Note from the author

This is the continuing story of Robert and Johnny, who first appeared in my short series: My 11th Summer. Although intended to be a simple stand alone short series, My 11th Summer was so popular, not only with my readers, but myself, that I decided to continue the saga in Tween to Teen. And now, as the boys finish High School and move on to College and their adult life, the final part of the saga begins. So, for those who have been following the stories these last 3 years, here is part 3 of the trilogy, which I am calling: Robert and Johnny-The rest of the story. Enjoy.

Chapter 5

New Friends, Old Enemies

Robert and Johnny

On Sunday we had a nice dinner at Johnny's house and spent most of the day keeping Mikey amused. He was a bundle of energy as always, and he kept us busy.

We finally managed to get away around 4 that afternoon, and after picking up Caleb and Tony, we headed back to Tahlequah, our home away from home. The ride back was a quiet one and I wound up napping a bit, and when I awoke we were almost there.

We were tired but happy as we climbed out and headed to our rooms to unwind for a little while. Johnny and I piled down in bed, but before long we were kissing and making out and our clothes came off quickly. Even after all those years, we still couldn't get enough of each other and each time seemed better than the last.

We did nap after making love, and when we rose, showered and got dressed, it was starting to get dark outside. Tony had been working on some school project and Caleb had gone out for a bit, but he returned soon after we made it to the living room.

"I brought pizza," Caleb said holding up two pizza boxes.

"Yum," I said jumping up, "I was dreading cooking tonight. Thanks Caleb, you're a real pal."

Tony must've smelled the pizza or heard Caleb return because he soon joined us, looking like a hungry wolf. I poured us glasses of Pepsi and we sat down and made quick work of the two pizzas, then passed around a bag of cookies mom had send home with us. Once we were full, we retired to the living room and watched TV till we finally called it a day and went off to our rooms for some much needed sleep. Tomorrow we had classes to attend and our life would fall back into the familiar routine.

At least we had Christmas break to look forward too, and personally I thought it couldn't come too soon. We were going home for break and would be there almost two weeks, and I was looking forward to spending more time with family and friends. Thanksgiving weekend had just given me a taste of what I'd been missing, and I was eager to experience more. Don't get me wrong, I loved college life and living with Johnny and Caleb and Tony, but I missed home, my family and other friends.

We said our goodnights and headed off to our rooms, but Johnny and I were too tired for anymore than just a little kissing and snuggling. I lay there listening to Johnny's slow even breathing and soon I drifted off to sleep as well.

"Look at this picture mom gave me," I said laughing as I handed the black and white photo to Johnny the next day.

"That's us!" Johnny said grinning, "we used to sit on that fence a lot, usually when we had to talk things over. Who took this?"

"Mom, she said she came looking for us that day and when she saw us there she just couldn't resist taking a picture. I have no idea why she had her camera with her though," I laughed, "But now that I think about it, she took lots of pictures when we were growing up, and I'm sure she still does now that they have Mikey."

"We were so young there, what like 13 or 14?"

"I think so, I can almost feel that wooden rail under my rear," I said gazing at the photo. I wonder what the Robert and Johnny of then would say if we told them what fun was ahead of them," I chuckled.

"They'd probably be terrified if two grizzly looking guys came up and started talking to them about the future," he laughed.

"Grizzly looking? we're not grizzly looking. Sure, our hair is kind of long, but we're clean shaven."

"Yeah, wonder what I'd look like with a mustache?" Johnny mused.

"No, absolutely not, do not grow a mustache! I like you just like you are," I said rubbing my hand along his jawline.

"I was kidding," Johnny laughed. We should have this picture made into a poster," he said then, "uh, mind if I borrow it for awhile? I'd like to do a drawing."

"Do it, and we'll hang the drawing," I said enthusiastically, taking one last look at the picture before handing it over.

"I'll take good care of it," Johnny said looking down at the two of us frozen in time.

"I know you will," I said feeling very emotional. That picture had stirred something up in me that I couldn't explain. I was already dealing with homesickness, and now this.

"Hey, you okay?" Johnny said sensing my mood.

"Yeah, just...you know..."

"Is it about this picture? I know it brings back memories, it does for me too, but they're good memories."

"I know," I said smiling sadly, "it's just...we were so young, so vulnerable and yet somehow we made it through all that stuff, and...look at us now."

"When did you know?" Johnny said looking thoughtful, "that we were gonna be together forever?"

"Hmm...well, I know this sounds silly, but I think I knew even when we were little kids. I mean, I didn't know about the sex and stuff, but I knew I wanted to be with you every minute I could, and I think I loved you even then."

"Yeah, well...it took me a bit longer. I think it really became real for me after the Evelyn episode, but I did love you even as a little kid. I just didn't know what that meant."

"Yeah, well...we're stuck with each other now," I said hugging him to me, "wanna go to our room and reaffirm that love?" I said lewdly.

"Hell yeah, when have I ever passed down an opportunity for some good lovin'?" he chuckled.

We took our time that afternoon, starting with kissing and fondling, and winding up in the most intimate of all human interactions. Deep inside Johnny, I called out his name, avowed my love for him once again, and came so hard I blacked out for a moment. As I returned to consciousness I stared down at Johnny's smiling face and felt such love for him that my heart ached. Bending down, I kissed him, still deep inside him, and whispered those words that meant everything to us.

"I love you with all my heart and soul," I said, tears staining my eyes, "I want to grow old with you, and when we're old and grey we'll get matching rocking chairs and sit on the porch and watch the young boys playing."

"Aww, I love you too, and you can count on me being there when we're old men."

Next, Johnny made love to me and I could see by the look on his face that his orgasm was just as intense as mine. Afterwards we lay there, our naked sweaty bodies cooling in the afternoon air, snuggling and sharing a moment. We might have laid there all night if the sound of the front door opening and closing hadn't brought us back to the present. Reluctantly we got up and slipped on a pair of shorts, and after a trip to the bathroom, we went in to find Tony and one of his friends from school having a snack in the kitchen.

"Hi guys," I said recognizing Tony's friend from school, but I couldn't remember his name.

"Hey, you guys remember Will?" Tony said opening a bottle of Coke with the metal opener on the side of the fridge. In those days there were no twist off caps, and you needed a bottle opener, either the  handheld type or the mounted kind.

"Right," I said offering my hand, "good to see you again. What are you guys up to?"

"Just hanging out, later we're going to a meeting with Caleb. It's one of those anti-war things. Hope we don't get arrested," Tony laughed.

"Well, if you do, we'll bail you out," Johnny laughed.

Will watched us interact with Tony and I think he was a little surprised at the friendship we showed Tony. I mean, this was 1971 and smack in the middle of The Bible Belt, and blacks were still treated like second class citizens, or worse. To us Tony was just...well, Tony, and like a brother, and I guess Will wasn't used to seeing that kind of relationship between black and white.

"Too bad," I said, "I was going to make meatloaf, my mom's recipe."

"Well, the rally isn't till 7..." Tony said looking hungry.

"Cool, I'll start it now and we can eat around 6 and you'll still have time to attend the rally. Will, can you join us for dinner? I know you might not believe this, but I'm actually a pretty good cook."

"Uh, well..." Will said looking at Tony for guidance.

"He's staying," Tony laughed, "Will...relax, I told you these guys are cool. Wait till you meet my step bro," he laughed, "he's so white he shines."

