don't know for how much longer I shall be Governor General. I am surrounded by those who plot my downfall. But they can't take away what I've just done."

They stood around drinking wine and talking for several minutes.

"You know, Alec, I love India more than my own country." [See footnote]

"I understand you. India grows on you. At first it is all heat, and noise and smells, but then you come to see the beauty, and wonder of the land and its people."

Lex was away from Landerabad for two and a half months. When he eventually returned it was the final few days of 1782. He and his escort arrived back at the Residency early one evening. As always he took his own horse to the stables where he was met by Sahl.

"Welcome back, Sahib Lex." There was a happy welcoming grin on Sahl's face.

"It's good to be back. Everything all right here?"

"Yes, except for young Mohi."

"What's he been doing then?"

"He's a real pain in the gand most of the time."

"I thought that was what you liked about him. Why don't you give him a pain in the gand?"

Sahl laughed. "I do. Sir, regularly. There's someone who's been missing you."

"And who's that?"

"The honourable Rajah. He's not been his usual happy self while you've been away."

"I shall have to go up to the Palace in the morning and see what can be done about that," said Lex, with a wink. He went into the Residency, and ordered a bath and a meal to be made ready for him. He had ridden a long way that day so that he could be back before nightfall. He decided to eat before getting rid of the dust and sweat of the journey.

He was sitting down eating his meal when there was a commotion outside. He looked up as in strode Kainshka.

"I heard you were back, Lex. I had to see you straight away."

Lex stood and gave his usual bow to the Rajah.

Kainshka told his escort to wait outside, and Lex signalled to his servant to leave them. As the door shut they hugged each other.

"I must stink, Kainy. I've ridden a long way today."

Kainy kissed Lex, and nuzzled his face into Lex's neck, sniffing. "I like your smell, my dear man. Now I know it's really you and not some phantom of my imagination."

"It is good to be back with you again."

"You've been away far too long. But finish your meal, you must be hungry."

"You tell me the news of Landerabad, while I finish this." Lex sat, and resumed eating.

The telling of local news did not take long. "And what did that Governor General of yours want?"

"He told me I wasn't fucking you enough."

"I'd agree with that." Then with a shocked voice, "Does he know?"

"I don't think so. I don't think he'd worry about it if he did, as long as things are peaceful here."

"So what did he want?"

"Seriously, he wants you to marry someone who is pro-Company. He also thanked me for what happened over Alan Smith and the rebellion. And guess what? He knighted me! 'On your knees, Alec. Sword, Hugh', and there and then he knighted me, so I am now Sir Alexander Penbarton.

"So you are now the same as your brother?"

"Not quite, he is a baronet. It looks as though his brother Thomas will succeed him, and then his son, my nephew Charles after him. Any son I might have would not be a knight after me."

"But you are Sir Alexander. That's wonderful, I shall have to give you something."

"What will you give me?"

"Oh, I shall think of something. A diamond or two?" he added with a grin.

"I know what I need now. I'm fed up of smelling to high heaven of sweat and dust. I need to bathe." Lex clapped his hands, and a servant entered. "Is the water ready for me?"

"Yes, Sir."

"We can continue talking while you bathe," said Kainy.

Lex led the way. Shortly after his arrival in Landerabad he had had a large marble bath installed . There were of course no taps, and all the water had to be carried by servants and poured into the bath. There was however a plug hole for the draining away of the water. Lex started to undress, and threw his dirty clothes into a corner. He stepped into the bath, and lowered himself into the warm, comforting water.

Kainy watched him. "There's room for two in there." He, in turn removed his clothes, and got into the bath with Lex. They continued to talk.

"I've made a decision, Lex. An important decision."

"You're going to marry!"

"Yes, I think I owe it to my country to get a son and heir."

"Have you decided who?"

"The Rajah of Misanpore has an eligible daughter."

"What's she like?"

"I'm to see."

"Is that done?"

"Not usually."

"One of our Kings married a woman on the basis of seeing her portrait. When it came to it he thought he thought she looked like a mare! So he never fucked her. He divorced her. Strangely enough after all that they became quite good friends."

Kainy laughed. "But I'm worried about you. If I was not the Rajah, and you were not the Resident, I would not need to take this step, we could be together, live together, but...."

"I know, my friend. How do you think things will be between us?"

"I cannot see my love for you getting any the less. Most Ranis have to put up with other women in a Rajah's life. With me it will be different, it will be a man."

