Chapter 6

The next few days just drifted by and I couldn't be happier. Josh always cared for me and took got me anything I needed. He even knew everything that I had trouble with in college and helped me out. The only thing that got me down was I never heard from my family. I think Josh understood that because he became my family in every way. Soon enough we were in a routine that went something like this:

Morning, I wake up to Josh's sweet face and the sweet smell of breakfast. I got to college while he looks up his diary for his shows or appointments with photographers. I get back around 4-5 pm in the evening, most of the time Josh is home but if he's not he keeps cute little notes all over the place just to let me know he's there even if he's not there. We have dinner together and enjoy a perfectly wonderful TV time together after dinner till bedtime. Then we both go to sleep, in different rooms. OK, one down side so far but it's OK.

I woke up in the morning and saw Josh was there again. This was one routine I could get used to. Over breakfast he told me something about not being home in the evening because he had to attend an after show bash for models. He invited me to be his date there but I refused and told him I had to write a report. That was true but the report was due next week, the main reason why I refused that I didn't want to be there. It was a bash for models...I would've stuck out like a sore thumb.

I went to college and spent an average day. Bryan has been keeping me informed about my family but none of them so far have been asking for me. As much as it hurt me, it somehow felt good. It felt good because I thought they were happy and had moved on. I returned home and found Josh's note on the door. It said he's back after about 10 pm and dinner was in the oven.

I was pretty bored since Josh wasn't around so I spent most of the time lounging in front of the TV. I decided to wait for Josh before I went to bed so I sat around watching the late movies and the late, late movies. I soon drifted off to sleep. When I woke up it was already 1 am and Josh still wasn't back yet and he hadn't even called yet. I called up his cell but there was no reply. I got worried sick and stayed awake all night waiting for him.

Somewhere around 6:00 in the morning I heard the door open and found Josh sneaking in. I didn't say anything but watched him go into his room and close the door behind him. It was a Saturday so I just went back to sleep myself seeing that Josh was back home safe. Next thing I know I wake up to Josh's morning cooking but unlike everyday he wasn't singing. I really loved the way he sung in the kitchen tossing the pancake to the lyrics. At breakfast, though things got a little tense for him. He wasn't quite himself and stayed mum through most of it.

"Are you ok Josh?" I asked "Me?" he said looking up to me, "I'm fine. Why?" "Nothing. How was the party last night." "Ah, it was okay. Nothing fun, at all." "Really? Hmm when did you get home?" "Umm, around...ah, around midnight." "Oh, then you probably went out again and came back in the morning around 6:00" "What?" "I was up all night waiting. I know when you came back. So why did you lie? It's ok I'm not your mom. You don't have to tell me when you leave or come back." "It's ...nothing. I've just been...out. I have to be somewhere...I've got to go."

He got up and left the apartment. I could tell he was stressed but from what, I had no idea. We usually spent weekends doing things together. But today he was gone for most of the day and didn't return till after 3:00 pm in the afternoon. Usually I didn't care where he went or came back from but today was different. I needed to know what was eating him.

Most of the time he would tell me everything even if I didn't ask him to but today he just...he talked as if he was hiding something. Which was again okay, but not when it was bothering him so much. He returned home in the evening and was really tired. I got him some coffee and we both sat down to talk.

"Where were you all day?" I asked again "What! First you tell me you're not my god-damn mom and now you're demanding answers." "I'm not 'demanding' answers. I just asked..." "You asked and you just expect me to answer to your every pesky question?" "I...I'm sorry."

I knew he was really pissed but I wasn't the one he was angry at. I decided to let the questions be at the time. But I couldn't stand looking at him so mad and taking it out on me. I got up and walked towards my room.

"Joe wait! I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that." he said looking really sorry "It's okay...now can you tell me what's wrong with you?" "It's really nothing...ok, maybe it is. Please don't hate me." "Why would I hate you Josh? Come on, tell me." "Last night at the party I got really, really drunk and stupid." "That's what parties are for..." "Well that's not the only thing I did." "O...k...what else did you do?" "Do you know Britney?" "Spears?" "No...she's a friend of mine..." "Oh right, you told me quite a lot about her, what happened? Is she ok?" "She is...I think she's more than okay. You see, last night we both got drunk. Since I was too drunk to ride my way back she offered me a ride in her car since she was at least sober enough to drive." "That was nice of her..." "Will you please lemme finish." "Sorry! So what happened?" "Well, long story short, we ended up fucking each others brains out."

THE MESSAGE SENT TO ME:

ALRIGHT EVERYONE, lets do this !!!!!! We need those of you who are great at forwarding information to your e-mail network. Please read and pass this on. It would be wonderful if 2004 were the year a cure for breast cancer were found!!!! This is one e-mail you should be glad to pass on. The notion that we could raise $35 million by buying a book of stamps is powerful!

As you may be aware, the US Postal Service recently released its new "Fund the Cure" stamp to help fund breast cancer research. The stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland. It is important that we take a stand against this disease that affects so many of our mothers, sisters and friends.

Instead of the routine 37 cents for a stamp, this one costs 40 cents. The additional 3 cents will go to breast cancer research. A "normal" book costs $7.40. This one is only $8.00. It takes a few minutes in line at the Post Office and means so much. If all stamps are sold, it will raise an additional $35,000,000 for this vital research.

Just as important as the money is our support. What a statement it would make if the stamp outsold the lottery this week. What a statement it would make that we care. I would urge you to do two things TODAY:

  1. Go out and purchase some of these stamps.

  2. E-mail your friends to do the same. We all know women and their families whose lives are turned upside-down by breast cancer. It takes so little to do so much in this drive. I think we can all afford the additional 60 cents the new book costs.

Please help & pass this on.
