Chapter 5 -- Shopping Experience

After Chad had provided the information that Mr. Long had requested, Grandmother went into overdrive. "Okay, here's what we are going to do; Kendra and Kevin, get your bottoms in gear. We're going to take my great grandson and get him and his sons some new clothes. Michael and Douglas, you are responsible for Mark and Jon. If anything happens to them, we'll all be after you."

"Everyone meet back here in the living room in 20 minutes and we will go make it so that my great grandson can be accepted into the royal court."

Kevin gave Chad some clothes to wear so he looked like your normal teenager. Grandmother was very determined and she knew exactly what she wanted. She looked at me, "Douglas, give the keys to your van to Kevin, so he can drive us to the Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines. We should be able to get everything we need right there. Come on people, time is wasting. Oh by the way, we probably won't be back until after lunch."

I looked at Michaels's parents and his sister and her husband and they looked like they were shell shocked. Grandmother wasn't finished, "Pete and Frank, see if you can arrange to meet with the Harmons and the Davises tomorrow. We need to get this mess squared away as soon as possible."

With that ultimatum, Grandmother left with Kevin, Kendra and Chad. Poor Chad had no idea what he was about to experience.

They arrived at the Von Maur store and Grandmother took them directly to the men's department. She announced, "I want to make sure that my great grandson has the proper clothes to meet any dignitaries if he is required to do so. Poor Chad was measured and fitted for a blue blazer and two pair of dress slacks. He also had to have two ties and three dress shirts, just in case. Grandmother told Kevin to find enough underwear and socks so that Chad could go a week without doing laundry.

Chad tried to object but Grandmother wasn't in the mood to stand for any backtalk. They finally had everything that Grandmother felt was essential and she directed, "Kevin, take the handsome Daddy here and get him all of the other clothes that he will need to be a typical teenager. Kendra and I have things to do in the children's department. We'll be back in thirty minutes." She turned to the young man who had been helping Chad, "I'll pay for everything when I get back."

Chad was beginning to realize that he couldn't win, so he carefully selected a few more pieces of clothing. Kevin admonished him, "Chad, just relax. Grandmother Walker is not going to be happy if we don't do as she asked us to do. I don't know what Grandma Walker's financial status is, but she must be okay to do what she is doing. Now get with it. I sure don't want to be in her doghouse."

Chad finally relented and had a sizeable pile of clothes when Grandmother and Kendra returned loaded with packages. Grandmother looked at what Chad and Kevin had picked out, "Not too bad for two teenage boys; but I thought you might have chosen some additional things. I guess we will just have to take care of the deficiencies when we return home." Grandmother turned to the young man and handed him her debit card. The young man had a huge smile.

After the purchases had been placed into bags, Grandmother mandated that the three teenagers should take all of the purchases to the van, "I am going to rest on the bench outside of the door. When you are finished, meet me there. We still have some more things to do."

Kevin and Kendra were enjoying this adventure but Chad was overwhelmed to say the least.

When the teenagers returned and met up with Grandmother, she was making a list on a pad. "Next stop, the shoe store over there."

They walked in and Grandmother in her own inevitable way took charge, "Young man, please measure my grandson's foot so we can get him some proper shoes."

The gentleman measured Chad's foot and Grandmother was on a roll. "Chad needs a pair of dress loafers in both black and brown. He needs some casual shoes that he can wear to school and a pair of running shoes. I am sure that he will be running with his Dads before too long. We have to get some muscle on him first."

The poor gentleman had no idea what to expect. Chad started to protest, but both Kevin and Kendra shook their heads to indicate that he should just accept what Grandmother was doing. They left the shoe store and went to the van. Grandmother wasn't finished yet. "Kevin, I know a neat restaurant that isn't too far away. I don't want any of that fast food stuff like they have in the food court. I can eat that crap any day."

Grandmother directed Kevin to a quaint little restaurant. When they entered, they were greeted by a lady, "Good afternoon Mrs. Walker, I didn't know you were in town. You usually call for reservations."

"Gloria, this was a spur of the moment visit. We had to get my Grandson some new clothes so he is properly dressed for school when it resumes in January. I hope you can accommodate us."