We all laughed at that, and even Will smiled a little. He was beginning to loosen up and I figured by the time he had a decent meal in his stomach he'd be one of us.

Caleb showed up about a half hour before dinner was ready, looking hungry and happy to be home. He actually knew Will from one of his classes, but until that day had no idea he and Tony were friends.

To say Will was shocked to learn that Tony and Caleb were basically step brothers was an understatement, but it was all it took to dissolve any misgivings or fears he had about us white boys. After that he began to open up and relax, and he turned out to be a very intelligent and passionate guy. I had no idea what his sexual persuasion was, but I didn't worry about it. If he was into guys, Tony would probably know and move things that way if it seemed right.

Dinner was a complete success and there was not a crumb left anywhere after the hungry sharks moved in. Mom's meatloaf recipe was foolproof and I was proud that it came out almost as good as hers. Of course we would never tell her that, for we would never do anything to hurt her feelings.

Dessert was store bought cookies and pudding that I'd made earlier. The pudding was still warm and delicious and the cookies were a welcome addition. Afterwards, the others offered to help clean up, but we insisted they go on to their rally, and promised again, jokingly, to bail them out if necessary.

When the others had gone, Johnny and I cleaned up the mess, and I washed while Johnny dried. It was even nice doing mundane things like washing dishes, giving us a sort of "married feeling", and we were looking forward to having the whole house to ourselves that evening.

"So what do you think of Will?" Johnny asked as we finished up the last of the dishes.

"He's a nice guy, I like him. He was a little shy at first, but once Caleb got here he began to relax. Did you see his face when he realized Tony and Caleb were step brothers?" I laughed.

"Yeah, must've been a shock, even with Tony telling him he was white. Not to mention a hot looking guy. Which brings me to the question: do you think Will likes guys?"

"I don't know, honestly, I wasn't really looking for any signs of that. I was more interested in getting him to feel at ease. We can always ask Tony later, I'm sure he knows. But, remember, some guys actually like girls," I added laughing.

"Yeah, good thing, or the race would die out," Johnny laughed, "but just cause you want to pork a girl doesn't mean you can't enjoy getting it on with a guy once in a while...for fun."

"Oh I agree," I said draining the water from the sink, "so...mister, we have the whole place to ourselves, what you wanna do?"

"Well, I'm still good from earlier, but how about some TV and snuggling on the couch?"

"Good answer," I said grinning, "and who knows what that will lead to."

We made it through the evening without ripping each other's clothes off, but that's not to say we didn't do some heavy petting. We were saving ourselves for later in bed though, and never let it get too far out of hand.

Around ten the boys returned and gave us a full report on the rally and the subject of Will came up after a while.

"So, Will seems like a really nice guy," I said smiling, "I think he was worried about me and Johnny when he first saw us though," I chuckled.

"He's just not used to being around white boys," Tony said, "except at school of course."

"Well, he seemed to have gotten over it by the time he left here," Johnny observed.

"Oh, yeah...he just needed to get to know you first," Tony said, "but the look on his face when he saw Caleb was worth a thousand bucks," he added chuckling.

"Fortunately, we knew each other from class," Caleb added, "I think he's cool with the whole situation now."

"Good, bring him around anytime," I said, "there's always room for one more at the dinner table."

"And what else?" Tony said grinning, "you guys thinking about what Will's got swinging between his legs?"

"Well..." I said blushing, "maybe just a little."

"As far as I know Will only likes girls, but then...I used to say that too."

"It's no big deal, but who knows what might happen once he really gets comfortable around us," I chuckled.

"I'm just glad you guys didn't wind up in jail," Johnny teased, "I was not looking forward to bailing you out."

"Seriously, the rally was pretty peaceful, but there are always a few hotheads there that make the rest of us look bad. The cops were pretty cool though, and for the most part things went pretty smooth," Caleb said.

"Damn war," I said, "Oh by the way...I got a letter from Gerald today. Want me to read it aloud?" Of course they did.

"Dear gang," I began, "Today I had my first test flight in a chopper. The instructor was really good and said I did a great job for a first timer. I really like flying, and if I keep up at this rate I should be getting certified in a couple months. I can't wait to get certified and get over there in Nam to do some serious work. Chopper pilots are really important over there, for air-lifting casualties and hauling supplies and stuff. Plus, it's a whole hell of a lot safer than being on the ground...if you don't crash...ha ha."

I paused to wipe a tear from my eye and continued, "I haven't had much free time lately, but there are ways to have fun here, if you know what I mean. Anyway, the thing I miss most is sleep. You don't get a lot of it here and I hear it's even worse once you're deployed. We're up early for exercise, then chow, and then I train all day, book work, and now actually flying and then it's chow, and we have like an hour or two for rec. It's a tough life, but I gotta say, I love most of it.

I called my mom Sunday and everything is fine with her. My brother is in California and doing okay, and mom says she misses both of us, even if we were a pain in the ass sometimes...ha ha. Well, it's almost time to hit the sack. Take care guys and pray for me. I'll write again soon. Please write back...I miss you guys. Your Pal, Gerald."

"Damn, who would have ever believed that guy could fly a copter?" Johnny said shaking his head, "I guess it just goes to show, if you put your mind to it, you can do anything."

"Gerald's a pretty smart guy. He might be a little rough around the edges, but he's a great guy," I said in his defense, "and I really miss him."

"We all do," Caleb assured me, "but he's doing what he wants to do, and that's worth something. I just wish this damn war would end and he could spend his hitch flying copters over here."

"Yeah, I worry about him," I admitted, "but there's nothing we can do but pray."

"Amen," Tony said looking sad, "I think I'm going to bed now, I have an early class."

"Yeah, good idea," Caleb said yawning, "goodnight guys."

Soon we were scattered to our own rooms and the house fell silent. Even though Gerald's letter had put us in a somber mood, Johnny and I still made love. It was a celebration of our life and love, and I knew if Gerald was here he'd highly approve.

I did say some prayers for our friend that night, and I can tell you that I shed a few tears in the process. While Johnny slept quietly beside me, I lay there remembering how Gerald and I had first met, and I had to smile. So much had happened in our lives, most of it good, and this was just one more chapter in the book that was our lives. I fell asleep thinking of the boys we'd been, and all the adventures we'd shared, and my dreams were pleasant that night.

The Incident

*Author's note: In this section there is extensive use of the "N" word by ignorant white trash. This was, and still is unfortunately a common occurrence even in this day and age. However, if this sort of dialog offends you, I suggest you skip this section and scroll on down. My use of the word in no way is meant to be offensive to my black brothers, but rather as a way to convey the hatred and ignorance they faced then, and even today.*

Although most of the people we came into contact with were basically good, that's not to say that there weren't some bad ones too. Despite being smack in the middle of the Bible Belt, some of the people behaved more like heathens than Christians, even some who went to church.

In the South, marches continued for racial equality and black people still found themselves on the wrong end of a gun, or in some cases a noose. It was horrible the way blacks were treated in general and as a white man I was sometimes ashamed of my race. What did it matter what color a man's skin was, did he not feel the same feelings, dream the same dreams, bleed the same color?

Tony was more than our friend, he was our brother, and we formed a protective shield around him everywhere we went. Tony was decent and smart and polite, but he also had a temper. He'd grown up in an orphanage and had always had to fight his own battles till Caleb's granny adopted him and took him out of that shit storm.

