This chapter is short as I decided to end it at a significant point. The final chapter is longer and more complex.

Prologue

"Paul, I haven't had a time like this for two years." He stopped to look meaningfully at Paul. "Thank you so much."

Paul asked himself if that was just a thank you or did it have more meaning? That was all they said but each promised to themselves to give this a lot of thought. There was kiss as Paul dropped John off. Both had to admit to themselves that they felt a little bereft as they left each other. Neither was sure exactly what this weekend meant or where it would lead. Both decided to step back, reflect and absorb what had happened in the last few days. No plans for a time together was mentioned but both knew that they would see each other again.

Present

Both Kevin and James noticed the look that passed between John and Paul the next day in John's office. James had put things together. He knew that both had been away from the city and he realized that they had somehow contacted each other and arranged this meeting on Monday. He didn't believe in coincidences that they happened to know where the other was. He saw and recognized the new confidence in Paul and somehow John was different.

They were astounded by the detail that Michael had been able to put together in such a short time from his examination of the computer records. There appeared to be dummy companies that sales were made to and no indication of goods or services received by the firm. He had traced some of the transactions that had been sent to an external IP address and then deleted from the company records. He managed to trace the address to Mark Everton. The transactions had started slowly and then slowly grown over the last year. He estimated thousands of dollars, actually into the tens of thousands. Then he reminded them of memos sent by Mark Everton of explanations, using the slow down in the economy to account for lower revenues. The really awful part of it was that Mark was a good friend of Kevin's from University days whom Kevin trusted. He also shared a lot of personal time with him and his family.

Kevin was very sober as they discussed possible courses of action. Luckily, the company's investors were Kevin, Dave, his partner, Paul and Brian. There were bank loans but that was not a problem.

They decided on calling Mark in with Kevin, Paul, John and Michael present. Just before the meeting there was to be a network problem and all the computers were going to malfunction and go off line so that Mark would not have a chance to close files, delete or send any files to another address. As the meeting convened, Kevin ordered their computer supervisor to take Mark's computer out of the office to a secure site.

The meeting was as difficult as all had expected. The atmosphere changed from welcoming into the office, to incredulity, to accusations and then to threats by Mark. Michael at one point spoke asking about a company to which several thousands of dollars had been paid. He stated that he could find no such company and could find no record of those goods being received. Mark blustered and accused Kevin of stabbing him in the back. Michael didn't back off. Firmly, he asked about another company to which money was paid but nothing delivered. More bluster about not remembering that kind of detail. Mark was becoming increasingly threatening with legal action. He stood up as if to leave.

Everyone looked at each other not knowing what to do. Suddenly, Paul spoke up for the first time. His voice was calm but like cold steel, hard and unyielding. "I wouldn't do that Mark if I were you."

"Who the fuck are you anyway?"

Paul recognized the point that they had arrived at. Mark had nothing else that he could say. He wanted out to collect his thoughts and to get to his records, probably to attempt to tamper with them. Paul decided that a little shock treatment might be needed.

"In case you have forgotten, I am one of the fuckers that own this company." He paused and saw Mark stop and tense. There was no movement by anyone in the room. All eyes focused on Paul. The only noise was the hum of computers and office sounds outside the room. "It appears from the information presented that you are stealing from me." He wanted Kevin off the hook. "So far you have given nothing to negate the data we have presented. Your office computer is now out of the building and in the hands of other people who can find even more secrets. You have a decision and we have a decision. Do we involve the police and the legal system? With this evidence do you realize how much the lawyer fees will be to fight this? Michael is one of the top forensic analysts at the top forensic accounting firm in the country." Perhaps a slight exaggeration. "Don't give me any bullshit about you being the poor innocent. Either you ran the accounting of this company incredibly poorly and mismanaged the accounts or you are thief. One puts you out of job; the other puts you in jail."

All eyes, which were wide, now shifted to Mark. The silence in the room was remarkable. He stood thinking with his eyes shut. He finally sat and put his head in hands. Paul suspected that there were tears and he signalled no talking from anyone. Eventually the story unfolded, a family living beyond its means, some jealousy and feelings of superiority to Kevin

Later, Paul and John left the room. They reached an office with no one in it. John guided Paul into it. He stood very close to him as he turned to face him with a faint smile on his face. "You are scary. Remind me never to upset you and never to argue with you in a court of law. I have seen few such masterful performances in my life." He held up his hand to stop his protest. "Earthy words when you had to get his attention. You used the phrase that it appears that you have done this and then forced him to refute Micheal's findings, laying out Micheal's excellent qualifications. Brilliant. Then you outlined his stark choices. Then you let silence take its course. I repeat brilliant. I always want you on my side." John was very close to Paul. He held him by the shoulders and looked intently at him. It was quite intimate. They heard movement behind them and John stepped back. James, Kevin and Michael were standing behind them.

