I pulled in front of Michelle's house because we are going on a picnic and out she came looking like a redneck's dream dressed in a red checkered short sleeved blouse, cutoff shorts, cowboy boots and her red hair is up in a ponytail. She jumped up into the cab of my pickup came to the middle of the seat and kissed me. All of a sudden on the radio Randy Travis started singing his song Better Class of Losers and she started dancing in the seat and singing along.

I was shocked and amazed as she sang along to this song and as it ended she had this big beautiful smile.

She said," You caught me I have a redneck side in me. I like Randy Travis and I love that song. Oh my I love that John Deere cap."

I asked while pulling away from the curb," So have your parents accepted you as their daughter?"

She replied," Yes and no."

I asked," Yes and no?"

She said," They have come to terms wth me being their daughter. Another thing my aunt showed me that there was nothing wrong with being gloriously unsophisticated as Jeff Foxworthy would put it. My parents still haven't come to totally accept that side in me."

I said," No offense but it would seem to me for parents it would be easier to accept the redneck side than their son is no longer their son but their daughter."

She said," You don't know my parents. They are both educators, my dad is a high school science teacher and my mom is a middle school teacher. Both give appearances of being refined and I am a little hard for them to handle and no I do not take offense to that."

I said," Well, I have to say you are a redneck's dream of a woman."

She said," That is the nicest thing a man has said to me. When I was still in Boulder I had a very short lived relationship with a man."

I asked," How short?"

She said," Two dates, when he came to pick me up for my second date he saw that I had Teladega on T.V. and he didn't say one word he just left."

I said," Well, what can you say he is in the closet."

She asked," In the closet?"

I said," He is a closeted redneck. I think he was afraid that if he stayed he being a redneck would be out in public."

She started giggling uncontrollably and said," Closeted redneck I have to remember that one."

We got to the base of Carter Mountain and we spread out the blanket and Michelle surprised me

again she brought out a radio tuned to the country music station.

She said," I thought some music with our lunch would be great."

We brought out some fried chicken and cole slaw and biscuits and put them on the blanket.

She said," I do love the view and that soft summer breeze is so nice."

I said," Yeah, the only time I plan to move is in a black box."

She said," You are a little morbid but I can see why and I am not planning to move either. Now John you never told me about what your parents think about you."

I said," From the time I was a freshman in high school they had visions of me going to college. I kind of disappointed them by not going. I think they are happy that I am working steadily and not in jail."

She asked," Were you a little wild?"

I said," Slightly, the one redeeming value was that I am willing to work."

She smiled and said," I think if you said you weren't a little wild in high school I would have been a little disappointed."

We ate in silence for about a minute than she said," You remember the aunt I have been telling you about? Her name is Aunt Beverly and she is coming into town for a visit I think it is for a couple of weeks. I told her all about you and she wants to meet you."

I said," Meet me? There is nothing that impressive about me but if you want me to meet your aunt sure."

Well we finished up our lunch and we spent the rest of the afternoon by Carter Mountain. As the sun started to set Michelle was leaning up against my shoulder.

She said," John I think I am falling in love with you. I have never had these feelings about anybody."

I said," To be honest with you I am having feelings for you that I have never had. I don't know if it is me falling in love with you."

Before we knew it it was 10:00 and I knew we better get heading home.

On the way Michelle said," John, the past couple of weeks have been like a dream come true."

I said," You know what Michelle you are one spectacular lady no matter how you started life."

Before we left the gravel road for the 2 lane highway I noticed Michelle had fallen asleep on my shoulder. 20 minutes later we were in front of her house.

She stirred and said," Are we here already?"

I said," Yes we are."

I walked her to her door and we kissed in front of her house and than she went in and closed the door.

I got back in my truck and pulled away from the curb on the way back home.

On the way home I started pondering am I really falling in love and is this how falling in love feels?

I would not know the answer until about our fourth date and yes we do eventually make love but you will have to continue reading the story.
