Ok, guys, All the disclaimers apply, that means all thanks goes to Marvel for the X-Men, I'm just making the story. And I do read all the other stories, and they're great, keep up the good work. They inspire me!

Chapter 46: Notes from the Underground

Scott [ Be careful, ba...Legacy.]

I crept past three guards and slunk down into a readied position and cartwheeled to past an opening, hoping I wouldn't be noticed. The others had created a distraction on the other end of the building and I volunteered because I felt more like a spy nowadays. That and I didn't really feel connected to them. Not since Vulcan. I found myself sneaking past another guard, I crouched to add to my stealth.

Pane [ Cyclops, this is a mission. Careful is not really an option.]

Scott [ Be ready, we're gearing up for the distraction.]

Pane [ Anytime, now.]

Suddenly, there was an alarm and everyone ran past me, in the opposite direction. I made my way to the control room. I slid some levers around and viola! The room I needed was a few yards away!

Pane [ Cyclops. Tell them to retreat.]

Cyclops [ Great. Everyone, back down!]

I sighed and started to walk out, but stopped at the sight of Mom. She looked the same, maybe younger. She smiled at me and I grimaced back. I felt pressure on my head and stumbled a little.

"Get outta my head!" I shouted.

"Come on, baby, let mommy in. Since you've been going to the school, we haven't been as close." Mom said, looking directly into my eyes.

"I said..." I frowned, holding my head, " Outta my head!" I said, causing her to fly back!

Mom got up and stared at me, " Still one of my father's puppets? They said you wouldn't come, but I knew you would."

"I've gotta save you." I said quickly, " They?"

"The rest of us. Apocalypse gets the world, but we get to run it." she said.

I thought for a minute, " SO, you all get your own portions...Vulcan got space, huh?"

"Don't get bent out of shape..." she said.

"Scott loves it." I said.

Mom cringed, " It's too old. It'll never work." she said.

"Now I'm supposed to take relationship advice?" I asked.

"I'm still your mother. I just am too young to die." she said, letting emotion slip in that one sentence.

I looked at her, " I'm sorry you died for me." I said quickly.

"I'm not." she said, " You have to get away, far away. Apocalypse isn't going anywhere and right now, he's taking over."

"Mom." I said slowly.

"This is the only way I can live." she said, looking back, " They're coming...I saved you because I love you. If you die, then that whole thing becomes useless."

I was on the brink of tears, but I shook it off, " I love you too." I said, " But this life you have here...it's not what you want."

"You'd rather I be dead?" Mom asked.

"I'd rather you were at peace." I said, running past her. As I hit the hallway, a bullet whizzed past me and hit the wall beside me. I turned and sent three guards flying away from me.

Scott [ Pane, get out here! Something is happening!]

Pane [ I'm exiting the north entrance, pick me up.]

More guards began shooting and I ran to the edge of the railing outside and jumped off, landing harshly on the roof of the X-Jet.

All the X-Men sat in the War Room, watching the monitors. Destruction had rained down on Manhatten, then spread from there. The world had been paralyzed. There were bulletins and presidential speeches and chaos. Apocalypse had succeeded in taking on the world and, as of now, he'd won. If we were going to take action, we needed it now. The information we had gotten from the computers indicated three major bases. One in Genosha, one in Manhatten, and one in Egypt. My mind wandered to the next step. Whatever we did next, we'd be behind. Apocalypse had been planning for years and with a mind like that, he could do anything. I looked over to see Bobby staring at me.

Bobby ( Are you okay?)

Pane < I'm tired. A little shaken. This whole thing is going a little too fast.>

Bobby ( It must have been Hell, seeing your mom.)

Pane < You have no idea.>

Bobby ( I'm always here to talk.)

I smiled <Thanks.>

Bobby ( Oh yeah, I'm sorry about that Rocky guy.)

Pane < He's in a better place.>

"So, what're you sayin, bub, we got a rogue on our hands?" Logan said, his gruff voice snapping me back into the conversation.

"We can not be sure of anything, Logan." Professor smiled at me, " The only thing we know for sure is that Apocalypse is behind this. And, from what Pane was able to get, there is more than one villain in this."

"Is it possible that their is an inside man?" Ororo asked.

"Whaddya mean? Like a spy?" Scott asked.

"Precisely." Ororo said, her beautiful face contorting into a worried one, " Apocalypse has been thwarting our attempts to calm the chaos."

"But, Comrade, who would do that?" Piotr asked.

"Who wouldn't, Suga." Rogue said, gaining stares from us, " He's promising them their own little countries. If I was evil, you best believe I'd be on that."

"She's got a point." I muttered, " If I were Apocalypse, I'd rally friends. Even though, if I were him, I wouldn't have any."

"What about the Masters of Evil?" Warren asked.

"I believe they are his main co-conspiritors." Hank announced, " Many were captured."

"Where are they now?" I asked.

"Crossmore. One of the chosen places that keep us safe has now been destroyed by the mysterious planes and villains are escaping into the street!" the reporter said, causing us to look at the screen.

"This is dire." Professor said, not looking at us.

"Heiliger Gott!" Nightcrawler shouted.