Mike and I were to find out later that Chad's mind was in overdrive. The party was seated and Grandmother dictated, "There will be no hamburgers or French fries. We are eating healthy. You can have those greasy foods when I am not around."

When Chad saw the prices on the menu, he said, "I'll just have a cup of the chicken noodle soup."

Grandmother took charge; she looked at the waitress, "What he meant to say was that he wanted a bowl of the chicken noodle soup and a deluxe club sandwich. I'll have the same except I'll have a regular club sandwich. Kevin and Kendra, what would you like?"

Chad started to complain and Kevin and Kendra both kicked him under the table. Chad was so surprised that he said nothing more.

While they were eating, Grandmother had some thoughts that she shared, "Chad, when you go back to school, you are going to need a computer and a place to study. We'll have to see how we can configure Mike and Doug's house to take care of your needs."

Chad started to protest, "Grandmother, I will need to go to work so I can support the needs of my sons. There is no way that I can go back to high school."

Grandmother looked at Kevin and Kendra. Kendra spoke up, "Chad, you need to go back to school so you can support your two sons. Otherwise you will be slinging hamburgers or pumping gas for the rest of your days and the three of you will never have a very good life. Besides, Uncle Mike and Uncle Doug will be glad to help you, as I am sure Grandma Walker will be."

Grandmother was a little surprised and pleased by what happened next. Both Kevin and Kendra got up and hugged Chad, Kevin spoke for the two of them, "Chad, your Grandmother has spoken. You will be going back to school. Now just accept that you are a wonderful caring person who made a little mistake which produced some beautiful results. How many people can have two wonderful sons to carry on their name? I am sure that Uncle Mike and Uncle Doug will be there to support you every step of the way as will Grandma Walker. Now, eat your lunch and stop sniveling."

The rest of lunch went pretty much as Grandmother planned and after a big dessert, the three of them made their way back to Ames. Chad was noticeably quiet. The other three occupants of the van decided that it would be best not to force him to participate. They wisely decided that he needed some downtime.

When they arrived at the Long's house, the three teenagers unloaded the van and Grandmother started to take sales tags off of the clothes before Chad realized what she was doing. She started a load of light clothes. It was interesting to watch Chad. After the van was unloaded, he immediately went to check on Jon and Mark. He picked them up and held them, even though they were not fussing. I watched as he kissed them both and put them back in their bassinette. Everyone who was watching had tears in their eyes.

Chad went to Grandmother, "Grandma, I am overwhelmed by what you have done for me and the boys today. I don't know how I will ever be able to repay you."

Grandmother was almost crying, "Chad, just please promise me that you will be the best person you can be."

The rest of Mike's family members were watching what was going on and they too were becoming caught up in the emotion that Chad had to be feeling. Chad stood, "Please excuse me, I need some time to think."

Chad started for the stairs and turned and came back and picked up the two bassinettes and disappeared up the steps. Grandmother looked at me and Mike and indicated without words that we need to go check on Chad.

We went to the room where Chad and Kevin were sleeping and knocked. There was no answer but we heard someone sobbing. Mike knocked again and still no answer. Mike opened the door and Chad was sitting on the bed holding Jon and Mark and he had tears streaming down his face.

Mike and I sat on either side of him and put our arms around him. He finally looked at us and acknowledged that we were there. "Mr. Long and Mr. Walker, please take me back to Iowa City. I don't belong here. Grandma Walker shouldn't be spending all of her money on me and the boys."

Mike and I each took one of the boys, who were asleep, and put them into their bassinettes. I grabbed Chad and held him. I had no idea what I could say to him, but the words started to pour out of my mouth, "Mr. Harmon, for your information, Grandmother is very financially sound and can well afford what she has done so far. I am impressed that you should care enough to be concerned."

I turned his face to me, "How come yesterday and earlier today, we were Dad Mike and Dad Doug and now we're Mr. Long and Mr. Walker?"

That was all that was needed to break the dam and Chad started to openly cry. Both Mike and I held him as tight as we could. Chad finally started to settle down. He tried to pull away but both Mike and I had a firm grip on him. "Dads, can we talk about something?"