"Just congratulating Paul on a masterful performance." It was true and very seamless. James and Kevin concurred but both were thinking that more was going on than that. Michael was incredibly impressed.

They had previously decided that they would not go the prosecution route. Too expensive and time consuming. They wanted Mark gone with as little fuss as possible, with no bad publicity for the company and nothing to distract them from managing the company during this time of economic downturn. Mark had left, handing in his keys, accepting that he would return the next day to sign papers for his leaving the company. James and Kevin would meet with him.

After Mark had left the building, they were all getting ready to leave.

Kevin turned to Michael, "Thank you so much for the excellent work that you have done. Your report was meticulous. You must have put in a lot work in this weekend."

"My job and not much else to do this weekend."

Kevin cocked his head. "You were excellent at the meeting but you have seemed subdued the rest of the time. Hope all the work didn't cause any problems?"

"Bad weekend." He had a determined, stark look on his face. Kevin paused, his look asked for more information.

"Oh just a little personal matter. I kicked my partner out this weekend. I caught him sampling greener pastures."

"Michael, the guy must be crazy. We have really enjoyed working with you. You have it all."

Michael just shrugged his shoulders and sighed. "Well, it appears that Tim doesn't share your excellent tastes." He smiled a very wry smile.

Looks were passed between Kevin and James. Kevin looked at Michael. "Join us at the club on Friday night. I know that we are old farts compared to you but we can have a drink and dance. Hey, you might find some stud and get lucky." There were little chuckles and off colour comments. "We won't take no for an answer. It's only one night." They set a time and the place to meet, James' condo and they would all go together from there.

When James and John had left, Kevin just looked at Paul. "Paul you should give courses. John is right; you were masterful. I hope that I learned a lot over the last weeks and especially today. Thanks." Paul gave him a big hug.

The next weeks seemed to fly by. He had been to Robbie's for dinner several times and had been to several of Jason's soccer matches. He had joined the guys and had a great time with them and Michael on Friday night. John had a business obligation. He had some evenings with James and Matt. There had been several events with the group of guys that John had introduced him to and he was really enjoying his time with them. John and Paul saw each other with the group but neither even alluded to the weekend at the cottage. Both were still taking stock. There had been several evening events when obviously one of the options was to pair up with someone. Paul left early on these nights by himself. He was still thinking and none of them really connected with him in the way he wanted, well with one exception. He didn't want to spoil John's opportunities on these occasions; so he just left.

One night after some cards and few drinks, he was getting ready to leave as usual when John approached him.

"You are leaving early again?"

"It's not early. It is almost midnight. Time for bed."

"No one to your liking? I have noticed that you are not choosing that option."

"Done a lot of thinking on that subject."

"Care to elucidate me on your conclusions."

"Wow, counsellor, big words for this time of night."

"That is standard avoidance technique, on your part."

"First, I think that I may have noticed that you seem to have adopted the same pattern, my friend." He paused looking at John. Paul continued, "Yes, I have reached some tentative conclusions." He paused again looking as if he were weighing his options. "Might make an interesting conversation over a scotch of your choice at my place."

"Best invitation I've had in a while, about 3 weeks." Paul looked as if he were calculating something.

"Let's go"

John asked for Langavulin which was becoming his favourite.

"Good choice." They chatted for a few minutes about the week.

"Paul to the subject at hand. Your thinking regarding a certain subject ...."

Paul paused obviously trying to sort his words. "John, I have come to the conclusion that I am a one person man. If I find someone who excites me physically but also interests me intellectually and emotionally, I don't want to dabble. I did that in my early years and found it very unfulfilling."

"So either you have found someone or no one in the group interests you in that way."

"Absolutely, counsellor"

John started to chuckle which ended in a good laugh. "You really are a piece of work. You would have made one hell of a lawyer. OK!" He paused looking at Paul. "No one in the group interests you."

"Not my conclusion."

"Paul, we may have come to the same conclusion." They looked at each other, wondering if the other would break the stalemate and take the lead.

Finally, Paul looked at John. He had decided to leave himself open. "Would you like to stay the night? I'd like to show you who interests me. I only hope .... Actually it doesn't matter whether we are on the same wave length. I still want to show you."

"I told you earlier that I haven't done anything for 3 weeks. Since the cottage actually. I made up my mind a couple of weeks ago. I guess we are very slow thinkers."

"Or we have respected each others lives. I didn't want to stop you from meeting other people if that is what you wanted."

"Paul don't be so damn selfless." John stood up. Paul tried to stand up at the same time. John stepped forward quickly to stop him. "No! I have been waiting for this for more than a week. I have plans."