At first Tony had been suspicious of our behavior toward him, fearing that we'd be like all the other white boys he'd come into contact with, but we'd won his trust, his love, and his loyalty, and now we were as close as any human beings can be. Our relationship was formed on trust, respect, and love, and we had each other's backs.

And thus it was so that fateful day in December of 1971 as we did some Christmas shopping in downtown Tahlequah. We'd all loaded into the Bug Bus and we were laughing and talking and having a great time. Our plan was to buy gifts for our family first while together, then scatter and shop for each other.

Our first stop was a place called The Bottom Half. It was a unique little men's store and actually owned by the same people who owned Sharpe's Dry Goods back in Pryor. In fact, the manager of the store was the son of the manager back in Pryor. He was attending college there and they'd created the store just so he'd have a place to work while continuing his studies.

The store, as the name implied, sold mostly bottoms, pants and shorts, and they had things there you couldn't find other places. We were mostly window shopping that day, but I found a pair of elephant bells I fell in love with and I convinced Johnny to get a pair too, in a different color.

Tony found a pair of checkered bells that he loved, but they were pretty expensive and he decided not to spend that much money. I made a mental note of what size he'd tried on, and later I went back and bought them and gave them to him for Christmas.

Caleb found a tee shirt he liked, and soon we were on our way. We hit the variety store and found some stuff for our folks, and at Western Auto I bought a battery operated back-hole that was pretty darn neat. It was the kind of thing I would have liked as a kid, and I just knew Mikey would love it.

We split up after that and I went back to The Bottom Half and bought those pants for Tony along with a nice shirt. I had them gift wrapped for free and stowed them in the Bug Bus before going off to do some more shopping

We spent most of the afternoon in town that day shopping, and after several trips to the Bug Bus I was done and went searching for the others. I was just nearing the Five and Dime when I saw Tony on the street surrounded by three white men, and it didn't take me more than a second to size up the situation.

I hurried my pace, and fortunately Johnny appeared just about then from the drugstore next door. He actually reached them first, and as I came skidding to a halt beside him, I heard his angry voice ring out.

"Is there a problem here?"

"Yeah, this nigger thinks he's hot shit," one of the men said, then spitting a glob of brown liquid onto the sidewalk he added, "we don't like uppity niggers around here."

"I ain't a nigger," Tony said, obviously enraged and ready to battle.

From up the block I saw Caleb approaching, and I relaxed a little more. The odds were improving by the minute. It would soon be four against three, even if the three were grown men.

We'd attracted a crowd now, and a few of them were other college kids, all white, but for the moment they seemed happy just to observe and not get involved.

"What's happening?" Caleb said out of breath from running the last few yards.

"We want this nigger here to apologize," one of the other men said, and I saw Caleb's face undergo a change that scared even me.

"Apologize, apologize for what, being smarter than you, or more civilized?" Caleb spat out, "his name is Tony, and guess what mother fucker? he's my step brother," he said stepping closer and forcing the idiot who had just spoken to step back.

"Step brother?" the other guy spat out, "how the hell did that happen? Your momma sleep with a nigger?" he laughed.

"That's it!" Johnny said, "You ignorant son of a bitch. I'm gonna give you five seconds to get the hell out of our faces, and then it's on. I'll beat the ignorant right out of you," he said balling his fists and turning beet red with anger.

Up until now Tony hadn't said much, but suddenly he began to speak, and all eyes turned to him.

"Look, you may not like that I'm black and smarter than you, handsomer than you, and smell way better than you, but you don't get to choose where I go or what I do. Got that? I'm a free man, and I'm doing something good with my life. I'm going to school and learning how to do more than chew tobacco, drink moon shine, and howl at the moon. I'm not a nigger, I'm a man, which is more than I can say for you three."

The laughter from the crowd caused the three to hurl a few curse words their way, and the tobacco-spitter spoke up next.

"Boy, I will cut you," he said pulling a switchblade knife from his pocket so quickly that it seemed it had just appeared in his hand.

"Ha!" Tony said backing away a little, "it'd take more than that little toad sticker and a rhino like you to put me down," Tony said extending his hands in a defensive mode, his feet planted firmly as he sized the guy up.

The guy was probably 250 pounds, most of it fat, and wasn't more than 5'8". He had dirty brown hair and a straggly beard that looked like it hadn't been trimmed in years. His eyes were a pale grey/blue, and at the moment were wide open and feral looking.

"That's enough," someone shouted from behind us, and when I turned around two cops were approaching, their night sticks in hand, but they hadn't un-holstered their guns as you see so often today. Today it's shoot first, ask questions later, and if you're black you're fair game for any cop.

"Drop the knife," one of the cops said grabbing his gun but not pulling it out of the holster yet, "real slow...drop it, no need for anyone to get hurt."

"The guy looked shocked that anyone would question his use of a knife on a black man, and it took his pea brain a minute to realize that he was the one in trouble now.

"Damn nigger," he muttered as he dropped the knife onto the sidewalk.

"Kick it over here," the cop ordered, and when it was within reach, he picked it up by the blade and placed it in a plastic bag, I supposed for evidence.

"Now then, what's this all about?" the cop asked, looking to each of us for an answer.

"These three were bothering our friend Tony and calling him the N word," I said quickly, "and then this one pulled a knife and threatened to cut him."

"That right?" he said looking at the others, "Joe, you go talk to those folks over there and see what they have to say about what went on."

The other cop went over to the crowd, but he didn't stay long, and when he returned he took the other cop aside and spoke to him for a few minutes.

"So, what do you fellas have to say for yourselves?" the first cop said once his pow wow was over, "why were you hassling this here boy?"

I winced at the word "boy", but I don't think the cop meant it in a derogatory way. It was just boy opposed to man, because we still looked young, especially compared to the three guys and the cops.

"Was a time when his kind wouldn't been allowed to walk down the street, let alone shop in stores with decent folks," the one who'd pulled the knife mumbled.

"Maybe, but times have changed, and this boy's got just as much right to be here as you do. As long as he don't start no trouble, and it seems like you three are the ones who done started the trouble."

"You two, get out of town and don't let me ever hear of you hassling anyone in my town," the one cop said, "and as for you, a trip to the jail will maybe help you find some better manners. Pulling a knife and threatening someone is a serious offense. If these boys want to file charges you could wind up doing some serious time."

"I never...cut no one," the man whined, "I was just showin' em I ain't no pushover..."

"Joe, cuff him, I want to talk to these boys a minute.

While Joe cuffed the guy who'd pulled the knife, the other officer, who I discovered was actually Sheriff Frank Wilson, took us aside and talked to us.

"You boys want to file charges?"

"No," Tony said quickly, "we don't want any trouble. Guys like that have more in-laws and outlaws than a rabbit has bunnies. Best to just forget it and hope we don't run into them again. But I'll tell you this Sheriff, if he'd come at me with that knife, it mighta been me you was arresting, cause I wouldn't of stopped till he was down. I grew up at Whitaker and I had to fight just to stay alive, and I know how to take care of myself."

"Well, I don't think those three will give you any more trouble, but if they do...let us handle it. We're just a phone call away, and despite what you may think of most of us white guys, I follow the law, and you ain't gonna get treated no different than anyone else."

