Route 66 Tour Chapter 7

The rest of the week was uneventful. We both had things to do and A.J. wanted to visit the Schusterman Center at the Tulsa Campus of The University of Oklahoma as well as the campus at Tulsa University and Oral Roberts University.

Part of the time we went our separate ways and other times we visited the college campuses together. It was amazing to me. When I was in college you had to go to the university in the town where it was located. Now you can attend about any school where you want to go and not have to leave home to do it. With the Internet and branch schools all over the country, it was possible to get a degree in about anything from anywhere.

None of the schools were far from where "our home" was and except for parking and getting inside to a class, you could be on any of the three campuses within 20 minutes.

A.J. finally decided on 2 classes, one which met at the University of Oklahoma on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 11 and the other at Tulsa University from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons. His actual practice teaching wouldn't start until January, but he was welcome to observe any classes he chose to attend. He was to interview potential supervising teachers next week. One taught at Will Rogers High School and the other taught at Memorial High School.

We talked about a different place to live, as certainly my apartment was not large enough for two men to live in. I had three rooms of furniture stored. I really didn't want to store it, but knew it would not bring much at a sale and I certainly couldn't replace it for what it had originally cost. I told A.J. that, quite frankly, I wanted not to have to take care of a yard. Well, I hadn't really thought that through. "I" didn't want to take care of a yard, I guess it was okay for him to do it or we could hire someone else to do it. And yet, I knew in the bottom of my heart that if he decided he was going to take care of it, that I would be right out there beside him, helping.

And. if it cost us a thousand dollar penalty to move out, then so be it. It wasn't as if we couldn't come up with the money. I guess I'd gotten into the "me" mentality as to what I could or should afford by myself. With two of us sharing, it was a whole different story.

The housing market was still good, even if the job market wasn't. It was a mystery to me how the economy was strong in some areas and not in others. The stock market sucked, but some stocks hadn't been hurt at all. Neither of us were up on the economy. I didn't have money to risk and I was sure that the financial advisors for the McDermott family had their investments isolated in things that would not fail.

Other than being crowded, we quickly settled in; probably happier than most newlyweds. I thought about most "traditional couples" adjusting to marriage and wondered if two men didn't have a big advantage over them. This was a "dark area" as far as I was concerned. I had no idea what they had to go through to get used to living with each other. But I could guarantee that we probably had better sex. Now that would be an interesting "human studies" class to take, wouldn't it?

We usually talked to Laura twice a day, and for at least a half hour each time, both of us on the speakerphone. After about the third day I realized that A.J. probably hadn't had any contact with his parents since picking them up at the airport.

I asked him about it.

"You also need to notice that they haven't called me," he explained.

I hadn't thought this question through.

"The entire six years I was in college I think my mother called me twice and one of those was to tell me, 'In case you missed us, we went to Hawaii for a week.' I hadn't missed them and grandmother had already told me they left on a spur of the moment because some friends of theirs from the country club were going so mother could play bridge and my father could play golf. The other time she called me was to tell me that they had decided to go on a Mediterranean cruise and she had promised to take grandmother to the beauty shop the next morning, which was a Saturday and that she couldn't do it.

"Again, grandmother had already called me to say that one of her friends could take her. I wanted to spend the weekend with her anyway, so I went to her house that afternoon and stayed until Sunday night."

I could tell that A.J. had a lot of hostility bottled up, whether he knew it or not. I also wondered why his parents had four children. A.J. said that they had always had a live-in lady who cooked, cleaned, ran errands and saw to it that the children were where they needed to be on time. Was this a case of giving birth and then assuming no responsibility? I hadn't met any of his family yet, but I wasn't sure I wanted to. Had I married into a totally screwed up family where there were only two sane members - A.J. and Laura? It certainly seemed that way to me.

Well, I had the experience to make this work - and it would as long as I had a chance to show my love for A.J.

In our conversation with Laura on Friday evening, she told us that she had met with her attorney and the two financial advisors. We were summoned to a meeting at her house at 10 a.m. on Monday morning.

'Oh great,' I thought. 'We get to worry about this all weekend.'

