TO BE A BROTHER

Chapter I

Some Kind of Fraternity

The Olympic was an older downtown hotel that had gone through several renovations and two name changes. It had once been a premier hostelry, but now stayed in business primarily by handling the overflow from conventions booked into newer nearby chain venues, catering to commercial travelers who remembered its better days, and taking advantage of its location across the street from the federal court house. Lawyers and witnesses appearing before the district and circuit courts found it convenient to stay there.

And on each equinox, the top floor and the penthouse lounge and dining room above, once an exclusive night club, were fully reserved for an entire weekend by the Brothers of Aries and Libra.

Nobody knew much about the Brothers. It was obviously some sort of fraternity. Its members seemed to range from college age up to thirty or so. The men came from all over the country. All seemed pretty well off. About twenty-five members generally attended each meeting. Except for frequent trips to the hotel's basement swimming pool, most all the attendees remained in the top of the hotel for the whole two days and two or three nights. They had communal meals in the dining room, and the bar was open from ten in the morning until way past midnight. They also insisted that two particular bartenders be hired for the eight to closing shift.

For the last few years reservations had always been made by Reginald Pirie. There were twenty rooms on the top floor, and all the rooms were rented, although some of them might not used. A week before the meeting the hotel was given the names of who would be staying in which room. Some were double occupancy, some single. A corner room was always reserved for Reg Pirie's father, Craig Pirie. He usually was present for a part of the weekend, but not all of it. Sometimes he didn't show up at all. It was to his company's address, however, that the hotel's bill for the entire event was sent; and it was always paid in full within ten days.

Preston Brownlee, the hotel's manager, looked forward to these semiannual events. It meant hiring temporary help for the penthouse dining room, kitchen, and bar; but the extra staff were mostly the same people time after time, so minimal additional training was needed. The regulars knew that the check would always contain an especially generous gratuity, a full twenty percent, which when divided, made the extra work well worth the trouble for the extras as well as the housekeeping staff normally assigned to the top floor. And the profit to the hotel was considerable.

The coming weekend was the 2014 Aries Convocation, which began Friday evening, March 21.

Jim Sessions' eighteenth birthday had been in February. He was more than excited that his best friend, Tom Parrish, had invited him to go to a meeting of some sort of club he was a member of. Tom was a year older than Jim, but they had been friends since primary school.

Tom had explained to Jim's parents that it was just a bunch of guys relaxing and going to some presentations by members on current affairs. The meeting was only an hour and a half away from Lafayette, where they lived, so they could leave after Jim's school let out Friday. Depending on the schedule, they'd be back Sunday night or Monday by noon, so Jim wouldn't miss but a day of school, if that. And best of all, there was no cost.

Faced with the enthusiasm of both boys, the Sessions gave their consent for Jim to go.

Jim worshiped Tom Parrish. Always had. Even when Jim was six, Tom was the one who excelled physically, was confident in every situation, and attracted friends like pollen attracts bees. Now in addition he had become one gorgeous specimen. At six foot two his tall t shape sent all the girls into ecstasy. His blond hair and blue eyes and his good-looking face would make a fashion model jealous. His deep, melodious voice attracted everyone who heard him speak. Everyone he came in contact with wanted to become his friend.

Not that Jim was unattractive. He was a handsome gymnast with auburn hair and green eyes, well-built but not overly muscular. He was a bit shy, however, not nearly so outgoing as Tom.

Jim was also a deeply closeted gay. He hardly admitted his orientation even to himself. He had never so much as dreamed of coming on to another guy. He couldn't believe that other boys might actually have sex with each other. But he recognized that he was passionately attracted to his best friend, something that he kept hidden at all costs. As a successful, macho athlete, he knew that no one suspected that he was "queer," despite the fact that he seldom dated. He had no problem joining in when the locker room talk turned to conquests. He never lied, just appeared to appreciate the tales that other guys told, reacting as if he'd been there too. He thought most of the stuff he heard was bullshit anyway.

March 21 came. Jim took his packed bag with him to school. It contained one sports outfit to wear at the banquet. Otherwise he'd been told to pack jeans, shorts, t shirts, and swim trunks. Tom, already a college freshman, had driven home the night before and picked him up when school was out. They drove to the meeting, arriving at the hotel a few minutes before five.

Jim was understandably excited. On the way he asked all sorts of questions. Got hardly any satisfactory answers. "We just mostly have fun," Tom told him. "I'm going to propose you for membership. So they'll be looking you over.

