Chapter 3 Dancing The Night Away

The following day I went to work to find David waiting for me.

"Come on in, David. What's up?"

"I just wanted to stop by and see what you've been up to. I haven't seen you since you left the hospital. Is everything okay?"

"Very busy. How about you?"

"Okay. Just getting a bit jittery."

"Really? How so?"

"Michael and I do nothing. I want to get out a little bit. I want him to get out a little bit. I want him to enjoy life not sit by himself."

"What did the doctors say about him doing things?"

"They said it's okay, just not to over exert himself. But we can't figure out what to do."

"I think I have an idea. Can I call you later?"

"Sure."

"Good. Talk to you later."

Once David left, I picked up the phone to call Lance.

"Hello, Eric."

"Hi, Lance. I had a question for you and the guys. Would it be possible if I invited two more guys to come with us?"

"I don't know. Who is it?"

"David Gallagher and his boyfriend Michael. They really need to get out but Michael's medical condition keeps him from doing too much. I figured if they came with us, they could feel safe and have others to talk to."

"I'll talk it over with the guys. Can I call you back?"

"Sure."

We hung up and I set about my work with clients.

About an hour later, I received a telephone call. I wasn't with a client at the time so I was able to take the call. It was Lance. He called to say that David and Michael could join us. When I called to tell David, he seemed happy and relieved.

After school, I went to the hotel. I went straight up to their floor. Lance greeted me.

"Hi, Eric." He smiled at me.

"Hi, Lance."

"Come on in."

"Am I too early?"

"No, you're fine. Did you want to get a shower now?"

"Yeah. I'm sure you guys are famished. Speaking of you guys, where are the others?"

"They left ten minutes ago for the restaurant. They are going to get a table."

"That's great."

"Was David and Michael going to meet us at the restaurant?"

"Yes."

"That's good. Here, you can use my shower."

I followed Lance into his bedroom. He took me over to his bathroom.

"Here it is. I'll get you a fresh towel and washcloth."

Once Lance left the room, I undressed and got in the shower. Not too long after I wet myself down, I heard Lance come in. Peaking through a space between the sliding door and the wall, I saw Lance staring at the sliding doors. That sly little devil was trying to get a glimpse of me naked.

"Lance, is that you?" I said.

"Uh...um...yeah. I have your towel and washcloth."

I opened the door a little and put my hand out. Lance handed me the washcloth.

"Thanks, Lance. Just hang my towel over the top of the door."

"Okay."

I saw the towel appear over the top of the door and then heard Lance leave. I washed off quickly and dried off.

When I went to open the door to his bedroom, I noticed Lance was getting dressed. At that point, all he had on was a pair of boxers. I waited a minute for him to get dressed a bit more before leaving the bathroom. Once he had on a pair of pants, I opened the door completely and exited.

"Hi," Lance said turning and looking at me. I saw his eyes look into mine then quickly look at my body glistening with a bit of condensation from the hot shower and my body hitting the cooler air. His eyes almost twinkled after seeing me. I was flattered by the way he took my presence in, as I realized I was doing to him.

I was staring at his bare chest and feet. He looked so scrumptious standing there. I looked away quickly.

"I just came out to get my clothes."

Lance went over to the chair I had left them on and grabbed them. When he handed them to me our hands brushed lightly and I felt an electrical jolt run through my body. I took me by surprise, as it was stronger with him than it was with Justin.

"Thanks," I replied as I turned and went into the bathroom.

What am I doing, I thought. I went through some horrible ordeals in the past few months. I shouldn't be getting involved with anyone. But I was. I was falling in love with Lance. And what's more, he was falling in love with me. He first liked me. But the look in his eyes just a few minutes ago contained more than just a liking. It was love.

I dressed quickly and left the bathroom. I sat down in a chair and put my socks on as Lance was standing by his closet putting on his shirt. There was so much sexual tension in the room it was intoxicating. Had any lovers walked into the room they would have been unable to help themselves. Within moments they would have been making out. It was taking all my will power to not grab him and kiss him passionately.

"I'll be waiting outside," I replied as I grabbed my dirty clothes.

"Eric, leave you clothes. You can get them later."

"Okay," I answered and took off out of the room.

I sat down on the couch and put my shoes on. Then Lance came out carrying a small spray bottle.

"Here," he said. "I noticed you didn't bring any cologne. Use mine."

