Lives Changed 11-B

With the arrest of Jordan Martin everyone thought that he would be out of their lives for good and so everyone started to relax as they walked from the terminal to the waiting cars.

Sam who was with Malcolm and Patrick turned and let Rossetti know to have martin booked and placed in a single cell until he had a chance to file hit report. Rossetti just smiled at Sam and helped Martin into the back of his car then drove off. Instead of heading towards the jail Rosetti drove over to Marshall's cabin. Letting Jordan out he took the cuffs off and smiled. "You owe me big time for this. Get out of the city for a while and leave the Daniels and Jacobs' family alone."

"I still owe them big time, why should I leave it go?" Jordan asked.

"Because the next time you might not get lucky. Now one thing we will have to do is ride back towards town, then you are going to have to hit me. That way I can stay on the job and help you if I can."

"Fine let's do this, I have plans to make."

"Just remember stay away from those two families for now."

"Whatever." Jordan snarled as he smacked Rossetti right on the chin knocking him out. Reaching down Jordan took Rossetti's pistol and spare clip before running off towards his dad's old home.

Two hours later Sam had finished his report and waiting for Rossetti to get out of the hospital. As Sam drank a coffee he called Marchand to let him know what had happened. "Sam something about this escape stinks. The drive from the airport to jail should have taken only a few minutes. Why was Rossetti at the cabin?"

"That my friend I don't know, but it looks like the two families are going to need your protection for a longer time."

"I agree, but the director has pulled us off. Now I am going to call Ace and see if he can have the President keep us here."

"Do that, in the meantime I will have Liza and myself and a few others watching the families and the Martin home." Sam stated.

"Do it without going through the office, maybe talk to your chief and see what he says. I can have the state troopers brought back if need be."

"I don't think we need to go that far yet"

"Maybe so, let me call Ace and see what he says, then I will call you back."

"Sure, I'll be here for a while by the looks of it. I can also talk with Harris and see if he will approve of me using some of the officers here."

"Do what you can buddy, but don't push it if he says no."

"With what the President gave me and the authority that goes with it I don't think he will. I know he might not be too happy, but he has to follow orders just like me."

The word home can conjure up many images, but for Malcolm it was more, it was like he was waking from a bad dream, one that had lasted for more months than he could wish for. The first few days that Malcolm was home he relaxed, spending time with his brothers and dad. With a week before Christmas the house was decorated, a large tree was set up and sparkling with lights and tinsel. Aaron could always be found just sitting in front of it staring at the lights and smiling.

The third day home for Malcolm he woke and feeling good slowly made his way into a hot shower, his crutches resting close by. Having done his morning things he dressed and made his way to the kitchen. Sitting at the table Malcolm had his coffee as papa made breakfast. "What are your plans for today?" Papa asked.

"Well I was thinking of going shopping, it is Christmas and I would like to get the boys something special, I also want to find something for Patrick and his family."

"Oh, what were you thinking of for them?"

"Well maybe a new computer for the house and a laptop for Patrick."

"That sounds costly?"

"Only the best for my partner." Malcolm said with a smile.

"You're right, what about security?"

"What about it, didn't you know they were called off, though I know that Tony and Agent Kingston are still here?" Malcolm was going to say more when the phone rang and Aaron and Zeke came into the kitchen.

"Well Malcolm. It looks like you're stuck with us for a while longer." Tony laughed, before continuing. "Martin escaped three days ago and so far hasn't been seen. I spoke with Ace when I found out and he just called back. Donnie and Morrison are on their way back also. Now do you still have that vest?"

"Yeah, well no, Patrick has it, I just hope he wears it." Malcolm stammered.

"Okay, I will get you another one, and yes you will have to wear it."

"Well I had planned on going shopping this morning, but I guess I can't now."

"You can still go, Kingston stated. I have a spare vest with me you can use, just wait until you have showered and eaten, then we can go."

Just before leaving Tony came out and stopped everyone. "Malcolm, I know you think you can handle today with just your crutches, but your dad and I think you should take you wheelchair with you and use it. I think when you go into a store you can just use your crutches, but the rest of the time I want you in your chair."

"I can do that, though I don't agree with you, but just to stop the nagging I will do what you ask." Malcolm said with a grin.

The mall was packed, parking was just about impossible and people didn't seem to care where they put their cars, so when Kayde saw that a few were parking in handicapped stalls without permits he called the mall security and had then tow the vehicles. As Kayde was waiting for the cars to be moved he dropped Malcolm and Zeke at the entrance. "Malcolm, into your chair buddy." Kayde stated as he pulled it from the trunk.

"Okay, we'll meet you inside at the food court, I think Zeke wants something to drink." Malcolm snickered.

