Ok, guys, all the disclaimers apply, that means all thanks goes to Marvel

For the X-Men, I'm just making the story. And I do read all the other

Stories and they're great, keep up the good work. They inspire me!

As I awoke in the hospital room, I saw the familiar red, white, and blue and looked around, trying to see what was going on. The last thing I remembered, besides the red, white, and blue, was helping move the debris.

"Hi." Captain America smiled.

"Holy...heck." I said slowly, "You're frickin Captain America."

"Yes, I am." Captain America said, "And you're the one who moved the debris?"

"I helped." I said.

"Yes," Professor Xavier said, appearing from the door, "Very few have his unique ability."

"I'm one of a kind." I smiled.

"We were worried about you." Professor said, "You're the only X-Man that has awoken."

"Really?" I asked.

"Yes." Professor smiled.

"Yeah, I was just telling Professor Xavier that the Avengers could use a guy like you." Captain America said.

I looked at him in shock. The Avengers?! Me?!

"Uh...huh?" I asked.

Chapter 55: Invitations

I walked through the hospital, trying to piece together what just happened. I made my way into a room and the room contained Ororo, Scott, Bobby, Logan, and Piotr.

"They've been in a coma for days." Emma Frost said, looking up from beside Scott's bed.

I nodded, "Doesn't it scare you?" I asked.

"I'm terrified." Emma said, "I am, however, glad to see that you are awake."

"Are you?" I asked.

Emma looked at me nervously, "Of course." She said.

I nodded, "Have you tried going into their minds?" I asked.

"That is not allowed." Emma said, "Besides, these are in connection to the bombing. Who would have thought that everything would go so wrong?"

I was silent.

"You knew?" Emma asked.

"Not until it was already too late." I said.

"How?" Emma asked.

"A feeling." I said, "We need to figure out what to do."

"About what?" Emma said.

"About the X-Men not waking up." I said.

"God save us all." Emma said.

"Do you think there's really a god?" I asked.

Emma looked at me, shocked, "Of course." She said.

"Do you think he's more powerful than me?" I asked.

Emma just stared, "Have you lost your faith?" she asked.

"No, I lost my powers." I said, "Or, they stopped working."

"Maybe you stopped making them work." Emma said, "Do you really not believe in God?"

"How can I after what just happened?" I asked.

"How could you not?" Emma asked, "People are still alive."

"I'm going into their minds." I said, "At once."

"All of them, at once? That's not possible." Emma said.

"It is and I'll do it." I said, walking off. I went to my room and telekinetically shut the door, shoving a desk in front of it. I walked over to my bed sat in the middle of it.

Professor Xavier <Do not attempt this, Pane, it is not wise nor safe.>

Pane

I closed my eyes and tapped into something, I could feel it, the need to be where Scott was...but there were factors, when he was, how he was and it confused me! Suddenly, I felt myself extend across the universe and into somewhere different.

-

"Pane?" Scott said.

I looked around at the X-Men before me, Emma, Storm, Angel, Beast, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Cannonball, and Colossus. They wore different outfits and looked oddly different, as if years had past since I last saw him. I was startled to see them all.

"Cyclops, where did he come from?" Storm asked.

Cyclops shook his head, "I don't know." He said, putting his hand to his visor, "I think he might be a skrull."

I held my hand up, "I have no idea what that is." I said, "I was just trying to save you guys after the human-mutant peace thingy where we all blew up!"

"That was...years ago." Angel said.

"You've been gone for years." Cyclops said.

"Where am I?" I asked.

"Nobody knows." Storm said.

"I just...disappeared?" I asked, "Where are we?"

"In our new headquarters." Emma said.

"Professor Xavier, where is he?" I asked.

They all looked at me gravely.

"No." I said, "This is the world without him?" I asked.

"Who are you?" Cyclops asked.

"I'm from, the past, I think." I said, "I was at the hospital and everybody was in comas and I was, you know, going to save everyone."

"Sounds like Pane." Angel smirked.

"Dammit, this wasn't what I was shooting for!" I said angrily, "I just wanted to go in everybody's head..."

"At once." Emma finished.

I nodded her way.

"You understand him?" Cyclops asked.

"Just the last part." Emma said, "I recall what he speaks about, but that was...years ago."

"So, what's new?" I asked.

"Skrulls are invading the Earth. Professor Xavier is dead." Cyclops said, "Oh yeah, and no more mutants are being born."

"No more mutants you say?" I said, "So, wait, Professor's really gone?"

"Yes." Storm said gravely.

"And Skrulls are invading?" I asked.

"Yes." Beast said.

"What in the Hell are skrulls?" I asked.

§

As they took the time to point out the changes, I absorbed what they said and tried to make sense of it. Apparently, skrulls had infiltrated Earth and had issued some baloney about why it was a good thing. I watched the news as the Heroes and villains united to take on the skrulls.

"It's a lot." Scott said, standing at the door of the communications room.

"It is." I said, turning to him, "You're on your way to fight, aren't you?"

"We're X-Men, it's what we do." Scott said.

"Haven't changed." I smiled, "You are better at blocking your thoughts."

Scott smiled, "Are you going to be okay?" he asked.

"I'm not staying." I said, "I have to find me."

Scott sighed, "I can't help there." He said.

"You know where I am, don't you?" I asked.

"I do, but you're not yourself." Scott said, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

"I'm evil?" I asked.

"Insane." Scott said.

"Oh." I said, "Am I at least sexy insane?"