"You want to us to continue....?"

"Yes, of course. Will it make any difference to you?"

"What if you come to love this woman who becomes the mother of your children?"

"Can a man not love two people? I shall continue to love you, what ever happens. I hope we will be able to continue to show that love for each other."

"I think my heart would break if I thought our love had ceased, or even lessened."

"So would mine. I want to kiss you, Lex, but this bath is not made for that."

Lex laughed and stood up. Kainy stood as well, and the two, wet, naked men clasped each other. Their hands felt each other, and their pricks hardened and pressed against each other.

"Sit on the edge, Lex."

Lex sat on the edge, and Kainy knelt before Lex, and pushed open his legs. He began by kissing and licking with his tongue a few inches from Lex's knee. He changed from one leg to the other, each time moving his lips and tongue a little further up Lex's thigh.

Lex co-operated by opening his legs as wide as he could. When Kainy reached Lex's crotch he thrust his face and mouth into Lex's groin. He used his mouth to play with Lex's balls.

There were murmurs of appreciation from Lex, and Kainy's actions got more intimate. He would run the very tip of his tongue slowly up Lex's prick a number of times. Then he would pay a visit to that sensitive area behind Lex's balls. With each action Lex was getting more and more aroused, and his prick harder and harder.

"What have I done to deserve all this."

Kainy looked up for a moment. "This is part of my gift to you on your becoming Sir Alexander Penbarton." He resumed his ministrations.

Eventually he took Lex's prick into his mouth, and sucked, his tongue flicking and exploring every part of the Englishman's prick. The tightening of Lex's muscles, and the increased heavy breathing warned Kainy to be prepared. Lex let out a great cry of ecstasy, as he pumped his love juice into the willing mouth of the one who meant most to him in all the world.

They paused in silence, both exhausted by what had just taken place.

"Isn't it wonderful, Kainy, just when you think it is impossible for your love to increase, you find you love them even more."

Kainy, still kneeling in the water at Lex's feet, just nodded in agreement.

"It is not just what you have done to me. I thought a lot about you, about us, while I was away in Calcutta. I have had friends before. Good friends, close friends. But with you it is totally different. There are differnces between us. You're Indian and I'm English. Your skin is darker than mind, quite a bit difference that. But these differences don't really matter at all when we are together. You are a ruler, a Rajah, an important man; I am just the humble servant of what is in effect a trading company."

"I'd hardly call the British East India Company, just a trading company nowadays."

Lex gave a slight laugh. "Maybe, but you know what I mean."

"It is as though what makes our friendship difficult makes it more precious and wonderful." Kainy got to his feet and rubbed his knees.

"I suppose you must be going?"

"May I spend the night with you?"

Lex's face lit up. "Of course, you may. But what about your personal guard?"

"They know what we do. I picked four men who have been to our hunting camp at Soumitra's."

"Then let us get dry, and go to bed. There I can say thank you for your gift."

"It was only part of the gift. There will be more to follow."

They started to dry themselves, laughing at the wrinkling effects of their time in the water.

"But tell me about Calcutta. I suppose you had a different boy in your bed every night?"

"No such luck! But what about you, what did you get up to while I was away."

"I had a different man every night," said Kainy with his eyes twinkling.

"Oh?"

"The day you left I made a public announcement. 'The Rajah of Landerabad wants young men to share his bed at night. They must be blond haired, fair skinned, and blue eyed, proficient English speaker, ability to speak Landerabadese an advantage though not essential.' "

Lex laughed. "I bet you got a lot of applicants."

"I did; a different man every night."

Lex looked puzzled.

"There was one problem. They came every night, and they all seemed the same. But there was no solid flesh and bone I could hold, they were all the same man in the fantasy of my mind."

Lex grinned as he realised. "But not tonight. Tonight you will have flesh and bone."

When they reached the room where Lex slept they threw themselves down on the shayya, or bed, and immediately resumed full bodily contact.

"I can't get enough of you, Kainy."

"Nor can I of you. You said you were going to show your thanks, I want your love juice in me."

"Top or bottom?"

"Bottom. You choose position."

"On our sides." Lex gently prepared Kainy and himself, wriggled forward and began to insert his horn. Slowly it entered, deeper and deeper.

Kainy sighed. "Parting brings sorrow, but getting back together is such bliss."

"One of our English poets wrote 'Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say goodnight until it be tomorrow'."

