A Life So Changed 04

"Hi, I'm Kevin Scavo and I'm here to pick up a necklace that was on display in the window." I said quickly. Jared was only going to be gone for a few more minutes buying us some hot chocolate.

"Ah yes. I'm sure whoever receives this will be quite surprised." the cashier said happily. Her voice sounded exactly like the person who had helped me on the phone.

"I sure hope so,"

"That will be $820, please."

"Wow, okay," I pulled put the wad of cash and quickly counted out the amount. The cashier seemed a bit skeptical on selling me this item once I pulled out the wad of cash, but said nothing. She took the money and handed me the gift box and a receipt. "Thank you,"

"You're quite welcome. Merry Christmas."

I walked out with complete satisfaction in my mind. Jared was getting his Christmas present so I was on cloud nine. However, time was still running out. Jared will be back any minute and I sill had to hide his gift.

"Careful, it's hot," Jared said, walking up to me just as I was shutting the trunk door. He looked me over and noticed I was panicked. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, you just kind of scared me." I tried to laugh.

"So what are you doing back here?"

"The door looked like it wasn't shut all the way and I was just making sure." Lying wasn't one of my best qualities, but I did a darn good job of doing it this time.

"Oh, okay, thanks babe."

I have about thirty minutes until my AA meeting. I decided to go to an earlier one so I could spend the rest of the night with Jared; the seven o'clock one seemed perfect. We drove to the medical center where my meetings were just talking about anything. One thing that was brought up though was tomorrow his parents are coming home from their business trip. Apparently they want to do something with us as a "family" tomorrow. Tomorrow is also Christmas Eve, which I am looking forward too.

We walked inside of the building, hand in hand, and I signed a piece of paper stating I was here basically. Before I got to sit back down I heard a familiar voice calling my name.

"Kevin," Tamara said joyfully. "I didn't expect to see you here until eight like last Friday."

"Well, I wanted to come earlier so I have more time with Jared." I said, turning my head towards the boy next to me. "Oh, I'm sorry, Tamara this is Jared. Jared this is Tamara."

"Hi," Jared said, extending a hand.

"It's nice to meet you, Jared." she said again joyfully, returning the gesture. "Well, the class is about to start so whenever you're ready you can come on in."

"All right, thanks," I said. She walked away back into the same room as last week. I turned to Jared and caressed his face. "Gosh, it feels like I'm leaving you forever." My voice softened and water flushed in my eyes.

"It's only for an hour babe. And I'll be waiting for you right here when you walk out of that door." Jared said softly, moving me into a hug.

"I guess I should get in now." Jared released me and I slowly walked to the door. I turned around only for a second to smile at my boyfriend before walking into the room.

"Everyone, this is Kevin. He is a recovering alcoholic, drug abuser, and other not so serious conditions." Tamara announced as I sat down.

"Hello Kevin," the group said. This brought back some memories.

"So, Kevin, has anything happened in the past week? I can see the bruises are pretty much gone." Tamara said gently as usual.

"These are different bruises." I said, saddened at having to remember the horrible memories. "I was sent to the hospital Friday night^Åor Saturday morning; it was very late. My parents came home and ignored me for a few minutes. But then my mom came up into my room and started some stuff with me. She hit me, I shouted in pain; she lied to my dad and said I tried to attack her or something like that, and then my dad completely lost it." I had to stop so I could wipe tears away from my eyes. These memories were killing me. "By the time he was done beating me I was a disaster. Around one, I think, I gathered all the strength I had left and went to Jared's house where he called for an ambulance. I've been at the hospital since yesterday."

"Oh, Kevin," Tamara said in astonishment. She really did look saddened at my story of pain, not just faking it.

The rest of the hour went by okay. Other members of the group took their turns talking about what's happened to them recently and how they were doing with their recovery. After the meeting, Tamara wanted to talk to me in private.

"Kevin I was wondering if you wanted to maybe do private sessions with me instead of in a group. It might be easier to share your problems and feelings being alone with me." Tamara said warmly. We were standing by the door after everyone else left the room.

I thought about it for a second and answered, "Yeah, sure. I'd like that better."

A smile crept on her face. "All right then, you go back to your boyfriend and then next week I'll have the paper work for private sessions. But come at seven sharp, okay?"

"Okay, I'll see you next week then." I said, before heading out the door. Jared was waiting right where he said he'd be.

"Hey babe, did you have a good session?" he asked me. He stood up and walked met me half way. I knew he did this to make sure I wouldn't have to walk all the way to the small waiting area where he was sitting; such a nice young man.

"Yep, and Tamara asked if I wanted to do private sessions with her. I said sure, so next week I need to be here early so I can do paper work so we can start." I said happily. Jared gave me a hug before saying anything else. His warmth felt so good pressed against me.

"She seems nice, Kev."

"She is, she's very nice." I told him. "Can we get something to eat?"

"Sure, babe, let's go."

On the way to a fast food restaurant we talked about my meeting. He seemed worried about me after I told him how hard it is to talk about what happened.

"Jared stop," I suddenly said.

"What? What's wrong?" he asked quickly.

"I don't want to eat here," I said. "Can you cook for me?"

Jared look taken back by what I just said. He loved cooking, but I haven't ever had the opportunity to try his meals.

"Um, are you sure?"

