Chapter 30

As I walked into the COD, I noticed it was very well appointed. Cloth, padded seats all facing forward, not even close to the last COD I had had a ride on. With its web seats facing back.

A steward stepped out of the cabin in front.

"You look a little surprised Commander."

"Well the last time I was on one these aircraft it was a lot less comfortable looking."

"Well they have made a few improvements. Would you care for any refreshment?"

"No thanks."

As soon as I was seated, the door was closed and the aircraft started up. A few minutes later we were rolling and in no time were in the air. The plane Captain came on the speaker.

"Welcome aboard Commander. The flight will be about 3 hours. The South African Air Force are escorting us part way and then Raptures from the Pearson will meet us for escort the rest of the way. If you need anything just ask the Steward."

I wasn't really sure an escort was necessary, but whatever. I loosened the seat belt and adjusted the seat back to catch a couple of hours sleep. Just a little warn out from the day.

I don't know how long I was asleep, but was wrenched awake when the aircraft made a sudden turn and dove. It felt like I was on a runaway high speed elevator. The speaker from the Cockpit was still on and I heard.

"MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY. This is Charlie, Charlie Alfa 32, under attack by unknown aircraft. MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY."

I still felt the aircraft diving and jinxing around the sky. I put my seat back up and pulled my seat belt tight. Then grabbed the phone to the Cockpit.

"What the fucks happening?" I almost yelled.

"Sorry Sir, but we are being attacked by what appears to be 6 Mig 32's. The SAF have peeled off to intercept. Were heading for the deck."

"How soon can we expect help from the Pearson?"

"Not less than 30 minutes Sir. Were still 300 clicks from the coast."

"Shit. I have to wonder what brought this on, if I had a guess it's Sudan."

"There's no markings on the aircraft Sir. Can't talk now."

I felt the aircraft lurch to the right and then left. It then pulled up almost into a stall before rolling almost inverted as it dived again for the ground.

"Damn that was close, almost got us."

"Sir there is no way we can outrun these guys. I'm hoping I can get close enough to the ground to get lost on their radar in the ground clutter. But its going to be close."

The aircraft again lurched sideways as the pilot dodged and jinxed to throw off incoming missiles. One exploded close aboard and plane seemed to stand still and then again rolled over and dove again.

"We've been hit Sir. Lost some of our tail. Very hard to control now. Too much damage to get back on board. Don't think we can even make it to the sea."

I looked out at port hole at the left wing. I could see several holes in the wing and one was streaming fuel.

"Captain your also loosing fuel."

"I am going to have to try and put her down in the desert. Before I loose engine power."

I got out of my seat and went up to the cockpit. The co-pilot was fighting the controls to keep the aircraft level. The pilot was just holding tight to the yoke to keep the aircraft straight, while he looked for a place to set her down.

"You really think you can land her Captain?"

"Won't know until I try Sir. But the landing gear should be able to handle it. It's made to withstand carrier landing, so should hold up if there is no hydraulic damage and I can get the landing gear down."

"Okay the other problem we have now is that we only have UHF radios so their only to the horizon and were way off our original course. So even if I get us down it could be while before were found."

"But the only good news is that were no longer being pursued. They were probably short on Fuel. Okay Commander I suggest you go strap yourself in, no arresting cables here, so this is going to be a very rough landing."

I went back and strapped in. I told my two security officers what was happening. I saw the Steward strap himself in and pull the straps tight. I did the same. I heard the landing gear come down. I heard.

"Okay three green on the landing gear."

I heard a high pitched whine. I looked out and could see the flaps trying to move.

"Shit no flaps and probably no thrust reverse. This is going to be one hot landing. Okay give me the speed."

"180, 175, 170. Fuck were coming in way too fast. We'll never stop this bird before the landing gear gives out."

I felt the aircraft pull its nose up almost to the point of stall.

"140, 130, 120, 100, shit we're slowing too fast, get her nose down, get her nose down."

"Wait.....wait...yeah now."