We talked for a while, and when we told him we were all students at the college he asked if we knew his grandson, Jeff Wilson. I hadn't heard that name, but surprisingly Tony had.

"He's in my Social Studies class and he was at the rally the other night. I don't know him personally, but I know who he is. Seems okay."

"He's more than okay. Kid is gonna be Governor or President some day," he chuckled, "and yeah, he's all mixed up in the protests and stuff, but I agree with him on some things, like the war. I don't think we got any business over there, but the damn politicians are the ones who keep that shit going."

We talked for a while longer, then after thanking the Sheriff, we loaded up in the Bug Bus and drove home. The atmosphere was somber as we drove along that day, but eventually Tony spoke up.

"Thanks guys, for having my back. I'm glad things didn't get too far out of hand though. If I'd have hurt that guy, don't make any difference who started it, I'd of been the one who got thrown in jail."

"That's nuts," I said, "he attacked you with a knife. Are you sure you don't want to press charges?"

"Yeah, I'm sure. I'm black, Robert, and no matter what he did to me, ain't no jury made up of white folks gonna convict a white man in a town like this. Heck, he's probably kin to someone on the police force or a judge. All these pecker-heads around here are inbred."

I almost laughed a this humorous appraisal of the locals, but I also knew he was probably right. Though most of the people we came into contact with were other students and pretty decent, there were plenty of people like those three we'd encountered today. It was best to forget it and just move on, and we all knew it, even if it did rub us all the wrong way.

We were hungry, but I didn't feel like cooking, so we stopped at a drive-in and got burgers, coneys, and fries to go. Tony ordered onion rings too and said he was starved. Apparently the encounter hadn't hurt his appetite any, because he polished off a burger, a foot-long, and those onion rings, then helped Caleb finish his fries.

We played a board game after dinner, but around 7 Caleb said he had some homework to do, and Tony went in to watch TV. Johnny and I played cards for a while, then went in to join Tony who had fallen asleep on the couch.

He looked so peaceful in slumber, beautiful in every way, and I wondered how anyone could hate him simply because of the color of his skin. He was a decent, intelligent, and loving friend, who added not only to our lives but to life in general. I felt tears sting my eyes as I gazed upon his angelic face and Johnny soon picked up on my mood.

"I have a suggestion," Johnny said quietly, "why don't we wake Tony up and take him to bed with us. I think he could use some good lovin' tonight, don't you?'

"Yeah, good idea," I said smiling as I wiped away the tears, "no wonder I love you so much, you and I think alike."

It didn't take much to convince Tony to join us, and that night our love making was a celebration of our feelings for one another. Johnny and I both worked on Tony as he lay there, open to our loving and touching, and when he came we shared his tasty seed between us, then kissed him and allowed him to taste it as well.

Johnny and I made love then while Tony watched, and eventually he joined in that as well, touching us intimately and kissing us all over as we pounded each other desperately.

Afterwards, we snuggled up with Tony in the middle, and fell asleep. It was a little crowded, but well worth the effort and we slept well. I awoke later and found Tony was gone and figured he must've gone off to his room to be more comfortable, but the next morning I learned that he'd paid Caleb a visit and thanked him in a special way for standing up for him.

In the days that followed we stuck to Tony like glue and even alerted our other friends to keep an eye out for him when we weren't around. Will, who was fast becoming Tony's closest friend and confidant, was spending a lot of time with Tony now and I had the feeling Will could handle anything that came their way. Of course Will was black too, and suffered the same prejudices as Tony, but in a scrape he'd be a good man to have at your back.

Fortunately there were no further incidents with the three red-necks and we heard through the Sheriff's department that Lonnie Ellis (the guy with the knife) was doing 6 months in county for his part in the incident. His buddies were lucky that they hadn't gotten any more involved than they had, and we never saw any of them again after that day.

************************************

Life went on, we ate, we slept, we studied, we attended football games, saw the occasional movie, and of course Tony and Caleb continued to attend the rallies. Once or twice they even convinced Johnny and me to go along, but I just wasn't the protesting type and it all seemed so pointless in the end.

One weekend we made the rounds of the local museums and wound up at Tsa-La-Gi, the Indian museum and village we'd visited back when we were teens. Of course the boys weren't swimming as they'd been that time, but there were a few cute boys playing games and just hanging around. I wondered where that boy I'd been so captivated by that day was now. He'd probably be around our age by now, maybe even going to college with us and we'd never know it.

So much had changed in our lives, so much had happened, and yet there was one constant, the love Johnny and I shared. No matter what happened in life, as long as I had Johnny and that love I was confident I could face anything.

"What you thinking?" Johnny said nudging me gently. He could always tell when I was in one of my moods.

"Remember that cute boy who was swimming the last time we were here? I was just wondering where he was today."

"Probably married by now," Johnny chuckled, "those Indian boys marry early and have lots of kids."

"Johnny, how do you know that?" I said thumbing him on the shoulder, "that's almost as bad as saying black guys just leave babies everywhere they go."

"Sorry, just an observation. I guess it's not a bad thing . As long as they can feed the kids."

"Hold on a minute, I want to take a few pictures. Maybe you can do some drawing from them later," I said changing the subject, but I really did want some pictures to remember this trip by.

I took some pictures of the village along with the Native actors and then pictures of the others as a group. I wished I could have gotten a picture of all of us together, but the actors weren't supposed to interact with the guests, so asking one of them to snap our picture was out.

However, just about when I'd given up the whole idea, a teenage boy in street clothes came along, and summing things up quickly he offered to take a group photo. That picture hangs in my study today, and sometimes when I look at it I'm whisked back to that day and all that happened.

"Thanks buddy," I said warmly looking the boy over. He was short for a boy his age, which I guessed to be 16 or 17, and had the typical brownish red skin of a Native American, Cherokee to be exact, I found out later.

His name was Donald Little Dove and he was one of the most beautiful boys I think I have ever seen. His dark eyes were expressive, and at the moment filled with joy and happiness and his whole being seemed to echo those feelings.

His long black hair crowned his handsome face and his smile lit up the landscape. His perfect teeth were so white they almost blinded us with the glare, and that was only his face.

Below, his chest was well defined, and though small for his age, he was well built and sturdy looking. His small waist flared out at the hips, and though I couldn't see it from this angle, I would discover that he had a very nicely shaped rear end, what we refer to as a bubble butt these days.

He worked at the Village, but this was his day off and he'd come to pick up a friend who would be getting off at closing time. We learned a lot about Donald (or Don as he preferred to be called) that day, including that he was 17, drove an old Ford pickup, and that his father was a teacher at the college. Although none of us had any of his classes, we'd heard of Professor Little Dove, and now we were meeting his handsome son.

He hung with us the whole time we were there, and we stayed till almost closing time. I don't know how the others felt, but I found it hard to leave Don behind. I was just about to suggest we swap phone numbers when Don beat me to it and made the offer. I wasted no time writing down our number on a piece of Johnny's art pad, which he always carried, and in turn wrote Don's number on the back of the tablet.

We shook hands, but Don surprised us by giving us all hugs before turning to go, a slight wave as he made his way back into the village.

"Wow, that was a surprise," I said once we were in the Bug Bus.

"What, that Don came along and took our picture, or that a hot boy like that wants to stay in touch?" Johnny chuckled, always able to read my mind.

