Albrich

Introduction

It was a wild electrical storm. The worst anyone had seen in years with power outages through out the large city. Worst of all the Weather Channel had predicted fair weather and a most pleasant evening in the mid-sixties. High winds had whipped around the down town area uprooting trees and causing millions of dollars in damage.

"Jesus Christ! What is that?" said Officer Andrew Williams to his partner as the rain fell in torrents.

Tony Versailles peered out the window. The rain continued in torrents making it almost impossible to see. A bolt of lightening shot across the sky seemingly feet above their heads.

"Shit!" he yelled in surprise.

Vaguely through the sheets of rain he could see something lying in the alleyway. He continued to peer into the darkness.

"Hold on!" Officer Versailles said to his partner as he moved the searchlight from side to side down the alleyway. "I thought I saw something... I there it is! It's alive, some sort of animal." The object stirred as if struggling to get up. It appeared to be covered in some sort of clear slim. The creature stood up on its two feet tilted its head back and let the heavy down pour wash away the slim.

By now Officer Versailles could see it better "No, hold on it's a kid!"

As Officer Tony Versailles got out of the car the rain stopped and the clouds cleared. The worst storm he'd ever seen was gone. But he didn't even notice it because his attention was totally on the boy. The boy looked at him and for a split second he thought the boy had bright yellow eyes, which startled him for a second, but when he looked again the boys eyes were blue.

"Hey, kid! Where's your clothes?" he said loudly.

The kid just stood there looking scared and confused. "I said, where are your clothes!" Tony could now see the boy clearly. He was shivering and very scared looking.

The boy didn't reply. His eyes rolled back and he collapsed.

*********

"How's John Doe Junior doing?" asked Officer Versailles.

"He's doing fine, Tony. An orderly says it sounds like he's speaking `Klingon' when he does speak. He seems alert but no understandable response besides saying `Albrich'. Any luck in finding his parents?" asked Dr. Joyce Gaston.

"None. Sis, it's so weird, Albrich."

"Yeah, he seems to respond to that name."

Officer Tony Versailles walked in to the private room of John Doe, Jr. or as they were now beginning to call him Albrich. For some reason the fact that there were no monitors, no TV and in fact nothing electronic in the room did not seem strange or unusual. All that was in the room was a bed and the boy -- age 14 or so according to Dr. Gaston.

Tony looked at the boy who was breathing slowly with his eyes closed. The boy had a perfect body blond hair not one blemish, no moles, no freckles, perfectly smooth evenly toned skin. Everything physical was in perfect proportion.

Dr. Gaston came into the room. She smiled at Tony. "He's one very good-looking boy. I can't believe someone would just dump him naked in an ally. No child needs to be abused."

"Yeah, I agree," responded Tony in a hushed voice, "I've applied for guardianship as a foster parent. Genna and Aubrey will be coming to see him today."

"He needs someone like you Tony, Genna and Aubrey. I almost get this feeling that he would like that. Almost like he waiting for someone he can trust."

That was what Tony Versailles was feeling too. He could feel a connection between himself and the boy. Was it because the boy's name seemed to be Albrich, the name of his oldest brother who had died many years ago?

In the past few days there had been countless time when it seemed he was looking at his brother Albrich.

He wondered how Albrich would get along with Aubrey. Was it right to bring such a boy into their family? He knew his son. He loved his son. Would Albrich be Aubrey's downfall?

****

"So tell me Aubrey, what's your new brother like?" asked Angelea, "Is he cute?"

Aubrey blushed. "I don't know Angie. He's in the hospital. I think he's in a coma or something."

"He's in a coma?"

"Yeah well still in shock. Dad said when he speaks it sounds foreign. I think Dad is just hoping for a real boy."

"Aubrey your dad loves you and you know it. Has he once said anything about you being gay?"

"No. He avoids the subject. I wish I hadn't come out to them. They pretend to accept it."

"Maybe they do accept it -- maybe it's just you who hasn't accepted it," she said in a slightly annoyed voice.

Aubrey sighed. "How could anybody want to be gay? Accept it! Accept that I belong to a hated group 90 percent of the population. Never!"

Angie shook her head. "Ninety percent of the populous don't hate gays! Most of your friends have or at least would accept you. You have no idea how special you are to a lot of people. Billy knows."

"What! You told him!" Aubrey exclaimed.

"No he told me two months ago. He made me promise not to say anything. He knows how close you and I are. He said it doesn't matter to him. He said sometimes he wish he were gay, but he's not."

"He said that?"

"Yes and Tom and Pascal are definitely a couple so they won't have a problem."

"Yeah, right! They date girls, remember."

"It's a cover up."

Aubrey rolled his eyes.

"Anyway, with my luck he'll be the most beautiful boy in the world and totally straight and totally homophobic."

"You are such a pessimist."

"Yeah," Aubrey said then thought, "But then I won't get my heart broken...Oh, God! Please I beg you don't let him break my heart."

Later that evening...

Aubrey ran up to his room, jumped on his bed and dialed Angie's phone number.

"Come on! Answer!"

"Hello, Aubrey. Hold on a sec," she giggled knowing that he was about to burst. She'd seen his running from his car into the house and thirty seconds later her phone rang. As anxious as she was to hear about his trip to the hospital she enjoyed putting him through a little agony.

"ANGIE!" Aubrey shouted into the phone.