The aircraft leveled and then touched down. I looked out the port hole and could see dust billowing from the landing gear. We seemed to be traveling like a bat out of hell. The sand acted like a brake and just before we stopped the nose gear collapsed. Plowing a furrow in the sand. As soon as the aircraft stopped the steward unbuckled and popped the hatch. I unbuckled and headed for the cockpit. The copilot had smashed his head on the instrument panel and was out cold. The pilot was bleeding from his nose where it had connected with the yoke. I helped him out first and then started to unbuckle the co-pilot. One of my security officers pulled me out of the way.

"Get out now Sir. I'll help the co-pilot."

When I tried to protest.

"Sir your safety is my concern. Get out of the aircraft now. That's an order Sir."

When I turned the other Security officer grabbed me and pushed me to the hatch and then out of the aircraft.

.................

?

?

"ATTENTION ON DECK."

"Commander Sadac Arriving."

Benji stepped out of the helicopter. A line of white clad sailors stood at attention. The high pitched squeal of a Bosons'' pipe broke the silence. An officer stepped forward.

"Welcome aboard the San Francisco Sir."

"Thank you. But I'm just Ben." he stopped realizing is wasn't going to be any use.

"I'll escort you to the Bridge Commander."

Leading the way the Lt. lead Benji to the Bridge. Upon entering the Captain stepped forward.

"Welcome aboard Commander. I know you prefer to be just called Benji. However circumstances dictate that I only refer to you as Commander. I have to inform you that Commander Brin Sadac's aircraft was, we believe shot down while he was enroute to the NAS Pearson. We, meaning, the NorAm armed forces don't at present know his location or his condition. However I have been informed that a full search and rescue mission is underway. Units from both the South African Forces and the Navy are presently searching along his flight path. If the aircraft was forced off their planned flight path, then it could be a while before we know anything. It will mean there is almost 2 million square miles to search. Belief me Commander we will find him."

Benji just sagged into the chair next to him. The tears started down his face.

"No! No, no."

"Commander....Benji. Were doing everything possible to find him."

Benji got up and ran to the wing of the bridge. He stood and looked out at the smooth sea. The Captain walked out and just stood next to him.

After several minutes.

"Captain what's our present speed and how soon will we up to the Second Fleet?"

"At present speed Commander 22 hours."

"Increase to flank. Also in form Admiral Masterson I will need transport for 4 back to Kinshasa."

"But what of the operation Sir?"

"The operation goes ahead as planned. The only difference is I won't be on the Saint Peter. Brin, my love, my Commander rescued me. Now I'm going to rescue him."

The Captain turned and entered the bridge and ordered to the San Francisco to maximum speed.

Benji walked back onto the Bridge.

"Can I have someone show me to my quarters please."

"Sgt at Arms show the Commander to my Stateroom."

.............

?

We were able to pull the co-pilot out and lay him under the wing of the Grumman. The plane Captain only had a broken nose which we were able to set. I wasn't sure of the co-pilot, I thought he might have a concussion. We broke out the survival gear. It was fairly extensive, considering it was set up for a full load of the aircraft. We had plenty of water and rations. The only weapons we had were the ones carried by my security officers and me. We had flares too. We set up camp under the wing to stay out of the sun. The temperature had to be in the high 30's.

"Okay Captain. What about the ELT?"

"It's on Sir but again it is only UHF, line of site to the horizon. The aircraft was not envisioned to crash in the desert so we only have what would be required in an ocean landing."

"Well I guess were lucky, we have plenty of water and rations."

As the sun went down we all just sort of found a place to sleep. The Co-pilot was still out and I was becoming some what worried about him.

At sunup I was prodded into wakefulness by someone pushing a boot into my side.

When I became fully awake, I saw the muzzle of a weapon 6 inches from my face.

"Good morning Commander."

I swatted the weapon aside and tried to sit up. The weapon was returned to my face and a foot held me down.

I heard several words been spoken in a language I didn't understand. The weapon was removed from my face and I was allowed to sit up.

When I sat up I saw about twenty armed men surrounding the aircraft.

