A Life So Changed 02

I blinked my eyes open, or at least tried too. The room I was in only had one light on, but it was enough for me to squint. Automatically I knew where I was: the hospital. I've been here before; broken arm, leg wound, shoulder fracture. The smell was the same, the look of the rooms, and the atmosphere was so familiar to me.

"Hey,"

I hadn't even noticed Jared sitting next to me, holding my hand. "Jared..." I said dryly. My throat hurt even worse than I remember.

"Shh, I'll get you some ice chips." he said tenderly, brushing hair out of my face. I could tell he had been crying tremendously. Jared wipes his tears away which isn't the right way to do it, if you want to hide it anyways. You see, the trick is to pat your eyes, that way your eyes won't get irritated and puffy and red. That's the way I do it, but he still knows when I do cry. "Here, suck on a couple of these." He fed me some chips and he was right, they did help. Then he again sat in the chair off to the next to my bed and resumed holding my hand.

"Thanks," I managed to mumble out. "How long have I been asleep?"

He turned his head away from me before turning back around with tears flooding his eyes. "Um, today is your third day. It's Tuesday, one in the morning." Jared was doing his best not to sob, but he eventually let it out. I pulled him into me for a hug. "I was so worried about you. When the paramedics put you on the stretcher I...I just lost it. I couldn't breathe, couldn't think."

"I'm sorry you were so worried." I said. Three days? I can't believe this. My own father disciplined me so bad he put me in the hospital. Why? What have I done that's been so God damn bad?

He sniffled and said, "It's okay, it wasn't your fault anyways. But you will be getting better soon and then we will have a perfect Christmas."

"That sounds nice," I smiled, pain swept through my body though. "Where are my clothes?"

"They're in a locker don't worry," he said softly.

"Oh..." I trailed off. "Well when can I leave?"

"Your doctor said Thursday depending on how well you're doing."

"Damn, that only leaves me three days to get your present." I suddenly realized I said that out loud. Jared looked at me with a shy smile.

"You were going to buy me a present?"

"Of course I was,"

"Aww Kevin you don't have to do that. The best gift you could give me is your heart."

I grabbed his hand gently and placed it over my heart. Then I closed it and gave it back to him.

"There, now you have my heart." He moved closer to me and placed his lips on top of mine. When he pulled away I saw tears in his eyes. "But I still want to buy you something."

"Kevin I really don't-"

"Jared no, I am going to buy you something." I said sternly.

With a defeated sigh he said, "Well all right, but you'd better take it easy on me. Nothing expensive."

"No promises,"

Jared just smiled and nodded, knowing he wouldn't win this one. I wiped away a couple tears that fell from his eyes. Before I put my arm down he took my hand and kissed it.

"Maybe you should try and get some sleep," he said quietly.

"Only if you lay down with me. You look like you haven't slept in day's babe."

"Truthfully I haven't. I've been way too worried about you."

"Aww, well, sleep with me?"

"Of course,"

I scooted over as best I could without causing too much pain, which was actually kind of hard. He carefully got onto the bed and covered up. Then he wrapped his arms around me and kissed me on the cheek.

"Goodnight my love." he said before I closed my eyes and slept the rest of the night.

When I woke up Jared wasn't next to me; he wasn't even in the room. I looked on my rolling table and there was a cup and a note.

Kevin,

I went to get some breakfast. The doctor told me it should be all right by now. Suck on some ice chips to help your throat get moisturized though. See you in a little bit.

Love,

Jared

Yes! I hate hospital food. The food here is gross, well, the jell-o is all right. Jared is so great. I wonder what he is getting me though. I don't think I've ever told him what my favorite breakfast food was. Minutes passed by and he still hadn't returned. A nurse came in to check on me.

"Nurse?"

"Yes, sir?"

"Can I have some pain medicine?" I whined, but politely.

"You're not scheduled for another dosage for another thirty minutes." she said calmly.

"Please?" I looked at her with my best sad look I could muster up.

"Fine, but don't tell the doctor. And I'm only giving you a little bit until your actual dosage time." she said. I liked this nurse.