"Uh, thanks." I sprayed some on and handed it back to him. Now I smelled him on me. I had his sent on me. It was almost like an aphrodisiac. I didn't know how much more I could bear, especially since I was going to be spending the rest of the night with him.

Lance came back out and said, "Shall we?" I stood and we went down to the lobby. He called a cab and within moments we were heading toward the restaurant.

At the Iceberg Lounge, everyone else was sitting enjoying some appetizers.

"This place is so cool," Chris said. "Who owns this?"

"Some guy in Florida," JC answered. "He opened one up in Orlando. It was so successful he opened one here and one in New York. If all goes well, he's planning to open them all over the country."

"I can see why it's popular. It's awesome."

"Look," Michael said, "here comes Eric and Lance."

The guys looked up to see us coming.

"Hi, Eric," JC said.

"Hi. Hello, everyone. It's good to see you guys."

Lance, being the sweetheart he is, pulled my chair out for me. If he did this and we weren't dating, I could just imagine what would happen when we started dating. When? What was I thinking? I couldn't date him. It was too much too soon. It would be crazy for me to date him, wouldn't it?

The waitress came by. We ordered our food and she went off to deliver the order to the chef.

"So how are you doing, Michael?" I asked.

"Pretty good. The doctors said I just need to take it easy for a while."

"Doctors know best," Justin replied. I noticed him glance in my direction.

I smiled and looked around the lounge. It was a vast white circular room. In the middle was a large pond with an island in the center. On the island was a small band playing soft music. Looking around there were many people enjoying the cool, calm atmosphere.

After we ate, we headed out to the limo that JC, Chris, Joey and Justin came in.

"There's only room for six people," JC said. "What should we do with the eight of us?"

"Eric and I will take a cab," Lance replied. "Is that okay with you?"

"Sure," I said. "David and Michael can ride with you."

"Where are we going?" David asked.

JC told him the club we were heading to and David expressed his concern for Michael.

"I don't have to dance, David. I'll be fine. I need to get out, remember?"

"Yeah. You're right. I just...I just don't want you to end up in the hospital again, that's all."

"I'll be fine."

The six piled into the car and it drove away. Lance and I went back in the lounge and he called a cab.

We arrived at the club and went in looking for the guys. I remember the first time I had come into this club. It was with NSYNC a few months ago. I was getting to know them and they were getting to know me. I had the pleasure of dancing with Lance for the first time there. I also had the pleasure of staking a vampire a little while after that.

Lance found the table and we joined them. Lance and I sat together. David sat next to me with Michael beside him. JC sat next to Lance with Chris, Justin and Joey completing the circular table.

"So how's work going?" Lance asked.

"Pretty good. Busy. How about you?"

"Okay. Johnny has been talking about us moving back to Orlando after the New Year. I don't know for sure, though, if it's going to happen. They come up with these kinds of plans all the time."

An NSYNC dance mix began playing on the radio.

"Come on, guys," JC said with a smile. "Let's dance along with it."

The group got up. David, Michael and I stayed at the table. Looking over at David, I could tell he wanted to get up and dance, too.

"David, go ahead," Michael said. He noticed it as well.

"No, I don't want to go out there without you."

"It's fine. Go."

David looked at me and I nodded.

"We will be fine, David," I replied. "Go."

David left the table and moved to the dance floor. I scooted over to Michael.

"Is he like this a lot?" I asked.

"Yep. I feel bad for him. I know he loves me and wants to spend as much time with me as possible. But I don't think it's healthy for him. I'm dying and there's nothing anyone can do."

My eyes widened at this statement. He was saying he was going to die.

"Don't talk like that, Michael. The doctors are doing all they can to help you. They could find the cure or whatever is needed to correct the problem."

"Not likely, Eric. It's only a matter of time before I die."

"You're not being very optimistic about this."

"I'm facing reality."

"Do you talk like this around David?"

"Yeah."

"That's his whole problem. You keep talking like you're dying and David feels so helpless. He doesn't want you to die. He wants to be with you for as long as possible. He doesn't want to lose you. You mean so much to him. Maybe you should stop talking like you have been. Perhaps that will help David get out and find friends who will be there to support him if you die."

"Not 'if', 'when'. And you're right. Maybe I should stop talking like that."