"You know who I am?"

"Yes indeed Commander. You are Brin Sadac. Commander of the most powerful security organization in the world. Sudan has placed a 2 million dollar bounty on your head. But I think maybe you are worth much more than that. But these others have no value to me."

With that statement he walked to the others.

"Captain, you did very well to land your aircraft, to save all your men and passengers. But to no avail."

The leader pointed a pistol at the Captain and shot him between the eyes. He then executed the co-pilot, the steward and my two security officers.

God would not help this man if I ever got out of this alive.

They tied my hands behind me and then blindfolded me. I was pushed into the back of a carrier. I figured I was in the hands of one of the Somolian Warlords. The fact that he had Armored Carriers made him one of the more powerful ones. The trip was very long and very rough. When at last they stopped I was dragged out of the carrier and pushed into a cell. My hands were untied and the blindfold removed. The cell was just four walls of bars. I was so tired and so thirsty I just slumped on the floor. I awoke to the scream of what I was sure of someone young in pain. A guard placed a canteen of water in my cell along with a plate of food. I almost drained the canteen and then ate all the food. It tasted terrible, even rancid, but being hungry I just ate it anyway. Sleep then overtook me again.

When I awoke the second time the cells around were all empty. Where the fuck was I . Looking at the cells around me I could tell that they were being used. Mats were on the floors and small items were present. I stood up and stretched. The armor I had on was itching like crazy but I was determined not to let my captures know I was wearing anything other than just fatigues. It might come in handy later. I don't know exactly how long I was in the cell, but what seemed like hours a guard came in motioned me to stand. I was cuffed again and a hood was placed over my head and I was lead outside. The heat hit like a brick wall. After being dragged across a compound I was pushed into another room and my hood was removed.

"Ah Commander. Good you see you again."

I was pushed into a chair in front of a very ornate desk. Behind it was sitting the Warlord.

I just looked at him.

"Welcome to my temporary home Commander."

"And where might that be?"

"It is of no concern to you. Tomorrow we will move you to Mogadishu. To my headquarters. Here I don't have the necessary communications to submit my ransom demands. I think I am going to sell you to the highest bidder."

"So Warlord and Slave Lord."

"No. no you misunderstand me. Sudan has offered 2 million NorAm dollars for you. I think probably your own Corporation or some of the World Powers will pay more. I will just wait for the largest amount. You will be treated well, unless you attempt escape."

"Now I have other business to take care of."

He spoke several words to the guard. I was pulled up and led back outside. They didn't bother with the hood. Again the heat hit me hard. What I saw when I was lead outside was a very large compound with several large and very modern looking buildings. There also seemed to a helicopter pad. There were a large number of trucks and armored carriers, plus several tanks. The tanks looked like T-99's, but definitely very old models. I was lead to a building set off by itself. Pushed through the door, un-cuffed and then left alone.

The room had a bed, a couple of chairs, a table and a small bathroom. It appeared to be air conditioned as it was cool in the room. The windows were all barred and when I looked out all of the compound I could see was mostly blocked by a line of Armored Carriers. Not a bad prison, but a prison none the less. Did I dare strip and take a shower. If they came in while I was in the shower they would definitely take my armor away.

I decided to wait.

Less than ten minutes later a guard walked in. He pointed an AK-47 at me and motioned me to stand back. Then another guard escorted what I was sure was a very young man into the room. He only had shorts and a T-shirt on. He placed a tray and several bottles on the table and then scurried from the room. He never once looked at me, but his face was one of sheer terror. The guards then simply left. I heard the door being locked and I was left alone.

The first thing I did was grab a couple of the bottles and opened them and poured there contents down the drain and the refilled them with water. I drank one down completely. I had to keep my self hydrated. Looking at the plate of food it was mostly fresh fruits and a couple of slices of thick dark bread. I ate several of the fruits and tried the bread. Despite being very dark, it was quite good. I drank another whole bottle of water.

I sat down to think.