"Just a sec," she answered but could contain a laugh.

"Angie!" Aubrey whined, "You're being mean."

"So, tell me."

"Well, he's beautiful. I mean perfect and he blushed when dad introduced us. Oh! I think -- I think I am in love!" swooned Aubrey.

"Well what does he look like?" she asked.

"He's so hot! A total babe! He's perfect! Absolutely perfect!"

"Aubrey! How tall is he?"

"I don't know he was in bed. His smile is, is ."

"Aubrey, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Huh?"

"Damn boy!"

"What?"

"So, you like him?"

"No. I love him."

"And how does he feel about you?

"Don't know he doesn't speak English, but he said my name and his smile is -- well just never let him go to the North Pole. He'd melt the ice cap if he smiled. Did I tell you he's beautiful?"

"Yes, what color hair?"

"His hair oh, it's perfect sort of wavy blonde. Nice build too. He spoke to me in his own language. It was sooooo beautiful -- his voice was soft -- sort of really sexy and even though I don't have a clue what he said to me -- I think he likes me. He likes me, Angie! He likes me. Dad said, he's never spoke to anyone except in single words and he talked to me like he was really excited to see me."

"What did you say to him?" asked Angie.

"I felt really stupid. I told him I wanted to be his friend too and I would help him to speak English and then he to tell me what he just said."

"Why did you feel stupid saying that? It was from your heart."

"I felt stupid because I wanted to say it in his language."

"Do you think he's gay?"

"I don't know. Probably not."

"Does he have a name other than John Doe, Jr.?"

"Albrich."

A Day of Realization

"I have spent the summer the most beautiful boy in the universe living in the same house. I am totally in love with him. He knows it -- well I've told him so many times but..." my voice trailed off as he, walked into the living room where my best friend, Angie, and I were sitting.

"Hi, Albrich," said Angie.

"Hi, Angie, how are you do-ing?" he asked.

"I am fine, what's up with you?" she replied.

He looked up at the ceiling then smiled. "The ceiling is up but I am not with the ceiling," he replied in his soft voice.

"Aubrey, thank you for sleeping with me. I miss Mordulac." Albrich turned and walked out of the room.

Angie looked at me. I blushed.

"His English isn't that great," I said and sometimes he just phases out. But it's getting better don't you think?"

Angie gave him a look that said, "Why did you sleep with him and not tell me?"

"I heard him crying last night and so I cuddled up with him and fell asleep," Aubrey stated.

"Who is Mordulac?" asked Angie.

I shrugged my shoulders, "His best friend I think. He tells me almost everyday he loves Mordulac and misses him so much."

"So, what happened last night?"

"I heard him crying and went into his room to comfort him. I think he had a nightmare. It's happened numerous times before, he rested his head on my chest, and we fell asleep," I answered.

"Last night though I had this weird dream. I saw Albrich..."

"Oooo," she smiled and wiggled eyebrows.

I rolled my eyes. "No, it wasn't that kind of dream. He was standing on the edge of a cliff looking off into the distance. He was dressed in only a loincloth made of animal skin -- like the Indians used to wear. There was this winged creature coming towards us. I was a little scared and he turned his head towards me smiles and says `Mordulac'. The creature was getting closer. He yelled something at the creature. He turns toward me reaches his hand toward. There was such a feeling of love happiness coming from the creature."

"And what happened then?"

"I woke up. I have never had such a vivid dream it was like I was actually there. Much real than the other dreams."

"Maybe you were there," said Angie.

"Oh, yeah right! It is a gazillion miles from here. It was a dream Angie."

"Then why did you say it was a gazillion miles from here?"

"Figure of speech," said Aubrey but her question made him think. Every time Albrich had woken crying and he had lay down and comforted him. At those times he always had a real and vivid dream. They were always about some aspect of Albrich's life -- somewhere not here. It was some place a gazillion miles away from here.

Aubrey jumped up saying, "Back in a sec." He ran off to his room, then returned moments later with a drawing pad, plopped down on the floor beside Angie, and began to sketch as Angie looked on.

"I don't know why this didn't occur to me before," Aubrey said excitedly, " I remember this scene from an earlier dream like last night."

"A dream with Albrich?" asked Angie.

"Yes. Whenever I have these dreams it's always when I'm sleeping with Albrich; after he's had a nightmare."

Aubrey sketched furiously.

When he was done Angie asked, "What is that?"

"It's..." Aubrey started to say.

"Mordulac!" exclaimed Albrich and then added, "Who is that?" He pointed to the boy in the sketch.

Aubrey giggled, "You."

"Funny. Boy looks like Billy not me," laughed Albrich.

"Albrich, is Mordulac real? Is he from where you came from?" Angie queried.

"Yes," he said softly.

"The dreams, the dreams are real?" asked Aubrey.

"Yes -- No," he said sitting down in front of Aubrey. Slowly he reached over and took Aubrey's hands, and then he looked up until their eyes met. "You, me love," he paused, "I love you. You love me. You see my pictures in here." He gestured to his head.

"Aubrey, your dreams are his memories," said Angie in a hushed voice, "Albrich, are your parents with Mordulac?"

"No. Parents dead. Mordulac put me to here. I not want go to here, but much danger for me on, at Atherton Four. I no go back. My life here now with Aubrey."

To be continued - short chapter huh?