"Both," I admitted, "am I sick to think he might want more than friendship from us?"

"He was awfully friendly," this from Caleb, "and God, was he hot looking!"

"Down boy," Tony laughed, "just cause the boy wants to make some new friends, don't mean he's eager to get down and dirty with ya."

"We can dream can't we,?" I teased, "but seriously, I think we have room for one more friend in our life. Besides, I bet he can tell us some things about his people which will be very interesting...maybe even take us to a Pow Wow."

"Well, we won't have much time to find out what his intentions are since we'll be heading home Friday, but I guess we can stay in touch," Johnny suggested, "but I'll lay odds, he calls us first," he added chuckling.

"We'll see," I said, hoping Johnny was right, after all, I didn't want to appear too eager. I loved Johnny, and he was all I ever needed, but there was nothing wrong with making a new friend. If things went beyond that, well...we'd deal with it when, and if it happened.

The days passed, and Johnny was right, it was Don who called us first. It was Wednesday and I'd all but forgotten about him what with being so busy and all. I answered the phone and at first it took me a minute to place the voice.

"Oh, yeah...hello Don," I sputtered, "what's going on?"

"Oh nothing, just bored. I hope it's okay that I called," he said sounding a little unsure of himself.

"Absolutely," I said trying to convey my joy over the phone, "it's good to hear from you. I don't know if I can cure your boredom but if you want to come over and hang out with us guys that would be rad."

"Really?" he said sounding relieved, "Yeah, I'd like that. Uh, when should I come...and where do you live?"

I suggested he come for dinner, which we usually ate around 6:30, then gave him our address and directions to the house. Having lived in the city all his life, he said he knew exactly where our place was and assured me he could find it easily. We chatted for about fifteen minutes about nothing in particular, but it was amazing how easy it was to talk with him.

Somewhere in the middle of the call, Johnny came in, having had a late class that day, and he gave me a kiss and mouthed the words, "who's that?".

"Don," I said covering the mouthpiece and grinning.

"Told ya so," he laughed, then he went off to shower, leaving me to chat with Don solo.

We talked another ten minutes or so before I excused myself, saying I needed to get dinner prep going, and Don apologized for keeping me so long. He seemed much more reserved and anxious on the phone than he had in person, but I supposed this was sort of a big thing for him, coming to the house of four almost total strangers, even if it was his idea.

When Johnny appeared looking and smelling shower fresh, I was already working on dinner and he gave me a knowing smile.

"Let me guess, Don's coming for dinner?"

"Good guess, mmm...you smell nice," I said, pausing long enough to kiss him and get a feel of that sexy butt.

"What wonderful treat are you preparing for our new friend?"

"Well, I was thinking I'd make that chicken casserole of mom's that you like so much. The other guys like it too, and well...I figured who doesn't like chicken?"

"Good choice, I'll make a salad, we have those fresh veggies we got at the farmer's market and we need to eat them before we go home for the holiday."

While Johnny made a salad, I put together all the things I needed for the casserole while I waited for the oven to heat up. It was five by then, but the casserole would need an hour to cook and I could keep it warm if it came out too soon.

I was almost as nervous as Don had sounded on the phone, but I knew it was silly. He was just a friend coming to share dinner with us and it was no big deal. It wasn't like we were going to rip his clothes off the minute he got here and have a big orgy, I thought smiling to myself. Heck, for all we knew he was straight, maybe even had a girlfriend. Maybe he was just lonely for some guy company and he thought we were cool. Well, whatever the reason he was interested in us, I supposed we'd soon find out.

Caleb and Tony arrived almost at the same time, Caleb in his pickup, and Tony on my motorcycle. I'd ridden it down one weekend while we were home visiting, but I seldom ever rode it since I preferred to ride with Johnny in the Bug Bus. I had suggested that Tony use it when he needed wheels, and he'd gratefully accepted, and most days he rode it to and from the campus if the weather was dry.

"Hey guys, wash up and get ready for dinner," I said, laughing at the fact that I sounded like my mom at this point, "We're having company for dinner, Don is coming over."

"OH!" Caleb said raising an eyebrow, "so who called who?"

"Whom," I corrected, "and Don called me...uh, us."

"You owe me five bucks," Johnny said holding out his hand to Caleb, who solemnly fished out his wallet and paid up, "I told you he'd call first."

"Good call," Tony laughed, "I'm glad I didn't bet on that one though, I figured Robert would be the first to break. Look at the way he's acting, all goofy. I think he's stuck on this Don kid," he joked.

"I am not," I snapped back, "I'm just trying to be a good host, and...well, he called me...uh, us...so don't go making like I'm going after the kid."

"Relax love," Johnny said hugging me around the waist, "he was kidding, right Tony?"

"Yeah, but you sure are defensive," he said grinning, "but hey, it's okay...I get it, he's a cute guy, and that ass..." he said laughing, "I'm sure you guys saw that."

I blushed bright red, but I was grinning as I replied, "And I'm sure it's never had anything more than a finger in it, so don't go getting any ideas."

"Me?" Tony laughed, "I bet you beat off thinking about planting yo pecker in that tight hot hole."

"I refuse to answer that, besides I don't beat off anymore, I have Johnny and you guys to help me out."

"This kind of talk is fine now, but we really need to be cool while he's here," Caleb said, "we don't want to scare him off, if he wants to be more than friends, let him lead the way."

"This is crazy," I said shaking my head, "why do we assume every guy is interested in messing around, with guys? Some guys like girls you know?"

"Yeah, but it seems like we attract the other kind," Johnny laughed, "think about it, look at all the guys we've met who did like messing around with guys, with us."

"Well, maybe we give off some kind of vibe," Caleb suggested, "I mean, I knew about you and Johnny right off the bat. All I had to do was look at the way you two looked at each other," he laughed.

"Yeah, but that's love you're seeing, not lust," I laughed.

"Yeah, right...sometimes you looked like you wanted to rip each other's clothes off and do it right on the street."

"Well, we express our love with sex," I said in defense.

"Hey, don't get me wrong," Caleb said then, "I think what you two have is great, and I hope someday I can find someone that loves me with that same kind of love you two have."

"You will, but no harm in having some fun in the mean time," Tony said, "I'm sure not in any hurry to get tied down."

"Go, get washed up guys," I said again, "Don should be here any minute, I told him to come a little early."

While Tony and Caleb showered (together I might add) Johnny and I set the table, and by the time they'd returned, there was a knock on the door.

I had Johnny answer the door, hoping that I didn't appear too anxious to see Don again. When Johnny led him into the dining room I stuck out my hand and as he shook it he once again pulled me into a hug, just as he'd done at the Indian Village.

"Thanks for inviting me," Don said beaming, "something smells good."

"It's chicken casserole, my mom's recipe, and I make it almost as good as she does, even if I do say so myself."

"He's a great cook," Johnny said slapping me on the back, "while a lot of college students are eating in the student union, or eating takeout, or TV dinners, we have home cooking almost every night. We all pitch in though, I made the salad," he added proudly.

"I hope you're hungry," I said as we sat down to dinner that night, "I didn't have time to prepare a dessert, but we have ice cream and cookies if you want something sweet later."

"Sounds good, I love ice cream. You might not think it just looking at me, but I'm a big eater. I play football and I burn a lot of calories. I run too, usually in the mornings. I like running, but I don't go out for track cause that would make it more of a chore than fun, if you know what I mean."