I looked away for a minute and saw the guys singing along with the current song in the mix. Lance was looking right at me as he sang:

You're the one I want

You're the one I need

Tell me what can I do

You're all I ever wanted

You're all I ever needed

So tell me what to do now

Well I want you back

I couldn't help but smile. He was trying so hard to get my attention, to get me to like him. He didn't have to worry; I was falling in love with him. But was I ready to fall in love?

The dance mix moved to yet another song:

Here we go

One more time

Everybody's feeling fine

Yes, yes, yes here we go

NSYNC has got the flow

I grabbed Michael's arm and he and I started to chair dance. He looked over at me and smiled. As we danced the song changed to yet another song. Looking over at Lance I could see him singing in my direction again. David was looking at Michael and lip-syncing in his direction. The song was "Crazy For You", the NSYNC version, of course.

The dance mix song lasted for about fifteen minutes. The last song slowed down quite a bit. Michael turned to me.

"Help me."

"Help you do what?"

"Help me get over to David. I want to dance with him. This is a slow song that I can dance to."

"Okay."

Michael stood up and I helped him over to David. David and Michael embraced. Michael put his arms around David's neck and David put his arms on Michael's waist. I watched them dance and tears filled my eyes. I could feel the love they had for each other.

The song switched to Madonna's "Crazy For You." I looked over at Lance and moved to him to dance.

Swaying room as the music starts

Strangers make the most of the dark

Two by two their bodies become one

I see you through the smoky air

Can't you feel the weight of my stare

You're so close but still a world a way

What I'm trying to say

"Can I have this dance?" I asked.

"Always," Lance replied.

Trying hard to control my heart

I walk over to where you are

Eye to eye we need no words at all

Slowly now we begin to move

Every breath I'm deeper into you

Soon we, too, are standing still in time

If you read my mind

You'll see I'm crazy for you

Touch me once and you'll know it's true

I never wanted anyone like this

It's all brand new

You'll feel it in my kiss

You'll feel it in my kiss

Because I'm crazy for you

I never wanted anyone like this

It's all brand new

You'll feel it in my kiss

I'm crazy for you

The music dies down and I decided to be brave. I leaned into Lance and pressed my lips against his. I felt the warmth of his lips against mine. At first he was taken by surprise, probably almost at much as I was surprised by my action. But he quickly recovered and relaxed and kissed me, too.

When we broke off the kiss, I looked up at him. I could easily tell I was flushed, my face felt so hot at the moment. Lance looked back at me almost shyly.

"Wow," I said.

"Yeah, wow," Lance replied softly.

"Let's sit this one out."

I took Lance's hand in mine and we walked back to the table. While sitting there, the rest of the group joined us, and they smiled to see the look on our faces. No one said a word, however, JC walked passed us on the way to the bathroom and punched Lance in the shoulder gently. I knew what it was for as well as everyone else.

A few hours later, he and I were still sitting at the table just holding hands. It was getting late and I had to work tomorrow, as did everyone else. The guys took the limo and dropped Michael and David off at their apartment. Lance and I took a cab to my apartment.

"Wait here, please," Lance told the cabbie. He turned and walked me into my building and up to my door. "I had a really nice time tonight."

"So did I," I replied. "I hope I wasn't too intrusive by kissing you."

"No, not at all," Lance said with a smile and a laugh. "In fact, I was hoping you would be willing to do it again before I left."

"Sure," I replied. Then I leaned in and kissed him full on the lips. It lasted for several minutes. When I leaned into him, I was lost to the world around me. Everything fell away and it was only him and I that existed.

We finally broke it off.

"Good night," Lance said giving my hand a squeeze.

"Good night."

"I'll call you tomorrow."

"I won't be home until late. I have some errands to run. I'll call you."

"Okay. Look forward to it."

I watched as Lance went down the stairs and out the door. I quickly unlocked my apartment and went in, rushing over to the window in time to see his cab drive away. I smiled the biggest smile. I went back to my apartment door and locked it. When I went to bed, I had a smile on my face. I was falling in love again. I still had some reservations, but it wasn't as bad as it used to be. Perhaps I was getting over the hurt from past relationships. Whatever the case, I was happy...and at peace.

To Be Continued...

It finally happened! I can see the grins on everyone's faces and here the cheers ringing forth all over the world! Lance and Eric finally kissed! Wow! I felt myself getting excited for Eric and Lance as the story was unfolding! I will be honest, though, I didn't expect this to happen quite so quickly. I guess they had other plans! Ha, ha, ha!

Let me know what you think! I adore all of you!
