A TALE OF TWO BOYBANDS

CHAPTER VII

**

Brian ran to Kevin, helping his cousin off the ground. They looked ahead of them and without saying a single word, they each knew how one another felt. Justin had helped carried JC to join the rest of his bandmates. They arrived at their dressing room and they all gathered around Justin, embracing him and not wanting to let go him anymore. After several minutes of a fond display of affection among five hot young men, the guys dispersed. Joey tossed Justin his attire for the evening's performance. Justin took his clothes and went into a separate dressing room. He returned with the clothes Brian had gotten him in his hands. Brian expected Justin to discard the clothes in the nearest trash can he could find. Instead, Justin stuffed the clothes in his duffle bag, which brought a smile to Brian's face. At least he kept the clothes. There was nothing else Brian could ask for. Kevin, on the other hand, had a harder time accepting JC's unique relationship with Justin. Seeing JC's well-groomed thin appearance turned more anorexic and scrubby only brought tears to Kevin's eyes whenever he looked at his ex-lover. The turmoil surrounding Justin's disappearance had taken a toll of the young man.

After their performance for the Tonight Show, JC collapsed in Justin's arms as they exited the studios. Justin became an emotional wreck as tears flow down his flawless face like a stream. The rest of 'N Sync rushed to JC's aid and helped carry him to the bus before the fans would arrive. Inside the bus, Justin finally was able to compose himself when JC appeared to regain consciousness. He wiped away his tears with the sleeves of his shirt. He didn't want JC to see him the way he was.

JC's eyes slowly fluttered open. He opened them slowly and looked into the deepest blue eyes he had ever seen- those ocean like eyes he had prayed to see again and again. He grabbed onto Justin's hand and pulled them closer to each other. He wanted to hear Justin's heart beating against his. He wanted them to become closer again. Now that he had Justin back, he was never going to let go. Justin felt JC's strong hands running along his back and up towards the back of his neck as JC buried his face into his chest. Justin just sat, letting JC held him tightly. He looked ahead and caught the torment in Brian's eyes. A teardrop fell down his flawless face. JC looked up when the teardrop touched his arm.

"Just, what's wrong, buddy?" JC asked, wiping away the tears underneath Justin's eyes.

"I'm just so thrilled to see you and the rest of the guys." Justin cried. "I thought I'd never see you guys again."

The 'N Sync men gathered around for yet another group hug, excluding Brian and Kevin. Not once, did anyone acknowledge their presence. They were so wrapped up in themselves and getting Justin back, which was understandable to both Kevin and Brian.

Kevin and Brian found themselves alone in their hotel room. No one had come to see them or make any meager attempts at thanking them for their effortless hard work in bringing their little angel back to them. Kevin began to slip into bed as did Brian. First thing tomorrow, they would return back to their homebase in Florida. Whether or not they would be welcomed into the group was a question yet to be answered. They turned off the lights and dozed off to sleep.

The next morning Kevin woke to see a letter taped to the door. He opened the letter and immediately recognized the chicken scratch. JC might be gifted in music, but handwriting was another issue. JC wrote in the letter, asking Kevin to meet him later at night. Kevin ran to JC's room. He stood in front of the door and contemplated about going in. He knocked three times and no answer. After another series of knock, Chris popped out of his room, his hair up in the air.

"He's gone." Chris informed Kevin. "Out with Justin doing some bonding ritual. Don't be expecting them until nightfall. I swear those two are lovers sent from above." Chris yawned, rubbing his eyes to take a better look at the man standing before. "Oops, my bad. Sorry, Kevin. I didn't know it was you. I thought you were someone else. Never mind what I just said. JC's probably dragging Justin to some wooded area to spank him for running off by himself. He tries to be Justin's mommy while Lynn is gone."

Kevin stared inimically at Chris, disgusted with him toying with his emotions. Of the guys in 'N Sync, Chris was the only one who knew of his relationship with JC. Chris, being the genius that he was, was able to put one and one together and knew within months of their affair that they were together. Of course, he walked in on JC and Kevin making love one night. Chris smirked and then returned to his room.

Kevin chose to ignore Chris and left the hotel. He had no idea where to go. He just had to go somewhere. He waved down a taxi and told the driver to just drive. He needed the time alone to gather his thoughts. Was it over for him and JC? Was there anything else he could do to win JC back? Then he remembered the instant moment that JC risked his life to save Justin's while leaving him abandoned to save himself. It is over. Kevin thought. He looked out the window and spotted Brian sitting on a bench in front of some bookstore. He looked across the street in the same direction Brian had been staring intensely for god knows how many hours. He told the driver to stop and parked. He returned to look at Brian as his head sunk down in his hands. He looked across the street and coming out of a trendy men's store were Justin and JC. No obvious signs of romance, but love was definitely there between the two as they laughed joyously in the presence of one another. That Kevin could never know or understand.

While he was with JC, they never shared a laugh. It was always serious. How could they stop and smell the roses when they were forced to keep their love a secret as their two groups were at war. Kevin returned to his hotel room and within a few minutes Brian soon joined him. They brushed by one another and lay down on their bed watching the seconds tick away. They both couldn't stay in LA a minute longer, but they both wanted to say their good-byes before leaving. They were lying on their beds when they heard skipping footsteps down the hallway. They jumped off their beds and followed the footsteps into a larger room. They round the corner and saw their fellow bandmates.