"I am positive. I want to try my boyfriend's cooking." I smiled. "I've never had it before."

"Well all right then!" he said enthusiastically.

The closer to home we got the more I wanted to ask him one question. A question I never thought I'd ask him.

"Jared," I said, nervously looking at him.

"Yeah, babe?"

"Will you teach my how to drive manual?"

"What? Are you serious?"

"Oh yeah, I'm serious Jared."

He laughed. "I'd be way more than happy to teach you! I know this place out a ways that will be perfect; it's quiet, empty, and spacious. It's where I first learned."

When we finally made it to the deserted spot, my nerves began to jitter. But Jared was right; the place was completely empty. It probably had something to do with the fact it was out in the middle of no where. He shut the jeep off and looked at me curiously.

"Jared I can't do this!" I suddenly blurted out.

"What? Why?"

"Because I just can't!"

"Kevin, look at me," he said. I did as I was told and looked him in the eyes. "Yes you can." After some initial hesitation I stepped out of the jeep and switched with Jared.

"Okay, so first I'll teach you the gears. There's first, second, third, fourth, reverse, and neutral." Jared then showed me exactly where the gears were and how to move them. "Think you got it?"

"Yeah, this is okay so far,"

"Now, put the gear back into neutral. Before I shift, I always make sure I'm in neutral by shaking the stick left and right, and then I shift into first." I did as I was told. "Good, now we're going to start the jeep. Push in the clutch and the brake then start it."

I again did as I was instructed and I actually started the jeep. Nothing broke. Nothing went wrong. Jared looked like he was amused by my nervousness, but it didn't bother me. In fact, I wasn't as nervous as I was before. That is until he said that we'd start driving now.

"Release the parking brake, Kevin," Jared said calmly. "Okay, this next part can get a bit tricky. This is where I had most of my problems. First, shift into first." I pressed the clutch then shifted into first.

"Good, good," Jared said. "Okay I lied, this is the tricky part. You need to release the brake, slowly lift off the clutch and push the gas at the same time, but not to fast."

This did sound rather difficult, but suddenly, the jeep began to move smoothly. But that all ended very soon. As soon as I began to move, the jeep stalled.

"Wow babe that was good." Jared smiled at me. "I didn't even get the car rolling before I stalled it out."

"That was good?" I asked, embarrassed that I stalled.

"Yes, you did better than me." laughed Jared. "Just start the jeep again like I taught you, babe."

Over the next hour, Jared stayed calm and didn't ever get impatient. My driving improved over that time. He was very impressed and let me know it. Of course, he drove us home. Upon pulling into his driveway up to his house I took to note that he didn't park in the garage like he usually does. But I just let it go figuring it was nothing. Although, I had to ask.

"Why didn't you go in the garage?"

"Oh^Åuh, the door is jammed. Someone is coming out tomorrow to fix it though." Jared kind of hesitantly let out.

"Oh, okay," I replied.

When we got inside he immediately started cooking dinner. I just sat at the bar next to the kitchen and watched Jared cook. He really knew what he was doing.

"You sure do know what you're doing babe," I said happily. He looked up at me and smiled. For some reason that smile sent chills down my spine and I suddenly got very excited. It's never happened before; well, at least like that. I always get excited when I see Jared or hear him for that matter. And for you perverts, I don't mean I get hard.

"Yeah, well, I just started teaching myself a year or two ago and I've grown way better since then. I've even created simple short-cuts for myself. I try not to always go by a recipe, and add my own ingredients." he explained to me while shredding some cheese.

"So what are we having?"

"Chicken lasagna with-"

"All right!" I cut him off with excitement. He just laughed and finished.

"With garlic bread and then for dessert I have a frozen cheesecake."

"Babe my mouth is watering!"

He continued putting the ingredients together in a baking dish. It was all looking so good even before it was ready. After he did finish, he told me that the lasagna would be ready in about an hour.

While we were waiting I led him into the den and he lit a fire. We sat on the love seat with me in his lap. The heat from the little heat that was exerted from the fire and Jared's body warmth was enough to start and lull me asleep. But by the time I shut my eyes Jared said he had to out the bread in and that dinner would be done in five minutes. Since he got up I figured I might as well also.

So with me back at the bar I watched Jared finish up dinner. I thought my mouth was watering badly before it was cooked, but now that I could smell and see it my mouth was turning into a fast flowing river.

Before I knew it, Jared was serving me with a plate that was loaded with lasagna and three pieces of garlic bread. My boyfriend knew how to treat me right. And that's one of the things I love most about him.

I took one bite, blazing heat and all, and moaned, "Jared, this is the best lasagna I have ever had!"

"Thanks babe," he smirked, sitting down next to me with his own plate. I began to wolf my food down. Jared's tried to keep up with me before, but he always ends up losing. Now, I eat fast, but I do not eat disgustingly.

The lasagna tasted like heaven. I could taste multiple cheeses, olives, various spices, and one thing that really caught my taste buds, garlic.

After we were done eating dinner he brought out dessert. And just I did with dinner, that slice of cheesecake was gone in minutes. As soon as we both were done we again went back to the love seat where I fell asleep in his arms, just the way I like it.

Was this chapter worth the wait? I hope so, but if not then please don't get upset. I have been so stressed and busy with personal things right now.
