Well, I just broke up with my girlfriend for the 4th and last time. This time it is about my hunting. I can't believe how clingy she can be.

Oh my name is Mark Williams I live here in Dubious, Wyoming Her name is Emily Robinson and she moved here from California and we met the Outlaw Saloon.

One day after doing a guide tour on horse back for tourists I went inside to have a 2 or 3 bars. She saw me and I guess she was impressed I was wearing my broken in stetson faded my wrangler brush popper shirt, my faded wrangler jeans, my Justin ropers and I still haven't removed my spurs yet. She was and still is a good looking woman. She sat down beside me.

She said," Hi, cowboy where do you work?"

I replied," Highland Creek Guest Ranch."

She said," Are you a real cowboy?"

I said," Well, I was raised around horses and spent more time in the saddle than walking."

She giggled and said," I guess you are a cowboy."

I told her ," I've been accused of it and how can I help you."

She asked," Well do you have anything against showing a new girl a good time in this town?"

Shortly after our 1st date I moved in with her and she just couldn't accept my lifestyle so now I'm through with her. She couldn't understand me coming home dirty and smelling like horses. If I came home later than she wanted me to she would pitch a fit. She can't stand it when I go hunting, this is who I am I got the last few possession's out of her place and in my pickup and I'm going back to the ranch.

I am a man of free will like the bald eagle that soars high above the cliffs.

Before I left she called me everything in the book but a white boy but i couldn't care less. Buck Taylor the head ranch hand back at the guest ranch said he has my place ready for me back at the ranch.

45 minutes later I arrive back at the ranch and there is Buck to greet me.

Buck says," I see you got that foolishness out of your system about living in town."

I said," Oh I did, that was the biggest mistake of my life moving in with Emily. She tried to change everything about me."

He said," I know I told you she would, she came from a life that doesn't understand the way we live. Now don't get me wrong there are women who do understand,. There is Todd who is married to Becky, The difference with Becky is she has been exposed to guys like us before marrying Todd, and all she did was settle Todd down a little bit he doesn't drink as much and is a little more civilized that works well at this ranch."

I said," Yeah, I know but I think I am done with women I like being single."

Well two months went by and we had a surprise we had another guy start working at the ranch and well let's just say that my life has changed 180 degrees.

I came back to the bunkhouse, took my hat, my boots, and went back to the bedroom. The bedroom has beds and two dressers and a long closet, sort of like a college dorm. It was early evening and we had already fed and watered the horses and got them brushed so we were done. I was napping before supper when I heard the door open. I saw this man who looked like he was in his early 30's come in. He stood about 6"3" and I guess about 198 lbs.

He said," Hi, I'm Tom Watson and I just got hired on here and I guess I will be bunking with you. Oh you don't have to worry about wet nursing me, I'm not wet behind the ears or no greenhorn. I worked at the Y Hanging H Ranch until it was bought by a foreign conglomerate. So I got hired here

I replied," I heard about that well than that is your bed right there the dresser is across from that and we share the closet."

After he unpacked we were told it was time for dinner,so we headed up to the dining area.

Well we found out that there wasn't going to any guided tours tomorrow.

Tom asked," So is there any good bars around here/"

I told him," I go to the Outlaw Saloon you want to go?"

He said," Sure, let's go, you lead the way since I'm new here"

Well it was Friday night and when we got there the place was hopping with mostly local folks and you heard Chris Ledoux singing Cadillac Ranch on the jukebox. I said hi to all the guys I knew and than headed up to the bar. Tom and I ordered our beers and took our seats at this table at a distant corner and started talking to each other just to getting to know each other. I noticed right away we had a

lot in common growing up on ranches and being more comfortable on horseback than walking. We laughed at each other's stories, he really got a kick out of my last and final breakup.

He said," You mean to tell me you lived in town with a girl who has known no other life than suburbs, what you went insane or something?"

I said," OK I confess temporary insanity."

We both broke up laughing, laughing so hard our sides hurt.

Next thing I know one of the guys I knew walked over to our table.

I said," Red meet Tom he just got hired on the Highland Creek Ranch."

Red said," Let me guess, he is one of those green horns right?"

Tom said," Well I guess the jig is up he figured me out."

We both busted up laughing at that joke.

Tom said," No seriously, I came down from the Y Hanging H Ranch since this ranch is still family owned."

Red said," I know that outfit up in Glendive."

Tom said," Yep that is it you got it right."

Red said," Well Tom I am sorry, and welcome to Dubois. Hey, Mark I like this guy. Tom, did he tell about that foolhardy thing he did?"

Rom said," About living with that woman in town? He told me already."

Red said," Good, I'm glad he did I was afraid I would have to clue you in on it."

Tom said," Yeah he did lose his mind didn't he?"

Red said," He didn't lose it it just went down south." He was pointing down towards his dick.

Tom really laughed at that one.

I looked at Tom and said," You handled him well I think you will fit in well in this town."

Tom said with a wink," You forget what kind of person I am, I'm like you, Red. These are my kind of people."

I said," Yeah you're right."

Tom said with a grin," If you attempt to something that stupid again Ill slap you upside your head."

I said with a wink," If you are man enough."

Well we kidding around with each other like that all night, when all of a sudden it was 1:45 a.m. and the bartender was saying last call for alcohol. With that Tom and I got up and headed towards the truck. After starting it up we headed back to the ranch. We got back to the ranch around 2:30 a.m. we climbed into our beds after stripping down to our underwear and went to sleep. This was going to be a friendship that I was going to cherish I could tell.

Well, we woke up the next morning around 6 and we padded towards the dining hall for breakfast. After we got our breakfast we sat down at one of the benches and started eating. This morning the guest are eating with us, so there were some guests sitting at our table. After making small talk, Tom and I started talking to each other.

He asked," So what are we going to do since there aren't any guided tours today?"

I said," You, I and a few other guys are going to muck out the stalls and barn. That will probably take about 3 or 4 hours there isn't anything else that has to be done because we already went over all the fences, so we will be free the rest of the day. I'll probably get some beer from town and enjoy it at the bunkhouse."

Tom said," I know I won't make much money today but that is fine with me."

I told him," Weekends we usually work shorter hours, tommorrow will more than likely be a shorter day trips."

We went out and mucked out the barn and we were done by 12 it took us a little longer than I thought but that was alright, we joked with each other while doing it.

Well, we went and ate lunch and after lunch Tom and I pulled up to the window of the liquor store.

I asked," Will Bud be all right with you?"

Tom said," Beer is beer man, you are paying so I'll drink it."

I said," Good man, Can you get us a couple of cases of Budweisers.

Attendant says," That is 2 cases of Budweisers, that will be $25.50 please."

I gave him $30 and he gave me $4.50 change and we head back to the ranch.

We talked and drank beer until about 6 than we go up and eat supper. We come back down to the bunkhouse and drink more beer and talk some more until we go to bed.

. I know this story is going slow but bear with me it will get better I p promise. This story is not meant .to depict real people or events and also I no longer live in Wyoming even though I did go to Dubois quiet a bit. I live in a town now called Marion,Michigan it is about 15 minutes southeast of cadillac.