"Thank you,"

She gave me some medicine then left the room. I think it was five more minutes and then I began to doze off. However, something suddenly perked my attention.

"I'm back," Jared said, walking through the door holding a pink box. "Good, you're awake."

"I'm just waiting for my favorite thing in the world." I smiled at him.

"Really? I'm your favorite thing in the world?" he batted his eyes.

"I was actually talking about the food." He looked at me and gave me a frown. "I'm just kidding babe. Of course I'm awake waiting for my favorite person."

Jared smiled and tried hiding his reddening cheeks. Luckily for him he was holding that pink box. "I got your favorite breakfast."

"Really?" I asked suspiciously.

He put the box in front of me and opened the lid. "Four sprinkled, two maple bars, two glazed, two sugared, one jelly, and one cinnamon roll. Man you're small, but you can eat so much. You're like a piranha in tight pants." he laughed. He always knew how to make me smile. My stomach suddenly roared. Jared started to laugh even harder, having to sit down. And that caused me to laugh harder.

"You are...so adorable." he tried saying. We calmed down and stared into each other's eyes.

"As much as I would love to stare in your eyes all day I'm a bit hungry." I said playfully.

"Well go ahead and eat," he said quickly. "I just got some coffee."

I started with a sprinkled. In literal terms that was gone in less than a minute. And then another and another and another.

"You aren't full yet?"

"Nope," I giggled. Then I ate both of my maple bars. Jared sat back and drank his coffee in complete astonishment. He knows I can eat an incredible amount, but this time he actually seems kind of surprised.

"So I was thinking about some things earlier," Jared began nervously. "I think we should turn your dad in this time Kevin. He hurt you so badly."

I immediately stopped chewing. Fear ran throughout my body as I slowly closed my eyes for a moment. "Jared, are you forgetting that if you turn him in for this that he can turn me in for stealing from him, and drug use?"

"Oh yeah, I forgot about that." he smiled modestly, scratching at his head. "Sorry babe."

I focused back on him and smiled. "No problem, but now I'm feeling all down."

"Really?" he asked slyly.

"Yeah, really," I huskily whispered.

"Hmm, now what can I do to heighten Kevin's spirits?" I could hear the seductiveness almost bleeding from his teeth.

"I do not have the answer to that."

Jared crept up to my side, rubbing my chest. I stared into his eyes. They showed passion, love. A smile showed on my face as well as his. I knew what he wanted and I knew I wanted the same thing. He leaned in and brushed his lips across mine. His tongue traced the outline of my lips slowly making its way into my mouth. With our lips locked I cupped his head pulling him in closer. It suddenly began to get warmer in the room. Our tongues explored the mouth they were in. We have definitely gotten a bit better since our first kiss. But right when it was getting good we were interrupted.

"Do you want him to pass out again?" Jared jumped back so fast my tongue was still sticking out. The doctor started to quietly laugh to himself. "Don't worry I'm just here to do a quick check up."

"You mean you don't care we're gay?" I asked in surprise.

"No way. Why would I?"

"Oh, well it's just we know that gays aren't exactly welcomed everywhere and accepted by everyone." I said shyly. Jared took my hand and squeezed it softly.

"Listen, this is a gay-friendly hospital. If you have any problems you give me a ring and I'll take care of it. No one mistreats my patients while in this hospital." he said seriously, but in a gentle tone. I looked up at him and smiled. "Well, it seems that you're healing exceptionally fast. The bruising on your legs has started to disappear. Your face is returning to its natural color. And your abdomen, chest, and ribs are becoming less swollen. I've got to say Kevin, you are a lucky kid. Out of the four years of being a doctor I've never seen someone heal as fast as you have."

"I am lucky, but for many other reasons." I smiled at Jared. He instantly knew I was talking about him.

"Well, is there anything I can get for you or do for you?" the doctor asked kindly.

"Uh no, I'm good." I stated.

"Okay good. Then I will be back later to do another check up on you." He walked out of the room to leave me and Jared to what we never finished.