"Let us do that. Make love until the sky lightens and the cock crows."

Their love making did take up much of that night, though they did get some sleep. It was Kainy who heard the first cock crow, and rose from beside Lex.

"Must you go?" muttered Lex.

"Yes. See you later today." He bent over the sleepy Lex, and kissed him. He turned at the door, but Lex was already back asleep. He roused his dozing escort and they made their way through the awakening town to the Palace.

Later that day at the Palace, Kainshka handed Lex a small leather bag. Inside were three big uncut diamonds. "Congratulations on being Sir Alexander."

Three weeks later Kainy left for Misanpore. He was only away for three weeks. On his return he quickly informed Lex that he intended to make the girl his Rani. "She is slightly shorter than me. She is quite light skinned, and has soft brown eyes. I hope that we will be able to make children."

"Did you tell her about us?"

"No, but I will do. I think it better that I tell her rather than she find out by court gossip."

"When and where the marriage?"

"Oh, here of course. There will be much ceremony. Much hospitality. She will arrive in six weeks. The soothsayers and priests say the marriage will be opportune four days later."

To say that the next six weeks were hectic would be a profound understatement. On the evening before the expected arrival of Shushmita Lex and Kainy snatched an hour together on the roof of the palace. They stood looking out over the city and valley of Landerabad.

Kainshka took hold of Lex's hand. "I wish I was going to join my life to yours."

Lex turned towards Kainshka. "Yes, and I wish so to."

"Being royal isn't easy. It is not all a bed of lotus blossoms. I shall always love you, Lex."

"And I you. I hope I shall be able to make a horn with my prick at the right time."

"I'm sure you will. I hope you have a lot of little princes and princesses." There was a silence before he continued. "Kainy, I hope you come to love her, and can make her happy."

"Thanks for that. You are telling me to try?"

"Yes, I am. I don't want there to be an unhappy woman in the background because of us." Then very softly he continued. "And I don't want you and I to be unhappy because of her. Unhappiness would destroy our relationship."

"We must try hard. I hope she will try hard too."

"Enough talking, Lex. Now I want to enjoy you." He pulled Lex towards the awaiting cushions. Soon they were naked, enjoying each other to the full.

It was a very thoughtful and rather apprehensive Lex who made his way back to the Residency later that day.

It was early afternoon when Sushmita arrived. Reports of her progress had been reaching the Palace at regular intervals. There were a considerable number of her own countrymen escorting her. The members of her family were riding on six elephants that were to form part of her dowry. She herself was in a well-curtained howdah, away from the inquisitive eyes of the populace. The members of her family could be seen by all. The elephants and their escort made their ponderous way up to the Palace. Kainshka would not see his bride until the wedding day.

The marriage ritual was a glittering and sumptuous occasion. The wealth of the State of Landerabad was on show. Sushmita and her people were also out to show that they were no paupers in this match.

Lex was present as Resident at the celebration. He found all the marriage customs of Kainshka's people interesting, and he made comparisons to the marriage of his brother Edward. He had gone into exile a few days before Thomas' wedding. But he had read accounts of several weddings of George III's brood of daughters. At that time the sons tended to take mistresses, rather than make a political marriage.

Lex also got his first glimpse of Sushmita. She was quite small, and because she was simply rather that sumptuously clothed and bejewelled, she looked very young and extremely attractive. She behaved with seemly modesty, keeping her eyes downcast, and only at one point in the ritual giving Kainshka a quick glance, and a shy sweet smile. Lex had been told that formal introductions would be made the following day.

After the ceremony, the couple, with their families went to one part of the Palace, while the others went to another where they were given refreshments.

It was a very thoughtful Lex who made his way back to the Residence. He was met by Sahl who seemed eager to talk, and they were soon joined by Mohi. They asked him about the marriage, and all that he had seen.

"Sahl and I usually play Chinese chequers at his time of an evening. Would you join us?"

Lex and the two Indians played until late.

Eventually the time came for him to be alone, and to go to sleep. He found himself thinking of Kainshka. He hoped that all had gone well with the consummation of the marriage, but he tossed and turned through the night wondering how things would work out between Kainshka, Sushmita and himself.

Two days there was a reception, with formal introduction of members of the Council and members of the upper echelons of Landerabad society to the Rani.

It was held in the smaller chamber. Kainshka and his Rani were seated on a divan that had been placed at floor level, and not on the usual dais.