We had a great weekend and some of it seemed to revolve around activities in the "little room around the corner" a/k/a known as the bedroom. Now I'm not saying that we hadn't had a great time the previous three days, but it was hotter on the weekend - and not just for air-conditioning purposes

There couldn't be any way that a new bride and groom could be happier than I was.

Saturday morning we decided to take a "day trip" and we took U.S. 412 and the Cherokee Turnpike to Springdale and Fayetteville, Arkansas. The campus of the University of Arkansas is beautiful. Hilly and not crowded together like so many schools. We ate lunch, then drove on to Ft. Smith and back to Tulsa on I-40 and the Muskogee Turnpike. The day was perfect, weather wise, and it was nice to get out of town and just see something new.

Sunday morning we attended the solemn high mass at my parish downtown. A.J. was impressed with the men and boys choir (augmented by 9 women) and was enthralled with the use of incense. That was something they didn't do at his parish in Oklahoma City. Well, I'd been told that my parish was a "liturgical oasis in the middle of the desert" and it was true. There just were not that many Episcopal Churches that were "high church" anymore. A priest friend had told me that the difference between "high church" and "low church" was spelled "L-A-Z-Y" and he was right.

We went to brunch after mass with friends from church. Charlie was there and was surprised to see A.J. again. He had a funny look on his face as if he didn't believe we were there together. He was too polite to say anything at the table, but after we paid our bill he pulled me aside.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"Oh, A.J. decided to move to Tulsa and take some more post graduate classes at the University of Oklahoma and Tulsa University. He's living with me," I said proudly.

"I'm sure that's just a temporary situation," he said.

"Why don't you talk to him about that? I think that you could safely say that we are 'newly-wed lovers'." I hated to gloat, particularly because if it hadn't been for Charlie and the "Route 66 Tour" I would have never met A.J.

"Well, I'll be damned," he said.

"Hey, Charlie, if it hadn't been for you wanting to take this trip last week, this wouldn't have happened. Thanks a bunch," I said, kissing him on the cheek in front of the whole world.

He was appropriately embarrassed.

I loved it.

The group of 6 men broke up and we went our separate ways.

A.J. and I arrived back at our apartment and decided to change clothes and go to one of the parks for a long walk. Well, it didn't quite work out that way. Something happened while we were changing clothes and it took about 45 minutes to fix it. Then, for some reason, we slept about an hour, so were late getting to the park.

It was warm enough that there were a lot of almost naked joggers on the pathway that seemed to be shared by everyone. Runners, joggers, bikers, skateboarders, skaters and those of us at the very bottom of the pecking order, the walkers.

We walked completely around the parameter of the park, a distance of about 3 miles. Most of the time it was a pleasurable experience, but from time to time everyone seemed to hit the same traffic snarl at the same time. We quickly found that it was best to step off the path and find a bench to sit on for about three minutes. By that time it had cleared and we could be virtually alone until the next gaggle of humanity caught up with us. I had a hard time believing that others weren't smart enough to step aside until the snarl cleared.

The next morning was Monday and I woke up at 6:30. I hadn't been dreaming after all, someone was sharing my bed. He was handsome and hairy and he loved me as much as I loved him. It was wonderful just to lie there and look at him. However, I just couldn't leave well enough alone and had to rub my hands over this hunk. It didn't take long for him to start to wake up.

I don't think there is anything sexier than watching a young man wake up and realize the world is still there. One eye came open. I couldn't resist, I had to run my tongue around his mouth. Surprise!! It opened and didn't seem that either of us had "morning breath" so we were quickly into a full blown kiss, rubbing our bodies against each other, squeezing and feeling each other all over.

Finally A.J. said, "Hon, I really need to go pee if this is going to be fun."

We flipped the sheet back and both went to the bathroom. My toilet was in a place that we really couldn't pee at the same time, so I brushed my teeth and washed my face while A.J. was relieving himself, and then he did the same as we traded spaces.

Back to bed. He lay on his back, indicating that he wanted me to lie on top of him and I was only too glad to do so. We both seemed to be hard immediately. Arms and legs entwined, enjoying the feel of each other's naked body, we rolled on our sides, facing each other. We pulled apart slightly so we could give nipples some stimulation. A.J. hadn't had any problems with his piercing and new ring, so I decided that we could replace it with the one he had purchased, the lighting bolt like I had. But that would be later in the morning. We had something much more important which had come up between us.