"But just be yourself," he continued. "It's you that I'm proposing, not somebody you think you'd like to be. They're a neat bunch of guys, although some of them are a good bit older than us."

The marquee of the hotel sported a large banner. "Welcome, Brothers of Aries and Libra," it read. On the events calendar in the lobby was the notice, "Aries and Libra Penthouse."

At the front desk the clerk welcomed them warmly. Handing them their keys he said, "Mr. Parrish, you and Mr. Sessions will be in 1204. As you know, registration is in the penthouse lounge. Please have a nice stay." Jim noticed that Tom was not asked to sign in.

Their room was very nice, but it contained only one queen-sized bed. It did have a table suitable for work or cards, and there were two comfortable upholstered chairs along with the usual hotel accoutrements. Jim almost panicked, when he realized that he and Tom were expected to share the same bed. What if he had a wet dream or something?

Tom didn't stand on ceremony. He immediately began to strip. "We need to get into something more comfortable then go up and check in," he said.

In no time Tom was out of his traveling clothes and into a black t shirt and faded jeans. Jim was shocked that he wore no underwear.

Jim did quickly follow suit, however. After all, he spent part of every day in a locker room. He did keep his Under Armor briefs on, however. Wanted to conceal his hard-on in case he got one.

As they were leaving their room, Reg Pirie was coming out of Room 1202.

"Hi, Tom. Good to see you," Reg said. "Man, I've missed being with you. So I put you next door. And this must be Jim."

"Yes. Jim, this is Reg Pirie. He's our Elder Brother, although there are brothers who are older."

"Good to meet you Jim. I'm looking forward to getting to know you."

Reg had to be the most beautiful man Jim had ever seen. Six feet tall with wavy black hair that hung down to his neck and sexy black eyes that made you feel you were the only person he was interested in looking at. He had a high forehead and shapely lips. Jim felt that they begged to be kissed. And his broad shoulders sloped to a waist that couldn't be more than thirty inches. He was wearing a blue sleeveless t shirt that showed his biceps to great advantage and trim tan jeans that emphasized an ample bulge. Jim was already getting a hard-on. He was glad he hadn't shed his underwear.

The three of them got on the elevator. Up at the penthouse the lounge was filled with gorgeous hunks. Jim could only wonder where all these handsome guys had come from. Tom registered for Jim and for himself, then ordered a scotch on the rocks for himself and a rum and coke for Jim. "It's all right," he said. "Up here nobody's going to check your age. Just don't drink too fast or too much. I know your dad lets you have one on holidays."

Tom introduced Jim around. There were a couple of guys that had just flown in from New York. Two other friends had driven from Denver. They had spent last night at a motel en route. Everyone Jim met he was very impressed by. Then Tom presented him to an Adonis in his early twenties named Victor Scanlon. Victor seemed especially interested in Jim. Tom mentioned that he needed to check on something, and he left Jim with Victor, who guided him to a corner table where they could talk.

Victor was drinking a martini and ordered another one. Jim decided to continue to nurse the drink he had. Victor wanted to know everything about Jim, all about his athletic pursuits, what his academic interests were, what sort of movies he liked. The way he responded to Jim's answers put the younger man at ease, and soon they were chatting like old acquaintances.

Victor was a recent graduate of a prestigious private university in the East. Had gone to work at a Chicago Bank. Said he'd thought about getting married, but felt like there was plenty of time for that sort of thing.

They were joined by the guys from Denver, Bob Galbraith and John Banner. "I'm sure looking forward to getting with both you guys," Victor told them.

"We need to get with each other first," John laughed.

"What the hell did you do last night?" Victor teased.

The implication of the exchange was completely lost on Jim. Anyway Bob and John immediately shifted the conversation to him. Again they wanted to know all about their new acquaintance, and everyone seemed to respond well to Jim's personality.

Meanwhile, Tom was back in Reg's room. "He's a fucking doll," Reg exclaimed. "And you say he's a virgin."

"I could swear to it," Tom responded. "I can tell he's hot for my bod—has been for a long time—but he's totally naïve about everything."

"Well the sooner you pop his cherry, the sooner the rest of us can have his ass."

"You seem to think the others will all vote him in."

"No doubt about it. But after he's asleep, I want your dick tonight."

"You and who else?"

"I could name twenty or thirty guys. By the way, my big brother's going to be visiting. You'll want to spend some time with him.

"But fuck," Reg continued, "there's no time like the present, come to think of it." He reached for Tom's crotch. A minute later they were both naked in the bed, their dicks in each other's mouths. After all, that's the real reason they were all there.
