"Benny the Matchmaker" was inspired by my good old friend Castleton during a chat we had. He told me to write a short and simple story and suggested to use my last encounter with a nice stranger as I was walking my dog in the park.

So, here it is!

Greets, Dylan

"Benny the Matchmaker" Chapter 3

Dylan was sitting in the warm sand, the ocean in front of him. He somehow knew this was not New Jersey, not Fire Island or any other spot a true citizen of New York would go to for a day at the ocean, this place was different.

Perfectly clean beaches, with blue water and white foamy spray, with clean air and a nice salty smell, this was almost too good to be true. Dylan felt comfortable, even though he was alone and had no idea how he came here, in a small Speedo, sitting on a deserted beach. He still felt comfortable as he felt a hand on his shoulder, not alarmed, not in any danger. He somehow knew the hand belonged to someone he could trust.

The man spoke up: "Dylan, I am so sorry I had to go before you even were born. I loved your mom so much, but it was not enough." The man's voice trailed off, and the boy could feel the pain in the man's heart. Even though they met here, on this paradisaical spot, Dylan knew the man hurt, deep inside.

"Dad, please, Mom told me it was an accident. You did not know your motorbike would be run off the street by a drunk driver, it was not your fault." The boy felt the man's hand , heard him softly weeping, and his eyes started to fill with tears, as well. Even here, on the beach the both had created for themselves, this place away from it all, this place in Heaven were they could talk, find peace, say the words they both needed, their sorrow was strong, had to wash over them to clear the air.

They both struggled with their emotions, before a deep feeling of peace filled their hearts.

Dylan's Dad spoke up again: " You have to return now, my son. Please remember that I love you, that I love your Mom. We won't see each other again for a long time, since I was told you have a peaceful and long life ahead of you, but you have to know that I lobe you, and will be here for you and your Mom as soon as you are ready."

The beach seemed to fade, and even though Dylan tried to hold on to his Dad's hand, the vision faded, and he heard something else. "Oh my God... Doctor he's awake!" Ian had to grab Dylan's Mom before she could smother her son with kisses and squeeze him too hard, but as he had managed to calm her down, she sat by her son and fondled his face , her eyes full of tears. They had both waited by Dylan's bed for three full days.

" What happened, why am I here?" Dylan managed to ask. He did not feel any pain, but was hungry and thirsty, and disoriented. " Mom, there was a man talking to me.... didn't you tell me Dad died before I was born? He was there, with me, calmed me down and told me to go back were I needed to be, with you ...and with you!" He turned from his Mom to Ian as he said this.

Time seemed to stop for a second, and his Mom stopped breathing, as well as Ian. You could hear a pin drop as Ian sat on the other side of the bed and took Dylan's hand.

He slowly started to speak, but first had to swallow a huge lump in his throat, before he could form the words. Dylan's Mom simply stared at him, wide eyed, pale as if she had seen a ghost.

Ian found the courage to say: " You might have seen your Dad, my love. You were clinically dead for three minutes."

Dylan looked at his lover, who looked tired, but smiled wide. Ian's eyes were full of tears of joy, and despite the fact he was a well seasoned surgeon and had performed the procedure to save Dylan's life flawlessly, he afterwards had broken down and needed help to cope.

Benny had lent a hand, or more precisely a paw, and now was standing on her back legs to lick her young masters face, smothered him with kisses, even before Ian could kiss Dylan.

" Wowow baby girl, whatcha doin here?" a very surprised Dylan all but blurted out, and a smiling Ian told him : "To be a star sometimes has it's perks, and to know the most influential donor helps." He grinned at Mrs. Miller, who was there to witness the bonding between patient and dog, smiling peacefully.

" Your procedure was difficult, but not new to me, and I did a small almost non invasive surgery." Ian started to explain, but both Dylan's Mom and the motherly Mrs. Miller stopped him.

" You, young man, will mind your own business now! Dylan needs cuddles, but not instruction manuals about some technical stuff you young whizkid work with!" Mrs. Miller scolded Ian playfully but distinctly, and the patients Mom cut in: " Are you hungry, baby?"

The surgeon knew that he had lost, and decided to take the backside of Dylan, spooning his lover, while Benny already had cuddled her master up front, already snoring peacefully. For her all was good again.

Even the women had stopped fussing over the boy, and nobody disturbed a long peaceful sleep of the cute triplet on the hospital bed.

As the sun rose, Dylan woke up again and announced loud and clear: "Benny move, I gotta pee!"

A chuckling Ian almost jumped up to help the dog off the bed and support his lover, but Dylan was surprisingly strong and seemed to be stable enough to walk to the bathroom by himself. Ian insisted he sat down, and he even insisted to stay in the bathroom while Dylan relieved himself, saying: " I poked around in that cute head of yours, I am obliged to make sure everything works!"

He was more than happy to hear the boy he loved giggle: " Everything? You perv, I'm just out of ICU and you stare at my dick!"

Some playful banter later and Dylan sat up in bed, a full plate of breakfast in front of him. His personal physician had checked him and gave a thumbs up for a hearty meal, and all Dylan needed now was some more rest.

A young orderly had taken care of Benny's needs for the moment, and as he and the excited dog walked in again, he reported a successful business and a play date with Kenzo, who had been waiting by the front door of the hospital.

Mrs. Miller walked in only a minute later, reporting she had "parked" Kenzo in her car, with her driver paying attention, since she was on her way to pick Dylan's Mom up to visit.