Paul could see that John's eyes had that intense look to them. His mouth had just the trace of a smile. John leaned over and kissed him. It was a very intense kiss. When it ended, John let his hands slide gently over Paul's chest and down to his pants. He ran his fingers over the significant bulge and then finally, slowly lowered the zipper. He spread his pants open as wide as he could. Suddenly his mouth was sucking at him through the material. In seconds, it was totally wet showing his erection in a wet outline.

He stopped and looked at Paul whose eyes were closed. They slowly opened. "So far I like your plan."

John manoeuvred his pants and shorts off him and used his mouth to lick and suck. Paul moaned a lot. His eyes really opened when John stood and slowly took off his clothes in a strip tease. He even turned with his back to him before he removed his shorts and then turned slowly around with his erection bobbing with his movement. Paul could only nod in appreciation.

"Lube?"

"Right bedside table, top drawer."

"Don't move. Remember, I have plans." He returned. Paul had taken off the rest of his clothing and he was sitting with his legs spread wide and arms spread back against the sofa, leaving himself wide open. John was even more excited by the sight. Standing in front of Paul, he put a lot in himself and then on Paul. He then knelt over Paul and put his cock at the entrance and sat down, letting just the head enter himself. He stayed and put his hands down and behind, stroking Paul's cock below the head and his balls. Again Paul's eyes closed in pleasure and he whimpered. Without warning, John sat down all the way quickly with a gasp of pure pleasure. John's eyes were closed engrossed in the wonderful feelings that were travelling through him. He felt Paul reach up and pull his head down into a kiss. Eyes now open, they looked at each other for a long time.

Paul spoke first. "I dreamt about you last week. It was a very sexual dream. The feelings were not as exquisite as this but I woke up very messy." He pushed the head slightly more into John and smiled.

"Several times in the last weeks, in the words of someone I know, I had to take action so I could sleep. You were the star of my very vivid scenarios." John contracted his muscles around Paul's pulsing erection.

They were both processing what the other had revealed and what it meant. John reacted first and started to move up and down. That was all it took. They were engaged. There were hands on chests, nipples. There were cries of pleasure and pain as they pinched and sucked each other. Paul's hand found the lube and then John's very erect cock. He started to tease the head and used his fist to stroke him. Paul followed John's rhythms, fast, slow, hard, long or short. Both lost track of time. At last, Paul yelled that he was close and John replied that he was as well. Suddenly, John, breathing hard, shot out his first shot onto Paul's stomach. The contractions pushed Paul into his orgasm. He had tingles in his legs and groin and then bolts of pleasure. John could feel Paul shooting into him. The both wondered why they were always breathless after they finished. John collapsed into Paul's arms around his body. When Paul finally softened and came out, John sat back on his legs and took in the sight. There was semen on himself, on Paul's stomach and some had come out of John onto Paul's legs.

"What a wonderful mess! I am always fascinated by the sight. I hope that you don't find that strange."

Paul held up his hand on which he had a lot of John's cum and licked it clean. Then he kissed John. "I hope that answers your question."

"Actions do speak louder than words. Let's just climb into bed. I'll get a washcloth while you close up."

John cleaned Paul up and Paul did the honours for John. They lay in the after glow of a surprising evening of revelations to each other. Tomorrow would be soon enough to sort through it all. They slept touching each other and woke the next morning with John's arms around Paul. Each were hard but they agreed to get up, have breakfast and talk.

Paul broached the subject. "I guess we said some important, surprising things last night. Well said in words and actions."

"If you are asking if there are any regrets, there are none for me. I certainly didn't want to damage a friendship but I hope that this makes it deeper and more complex."

"Counsellor, you do have a way with words. Can we go slowly and carefully for a while? I need to feel my way through my complex family."

"That still sounds like a commitment to me. I like it. Can I just get all the expectations on the table? You don't like to dabble. You are the one with a way with words as well. I assume you don't want a partner who dabbles."

"John that is up to you. I don't want to tie you down if that is not your style but yes, I want to know the limits so that there are no misunderstandings. Your friendship is too valuable to me."

"I came to my conclusions a couple of weeks ago. That is why I raised the topic last night. You and me only, until one of us wants something else. Are you going to tell your family and I know that involves Kevin and James as well? You, by the way, are a very lucky man."

"This conversation makes me even luckier. With your permission, in my own time and way to the family. I suspect that Kevin and James have an inkling and they may very well say things to Robbie." John nodded his agreement. "Want to seal the deal?"

"You really are a horny bugger!"

"You bring out the best in me."

The deal was sealed in a time honoured way over the next hour. It was slow but very intense. John stayed the weekend. After John left on Sunday night, Paul stood in front of the wonderful picture of him and Brian. There were tears of sadness but more of happiness. "Thank you, love, for making this possible. I still think of you everyday. Miss you."