Throughout the rest of the day we just watched hopeless TV and ate. Technically I ate while he watched. When night finally came around I made him go home and get some rest. I know that sleeping on that chair isn't comfortable. But getting him to leave my side was more difficult than I had imagined.

"Kevin I don't want to leave you." Jared whined.

"Jared you need to sleep in a bed. And I don't know if I can share with you again tonight. I'm starting to get really sore." Of course, I lied.

"But it's only seven, and I can just sleep on this chair, really." he argued.

"I'm really tired," I looked him in the eye and gave him a pout. "Please."

After a sad sigh he said, "All right, but I'll be back first thing in the morning; with breakfast."

"Mmm, can't wait babe. I love you."

"I love you too." he said, leaning closer to steal a goodnight kiss. I waited a few minutes after he left before I began my Christmas shopping.

"Nurse," I called out.

"Yes?"

"Can you bring me a phone book please?" I asked politely.

She simply walked next to the night stand next to my bed and pulled the drawer open. Inside were a phone book, bible, a note pad, pens, tissue, and eye shades.

"Oh," I chuckled. I had no idea that was even there.

"Here you go," she said, obviously amused by my stupidity.

"Thanks," She walked out and I looked up one specific name: Precious Times Jewelry Store. I want to buy that necklace for Jared so badly. It was one thing I knew to get him. I hurriedly dialed the numbers and awaited service.

"Precious Time," a woman said.

"Yes hi, I was wondering if you hold jewelry, specifically a necklace?" I nervously asked. Talking to people, even on the phone, wasn't one of my strong points.

"Yes sir, we do." she said.

"Great, well, I was wondering the price on that platinum necklace you have on display in the window."

"That one is eight hundred."

"Hmm, um, could you possibly place that on hold? I could pick it up on Friday."

"Surely, your name?"

"Kevin Scavo,"

"All right Mr. Scavo, we can also wrap it for you. We have elegant paper or you could just keep it in the beautiful box it comes in."

"I think I'd like it wrapped,"

"Perfect, well then, it's all set. Oh, I should mention that if you do not pay for this by Friday at closing time we cannot hold it any longer."

"Yes I understand." I said. "Thank you."

"No, thank you."

I hung up with a huge smile o my face. Perfect. Now I have Jared's Christmas present. All I have to do is pick it up on Friday and I can do that after I meet with Tamara.

When I awoke the next morning Jared was waiting with breakfast. He had a mischievous smile spread across his face.

"Morning beautiful," he said. "I got you some more donuts."

"All right!"

He stood up and gave me the box, kissing me before returning to his seat next to my bed.

"So how'd you sleep?"

"Good, how about you?"

"I slept great!" he beamed.

"Okay what's going on? What are you hiding?" I asked, taking my second donut out of the box.

"Well, I bought your present last night."

"What?"

"I bought your present's last night." he laughed.

"They weren't expensive were they?" I suddenly became defensive.

"Oh no only about...95, 837 dollars is all." he cried.

My eyes went wide. "Jared!" I loved that he'd spend that much on me, but I hate it when he spends money on me.

"I'm kidding Kevin. Besides, you're not worth that much anyways." he said smugly.

"Shut up,"

"J to the k again," he laughed. "Really though, you're worth way more to me than any amount of money."

That brought an immediate smile to my face. Making me smile is something Jared knew how to do extremely well.

"Thanks," I suddenly frowned.

"Kevin I'm serious. Someone could offer me a billion-kajillion dollars and I'd still rather have you. How could you put a price on one of the sweetest guys in the world?" There was a small silence before he answered. "Exactly, you can't. There's no price for that." He leaned over and gave me a kiss. One that showed how much he cared. How much he loved me.

"You boys should really just close the door."

"Sorry, but I owed him that."

The doctor had a smirk on his face. "Seems like you just paid him off for a long time." He came and checked my vitals and my body. I was kind of self-conscience of him checking especially when my boyfriend was right next to us. Jared's never seen my body, ever.