With Zeke pushing the chair, the two boys made their way inside and headed towards the food court. Mall security was doubled, but they weren't paying to close attention to anyone so when they head some yelling and the crash of metal they turned towards the sound and saw Zeke standing over his brother ready to fight some bigger kids.

"Why don't you guys leave us alone, we done nothing to you?" Zeke yelled.

"Kid, just being here bugs us, and especially with a cripple, now move out of the way and we will make sure he stays down." One teen boy snarled.

"You want him you gonna hafta fight me." Zeke growled.

"We don't beat on little idiots."

"No you pick on people who can't defend themselves or who you think are weak, well tough, you not touching my brother."

"Wanna bet kid, now move or I will move you."

"Zeke, don't they won't get away with this." Malcolm stated calmly as he slowly sat up.

"No way Malcolm, they not getting near you." Zeke started just as one boy grabbed him.

"I told you kid to move now you will." The bully snapped, then screamed as he let go of Zeke and dropped to the floor holding his crotch.

"Okay kid, you are coming with me." A security officer stated as he went to grab Zeke.

"Take your hands off him Mr. before I break it." Malcolm snapped.

"I don't think so, he just assaulted this boy." The officer snarled.

"Mr. he was defending himself now let him go. Those four pushed me out of my wheelchair and threatened to kick the hell out of me, Zeke only stood up to them until that prick grabbed him. Now let him go or I will charge you with assault on a minor."

"You think so Daniels? Yes I know who you are. Now park your ass in your chair and shut up, or you will be joining your brother in jail."

"I don't think so, let the boy go and stand back." Kayde stated as he walked up followed by Donnie and Marsten.

Listen you three, this boy?"

"Only protected himself and his brother. I am sure that there is witnesses and videos to this altercation."

"I don't know who you are, but these four are innocent."

"You're right you don't know who we are, as for those boys being innocent well let's all go to your office and see."

"Donnie when did you get here, I thought you were in Washington?" Malcolm asked.

"We got the call just before boarding and told to come back, seems like the President likes you."

"I know that, but I mean why are you here and not at the house?"

"Tony told us you were shopping and only had Kingston with you so he said we should get over here."

"Well I am glad, now maybe these jerks will listen."

"Shut up kid and let's go, the police are waiting for you two."

"No they are not." Donnie stated. "These two are under federal protection, which means you can't touch them."

"We'll see about that when the police arrive."

"You don't get it do you, they are not coming."

"Just who are you people? You can't just walk in here and say that someone is protected." The security supervisor asked finally.

"Well now that someone has asked, we three happen to be with the secret service."

"Damn it Danvers, you really know how to mess things up, alright everyone over to the office, that includes you four boys also." The supervisor ordered.

The office became crowded with a dozen people in it. The supervisor ordered the boys to sit and not move while Donnie and the others went into the back office. Donnie was the first to speak when he demanded that the video tape for that section of the mall be shown. The supervisor realizing that he could be in a bind found the tape and played it for Donnie and the others. The tape showed the four boys pushing Malcolm's chair over and getting in a few kicks before Zeke could stand over him. The tape also showed that four boys pushing others out of their way and the mall security just standing around doing nothing. "Sir, you can now phone the police, those four boys are under arrest for assault time eight. That tape is now evidence and will be given to the officers when they arrive." Kingston spoke up.

"Like hell it will and no one is going to be arrested except that kid who kneed that other boy." The mall security officer snapped.

"Mr. Osbourne it shall be done, as for you Danvers, I will deal with you later." The supervisor snarled.

"Danvers?" Osbourne asked?

"That's right, what's it to you?" Danvers snapped.

"Well to start with, I would like to know how you got out of jail, and secondly how you got this job." Donnie asked.

"Not that it is any of your business, but I got out on bail, as for this job no record so they hired me."

"That's it Danvers you're fired." The supervisor yelled. "You are also barred from entering this mall ever again, now go change that is after you give me you Id and cuffs."

"You haven't heard the last of this." Danvers snapped.

Outside the six boys were still sitting, Malcolm and Zeke were quietly talking while Zeke sat on Malcolm's lap. When Danvers stormed out of the office he saw Malcolm and Zeke and raced towards them. Zeke seeing this jumped up and stood in front of Malcolm trying to protect him. When Danvers hit him in the face knocking him down. Before Malcolm had a chance to stand the other four stood and grabbed Danvers. "Mr. there are a lot of things I will put up with, yes I am a bully I admit that, but I would never hit a kid, and you just stepped across the line." The older teen said with anger.

"Let me go kid before I hurt you." Danvers snarled.

"Let him go guys, he isn't going anywhere now." Sam spoke from the doorway.

"Hi Sam glad you're here. Can you check Zeke, see if he is okay."