Each person was announced, and made his way down the empty hall to where the couple were seated, flanked by a couple of guards.

Lex went forward and bowed to the Rajah, and then quarter turned to bow to the Rani.

"This is my good friend, Lex. He is the Company's Resident here."

Lex saw the small woman, with a flawless complexion, and large soft brown eyes.

She looked at him, with twinkling eyes. "Mr Resident, how is this done in your country?"

"The lady, Ma'am, extends her hand, and the man bows, holds her fingers and kisses her hand."

Sushmita smiled and held out her hand. After the briefest pause, Lex took her fingers, bowed his head and kissed her hand.

"That is how it's done, Ma'am."

She gave a soft chuckle. "I must learn more about your country and its ways, and you must teach me."

Lex realised that the presentation to the Rani was over. He bowed to them both, took three steps backwards, turned a left the hall.

Two days later Lex received a message asking him to come to the Palace to play chess at a certain time. He made his way into the Palace. He was now so well known, that he was able to walk past any guards. He was met by a servant and told the Rani wished to speak with him. He followed the servant, and was announced in a smaller room. The Rani was standing when he entered. He bowed. She extended her hand, and so he bowed again, held her finger tips and the kissed her hand.

"I wanted to speak with you, Mr Resident. Or may I call you Lex, as Kai does."

"Of course, you may."

"When we're alone you can call me Sushmita. Kai has spoken to me, and told me all about you, and the deep friendship that there is between you."

Lex wondered what was coming.

"Before I left my old home, I was told that it would be likely that my husband would take a woman, or several women, from the Zenana as lovers. I was also told that some men take boys as their lovers. I was not told that my husband's lover might be a man, about the same age as himself. My duty is to hope that I may bear Kai sons, and to love and care for him as a wife. From seeing you with him, I realise that you too love him greatly."

Lex bowed his head in acknowledgement.

"There is a temptation for me to be jealous, to hate you, to become bitter, and so spoil any chance of a good relationship with Kai. I think, Lex, we should be united in our love for Kai, and not divided by it. I hope that we will become friends, and that you will teach me English, and the ways of the English."

"I would count it a privilege to be your friend, Sushmita. I should greatly like to teach you English, and explain our ways."

"Good. But now you must go and play chess, and do the other things you like to do."

Though Lex was bronzed by his years in the Indian sun, he was sure that Sushmita detected the embarrassed blush that spread over his face at her words.

The servant was waiting outside the open door, and led him to where Kainshka was waiting. Lex bowed, and Kainshka led the way to the door and staircase leading up to the roof of the Palace.

"So you've told Sushmita about us?" said Lex when they arrived at the top of the stairs.

"Yes. But how do you know?"

"I was taken to her, before being brought to you."

"What did she say?" asked Kainshka anxiously.

"She said that she had been told to expect you to take women from the Zenana, and possibly to take young boys. But no one had warned her of the possibility of a man."

"And a foreigner, an Englishman, at that," muttered Kainshka. "Was she angry? How was she with you?"

"She said her duty was to bear you sons. But I believe she loves you, Kainy. She wants me to teach her English, and to be friends."

A look of relief spread over Kainshka's face. He spread open his arms, and Lex came to him. "Do you think that will be possible?"

"Life will be better for all three of us, if we can make it so. I'm going to try."

"Yes, we all must try. I cannot give you up, Lex. Life would not be worth living without you. But I like her. Do you think it possible to love both a man and a woman?"

"I think, my friend, that is something you are going to work out, and discover for yourself."

They kissed, and immediately pushed their crotches into each other. Both responded with a hardening, and each felt the hardening of the other.

"You're glad to see me then, Kainy?"

"Even more glad to feel you."

"So how has it all gone?"

"Well. I had no problems, except the breaking and entering. But once in, it was fine, except I pour my juice into her too quickly."

"That was because it was a new experience for you."

"I've got better at it since. I am finding out what gives her pleasure. I believe she's beginning to enjoy it."

"So we are to look forward to some little Kainies, and Sushmitas then?"

"Maybe. If the gods will. But now I want my man." Kainshka began to undress Lex. "How has it been for you?"

"I thought a lot about you. Sahl and Mohi have been good. I think they realised my concerns."

"Those two are more than servants. They really care for you."

"I know. I really care for them. Before you and I realised that we liked the same thing, I thought several times of seeing whether they would let me join them, and make it a threesome. I was afraid of the repercussions. You were worth waiting for."