Then we rolled again, this time with me lying on my back and him full out on top of me. I hoped he was getting off rubbing against each other as much as I was.

Without me realizing the venue was changing, A.J. starting kissing me all over my face, then worked his way to my ears, which seemed to be a very sensitive spot for each of us. Then, running his tongue down my jaw and to my throat, I could feel my cock twitch and knew the precum was starting to leak from my cockhead. I wanted to perform the same ministration to A.J., but he wasn't allowing me to move at that point. What did I do? Lie there and enjoy it.

Pinching, licking and lightly biting my nipples, he was moving on down my torso, his nose buried in the thick fur between my pecs and following the trail to my navel. I realized that he was starting to work around so I could reach is lower regions and we soon had the opportunity to nose around the other's groin. He smelled good. I took my left hand and squeezed his shaft slightly and was rewarded with a big dollop of precum leaking from his cockhead, buried inside his foreskin. I couldn't wait and ran my tongue inside, around the glans and drank what seemed to be a teaspoon of that delicious clear nectar. There was just a hint of smegma. God, it was too bad we couldn't figure out a way to bottle this and sell it. We could become millionaires.

I buried his cock in my throat, using the muscles at the back to massage his cockhead while I tickled his balls. As I pulled off, I stuck my index finger in the side of my mouth to wet it, then teased his asshole. He did the same to me, then I could feel his tongue working its way back down the outside of my cock shaft, then around my balls and to the perineum. This guy was starting to play for keeps.

I abandoned his cock to give him what I was getting. It worked because he started bucking around on the bed. This guy was fun to play with. It didn't take long to loosen him up, then he started begging me to get inside him.

"Uhmmnn, put it in me," he was almost panting.

I was only too happy to oblige him and he rolled on his back as I reached for lube and a condom. I decided right then that we should get tested today. I knew I was okay and that he should be, too, but we couldn't take that risk until we were sure. After all we were "married" now and I was sure it would be a monogamous relationship. But that wasn't my concern at the moment.

I put the nozzle of the KY tube to his ass lips and squeezed to put some inside his channel, then used one, two and finally three fingers to loosen him up. As I withdrew my fingers, I cleaned them on my lance and added a little more before rolling the condom on. More KY and I was ready.

A.J. pulled his legs up and was holding them just above his knees, then slipped them over my shoulders as I moved into position. I pushed slightly, the cockhead breeching the sphincter muscle then I could feel him wiggling around, pushing himself down my shaft. I soon could feel my balls touching his hairy butt.

"That's it," he whispered. "Now, fuck me!!"

I withdrew slightly and could feel him immediately slam back into me. Okay, he really did want it, didn't he?

We had performed this ritual enough times that I knew he was likely to cum without either of us touching his cock; the stimulation of his cock by my belly rubbing against it while we fucked usually caused him to cum at the same time I did. I started to lower myself onto him so we could kiss as we copulated. This wasn't what he wanted. His legs moved around my body and he locked his ankles behind my butt cheeks.

"Really fuck me!!!" he panted.

I rose back up and started slamming into him and he met every thrust with one of his own. I could feel a tingle starting somewhere behind my cock and knew it wouldn't be long at this speed and depth of my strokes. Sure enough I felt my cock twitch and A.J. must have, too, because I could feel his muscles tightening around my cock.

He started making noises - of pleasure, I assumed.

"Give it to me!!! I want to feel you cum!!!" he was almost yelling.

That's all it took and I gave it up, filling the condom. He erupted almost at the same time and I thought his sphincter muscle was going to sever my dick. I don't know how many times he pulsed while cumming, but it seemed like more than I had ever felt before. We were both panting and I collapsed on his body, our mouths searching for the other.

He lay like that for what seemed like a long time before I could feel my cock slipping out and he released his legs.

"That was incredible," he whispered as he pulled his mouth from mine.

"You are incredible, you are great, I love you," I replied.

We slipped around with me still lying on top of him. He must have shot a lot of cum because it was like our stomachs and chests were covered with slick oil.