The men knew they had no chance, and Ian helped Dylan to shower and shave to make himself presentable for his Mom's visit. It was a most convenient coincidence that the room had a huge walk in shower, since Ian insisted to assist Dylan inside the shower stall. To save time and water the lovers decided to share a shower, and to feel his lovers strong arms around him helped the boy to steady himself while he was relaxing under the nice hot water stream. It did not take them too long since they knew the women would be back soon, but they had to smile as they found Benny sitting in front of the shower stall as they turned off the water.

" She does that all the time, but if I want her to take a bath , she runs away! Stupid doggy!" Dylan giggled.

All was perfect again.

Back on the bed, in a nice cozy designer jogging suit that clearly Mrs. Miller must have bought, Dylan waited patiently until his lover doctor had taken his measurements, like heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and updated the clinics files accordingly.

Right on cue as he had kissed his patients forehead, the women walked in, hands full of bags.

" What are you doing, ladies, instead of rushing to my bedside you raid the stores?" Dylan mocked the women playfully. His Mom looked a little bashful, but Ian jumped to the rescue: " I thought you needed some clothes, and I asked your Mom and Mrs. Miller to get some stuff for you, baby" Anyone in the room knew he wanted to save Dylan's Moms face, as the stuff Mrs. Miller had bought were clearly much more expensive than the usual garments Dylan wore. Dylan wanted to speak up in protest, but Ian playfully stopped him by saying: " I had to cut up your stuff after you were brought here. I always pay what I ruin, company policy, before we get sued by a patient."

Even Dylan and his Mom now had to smile, and Dylan lifted his right hand and mocked: " And my Rolex, did you cut off my Rolex Oyster as well?"

Anyone in the room knew he never had owned such a piece of jewelry, but Ian and Dylan had watched a James Bond video on TV , and the Doctor did not miss the longing look the boy had given the agents watch.

Much to Dylan's surprise he spoke up to Mrs. Miller, addressing her " Oh, Miss Moneypenny, did Q give you Double-O-Seven's new timepiece?", and she never missed her cue as she answered: "Certainly Sir, fresh out of Q-Branch, with all the usual refinements" as she handed the overwhelmed boy a stainless steel Oyster.

For a moment Dylan was speechless, and his mother shocked, but he did not care who watched as he pulled Ian into a deep kiss and a big bear hug.

All he heard, as the women left the room, was Mrs. Miller say: "Don't ask" while his Mom answered : "Don't tell!"

The tension Dylan and Ian had been going through let them hug each other for dear life. It was Ian who broke down and teared up in his boyfriends arms, sobbing as he told him how hard it had been to see him suffer through the crisis, telling Dylan how much he had to concentrate to fulfill his duty and perform the operation to save his boy's life and well being. The two of them petted Benny as the stubborn little dog pawed it's way up and between them, to lick the tears away and help them cope.

They fell asleep again together , in a hug that made clear they belonged to each other.

As the sun went up and started to shine into the room, Ian was the first to wake up, right before an orderly walked in with a cart full of breakfast and the reminder that the surgeon needed to get ready for a big and important operation to save another young man. The patient was paralyzed after a freak accident , riding his motorbike through the desert that belonged to his family.

The young patient was non other than Omar, one of the sons of the King of an Arabian country, Heir of the throne, if Ian could perform the necessary operation to reconnect severed nerve bundles .

Dylan still slept, recovering from his own accident, Benny in his arms, as his Mom walked in quietly and sat down by the bed, admiring her sleeping baby boy. She knew he was grown and could look out for himself, but as all moms would feel, she needed to protect her son, and she was ready to face the task.

She did quietly read a book as Ian walked in again, looking freshly showered and in his white coat every inch like the successful surgeon he was, right after he did what some people called a wonder, but to him meanwhile was a routine procedure. Omar would surely be able to walk again, and the Doctor had given orders to put him in one room with Dylan, helping each of the boys to manage the days till they would be fully healed and able to walk out of the hospital.

As Dylan woke up, he saw a second bed in his room, he saw his mom talk to someone by the bed of the other patient, and he saw Ian was there too.

" Wassup Dear, any pain? " Ian asked him, while switching into his professional role and taking heart rate and blood pressure. Dylan felt a little weak, but hungry too, and after a quick look at his new Rolex he decided the meal in front of him was already lunch. Ian helped him sit up, and while Dylan was digging in Ian told him some facts about his new roommate.

Dylan looked over, and he saw the boy did not only look hot, he also was covered by bandages and had monitoring devices all over him. He was sleeping, it seemed.

Dylan asked his lover: " What is wrong with him, and accident?", so the Doctor started to explain what had happened. He did not forget to tell Dylan that he had been to this country, to perform a surgery at the boy's granddad, who received a new replacement heart. The old man had died a year later by the hands of a murderer, but the family was still more than grateful and had insisted only Dr. Austin would be able to perform the surgery. They flew the boy Omar to New York in the Kings private Airbus A380, the most expensive private plane ever built.

And now the boy was here, and Dylan was his roommate. Dr. Austin had insisted the boy needed a friend when he woke up, and Dylan and Benny would be perfect to make the shy kid open up and break him out of his depression and his self-destructive ways, for example his motorbike stunt.

Dylan was taking a nap as the Arabian boy woke up, moaning in pain. The best thing he could do was ringing for the nurse and getting up to sit by the new bed neighbor, holding his hand.

The next few days would change the Prince's life, and that of a certain young New Yorker.
