The Broken Hearted

This story is purely fictional. I am not implying that anyone mentioned in this story is gay or that any of the situations arising are real. I have no connections with Westlife or Ronan Keating.

Five

Ronan struggled to his feet, but the rush got to his head and he sat back down. He looked around the almost deserted bar, his vision was blurry, he strained his eyes to see better... How much had he drunk? he had lost count.

"You look past it, mate!"

Ronan turned his head slowly, "We'll hello there.. 'mate'" he said, tipsily. He lifted his glass slightly in a mock greeting. "Nice to make your aqua-inttttt-anss, but.... I'm going to go no-now" he tried to get up again but he fell back onto his seat, knocking the empty glass to the floor.

"Here, let me help you" the stranger said, pulling Ronan to his feet "I'm Mark by the way". He lead Ronan to the door, his arm holding the weight of Ronan's clumsy body "Can I call you a cab?" he asked

"No... I live up-uptairss" Ronan said, struggling to string the sentence together.

A few moments later Ronan and Mark were standing outside his room. Ronan was fiddling in his pocket to find his keys.

"Here let me" said Mark, he dug into Ronan's pocket and pulled the keys out, brushing Ronan's crotch deliberately. Ronan looked at him, he was too drunk to realise what was happening. Mark led Ronan into the room and closed the door behind them.

"Let me help you get this off" he said, tugging at Ronan's jacket. He slid it off and then started tugging at Ronan's shirt.. Ronan giggled softly as mark lowered his head and kissed him, Ronan kissed him back instinctively, falling back onto the bed with Mark on top of him...

The next morning...

Shane grabbed his jacket and headed for the door. He had tried to avoid any of the guys on his way out, he was in no mood to linger around.

"Hey, where are you going?" Kian asked, shouting from across the hallway.

"I'm going for a walk" Shane replied, without turning around to acknowledge his best friend.

"Wait, I'll come with you"

"No!" Shane said, firmly "I want to go on my own" with that he slammed the door shut and trotted off.

Kian stood staring at the door, his mind was in a frenzy, he hated it when Shane shut him out like this. He had almost forgotten what Shane's smile was like, he had almost forgotten what it was like to hear Shane laugh. "Why the fuck am I so bothered, if he doesn't care?" he asked himself angrily. he knew the answer, he just didn't want to accept it...

"Urggghhh" Ronan groaned, stretching his arms in front of him. "One sec" he yelled, as the knocking became more persistent. His head felt a little heavy after the previous nights excessive drinking. He remembered being helped into the lift, but that's about all.

"Come on Ronan, be quick" Shane yelled from the other side.

Ronan was overjoyed to hear Shane's voice, he yanked his pants up as fast as he could, all the while clambering towards the door. Once there, he stood up firmly, composing himself, before opening the door.

Shane barged in, with only half the door open "We need to talk" he said in his most sincere tone. Ronan shut the door and searched for his shirt as Shane continued speaking "You said you still love me, you do don't you?"

Ronan looked at Shane, nodding intensely "Yes! was all he said.

An exhilarating smile quickly spread across Shane's beautiful lips. His eyes became more alive than Ronan could ever remember seeing them, it made him look like the most beautiful creature Ronan had laid eyes on. Ronan felt his heart skipping, as Shane walked towards him, looking like that. But reality quickly stepped in "But we can't be together" he said, stopping Shane dead in his tracks and causing that perfect smile to disappear.

"But why not?" Shane asked "I love you"

Ronan turned his back towards Shane letting out an exasperated sigh, he didn't know how to explain it to him. He wanted them to be together just as much as Shane did, but it just wasn't possible. He turned around to speak "Shane..."

"Save it" Shane cut in, the anger dominating his tone. He threw a piece of paper towards Ronan "I've got my answer"

Ronan picked up the scrap piece of paper and read what it said 'Thanx for the wild night 'mate', here's my number, gimme a call xxx Mark" It call came back to him, the horrendous event of the previous night, his drunken night of sex with that stranger. He looked up at Shane, words betrayed him when he needed them the most.

"You were never going to tell me the truth, were you?" Shane asked, his voice trembling "I can't believe I fell in love with someone as gutless as you"