We lay quietly for quite a while, nuzzling each other, exchanging little kiss pecks and enjoying being with each other.

Finally I heard the clock striking. It was 7:45. Wow!! This had gone on for an hour and seemed like we had just returned to bed.

I rose up. I hate to end this, but do you realize that we need to be on our way to Oklahoma City in about 45 minutes?"

A.J. suddenly snapped to being fully conscious. "What time IS it?" he asked.

"The clock in the living room just struck 7:45," I said.

"Oh my gosh!" was his reply. "We've got to get moving."

"I know, but I'd almost risk missing the meeting to do this again. You were fantastic."

"You were the one doing the fucking and I don't think I've ever cum that much before. It felt like a gallon was trying to force its way up my tube all at once," he said.

By that time we were both in the bathroom. I stripped off the condom and started to throw it in the toilet.

"You didn't do so bad yourself," he said proudly as he pointed to the condom. There was more than just a little bit in it - a lot more.

"You caused it," I said as we locked together for another kiss.

He started his clean up routine while I went to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee and pour orange juice for us.

We got in A.J.'s car and were on our way to Oklahoma City exactly at 8:30. After we were on the Turner Turnpike and out of traffic, we held hands.

"I want to get tested for HIV as soon as we can. I don't think we have anything to worry about, but there is no reason to take the risk before we know for sure. I don't know about you, but I want to feel bare skin in my ass instead of a hot rod encased in latex."

"I was thinking about that while we were having sex this morning. Let's get it taken care of right away. If we get tested today or tomorrow we'll probably have the results by the end of the week."

We were at Laura's house with less than 10 minutes to spare. There was a gray Cadillac on the driveway and we parked next to it.

A.J. had barely inserted his key in the door when Laura opened it. Even in casual clothes, pants and a silk blouse with a scarf, she looked regal. She grabbed my hand and seemed to pull me through the door, giving me a hug and a kiss, then did the same to A.J.

We walked into the living room.

"David, I'd like you to say hello to my attorney, Herbert Flowers."

We exchanged greetings. Then he shook A.J.'s hand.

Laura continued but I sensed she was a little agitated. "Herbert needs some answers to a few questions and some information I couldn't provide."

I wasn't sure about this. Did Herbert have bad news, or was he telling Laura to leave everything alone and me to leave A.J. alone. I wondered if we were going to like the outcome of this meeting.

A.J. and I sat on the love seat, across a coffee table from Herbert and Laura. We were holding hands, probably for supporting each other and what we were going to hear in this meeting.

"David," Herbert said, "I'm really pleased to meet you and I appreciate you and A.J. running over here this morning. Laura wants to get some plans in motion and this is the best way to do it."

That statement made me feel better - immediately.

"Laura has briefed me on what is going on with the two of you and I'm here to help her settle some affairs regarding her will and disposition of property. As you may realize, she has a considerable estate and I'm helping her make some plans which will make it easier to carry out her wishes when the time comes.

"She has indicated that you moved to Tulsa last spring and that you are currently renting an apartment, is that right?"

"Yes, I took a years lease to get a better rental rate."

"When does your lease run out?"

"Next April first," I replied.

"Have you looked at property to buy yet?"

"No, I was waiting until a little closer to the lease expiration and then, if need be, go on a month-to-month with a 30- day notice."

"I suggest that you start looking as soon as possible," he said.

There was a long silence. I didn't know how to respond.

Sensing my silence was because I was confused, he continued.

"A.J. and you are living together in Tulsa, aren't you?"

"Yes."

A.J. squeezed my hand and I returned the gesture.

"You are both part of this, and I'm sure each of you have an interest in where you will be living. I have a friend who sells real estate in Tulsa. His name is Doug Reynolds. I'll give him a call after we finish here and let him know what's going on."

A.J. spoke up. "Herbert, that would be great, because I certainly don't know where this is leading."

"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess that I'm getting ahead of myself. Laura wants to help the two of you buy a house and has authorized me to transfer $450,000 to you fellows to accomplish this. That should be enough to buy the property and then renovate it to suit your needs. You know, like replacing plumbing, heating and air conditioning, a new kitchen. Whatever it needs to make it yours."