"Ugh, I'm not much of an athlete," I said, "but Johnny played football in high school. My senior year I played some tennis, but I haven't played in a while."

"I love tennis, we should play sometime," Don said.

"Sure, maybe play some doubles, Johnny and Caleb play, and I bet Tony could pick it up in a few minutes, he's a natural talent," I said smiling at Tony.

"I've played before, when I was at Whitaker. The tennis courts were just across the road, and me and a friend used to walk down there and play."

"Great, so we should definitely do that sometime."

Don complimented everything from the ice tea to Johnny's salad, and he wasn't kidding when he said he ate a lot. He had two helpings of the casserole and finished off the salad and the last two rolls once everyone announced they were full.

Afterwards, while we cleared, Don told us a bit more about his family and we learned that he had two brothers, one older, one younger. The older brother was a Marine stationed in the Philippines, and his younger brother had just turned 12. His mom was a teacher at one of the grade schools in town, and they lived in one of the newer neighborhoods in town, a move they'd only recently made.

His father, Professor White Dove, was a seasoned and respected teacher at the College and had a reputation of being fair but tough. I was sorry I didn't have any of his classes, but would definitely look into them when the new session began next fall.

We moved to the living room to enjoy our dessert, and though it was a bit crowded, Don didn't seem to mind being crushed between Johnny and me.

We told Don a bit more about our lives, and he seemed very interested in Tony's story. As a minority himself, and someone who often faced prejudices, he seemed to be sympathetic to Tony's ordeal.

When I began to tell our story of how Johnny and I met and became friends, Don seemed especially attentive. He smiled when we talked about how we spent so much time at each other's house and that we felt like we had two moms and dads. When we told him about the separation, it was hard to tell him the reason, but I muddled through it, and then about the move and our second separation.

"That's where we met Caleb," Johnny said taking over then, and he told about how he and Caleb had met and the friendship the three of us had forged in no time flat.

"Wow, you guys are lucky to have so many friends," Don said, "I had one best friend before we moved but we sort of lost touch afterwards. My friend Billy I met at the Village, and we're pretty close now, but I really don't have that many friends outside of the guys I play football with."

"Well, you can add us four," I said smiling, "I know we're older, but we're cool," I laughed.

"Yeah, thanks. Thanks for making me feel so welcome here tonight. I know it might seem weird the way we met and all, but there was just something about you guys that made me want to get to know you better."

"Well, we sort of feel the same way too," I said for the others, "as far as we're concerned, we can never have too many friends."

"Yeah, but be warned, we're a crazy bunch of guys," Johnny laughed.

"How crazy?" Don chuckled, "do you guys party a lot?"

"Not a lot, but you know, this is college and there is always a party somewhere," I said. Was this what Don was interested in? Did he think we could get him into Frat parties or maybe buy him and his buddies beer and alcohol?

"Yeah, I'm not much for parties," Don confessed, "but then I haven't been to all that many. I like small get-togethers better, like this one," he said grinning.

"Just curious, where do your folks think you are right now?" I asked.

"Oh, just at a friend's house. No need to tell them too much stuff up front. I figure later, after we get to know each other better, I mean if we um, become friends, then I can tell them. I'm sure they'd approve, but no need to get them all excited for nothing, right?"

"You're 17, right?" I said thinking about what he'd just said.

"Well, yeah...in a month I will be," he said blushing.

"So we're only a little over a year apart, except for Caleb who's an old man at 19," I joked.

"Oh, you're older, cool," Tony said eying Caleb with a smile, "truthfully, I thought Tony was the oldest."

"I am more mature," Tony laughed, "these little boys just don't wanna grow up."

"Hell no, I'm never growing up," Johnny laughed, "being a grown up sucks."

"Yeah, sometimes it does," I agreed, "but my plan is to be an adult but still have fun."

"We will," Johnny said, surprising me by taking my hand and squeezing it gently.

"So...you two guys are....are um, together?" Don said as if Johnny had just confirmed his suspicions.

"Sorry Robert," Johnny said to me, "I sort of got carried away..."

"It's fine," I said patting his leg, "I'm not ashamed of our love."

"Wow, so you guys are like...boyfriends?" Don said in awe, "that's so rad."

"Yes, I confess. Johnny and I have been together since we were little kids, and somewhere along the way we fell in love, and one thing led to another till we became a couple. We've had our problems, but our love has always led us back to each other, and today our love is stronger than ever."

"Wow, so...cool. I thought maybe you two guys were more than just friends, but I didn't dare ask. I got decked one time for asking a guy if he liked boys," he laughed.

"So, that leads me to this question," I said smiling, " Don, do you like boys?"

Don looked stricken at first, then he raised his head and looked me squarely in the eye before replying, "I've known I was different since I was my little brother's age, maybe even before that. My older brother Gary was the first to figure it out and he had a long talk with me. He wasn't mad, and he didn't make me feel bad, he just told me to be careful because most people didn't understand stuff like that. Then he went off to the Marines and I had no one to talk to about that stuff. I'm sorry..." I don't mean to dump all this stuff on you," he said sounding near tears.

I put my arm around his shoulder and bumped heads with him, "It's fine, we know how you feel. It's not easy admitting you're different, but once you do, and once you accept who you are, it gets a whole lot easier. And just so you know, some parents accept their kids the way they are and don't freak out. Our folks know, and they're cool with us. My folks love Johnny like a son, and his folks treat me that way too."

"Really, I can't imagine my parents being that cool with me being...um, gay. Gosh it feels good to say the word. Gay, I'm gay," he laughed, "that's the first time I've ever really said it out loud, and you're right...it feels good."

"You never have to act like anyone but yourself around us," Caleb offered, "I'm gay too, and Tony, well...Tony likes both," he added chuckling.

"Really?" Don said giving Tony an appraising look.

I think it was at that moment that I realized that all night, all through dinner and now during our discussion that Don had been paying special attention to our black brother. I thought then about the way he'd reacted to Tony's life story and the adoration in his eyes. Oh my God, Don had a crush on Tony. My ego took a little hit then, after all, I'd thought it was me that Don had been interested in all this time, the reason he'd called and wanted to pursue a friendship with us. Well, maybe to some degree he wanted to get to know all of us, but the look he was giving Tony right now said he'd like to get to know Tony a whole lot better.

"I just like sex," Tony confessed, "and some guys are sexy as hell," he said giving Don a wink.

"Oh, yeah..." Don said blushing, "I know...I just...I never been with anyone...you know?"

"Never?" I said in horror, "not even some messing around with your buddies?"

"Well, you know...the usual stuff, but nothing serious, and not since I turned 14 or 15."

"So, still a virgin?" Caleb said, less a question and more a statement of fact.

"Yes," Don said blushing, "not by choice, it just never happened."

"Easily corrected," Tony said looking at Don like a fox eying a chicken.

"Yeah, umm...but it takes two," Don said nervously, "and I don't know anyone...um, who'd be willing."

I laughed. Was he hinting? "Oh, I know four guys who would be willing, but that might be a bit much for your first time."

"What do you mean?" Don said looking at his lap. He was so cute when he was embarrassed, but I decided it was time to let him off the hook, "Look, Don, I think it would be best if you found someone your own age, but we're here to talk you through this thing, and if it goes further, well...it will be your choice. I'm afraid the four of us don't have much self control when it comes to sex, and even Johnny and I play as long as it's together."