"I agree." Psylocke said quickly, " Wait, what did you say?"

"I think we should be rallying our allies as well." Emma Frost said. Her voice was seductive and made me wish she wasn't so close to Scott. I'd hate to have to kill her.

"Which allies?" Kitty asked.

"All of them." Scott said, " Any and every."

"So, this is it? This is really it..." Havok asked.

"Look, Dorothy, we're not in Kansas." I said, standing.

"You sound homesick." Lorna said, concerned.

"We are a long way from home." I sighed, " Where do we start?"

"Manhatten." Professor said, " Scott, assemble a team."

Scott nodded and everyone began to leave.

"Pane, may I see you?" Professor asked.

I nodded and sat back down, " She seemed fine." I said softly.

"It's not her." he said.

I looked at him, " Yes, it is." I said, " It is her. I thought it was a shell, but..."

He stared at me in disbelief, " I was under the impression that the resurrected were just shells." he frowned.

"She let me go." I said, " She could have fought me, but she didn't. She told me about everything."

"I know you must be..."

I shook my head, " No. You don't know! You're a telepath and you can't even began to feel what I feel right now! I feel like I'm being torn apart and...I want her to live, but I have to make the choice between her and the world. I've made this choice before, and I'm not sure I can make it again."

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"I'm not you. I'm half you. Half Magneto. I'm not going to kill my mother. If you or anyone else goes near her, I'll kill you." I said, looking into his eyes, " I'm so sorry, but I can't let that happen."

"When we break the machine..."

"If." I said quickly, " I'm going to help defeat Apocalypse, but I'm not going to let you or anyone else destroy that machine."

"Do you know what you're saying?" Professor asked, sitting back in his chair, " To go against us..."

"I've sacrificed everything and I don't have anything left but her. They're using my family to get to me and they won't find my family..."

"What have you done?" Professor asked, looking at me wide-eyed.

"What I had to." I said, standing, " They're all I have. I'll kill everyone before I let anyone destroy them."

"Even if that means killing us? Your other family?" he asked.

"Even if that means that I die." I said, looking back once.

"You speak as if you are wounded." he said.

"I am." I nodded, turning my head.

"I am afraid I cannot see it." he said.

"Then you're really not looking hard enough." I said, leaving.

I guess the truth was, that this place was like home to some people, but to me, it wasn't a dream. Living in peace wasn't realistic. It had never been. I found myself wondering how much one had to sacrifice to achieve Xavier's dream. He had everyone fooled because he took those who had nothing and no one to lose. I was different. I had history and family and a sneaing feeling that sooner or later, I would be the sacrifice again. Ever since I had been 'awakened' I didn't quite see the dream. I had never meshed with the school, I had been killed before I got to make a strong connection, therefore, I would never really make one. The spoiler is, that I'm supposed to be dead now. I was never supposed to have survived and in a way I hadn't. While I searched through my bags, I found sais. I took them out and twirled them slowly.

"Elektra gave them to you." Scott said, watching from the door.

I put them back down, " She gave them to him." I said softly.

"They were meant for you." Scott said, standing beside me.

"This al is pretty new to me...are you scared? This is a pretty big event." I said quickly.

"I know we're gonna win." he said.

"At what price?" I asked, " What price does Xavier's dream come?"

"What about Magneto's dream?" Scott said testily.

I shrugged, " I'm more worried about my dream." I muttered, " Do you honestly see us together forever?"

"Is this our 2343543434th break-up?" Scott asked.

"No. I'm just curious." I asked.

"I do. I see us all happy and free from oppression. Living peacefully." Scott said.

The mirror flew off the wall, " Scott when are you gonna realize that it's not going to happen! We are hated. We will always be hated and feared and we will be persecuted for it!" I shouted, " This world isn't about Dreams anymore. It's about hate. It's about death and it's about a fight. You know me better than anybody and I'm gonna fight until the end."

"Professor relayed your message to the team, about your mother." Scott said slowly, wrapping his hands around my waist.

"I meant it." I said, turning to him, " Even if that's you."

Scott let go and sighed, " I wouldn't do that to you." he said.

I kissed him, " I know." I said, walking to the closet.

"Any idea what you're going to do once you're leaving?" Scott asked.

"Yeah. I'm not telling you though, you really wouldn't approve." I whispered.

"Okay." Scott said, sitting on the bed, " Where are you going to stay?"

"The job's not really stationary." I said.

"Would this be no job?" Scott asked.

I smiled at him, " Stop reaching." I chuckled.

"Just trying to find something to hold on to." Scott sighed, standing, " I really wish you'd stay."

I nodded, " Wish I could." I sighed, " I just, I'm not needed on this team. I came to this school and was almost part of the team, then I died and...when you wake up, it feels like you're just thrown into someone else's life. I'm not crying or complainingg, I just..."

"I need you." Scott said, " You belong in my life."

I smiled, " Scott, I will be." I said.

Scott kneeled, pulling out a ring box, " Please, stay, marry me." he said quickly.

"I...." I stammered.

Well, if you liked it please tell me so I can start work on the next one. I really need feedback, especially if you like it. If you don't, I need advice and suggestions, please.