Foremost in my mind was where the fuck was I? Could I be in one of the processing camps. That boy was definitely scared. But which camp? Obviously not Mogadishu. Maybe Tombasa or Himcosha. I just might not be as alone here as I had first thought. Some of Kimbo's commando's could be watching the compound right this minute. But how to find out? No chance of that. And I was not going to here very long. Definitely not until Sunday, when the assaults were planned. Well I figured I'd wait a while to see if I was going to be disturbed again. As the sun was setting I decided to chance a quick shower. I removed my boots and then took my socks into the bathroom and washed them. I closed the door, quickly stripped naked and showered. Climbing out of the shower I couldn't see any towels so just donned my armor and uniform wet. I was still uncomfortable but, at least I had been able to rinse off the sweat. And had still retained my armor. I laid down on the bed after downing another full bottle of water. I fell into a very fitful sleep.

I was awoken by the sound of a helicopter landing. I put my boots on and waited.

A short time later the door was opened and again I was told to move back. A boy brought in another tray and set it on the table. This one was dressed like the other, but I could see marks on his legs and neck, not unlike some of the ones on Benji when I found him. This boy had obviously been whipped or beaten. He kept his eyes down. Picked up the tray from the evening before and quickly left. The guards just left. I didn't hear the door being locked. When I looked out I could see both guards standing by the door. The tray held the same as the night before. Fresh fruit and several slabs of thick dark bread. I ate some of the fruit and all the bread and then washed it down with two full bottles of water.

I sat down to wait.

After a while I heard what I thought was laughing, but very guttural laughing. I got up and quietly moved to the window. Looking out at an angle I could just see a young man on his knees. It was pretty obvious what he was doing. He was being forced to suck off the guard. The guard held him by his hair and was ramming his cock in and out of the young mans mouth. Shortly the guard obviously blew his load into the young man. He pulled back and stuffed his cock back into his pants. He uttered several words and the boy stood up trembling. When the boy hesitated the guard slapped him. The boy undid his shorts and let them drop to the ground. The sight of the boy turned my blood to a boil. He had been whipped, not just whipped but beaten all over his young body. The second guard came up and forced him to his knees and then forward onto his hands. The guard pulled out a large uncut cock and just lined up on the boys ass and drove into him. The youngster screamed at the intrusion. The guard fucked the kid with out mercy. He just grunted as he came. He pulled out and grabbed the boys hair and forced him to suck and clean his cock. After he was done they just pushed him away ordering him in words I still didn't understand. The boy quickly grabbed his shorts, put them on and then scurried away. I was just livid. As I stood there shaking with anger, I saw the Warlord approaching. I stepped back from the window and sat down. He walked in.

"Good morning Commander. Sleep well?"

"Okay I guess."

"Good. Now we will go to my Headquarters."

He just turned and walked out. I followed and the two guards just followed behind.

As we walked across the compound toward the helicopter pad I noticed a lot of young men working.

"You seem to have an awful lot of young men working here." I commented.

"Yes, mostly indentured. Petty criminals that have been ordered to work off their time, rather than go to one our jails. They find this easier than our jails. The jails are very bad."

"I see."

"You don't approve? Believe me many of these young men would not survive in jail to finish their sentence."

I kept quiet as we approached the helicopter. It was an old Bell 209. Very old.

"It doesn't look like much, but it is in perfect working condition. Otherwise I would not fly in it." he laughed.

We climbed aboard and I strapped myself in. Just before the pilot started up three young men in hand cuffs were led to the helicopter and pushed into the other seats.

"They have finished their terms and will soon be released." he said.

I looked at the boys. All had their heads down and all were crying. Being released? I didn't think so. But kept quiet. It didn't seem to bother the Warlord that he was showing me some of his operation. Maybe he really didn't intend to release me at all. Just collect the ransom and then dispose of me. Well if I was right. He was in for a major surprise. The Loyal Eddies were due to assault the camp in Mogadishu. If they found out I was there, they would have no pity for anyone. God would not help them. What ever God they believed in.

The flight was very long and boring. Nothing but desert.