I was glad I was sitting down.

"Doug specializes in older properties and we thought he would be a good person to work with you. If you want a new house, there is another person in his firm that he will refer you to, but based on what Laura has told me, I think you are probably more interested in a nice, older home. Am I right?"

My mind must have been like a tornado at that moment. All of my thoughts were spinning together, out of control, and I wasn't sure about anything. $450,000?

"Uhhh. yes." I was grasping for words. "I think older houses have a lot more character. I don't like most of the new places. The rooms are too small and chopped up."

A.J. nodded, not saying anything.

"Good. Laura told me that you will have about a thousand dollar penalty for breaking your lease, so I think you boys should be able to afford that." He chuckled.

"Yeah." Still a little confused. "It shouldn't be a problem.

A.J. was sitting there, seemingly as stunned as I was.

"I'll transfer the money to an escrow account at her bank this afternoon. When you've found what you want, just have the contract sent to my attention and I'll handle all the legal work from that point on."

"Laura, are you sure about this?" I asked.

"Never more sure than anything I've done for A.J. already," she said. "There should be enough to buy a nice piece of property and then repair, remodel or whatever needs to be done to make it ready to live in. Just make sure there's a place for me to stay when I come to visit."

"I don't know what to say. except that I'm grateful to you and thankful, too. And. you can be assured there will always be a room for you."

I was wondering what else this little lady had up her sleeve.

"You are more than welcome. I know you fellows are in love and I want things to be such that the two of you don't have any financial worries. A.J. hasn't been happy with the job interviews he's had so far and I can't think that he will enjoy teaching unless it's on a college level. He's talked a little bit about owning his own business, but he always enjoys traveling, too. We've done some checking on you and everything you have told me is true. You have money to get by on, but not to do anything much more than survive."

"That's right," I agreed.

"A.J. has money that will take care of his needs for the rest of his life. If you and he are interested in either starting or buying a business, I'll help you with that, too," she said.

"Again, that's very generous of you," wondering what A.J. was thinking about this.

Herbert had been quiet, but started talking again.

"Laura has asked me to come up with a plan that involves each of you. Now there is going to be a fund set up for you, David, and you will have the use of the interest each year. In the provision for this is a disclaimer that if you and A.J. should decide your relationship is not going to work and separate, then the income will stop.

I was stunned. What a meeting this was turning out to be.

"Laura, are you sure about this?" I questioned. "He and I hardly know each other and although I love him and think this can work, aren't you jumping the gun?"

"Maybe," she replied. "But, I think you are going to be good for A.J. and if you are both sure about this, then let me do what I can to help both of you."

"I. I don't know what to say," I replied.

"For now, just say thank you and promise me that you'll take care of him. He isn't demanding and he's really somewhat innocent. He's always been very mature for his age and has been a joy for me to have around."

A.J. was sitting there with a funny look on his face, too.

Herbert then added, "I'm going to draw up some paperwork and we'll get the accounts set up in the next day or two, but you and A.J. should have roughly the same amount of income each year."

The figures were spinning around in my head. 'How much were we talking about?' I wondered.

He continued. Right now interest rates and investment returns are way down, but you fellows should have at least $300,000 each, before taxes, on an annual basis. That doesn't touch the principal account."

Geez, I couldn't believe it. My life had turned every which way this past week and I thought it was going to take at least a month before my feet touched the ground again.

"I really don't know what to say now."

Laura said, "I do. Welcome to the family as my second favorite grandson. But you don't have to call me 'granny'," she laughed.

"Laura, you have done so much. I'm going to have to digest all this. If I don't seem properly grateful, it's because I'm speechless."

Both Herbert and Laura laughing.

"We'll let you regain your thoughts and sort them out," Herbert said, then added, "I will have some paperwork for you to sign and some signature cards for some bank accounts. I suggest that you get your own attorney to look things over and explain anything you don't understand. It's pretty much straight forward and the only thing is termination of income in case you decide you can't live together - kind of like a divorce," he said.

I could almost hear the "smile" in his voice when he said that.

A.J. hugged me.

"I know it has to be this way, grandmother, but we're going to see to it that it doesn't happen." Another hug, which I returned.