"Sure, does anyone want to tell me what happened here?" Sam asked as he knelt beside Zeke.

"Well it seems like this guy wants to cause trouble for everyone."

"Okay, but why are you all sitting here in the security office?"

"That would be our fault sir, we that is the four of us thought we could get away with hurting Malcolm here, but that little dude showed us, he stood over his brother like some type of avenging angel."

"I see, so how did Zeke get hurt?" Sam asked.

"This guy, he came out of the office back there and I guess when he saw Malcolm and Zeke he just lost it, he came after the two and when Zeke stood up to defend his brother again, this guy hit him in the face." A second teen spoke up. "Malcolm I know what we did was wrong and you don't have to accept it, but I want to apologize. I am sorry for what I did." The teen spoke while staring at the floor.

"Apology accepted, just stay out of trouble." Malcolm answered.

"I will."

"Malcolm, Zeke, need to go to the hospital, can you call you dad and let him know."

"I will do that, and Mr. you better hope that my brother is going to be okay."

"I hope the little shit is hurt big time." Danvers laughed.

"Mr. Danvers you are under arrest for assault on a minor, aggravated assault and uttering a threat." Sam stated clearly. "Please turn around and put your hands behind your back. Mr. Danvers You have the right to remain silent. If you give up that right, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. If you choose to answer questions without an attorney, you can stop at any time and an attorney will be appointed for you. Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?"

"Go to hell, and just wait kid, I'll be out in a few hours." Danvers whispered.

"I don't think so, not this time Danvers." Sam stated. "I will be talking with the DA's office and letting them know how you just threatened Mr. Daniels here."

As soon as Danvers was taken away, Malcolm turned to the four boys sitting there with Zeke. Looking at them closely he saw three scared boys, the fourth looked like he didn't have a worry. "Guys." Malcolm started scaring the three and getting a frown from the fourth. "I don't know what I have done to any of you, I have tried to be what I thought was a good person, but you all hate me for some reason, maybe it is the fact that I am in this chair, whatever it is I don't know. So please tell me, maybe it is something I can fix."

"Who cares what you think or feel, as far as I care you're a waste of space and air." The smug boy stated.

"Shut up Sinclair we're in deep shit here and this kid is the one that holds the key. I for one don't hate him, in fact I should never have even been with you. Malcolm please forgive me I know that what I did was wrong and for that I am sorry." One scared boy spoke up.

"Sinclair is it? Let me ask you are you any relation to Austin Sinclair out of Washington?" Malcolm asked.

"Yeah he is my dad. Why?" Sinclair snarled.

"Well I guess you should know that he goes on trial next month for eight counts of kidnapping and eight counts of conspiracy to kidnap, so I guess like father like son." Malcolm spoke.

"I don't believe you, he is with the secret service, he wouldn't do stuff like that."

"No, just like he wouldn't be involved with people who conspired to steal billions of dollars and military secrets, hmm, little do you know your father. I guess."

"I don't believe you."

"That is up to you, as for you other two if you still think like Sinclair here then I feel sorry for you, however if you apologize to both Zeke and I then I will see about getting the guys here to drop everything." Malcolm stated.

"Huh, you would do that for us after what we tried." A third boy finally spoke up.

"Sure, why not, I don't think you three are really all that bad, and I think you just need a chance to show it."

"How would a cripple know who is good?" Sinclair asked with a snarl.

"You know Sinclair, you are just like you father. I was thinking of maybe giving you the chance also, but after that comment, well you can take your chances with the security here."

Malcolm was going to say more, but Donnie, Kayde and the others walked out of the back office. Kayde smiled when he saw Zeke sitting on Malcolm's lap. Walking over he ruffled Zeke's hair then stood beside them. Donnie and the security supervisor stood leaning against the counter facing everyone. The supervisor was about to speak when Sinclair beat him to it. "I want to call my mother, before you do anything. Sinclair snapped.

"Don't worry son, your mother has already been called and is on her way here as we speak." The supervisor started. "You others three, your parents are coming also, so we all just have to wait until they all get here."

"Oh great" One of the others whispered, "I am so grounded.

"Well I can't say I blame your parents for doing that, but that isn't as bad as what I have to say when they get here."

"Excuse me sir." Malcolm interrupted, but may I speak with you and Mr. Osbourne in your office?"

"Sure son, not much we can do other than stand here looking at the walls peal."

It took Malcolm and Zeke both to convince the security supervisor and Donnie not to ban the three boys from the mall and to drop everything. As for Sinclair well that would be up to him. Malcolm did make it clear that yes Sinclair should be banned, but only for a six month period and that if he messed up again then they could do what they wished.