............

?

The helicopter from the Jackson deposited Benji on the deck as the sun was rising. No formal proceedings here. The Jackson was doing what aircraft carriers do, day in day out. Take off and landings. Benji was quickly escorted to the Bridge.

"Welcome aboard Commander. I wish it was under better circumstances." Admiral Masterson said.

"Any word Admiral?" Benji asked.

"No. I'm sorry nothing yet."

"I have laid on a COD to take you to Colombo in Sri Lanka. There a special missions Icarius will fly you anywhere you wish to go. The flight to Sri Lanka will be about four hours. I hope by then we will have some word as to where Commanders Brin aircraft went down."

"When can I leave?"

"When ever you are ready Commander."

"The sooner I am back in Kinshasa the better. Now would be fine Admiral. Thank you."

Benji was escorted down to the deck and onboard the COD. His three security men were already on board. The plane Captain came back to talk to Benji about the take off.

"Commander have you ever being on an aircraft that's catapulted off a carrier deck?"

"No Sir."

"Strap yourself in tight and keep your head back on the head rest. We will be going from zero to about 120 knots in under 3 seconds. Your going to feel real heavy as were catapulted off. Just relax Sir. We've done it hundreds of times."

Benji and his three body guards did as had been told. The plane started up and after several minutes slowly taxied to a catapult. He heard and felt the engines spooling up to almost a scream. Then abruptly his whole body was pushed into the seat as the COD was catapulted off the carrier. No sooner were they off and the pressure let up and he looked out the window to see the grey/blue water of the ocean dropping away. Moments later the plane Captain came on the speaker.

"Commander we will be traveling at 25,000 ft at 400 knots. Our ETA in Colombo is about 11:30 local."

Benji looked out the side window again. Barely 20 ft off the left wing sat an F-32 Rapture. A Steward walked in.

"Would like anything to drink or eat Commander?"

"A coffee and a sandwich would be good thank you."

"Fine Sir."

Benji then just looked out the window again. The Steward noticed where he was looking.

"They will be with us all the way Sir."

"They?"

"Yes Sir. One on each wing plus two more ahead and two behind in high cover. The Admirals orders Sir."

"I need to thank him."

"I don't think that will be necessary. The whole fleet knows where we are going and why. They know you now better than some of their own shipmates. And if shipboard rumors are true they are itching to get at the mission."

"Now I know I will need to thank them all."

The Steward left and returned with coffee and sandwiches for everyone. After eating Benji just adjusted his seat back and closed his eyes. Not sleeping just thinking. He was sure he wouldn't sleep again until his love was safe and back beside him.

A couple of hours later Benji sat forward abruptly.

"Do you have a satellite phone I can use by chance?"

"Yes Commander." the steward immediately got up and brought him one.

Benji punched in the numbers for the Burundi Command Post.

"Command Post, Colonel White Sir."

"Colonel, this is Commander Sadac."

"Yes Sir." no hesitation, no anything but a cool calm voice.

"I want General Israel, General Mayes and General Rarog in the Command Post by 1300 to day."

"General Mayes and Rarog won't be a problem Sir but General Israel is presently about 200 clicks away leading an assault on the Sudanese forces before Wadi Salem."

"Can you have him in radio contact at that time?"

"Yes Sir."

"Good see you then."

Benji hung up and handed the phone back.

"Thank you. How long till we land?"

"About 40 minutes Sir."

"Can I get another coffee please?"

"Yes Sir, but it won't be very hot."

"That's Okay."

Dead on time the COD set down at a military airfield just outside Colombo, Sri Lanka. His baggage was quickly transferred to a NorAm Special Missions aircraft. Less than 15 minutes after landing the Icarius was in the air and climbing.

"Where to Sir?" The Plane Captain asked.

"Burundi."

"Yes Sir. About 90 minutes Sir."

"Is there any word on my Commander?"

"Yes Sir. All the information I have is that the aircraft has been located. They should have more info for you when we land in Burundi."

"Thank you. Thank you very much."