Kainshka had removed all of Lex's clothes, and most of his own. He knelt in front of Lex, and took hold of the hard prick in front of him. "It is still as beautiful as ever. And I want it every bit as much as ever." He leaned forward and placed the drop of liquid that appeared on the tip of Lex's prick onto his tongue. He looked up at Lex. "That is the best taste in the whole world."

"No, it isn't. Yours is!"

They laughed, and Lex bent over to remove the remaining garment on Kainshka.

Kainshka took hold of Lex's hand, and led him over to the carpet and pile of cushions. They walked side by side, their pricks, hard and swinging in front of them.

They lay down and enjoyed their closeness. It was Kainshka who took the real initiative. With a succession of kisses he got his face into Lex's crotch. There he applied his tongue, lips and nose to Kainshka's prick and balls. The groans of pleasure encouraged him.

Lex then open his legs, and pulled his knees up and held them as close to his shoulders as he could. He was now fully open to Kainshka, who took full advantage of this full access. Lex's perineum and anus received many wet kisses and licks.

"I want you, Kainy. I want your lund in there."

Kainy just continued.

"Kainy I want your lund."

"Who are you to order a Rajah what to do?"

"The Resident of the British East India Company to the State of Landerabad."

Kainshka just continued as before.

"Put that wonderful lund of yours in me. I must have it, deep in me."

"Who are you. giving me orders?"

"I'm your friend, who loves and worships every part of your body. Please Kainy let me have your lund before I shoot my juice."

"As your friend I will fuck you, but not as the Rajah."

"But it is still the same lund going into me."

Kainshka reached for the sweet smelling ointment that he had had especially made, and which they used at times like this. He prepared Lex and himself, and then placed the tip of his prick against Lex.

Lex tried to wriggle forward to make it enter, but Kainshka was holding the backs of his thighs firmly so he could not move. "Kainy, why are you teasing me so much today?"

"Because I just want to see if you want me as much as I want you."

"You must have a will of iron then. I could not have resisted the urge to enter you, if our places had been reversed."

"But I am the Rajah; I need to have a will of iron, especially when dealing with demanding British Residents." He pushed his prick into Lex in one powerful move.

Lex was caught by surprise. "Will of iron, a lund of iron!" He tensed for a moment, and then relaxed, enjoying the feel of Kainshka's balls against his buttocks.

The two of them were now skilled in their mutual love making. They knew what they both enjoyed. More and more often they were able to reach their climax together. That happened this time. Kainshka's seed was deposited deep inside Lex, while Lex's contribution was a copious load that sprayed out all over his chest and stomach.

"That was a lot," said Kainshka, scooping up some on a finger and placing it in his mouth. "I presume you have not been dealing with yourself?"

"Only once or twice. Certainly not for the last three days."

Two weeks later Lex received a letter from his brother, Thomas.

Fraternal Greetings from your brother, Thomas, It is with a sad and heavy heart that I sit down to pen this epistle to you. Our elder brother, Edward, was taken by the Lord and departed this life three days ago. I believe I conveyed to you in my last epistle that his constitution was weakened and his disposition far from satisfactory. He was taken ill with an ague, and steadily deteriorated. His beloved Caroline and myself were with him when he finally expired. He will be interred in the family vault tomorrow morning. It has been both a great shock and sadness to us all at the Hall.

It is humbling for me to realise that I am now both Sir Thomas Penbarton, and Rector of this parish. I shall naturally endeavour to fulfil both responsibilities to the fullest extent of my ability. I know that I shall have my God given helpmate, Georgina, at my side to assist me in these multitudinous exertions.

I will not prolong this epistle as I must prepare for tomorrow. There will be many present, friends from surrounding villages as well as the dear village inhabitants. I have given instructions that there is to be the minimum of labour done tomorrow on properties owned by the estate. But cows have to be milked, and horses fed and watered.

It is strange to write this letter, conscious of the immediacy of the unhappy event that has occurred, knowing that it will eventually reach you many months hence, when for us here things will have moved on, and no doubt other things will be uppermost in our minds and demanding our attention.

Pray think of me with the new responsibilities.

Young Charles grows apace, and is full of life and vitality. He frequently gets into mischief and has to be reprimanded. Everybody says he should behave better as the Rector's son, but my recollection of the educational establishments I attended, and elsewhere, is that sons of the cloth are often the worst behaved.