"What are you doing?" Brian asked, grabbing onto AJ's silk shirt. "Haven't you caused enough turmoil?"

AJ pried off Brian's grasp and straightened his shirt. He looked Brian straight in the eyes. "That is a question I should be asking you. But not now, we have business to take care of." AJ said, before walking into the laughter filled room.

"Hi, everyone." Nick said.

Joey, Chris, and Lance continued playing monopoly when AJ stepped in front of Nick and made their presence known. "Hey, guys. Great sales this first week!"

Joey, Chris, and Lance looked up simultaneously. Shock was an understatement as their jaws dropped at the sight of the Backstreet Boys, their arch nemeses standing above them.

"How's my boy, Justin?" AJ asked them.

"Took you long enough. Since he fell ill, 98 degrees came the other day bearing gifts and flowers. Heck even the guys from Five called to express their concerns." Chris said.

"Hey, man!" AJ's eyes shot open. He was in shock. He couldn't even find the words to say next. "We just thought it was another crap the publicist pulled out to cover up Justin's rendevous with Britney."

Chris looked up at the Backstreeet Boys. Chris chuckled seeing that the Boys were beyond shocked. "Got you! I'm kidding. Jeez, I know that you guys were busy touring Europe or something. And hey, if it was me, I would have thought the same too after those countless sightings of Britney and Justin together. I was starting to feel as if we added a female singer to the band. She was always around. She and her huge ass were getting in the way of everything."

AJ along with his bandmates breathed in a sigh of relief. They thought Chris had figured them out. They thought Chris had peeled away their thick (I mean thick) skin and revealed them for who they were. Thank goodness for humor- even bad humor. They laughed at one another and Chris walked up to Howie, exchanging greetings. Brian pushed AJ aside and sat down among the rival band members.

Brian watched as his bandmates chatted with the members of 'N Sync as if the whole Justin kidnapping event never occurred. He was becoming more enraged as they laughed louder and louder. He got up on his feet and was ready to walk out when the door swung open. JC walked in the room with a bag in one hand. JC stepped out of the way and entered after him was the most strikingly exquisite young man. His hair cut short but with enough curls to add to his adonis beauty hidden underneath an orange turtleneck sweater.

Justin had been beautiful while he was with Brian, but today he was looking even more alluring as if the filth he was forced to experience was washed away. All eyes gazed at the youth with several shopping bags in his hands.

AJ jumped on his feet. He leapt across the room toward Justin, taking a hold of him, while massaging his back. "How are you doing, buddy?" AJ asked.

Justin just stood as his eyes met with the familiar dark eyes. Suddenly, he was stricken with painful flashbacks of the past several days.

"AJ." Was all Justin could murmur before AJ quickly turned the boy around and delivered him into the arms of his bandmate, Nick Carter.

"Hey, Justin. I was getting worried about you. I thought I would have to fend off all those fans of yours as well." Nick said, bringing Justin in for another embrace.

Justin dropped the shopping bags and excused himself. He suddenly became ill. He made his escape halfway toward his room when his arm was yanked from his body. He turned around and found Kevin, holding onto to him.

"What do you want?" Justin asked, trying to get away.

"I just wanted to check up on you. You, okay?" Kevin asked.

"Yeah. I'm okay. I'm just a bit tired, that's all. JC dragged me out at the crack of dawn so we could go shopping and not missed some important interviews."

"Every interview is important." Kevin smiled.

"I know what you mean." Justin couldn't help, but agree with him. "Kevin, tell the rest of the guys I'm going to bed. Tell them not to worry. I'm okay."

"I will." Kevin assured him. "Now go to bed. And whatever you're feeling, it's in your head. We're here for you, each and every one of us."

Kevin returned to join everyone else in the room. They continued chatting as if they were the best of friends catching up on old times. However, everyone in that room knew their friendship was far from the truth. During the time, Kevin looked around and found JC missing. Kevin quietly excused himself and walked the same path JC walked. He could still smell JC's scent on the carpeted floor as he walked down the hall to a slightly opened room. He didn't have to come in to see whose room it was. He knew immediately it was Justin's room. He knew that JC couldn't go on too long without Justin being near. Kevin closed the door slowly as if not to disturb their time together. He rounded the corner and found a utility room to hide in. He leaned against the wall and slumped to the floor. He cried for several minutes just reminiscing over fond memories when they were one. He couldn't help, but felt cheated out of their relationship. They were doomed from the start. Two star crossed lovers who could never be one so long as they were who they were. At the end, Kevin chose to be Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys and JC chose to be JC Chasez of 'N Sync. As JC risked his life to save his beloved Justin, Kevin came to the realization that any remaining hopes of reviving their relationship were gone. Their relationship died that day as well as Kevin's heart. There was no turning back. Only moving forward on the path of life.

Kevin picked himself from walked back to his room. He didn't once look up as he made his way to his bed. He lay down on his bed to take a nap. It seemed like forever or maybe Kevin wanted it to be forever. He woke up as the sun set and found three pair of eyes piercing at him.

"Hello, stranger."

***Who was talking to Kevin? Okay, like the chapters before, these next several chapters will follow the same pace. No beating around the bush- everything will happen very quickly. So, tune in to another installment of "A Tale of Two Boybands" in the next few days. Again, please email me. I'd love to hear comments and feedbacks. Would it help if I allow hatemails? Just a thought. ThanksJ