"So I can leave tomorrow right? I mean Jared told me I could leave on Thursday."

"Well, it seems you're healing just fine and remarkably fast. Tomorrow should be okay to release you. Um, what is tomorrow again?"

"Thursday," Jared laughed.

"Oh, right, uh yeah. Tomorrow should be perfect." He walked out of our room, looking a bit stressed.

The rest of the day went by way to slow. I guess when you sit in a bed watching one channel a day isn't enough fun for me. Although, I did have my boyfriend to keep my company, and boy did he. But I still dozed off around six. Of course, I woke up to the smell of something that made chills go down my spine.

Dinner.

"Burgers?" I asked with my eyes closed still.

"Yep," Jared replied. I opened my eyes and on my rolling table sat the biggest burger I've seen in a while. "I cannot believe you can eat that. It's four patties babe."

"Well babe they've had them for some time now." I giggled. He already sat my food out for me. The quadruple stacked burger sat next to a pile of golden fries. To say my taste buds were on overdrive is a complete understatement.

A few minutes into my devouring Jared made an interesting offer. "If you can eat every single fry I will give you whatever you want. But if you can't then you have to give me whatever I want."

"Aren't those like the same thing?" I smirked. "So basically it's a win-win situation."

"That's right,"

"You're on,"

I just sat there smiling while I chomped my food. He knew better than to make an eating bet with me. I'm sure he just wants a reason to make out.

"Do you just want to make out now?" I giggled.

"Saw right through my plan?" he asked dejectedly.

"Yeah, but babe you should know better to make an eating bet with me."

"I know, but I couldn't think of anything else."

We both started to laugh. All he'd have to do is be close to me. His smell drives me wild. It's a clean, classic scent and it couldn't be any better.

"I'll eat first and then I'll want dessert." I grinned evilly at him. I ate faster than normal just to get my very filling dessert. Jared stopped looking at me though. Instead, he was looking out the window. "I'm done babe."

"Oh," he said, shaking his head and looking back at me.

"Are you all right?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"You sure? It looks like something is bugging you."

"No, really, I'm fine. I just, uh, want some dessert." he smiled reassuringly. But I knew something was on his mind especially if he wasn't watching me.

"Me too,"

That's all it took for him to stand up and lean in close to me. I looked into his eyes, searching for anything. Of course, I got the emotion. It was happiness. He slowly crept his face closer until our lips met. I opened my mouth slightly, allowing his tongue to enter. He started to explore my mouth; as if he didn't know it already. A moan escaped me as he rubbed my chest. Our breathing began to deepen and I started to sweat slightly.

"This is the best dessert..." he gasped between breathing and kissing. "I've ever had."

I gently grabbed him by his shirt collar and pulled him in closer. He took his free hand and put it on my cheek, slowly moving in a circle motion. More moans escaped my mouth as he started to rub down my chest. As he reached my crotch, my sense became more aware of what was happening.

"Jared..." I tried saying, but our kissing made it difficult. "I'm not comfortable with that."

He stopped kissing me and sat up suddenly. "I'm sorry Kevin. I didn't mean that...I don't know what I was thinking."

"It's all right. It's just I'm not ready for any of that."

"I know you're not. I'm not really that ready either."

I pulled him back to my lips and kissed him gently. That sudden invasion of my comfort level left me wondering if I was ready or not. But the boy who had his lips on mine took my worries away.

"Hey Jared your dad just..." the doctor started, but stopped after seeing us the way we were. Jared pulled away very quickly. "Sorry."

"Uh...no problem, doctor." I panted. Jared was trying to catch his breath as well.

"Well I just came in to tell you both that Jared's dad signed some papers and you're free to go tomorrow legally, unless I think otherwise." he explained to us.

"Thanks," Jared said.

"Oh, and my name is Ron,"

"Okay, Ron." I said.

Dr. Ron left, leaving us to finish our dessert. We continued making out before Jared decided he should go home to let me get some sleep. He told me he still has some gift wrapping to do.

After he left I just lied in bed anxiously awaiting the time tomorrow at which I could leave.