"Play?" Don said looking clueless, then getting it, he lowered his head again and blushed even deeper, "OH! Play...yeah, I get it. Really? I mean you don't get jealous?"

"No, as long as we play together there's no need to get jealous," Johnny said, "we love each other and that's all that matters at the end of the day, not where we got our rocks off, or with whom."

"Wow, that's so neat," Don said, "I don't know if I could be that understanding though. If I ever found someone and fell in love, I'd want them all to myself."

"And that's fine, in fact that's how it usually is, but with me and Johnny, we learned early to share our bodies with our friends and it just comes naturally now, right Johnny?"

"Yep, let me tell you about our friend Roger..." he said, and then launched into the story of how Roger had introduced us to sex, and how he'd moved away shortly after, never to be heard from again.

"Wow, I bet you guys miss him. I had a friend who moved away, but we wrote each other for awhile, then we just sort of stopped writing."

"We have a lot to thank Roger for," I said, "I don't think we'd be the same people we are today if it wasn't for him. Sometimes I miss him so much it hurts, but I like to think he has a whole new group of friends now and is making them as happy as he did us."

We chatted till almost 10 before Don suddenly said he needed to get home, that his curfew was 10:30 on school nights and he didn't want to be late, just in case we invited him back.

"Of course you're invited back," I said smiling, "Tony, why don't you walk Don to his pickup, while Johnny and I take care of our dessert dishes?"

"Sure," Tony said giving me a wink, "don't forget your jacket," he said to Don, who just nodded as he accepted the garment from Tony.

In the kitchen, Johnny and I collapsed in laughter, "Oh my God, did you see Don's eyes light up when I suggested Tony walk him out?"

"Yeah, doesn't take a mind reader to figure out what's on Don's mind. He's got it bad for Tony. But, can you blame him? Our brother is hot, not to mention hung like a pony. I wonder if Don can handle that, although from the bulge in his jeans, he's no light weight in that area either."

"I thought I was the only one who noticed," I said, "and that butt of his, wow...it's one of the top ten butts I've ever seen."

"I hope mine is in that top ten," Johnny teased.

"Oh, darlin'," I said with a southern accent, "yo butt is number one, sugga'."

"Yours ain't so bad either, how about we go make love to each other's butt?" he laughed.

"Definitely, but first I want a full report from Tony."

Tony was gone about ten minutes, and as soon as he came through the door Johnny and I were on him. Caleb had gone on to bed, apparently not as curious as we were.

"Well, did you give him a goodnight kiss and squeeze that butt?" Johnny joked.

"Boy is a hugger, that's for sure," Tony said grinning, "and he was hard as a rock and didn't mind me knowing it. He was practically grinding into me as he hugged me."

"He's hot for you," I said, "he's definitely got a crush on you, or at least lusting after your body."

"Could be a problem though," Tony said, his smile fading, "what with me being black and all."

"What difference does that make?" I said, even though I knew what he meant. But still, Don was American Indian, so they were both sort of minorities. In fact there had been a lot of inbreeding in the old days between blacks and Native Americans, and most whites didn't seem to mind that.

"I just don't want to get serious that's all. Messing around is fine, we can have some fun, but I think it might be best if you guys were there too. If it happens."

"Hmm, well...like I said, that would be up to Don, but I think you're overthinking this. I'm not saying Don is in love with you, he just finds you attractive and wants to get to know you better. Being a virgin, he's probably not ready for more than that now anyway."

"I don't know, he seemed pretty eager," Tony said, "for a minute I thought he was gonna kiss me."

"Oh," I said grinning, "and would you have let him?"

"Well...I guess it woulda been the polite thing to do, but I don't want the boy falling in love with me just yet, and you know how powerful my kisses are?" he said grinning.

"Yes, we do," I laughed, "are you okay, or do you need to join us tonight after Don worked you up and left you high and dry?" I teased.

"I promised Caleb I'd come visit him, but thanks. You guys go do what you do best," he said grinning, "make noisy love."

"Are we really that noisy?" I laughed.

"Oh Johnny, deeper, harder, ohhhhh, I love you sooo much!!" he mocked.

"I don't sound like that," I said blushing, but he was right, I was noisy when we had the opportunity. It was one of the things I liked about having our own place. Back home we'd had to be more subdued when we made love, but here we could really let go."

"Yes, you do," Johnny laughed, "but I love it. Goodnight Tony," he said giving our brother a hug and a quick peck on the lips, "umm...you do kiss nice."

"Hey, save some for me," I said hugging Tony and kissing him properly, "I love you, even if you are mean," I said slapping him gently.

"Goodnight you two," Tony laughed, "have fun, I intend to. That boy got me all worked up," he muttered as he headed to Caleb's room.

Johnny and I were extra loud that night, and I heard Tony and Caleb laughing all the way downstairs. We plowed each other hard that night, and I forgot all about Don and Tony, and the world in general as we danced the dance of love. We were sweaty and sticky when we'd finished, and after resting a while we got up and took a quick shower before settling back into the sheets.

We lay there talking softly about everything and nothing, and soon we drifted off to sleep, not waking till the alarm rousted us out at 8 a.m. the next morning.

The rest of the week passed quickly, and before we knew it, it was time to pack for our trip home. We hadn't heard from Don since he's joined us for dinner, but Tony said he'd seen him driving near the campus, but that he didn't stop. Was he stalking Tony? I wondered, or perhaps he'd been to see his dad.

The night before we were to leave, Don called and I could tell by his voice that he was nervous about something. We chatted for awhile, but his head didn't seem to be in it, and eventually he asked me if Tony was there.

"No, sorry...he and Caleb went out for a while. I can have him call you if you want."

"No, that's okay. Umm, I was wondering, do you think Tony likes me?"

"Well, sure...we all do, but that's not what you mean, is it? You mean is he into you, right?"

"Yeah, I mean...I thought he'd call me by now. Does he think I'm too young or something? Does my being a virgin turn him off?"

"No, and no. But I think the one you really need to talk to is Tony. What are you doing right now? Can you come over? Tony will be back in an hour or so and you two could talk."

"Uh, I don't know. I'm kinda nervous," Don said, but I could tell he really wanted to see Tony again, even if things weren't exactly like he wanted them to be.

"Come on, you'll never know if you don't talk to him. We're leaving in the morning and we won't be back till after New Year's, so if you don't talk to him now, you're going to have to wait till then."

"Okay, I guess I'll come then," he said sighing, "but I'm so nervous."

"Relax, Tony is as nice a guy as you'll ever meet, "and he's easy to talk to."

"Okay, I'll be there in about fifteen minutes then," Don said, then he said goodbye and hung up.

A few minutes later, Tony and Caleb made a noisy entrance and I peeked around the corner from the kitchen and greeted them.

"Hey guys, guess who's coming over in a bit?"

"Who? Don?" Caleb said grinning, "Tony will like that."

"Shut up," Tony said, but he was grinning, "uh, what's up with him?"

"He just wants to talk to you, okay? I think he thinks you don't like him or something cause you haven't called him."

"Jeezes," he moaned, "I told you he had it bad for me. What am I gonna do?"

"Just be honest with him," I suggested, "but let him down easy. Tell him how you feel, but be kind. If you're not interested in being more than his friend, tell him so."