Mike and I looked at each other, wondering what was coming. Chad glanced at the two of us, "Dads, I need to tell you what happened last night. I was repelled and excited by what was happening. Kevin and I were in bed and after we fed the two boys in the middle of the night, Kevin put his hands in the bikini briefs I was wearing and started to play with my cock, penis or whatever you want to call it; and it felt really good. I asked him to stop and he did even though I secretly didn't want him to."

I guess Chad was expecting us to react and neither of us did, because Mike had told me about his discussion with Kevin earlier today. Chad was looking bewildered, "Mr. Long and Mr. Walker aren't you going to yell at me and tell me how evil I am for enjoying another male touching my sexual organ?"

Mike and I both lost it and started to laugh. Chad was offended and tried to stand, "Why are you laughing at me?"

Mike pulled Chad back onto the bed, "Chad, we are not laughing at you, but with you. Just think what you just asked Doug and me. We are probably two of the last people on Earth who would ridicule you. Now would you please relax and listen to us? It is only natural that you explore your sexuality, but we do ask that you not have anal sex with another male until you decide that is really the life style that you would like to follow."

Chad looked at us, "So you are saying that I can mess around with Kevin and you wouldn't hate me?"

Mike and I answered in unison, "Chad, we would rather that you enjoy sex with Kevin than with Kendra. We already have two grandsons and we don't need anymore right now, or we won't have room enough in the house to accommodate you all. Perhaps we can visit with you and Kevin later and discuss what is happening."

Mike and I picked up the bassinettes with the sleeping boys and went back to the living room, "Chad will be down shortly. He just needed a little reflection time."

Kevin couldn't quite handle that statement, "What do you mean reflection time?"

Mike took the ball, "He just needs to reflect on the fact that a star pulled him to Grandma Walker's house and introduced him to a wonderful world of loving, caring people."

We were sitting visiting when Mr. Long and Frank came into the room. Mike's Dad started, "Okay, its set. We are to meet Chad's ex-parents at 11:00 and then the Davises at 1:00. They really sound like delightful people and I say that with my tongue in my cheek. We'll leave at 8:00 in the morning. Chad, I would like you to wear the clothes that you arrived in so they don't get any ideas about what is happening."

Frank spoke up, "Mike, I think it would be advisable if you stayed here with the boys. If they even sniffed that something might be up with you and Doug, the entire process could go south in a hurry. We think it is advisable that they not see Jon and Mark or they might change their minds. Chad, it would be really good if you could look like you are going to cry if your parents and the Davises are around that might be helpful."

Kevin couldn't stand it, "Don't worry Dad, he does that really well."

There was a spark that we had not seen in Chad previously. He jumped up and pulled Kevin onto the floor, "Just for that, mister, you get to sleep in the bathtub tonight. I am not sleeping with anyone who bad mouths me in front of my sons."

The two guys were wrestling until one of the twins started to whine. Kevin was having a field day, "Oh yeah, the twins need to protect their Daddy from their mean ogre Uncle."

Mike and I looked at the assembled adults. They all seemed to be laughing as the three teenagers took the two infants to the kitchen.

The Wilkins looked at us and Elaine said, "There is more going on here than we know about, right? Kendra and Kevin are vying for Chad's attention and he is oblivious to what is happening.

I looked at everyone, "I think that Chad is on overload. He is not sure of what is happening anymore, but he is concerned about his two beautiful little sons. Just think about it; if you had been thrown out by two families and wound up having a wicked Grandmother who spoiled you rotten, how would you feel?"

Grandmother caught me by surprise. She threw a throw pillow at me, "You ain't seen anything wicked yet. Wait until I get finished with Chad's parents and his in-laws. I can not understand for the love of me why or how they could be so calloused that they couldn't love those three boys. They are so innocent, even Chad."

Chad lightened the mood when he returned, "The three of us are going to fix dinner, is that okay Grandma Long? It will be something simple and we will use the left over ham."

I think everyone was beginning to realize how special Chad was.

Editor's Notes:

Oh yes I would say there is no doubt at all that Chad is very special.

I can hardly wait to see just what is going to happen when Grandma gets here hooks into those parental units. I have a feeling that she will simply mop the floor with them. She reminds me of Mrs. Tillison. You go, Girl!
