It Really Hurts The End

A very lonely Mrs. O'Leary, Jerry and Paul, arrived at the O'Leary house, they went in and sat in the living room, they started to talk about the services, Jerry was thinking to himself, that he had not seen Mrs. O'Leary cry since Mike passed, it was something that he did not understand, it had finally gotten the best of him, he started to say something when Mrs. O'Leary, after years of watching Mike suffer through this disease, the knowing that it was only a matter of time, only at the end, to finally have the love that he kept hidden come out, he had suffered so much, to see this happen when he had finally had found his true love, was more than she could handle, she broke down and started to cry, she stood, ran from the room.

Jerry seeing her break down, was moved to tears himself, he put his head in his hands and let loose.

Paul walked over and knelt down in front of Jerry, pulled him close, he put his head of his shoulder, said let it all out, he just held Jerry tightly, he wrapped his arms around him, was softly rubbing his back saying, it will be alright, he took Jerry's head in his hands lifted it up so he could look in his eyes and said, Jerry I know that you are hurting, I am too, but we need to be strong, we need to help Mrs. O'Leary, it is going to be very hard for her and we need to be here for her.

Jerry half smiled and took a deep breath and said, yes you are right, you and I can suffer through this together, Mrs. O'Leary, has no one. I think we should go and comfort her. Jerry stood, wiped the tears from his face and took Paul's hand pulled him to his feet and said, lets go see if we can make mom feel a little better, then they headed for her room.

There were standing outside the bedroom and listened as Mrs. O'Leary pour her heart out, her was really hurting, the boys decided that the first and most important thing was to help her through this.

Paul knocked on the door and said, may we come in! There was no answer. He opened the door, stepped into the room and said MOM.

Mrs. O'leary jumped up and screamed, Michael?

Jerry said , no mom it is Paul and I, may we come in?

Mrs. O'Leary sat up on the side of the bed, she looked at the boys and said, I am so sorry , I should have waited until you left.

Paul smiled and said, then you would have waited a long time, we are not leaving until all three of us have mourned and have moved on, if it is a week fine, if it is years, than so be it, I am sorry but we are not going to allow you to be alone, we both loved Mike and we feel like part of the family, you accepted us with open arms, our arms will be open to you anytime you need us.

Jerry said to Paul you go home and let your folks know what we are planning to do.

Paul said my mom left when I was 3, dad has been working so much I don't think he even knows he has a son any more, but I will do that now. He turned and left the room and was headed for home. When he got there his dad was sitting and watching TV, Paul told his dad what he wanted to do, his father said, wasn't that the gay boy I heard about, Paul got very upset and said, Yes dad it was, I loved that gay boy and he loved me, he loved me more than you, I don't want to be here any more, I am going to stay with his mother for a while because she needs me. His dad said, then go I will do much better with out you anyway, you are the reason your mother left, maybe that gay boys mother will love you, I surely don't, I was hoping you would leave long ago, pack your stuff and get out. Paul had tears in his eyes and said, I will, and just so you can think about what you have done, I am gay, you fathered me so you deserve what you get. He walked into his room and took most of his cloths, his bank book that was given to him by his grandfather with the trust fund he had set up for Paul. Paul walked past his father, opened the door and as he was leaving he said, no dad, you are the reason mom left, then he closed the door. He went out, and with tears in his eyes, he called Jerry and asked if he could pick him up.

Jerry answered the phone and said, I will be right there, about 15 minutes later Jerry pulled up and saw Paul sitting on the curb, he pulled up and got out and saw the tears in Paul's eyes and asked, are you OK.

Paul wiped away the tears and said, I am now, lets go home.

Jerry said Paul I will not be able to do what you just did, I hope you understand, I still love my parents and have missed them the past week.

Paul said, Jerry I understand, you have to understand that I will see more love with Mrs. O'Leary than I have seen from my father in the past 10 years.

They arrived at the O'Leary house, they got out and together brought Paul's things in, Mrs. O'Leary had regained her composure, was sitting in the living room when the boys came in, Paul waked up to her and said, I do not have a place to stay, do you think I could stay here?

Mrs. O'Leary stood and hugged Paul and said, of course it will do us both a lot of good, I will not be so lonely and you will have a place to stay.

Paul said, oh there is just one thing I have to ask.

Mrs. O'Leary said, what is it?

Paul with a single tear running down his cheek asked, can I call you MOM.

Mrs. O'Leary started to tear and pulled him to her, they stood there for about 5 minutes just hugging each other, they broke the hug and Mrs. O'leary said I accept that under one condition, only if you let me call you son, I think Mike would like that.

The day ended, Mrs. O'Leary went to sleep knowing that she was not going to be alone.

Paul went to bed knowing that he finally had a place to live that would be filled with love.

Jerry went to bed because, he was tired, he missed Mike terribly and he wanted to be able to start a new life with Paul.

Paul woke up about midnight and felt a little strange, he looked over to his left and he saw Jerry sleeping soundly, his head next to his shoulder and his arm on his chest. He smiled and thought, Mike you are a stinker. you planned this for a long time, I hope you know how happy you made me. He took a deep breath and looked at the foot of the bed, he thought he saw a vision of MIke just shaking his head yes, Paul looked as the vision faded, then said quietly, Thanks Mike, I will always love you.