Dearest Georgina asks me to convey her sisterly love to you.

With kindest loving regards, your brother Thomas.

The following day Lex replied to Thomas's letter. He found it hard to be upset at Edward's death. They had never been close. Edward had always been judgmental towards him; but he was his brother. He wondered what Edward's widow Caroline would do. Would she go and live in the dower house down in the village. From Lex's recollection it would need a lot of work done to it, to bring it up to Caroline's standards.

In many people's lives there are years when there are few significant changes. They have achieved much, the changes and development of earlier years are over. Such was now true for Lex. The years from his arrival in Landerabad until the autumn of 1795 were such level years.

He had established his position as Resident. He was secure in his friendship with Kainshka. If anything, their relationship continued to deepen. They delighted in each others presence, whether it was on business, or at some social function, while hunting, or riding out of an early morning, playing cricket and chess, and of course their times of sexual intimacy.

Six weeks after their marriage Sushmita whispered in Kainshka's ear that she thought she was with child. This was so. Kainshka soon told Lex the news. Their first child was a girl. Though there was a certain amount of disappointment parental instincts soon took over. Sushmita was advised, and soon found that she did not wish to make love while carrying a child. When the child was born this continued for several months. This was to be a repeated pattern. Kainshka and Sushmita proved to be a very fertile couple.

"We make love, and I plant my seed in her a few times, and she's with child again," remarked Kainshka to Lex.

"I'm not complaining, it means that one way or another I get all your seed. I think it is a miracle that I do not fall pregnant the amount of your seed you pump into me."

"You can talk. What about all your seed I carry around in my mouth or in my belly?"

They laughed, rejoicing in the friendship and all its intimacies.

Kainshka and Sushmita's second child was the longed-for boy. He was called Ashokah. In fact three boys were born, before there was another girl. Kainshka took the training of his sons very seriously. As soon as they were old enough they were seated on a horse, made to hold a cricket bat, and taught how to play chess. From the earliest days Kainshka instilled into his boys the principles of succession: the oldest would be the next Rajah, and that it was the absolute duty of his brothers to obey and serve him. Kainshka did not want a fraternal blood bath when he eventually died.

In 1784 the Governor General, Warren Hastings, resigned and returned to Great Britain. Hugh North returned with him. Back in Britain Warren Hastings faced impeachment before Parliament in Westminster Hall. 145 sittings later he was found 'not guilty' of the charges laid against him. But he left the Hall a ruined man, having spent all the vast wealth he had obtained in India on his own defence. The East India Company came to his rescue and enabled him to live in retirement as a country gentleman. Towards the end of his life he was made a Privy Councillor, and was honoured by both the City of London and, believe it or not, Parliament.

His successor as Governor General was Charles, First Marquis Cornwallis. He was a very different man. He had been involved, and had some responsibility for the debacle that led to the loss of the American Colonies. He came to India determined that he would not be involved in the loss of India. As Governor General, he showed a laudable concern for the welfare of the natives, but he also sought by every means available to extend the power and dominion of the East India Company.

Six months after Cornwallis' arrival in India Lex was summoned to Calcutta. Nothing noteworthy occurred. Lex spent a lot of time and effort over the next seven years resisting the efforts of Cornwallis to interfere in Landerabad. He wanted to station more sepoys there - 'to stop a possible uprising'. Lex pointed out that the small number of Company sepoys in Landerabad were there to guard the Residency and himself, and had found no need to interfere in the affairs of Landerabad, except when dealing with the after-effects of Company employee Alan Smith's treason against the Company. He also wanted Landerabad to pay for the sepoys. Lex pointed out that such action would be more likely to lead to difficulties in the relationship between the Company and the State. The seven years that Cornwallis was in India involved much correspondence between the Resident and the Governor General, with Lex frustrating or hindering unwise proposals from the Governor General.

These years were also a time when Lex steadily made money. This was expected of all in the employ of the Company. The wealth that he accumulated for himself was not vast, certainly when compared with that of others in India. His long term future lay in Landerabad with Kainshka. Fairly early on he decided that if he was posted elsewhere he would resign from the Company and remain living in the State. He was already very Indian in his ways. He wore Indian clothes, except when called to Calcutta. He ate Indian food. He spoke the languages he had learnt for more often than he spoke English. He often joined Kainshka in worshipping an Indian god in one of the temples.