Then Herbert added, "I think all of us need to get together late next week to finalize the legal issues here and get this process completed right away."

"That will be fine with me. Maybe by then my head will have stopped spinning," I laughed.

Herbert said, "It has been my pleasure to work this up for Laura. I'm sorry we had to rush getting this started, but I'm leaving next weekend for a few days and Laura was anxious to get this plan underway."

"Laura, thank you so much. I love you for making all this possible for us," I added, directing the conversation to her.

"You fellows are going to be great together. Just love each other and know that I love you, too."

"Thanks. We will and I know you do."

A.J. addressed a question to Herbert. "How is this going to effect my parents and the rest of my family?"

"This is Laura's own money and doesn't impact the business in any way at this time. We still have to rewrite her will, but that is an entirely different matter at this point."

"I guess that I need to talk to my parents about what's going on?" he asked.

"A.J., there shouldn't be any problem, but if you want, I'll sit down with them and Laura and you and David next week. I think maybe the best thing right now is for you to introduce him to your parents without going into any great detail at this point."

"Okay. Maybe we can do that after lunch. I'll call right now to see if they are available."

"Good idea. I don't expect any problems, but I'd really like to get paperwork drawn up and bank accounts set up before we tell them what is really going on."

"Thanks, Herbert. A.J. stood up to shake hands with him as Herbert stood. Laura and I stood up, also, and A.J. gave her another kiss and hug. She reached out her hand for me to join them.

All of us thanked Herbert as he went out the door and left. As we started to sit back down, Laura said, "I think this calls for a celebration. A.J., there is some cold champagne in the refrigerator, why don't you get it out?"

He headed to the kitchen and returned with a bottle of Korbel Brut, getting it ready to open. He popped the cork and poured three flutes of the golden nectar, handing one to each of us.

Laura held up her glass. "To my two grandsons. May life be a wonderful experience for the both of you together."

We said, "Thank you" and "Cheers," touching our glasses together, sipping the golden liquid.

I spoke up. "Laura, I can't believe what just happened this morning. Your attorney certainly moves quickly.

"Actually I talked to him before you went back to Tulsa on Tuesday and told him to get started on this. What he has done so far is pretty simple. Rewriting my will is going to be a lot tougher job and we'll have to bring in our two friends who are the family financial advisors. The three of them should be able to figure out the way to handle everything without causing anyone any problems."

We sat there, sipping our drinks and each of us must have been in our own thoughts as it was quiet for a couple of minutes.

A.J. came back from using the phone in the kitchen. "Dads at his office and Mom already had a luncheon set up so she could impress all her friends with the details of their trip."

Laura laughed. "I'd love to be a fly on the wall and hear all about it. I'm sure they didn't go to a single museum, concert or play. They probably ate in some great restaurants and wondered why they couldn't get a decent steak and baked potato."

All of us laughed.

"I shouldn't criticize my own son and his wife, but A.J. and I took one trip with them and it was the last. We went to England and they got along pretty well because they speak our language, but they were totally lost when it came to sightseeing. We finally left them at the hotel and went on our own. His mother found a bridge game and his father found an appliance store and that kept them amused the rest of the afternoon. We had a grand time at the museums."

We visited and finished the bottle of champagne. I needed something to eat because coffee and orange juice was all we'd had and that had been almost 4 hours ago.

"Laura, would you like to join us for lunch? I don't know where we're going, but I think it's time we all had something to eat."

"Yes, I would. A.J., how about that good Mexican restaurant out on the Northwest Expressway?"

"That would be good. I haven't been there for a long time."

I took the glasses back to the kitchen and we were ready to leave. We got outside and I realized that we were going to have to make do with a 2-door model. I climbed in the backseat and we left for the restaurant.

After lunch we started back to Laura's house and A.J. asked if she needed to do any errands.

"No, I'm fine until later in the week. Betsy took me last Friday."

We arrived back at Laura's all standing on the driveway giving her our hugs and kisses.

"You boys drive carefully and call me when you get to your apartment," she told us.

"We certainly will," we replied almost together."

A.J. unlocked the door and took her inside. I was just getting back in the car when he came back out. We started off for Tulsa and the real beginning of our lives together.