"I'm just not looking for a boyfriend, you know?" Tony said frowning, "Sure, I wouldn't mind messing around some, but I'm afraid if we did he'd think there was more to it than sex."

"Well, we'll help anyway we can, right guys, but ultimately this is between you and Don."

"I guess," Tony said shaking his head in dismay, "when's he coming?"

"That depends on you," Caleb laughed.

"Smart ass," Tony said, but he was smiling.

A knock on the door answered Tony's question however, and Caleb rushed to let Don in. Don was dressed in brown corduroy flare bottom jeans and a denim jacket that was open, revealing a brown and red plaid corduroy flannel shirt beneath. His hair was hung straight, but the wind had blown it a bit and his cheeks were red from the cold.

"Hi," he said once he was inside, "It's really cold out there."

"Yeah, maybe we'll have a white Christmas," I joked, as if we ever had.

"I hope so," Don said nervously, then seeing Tony, he gave him a shy smile, "Hi Tony."

"Hey, how you doin'?" Tony said, sounding almost as nervous as Don.

"Good, I'm good. How are you doing?"

"Good, yeah...good. So, any plans for Christmas?"

"Oh, well...we're going to my grandparents' house, they live in Muskogee. Uh, Robert says you guys are going back home for Christmas."

"Yeah, we're going to be gone till after New Years. We're gonna have a New Year's Eve party at our house. Nothing too wild you know, but all our friends there in town will be there, and maybe a few other people."

"Sounds fun," Don said fidgeting with his jacket buttons.

"Tony, why don't you show Don your room and you guys can talk?" I suggested, seeing that Tony wasn't going to make the first move.

"Oh yeah, okay," Tony said giving me a grateful look, "sure, this way Don, my room is upstairs."

Once they were gone, I looked at Caleb and smiled, "I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Tony's room right now."

"We could sneak upstairs and listen at the door," Johnny suggested as he moved up behind me and encircled my waist with his strong arms.

"Mmm, I feel something hard against my butt," I said, forgetting Tony and Don.

"I can't help it when I'm around you," he said nuzzling my neck playfully.

"Get a room you two," Caleb teased, "speaking of rooms, I'm going to go to mine and see if I can hear anything through the wall."

"Be careful, don't spook them," I teased, "they really need to have this talk."

"Talk, I thought they were going up there to fool around," Caleb said looking surprised, "what's going on?"

So, I filled Caleb in on my conversation with Don, and afterwards he shook his head and frowned, "Poor kid, but I wonder if Tony isn't fighting his feelings a bit. I mean, a couple of times when we were alone he's mentioned Don, and he didn't seem upset or worried. In fact, I got the impression he'd like to see him again."

"Hmm, well...it's up to them to work this one out," I said, "and I just hope neither of them gets hurt in the process."

Eventually, Johnny and I went off to our room, leaving Caleb in the living room watching TV. Despite what he'd said earlier, he didn't go upstairs to his room out of respect for Tony's privacy.

I heard noise on the stairs and a few minutes later I heard the front door close, and I jumped out of bed and walked into the living room to find Tony leaning against the front door.

"Oh, hey." I said, pretending I hadn't been waiting for Don to leave so I could talk to him.

"Hey," Tony chuckled, "What? You wondering what went on or something?"

"A little," I said grinning, "but it's your business, and I understand if you don't want to talk about it."

"Nah, I don't mind, but I'd rather sleep on it and tell all of you together tomorrow. Is that okay."

No!! I wanted to scream, but of course I didn't. "That's fine, yeah...that's probably best.  I know Johnny and Caleb are wondering what happened too."

"Okay, well goodnight," Tony said giving me a brief hug, "but just so you know," he whispered in my ear, "we didn't do anything dirty," he chuckled as he broke away.

"Oh, well...I figured that," I said blushing, even though I wouldn't have minded at all if they had, "Goodnight, see you in the morning," I said as I watched him head upstairs.

"Well, did you get all the dirt?" Johnny chuckled as I returned to our bedroom.

"No, the dog wouldn't tell me anything. He said he'd tell us tomorrow while we're all together."

"Well, I guess I can wait, but I know it's killing you," he chuckled.

"He did say they didn't do anything dirty, so I guess all they did was talk. Probably let the kid down easy, that's all."

"Well, we'll find out tomorrow. But right now, maybe you and me can do some dirty stuff," he said in a lust filled voice.

"Absolutely," I said, reaching down to find he was already hard and ready, "oh, for me?"

"All for you," he moaned, "every inch of it..."

We skipped breakfast and picked up donuts and milk on the way, and by 9 we were on the road to Pryor. I'd decided not to nag Tony and to let him tell us his news when he was ready, when he still hadn't spoke up fifteen minutes into the trip, I was finding it harder and harder to keep quiet. Then at long last he began.

"I guess you all are wondering what went on with Don and me last night," he said from the second seat which he shared with Caleb.

"Tell us," Caleb laughed, "and don't leave out any of the juicy details," he teased.

"Weren't no juicy details," Tony said rolling his eyes, "we just talked, that's all."

"So...what did he say? What did you say?" I said, unable to hold back any longer.

"Well, I was right, boy has it bad for me. He told me straight up that he couldn't quit thinkin' bout me and that he'd never felt that way about anyone before."

"Oh, man...what did you say?" I said, hoping he hadn't broken that boy's heart.

"I'll tell you if you'll settle down," Tony laughed, "I told him that I barely knew him, that we'd just met, but that I'd like to get to know him better, and maybe become friends. But I didn't promise him anything more than that. Way he acted though, you'd a thought I'd said we was gettin' married or something. I worry that he may be expecting too much, but I was honest with him. I told him I didn't feel that way about him right now, that stuff like that took time, and a crush was just a crush and not true love."

"I am so proud of you," I gushed, "I knew you'd do the right thing. So, he wasn't disappointed then?"

"Nah, I told him I'd call him when we got back to town and the two of us could go out to eat or something."

"Cool, that's cool," I said happily, "I hope this works out for you guys. If nothing else you can become good friends."

"I just hope that's enough for him," Tony sighed, "but then who knows what might happen. Maybe I'll fall for him," he chuckled.

"Well, you couldn't find a nicer, sexier boy," I said, "and it doesn't hurt that he worships the ground you walk on," I teased.

"I don't know bout that, but he does seem to be crushing pretty hard."

"That's great," Caleb said finally, "too bad though, I was hoping we'd all get to see what he's packing," he teased.

"Well, that's up to him," Tony said, "I ain't got no claims on him, and if he wants to do some fooling around with you guys, or all of us, that's fine too."

"Maybe when we get back we can have a little party and invite Don," Johnny suggested, "you know? one of our special parties that involves getting naked?"

"Might be a bit too soon for that," I said, "but we'll see how their date goes," I teased.

"It's not a date," Tony said, then realizing the absurdity of that, he said, "Oh shit, it is a date isn't it. I asked him on a date," he groaned.

"Well, it's got to start somewhere," I chuckled, "anyway, I think you're worrying too much. Just relax and enjoy. Meanwhile we have two weeks of fun and relaxation ahead of us."

"Yeah, not to mention Santy Clause will be coming to see us," Johnny chuckled.

"Ho ho ho!" Tony said, and we all laughed, never had we heard a worse imitation of the jolly old fat man.