Going back out Malcolm and Zeke were surprised to see Papa and Their dad sitting there along with eight other adults. Rushing over Zeke gave Papa a hug. "Hi papa, where is Aaron?" Zeke asked.

"He is with the Jacobs family somewhere in the mall here." Papa said with a smile.

"Mr. Sam said I should go to the hospital to get my face checked out from where that man hit me, but I feel okay." Zeke mumbled.

"Well if Mr. Sam said you should go, I think it will be a good thing, just to be safe. I think we can ask Patrick to watch your little brother for a few more hours, what do you say?" Richard asked.

"Well if you say so."

"Zeke if you go with dad, I will try and find you a new game how does that sound?" Malcolm said with a grin.

"Okay, but you got to get me a good one."

"Deal."

With Zeke off to get checked out with Malcolm's dad, Donnie and the rest spent the rest of the morning doing the Christmas shopping that Malcolm had started out to do. They had just finished when Patrick and Aaron met them in the food court. "Where is Zeke?' Aaron asked.

"He had to go with dad for a bit, they should be home when we get there. Now what would you like to eat?" Malcolm asked.

"Can I have a hot dog with fwies and milkshake, stwaberry."

"Okay turkey, I'll go get it."

"No Malcolm you stay here, Kayden and I will go," Patrick stated as he stood.

"Thanks dude.

The rest of the day was spent wrapping presents and decorating the house and tree. Zeke had come home and helped. The boys had a lot of laughs as Richard and Papa stood watching. When it came time to place the angel on top, Papa got out the step ladder and held it as Aaron clambered up and carefully place it in place.

That night after dinner Malcolm went and laid down, the day had put a strain on him and he was tired, so as soon as his head hit the pillow he was asleep, he didn't feel his brothers come in and lay beside him, nor did he feel the blanket that Richard used to cover the three.

Across the city Jordan Martin was sitting at his kitchen table drinking a glass of scotch and mumbling to himself. He so obsessed with wanting to finish off Malcolm that he never thought of the cops looking for him. His obsession was driving his crazy. He had called his sister Margaret to see if there was any way she could help, but all she said was to let it go for now, the fact that Martin had too much heat on him. She went on to tell him that it would be best for him to leave Florida for a while and let Daniels be.

Thinking about it Jordan knew that Margaret was right, but could he leave the city right now with every cop looking for him. The more Jordan thought of it the more he knew he could do it all he needed was some other type of identification. Grabbing his phone he dialed the one number he knew that could get him what he needed. "Rosetti here."

"Rosetti, I need some new id and you can get it for me, I need it fast," Jordan spoke as soon as Rosetti answered.

"Martin I told you never to contact me, what the hell do you think you're doing."

"Shut up Rosetti and get it for me or your boss will find out you helped me escape and that you were the one that also shot Daniels."

"Fine, when do you want it?'

"Three days, I have some paperwork to do, then you won't hear from me again."

"I better not, you are risking me as it is."

"So what, you play this game you take your chances." Martin laughed as he hung up.

The rest of the night Jordan grabbed clothes and what he needed and packed them into his late father's forty foot motor home. Jordan made sure that he had emptied his father's safe, taking all the money that was in there and stuffing it into a knapsack he then tossed that under the stove in the motor home.

With everything ready Jordan called it a night after having a second glass of scotch.

The next morning when Jordan woke his head was killing him, "damn should never drink scotch straight," thought Jordan as he looked in the mirror. He had just started a pot of coffee when the front door opened and Rosetti came strolling in. Tossing a large brown envelope onto the table he smiled. "Leave town, it is best you stay away permanently, I don't need the headaches you give me." Rosetti snarled as he grabbed a coffee.

"What's that there?" Jordan asked pointing at the envelope.

"That is what you asked for last night, I was able to get it from the station. Thing is you are now twenty years old."

"Okay," Jordan mumbled as he opened the package and saw everything he needed. "Damn you are calling me Carson Drummond, sounds like a black kid's name."

"Just be thankful."

"I am, now you better get out of here before someone sees you and starts asking questions."

With Rosetti gone, Jordan finished the coffee and then cleaning up he locked up the house and drove off, his first stop was the DMV where he changed the registration and plates to his new name, making sure that he had insurance also, after that he stop at a food mart and stocked the cupboards. He was just about to leave the store when he saw Patrick and his older brother walk in.

Jordan sat in his motor home waiting and watching for the two boys to come back out. The wait seemed to take forever, but Jordan had just got comfortable when the two walked back out and across the parking lot. The way the boys were heading Jordan knew they would have to pass in front of him, so starting his vehicle, Jordan set it in drive and with one foot on the brake and the other just resting on the gas he smiled and watched. Just as Patrick and his brother were right in front of him Jordan stepped on the gas and smiled.