"I haven't talked to you in...it's been years." Scott said, "When you went into the world, you were great, helping people and becoming a better, stronger person. Your powers grew and something really bad happened and you just lost it. We lost you."

"Something bad? How bad?" I asked.

"Bad enough to drive you insane." Scott said, "We're not really close anymore."

"You're not going to tell me, are you?" I chuckled.

"No." he said seriously, "I can say that you joined the Avengers, that's where it all started."

"My descent into madness?" I asked.

"You becoming a hero." Scott said, "The madness came after you found out who blew up the human-mutant peace gathering."

"Who did?" I asked.

"Can't say." Scott said, "Just, take time to get your life together. Time goes by so fast."

I nodded and smiled, "I always thought I'd end up with you." I said.

"I love Emma now." Scott said quickly, "I really do."

"I'm sorry, for whatever I did to you." I said.

"How'd you..."

I kissed him, "I won't make the mistake again." I said.

Scott blushed, "The X-Men are waiting." He said, turning to leave, "If you're going to look for yourself, you should start in the Astral Plane."

"Thanks?" I asked.

Scott smiled, and then left.

§

When I appeared on the Astral Plane, I was shocked to see its disarray. There were rivers that flowed upside down with red water and birds had no wings and off in the distance, there was an amazing mansion. The X-Mansion. I made my way inside, taking time to look around and take in the scenes. Memories played over and over, like my first time at the Mansion. I walked past all the memories and onto the elevator, then down to the subbasement, but when I got there, it was just one big room. There was writing all over the wall and in the middle of the room a darker version of me stood. It was like nothing I had seen before, I was an inch taller, and my hair was messy and disheveled. My clothes were tight red and black pants with a red jacket over a tight black shirt. I stopped as the chalk that was writing on the wall by itself stopped and flew my way! I ducked and rolled onto my back and got up to be thrown against the wall telekinetically and Future me stood in front of me, my eye were black with red irises.

"Who are you?" He asked, "And how did you get in here?" he stopped and looked me over, backing up, "It's you. I remember this. You've come for answers...no...or you wouldn't know. It's...yes. He's come for answers..."

"I need to know how to get back." I said.

"He's astral, he doesn't know...but we know. We know." He said dementedly, "He doesn't know what's happening...little green men are taking over."

"Skrulls?" I asked.

He looked at me and the red fire in his eyes danced, "Riddles, the world speaks in riddles. What does one needing a planet do when they are without...they steal." He said, "It is the nature."

"The nature?" I asked.

"It's all a riddle." He said, "Long after they are gone, we will be the only."

"We're immortal?" I asked.

"What does it mean, to be immortal?" he asked, "We will die someday, just not soon."

"Why'd you cage yourself up in here? Why are you so crazy?" I asked.

"The world is unforgiving!" he shouted, "The world...is unforgiving...He told you what I've done, what we've done."

"What did we do?" I asked.

"We killed." He smirked, "It was sad, yet I smile...glorious. We cry. We are bad. We are the savior and the villain."

I frowned, thinking about what I just said, "Scott tried to help us get through this, didn't he?" I asked.

"He can never understand! He's but a mere mortal...in a world full of mortals, what are we?" he asked, "WHAT ARE WE!" he asked angrily.

"We're humans." I said.

He let out a demented laugh, "Do you think there's a God?" he asked, "Do you think he's as powerful as we are?"

"Oh God." I said.

"Correct, we are Gods! No one can match us." He said.

"If that's true, what's stopping us from taking over the world?" I asked, "We are mere mortals."

"We'll go through Hellfire." He said, "To right an injustice, we will fight to our death."

"But we're alive." I said.

"Are we?" he asked, "Is this living? Is this...We died long ago."

"When we killed?" I asked.

"When we stopped caring that we killed." He said, "When we left the side of justice."

"Do you still see him?" I asked.

"Him?" he asked, "It is not a he and he is not an it. They are eternal."

"So, he's still there...who did we kill?" I asked.

"A martyr. A villain." He said.

"How did I become this?" I asked.

"How could we not? Look outside yourself, to the men and women and the eternal fight...good versus evil...there is no good, no evil, just power." He said.

"On my worse day, I'm not you. We won't be you!" I said.

"We? We have already become me! The future hasn't changed. It's us." He said, "Do I distract you from the questions you came to ask? We are all powerful and no one can match our power, yet I hide on the Astral Plane, where I cannot be disturbed."

"Where we can't hurt anyone." I said.

He looked at away, then quickly snapped his head back at me, "We've already hurt them...and us. It's what we bring, death, chaos...and sadness." He said, "We leave our mark on the world in the shape of a bird."

"You have the Phoenix again?" I asked.

"One day, we shall rise again." He said, making the chalk go back to the wall and he turned to the wall and began writing, "We are the future, not them."

"Is Professor Xavier still dead?" I asked.

He didn't say anything else.

"So, you're not going to talk to me anymore?" I asked.

He was silent.

"I'm not going to turn into you. You are a nutsy crazy person and I'm not you, not yet. I won't make the mistakes you made." I said.

"You have already made them." He said, "Now go."

I nodded and left.

§

"You are safe, not to worry." Uatu said, "Do you know why you are here?"

"Because crazy me doesn't know how to entertain a guest?" I asked.

"You mustn't repeat what you've heard, the future is very important." Uatu said, "It should happen as it happens."

"I can change my future, can't I?" I asked.

"Why would you want to?" Uatu asked, "You view him as crazy, but is he really?"

"What do you mean? He's right?" I asked.

"Heed my warnings, do not mess with the future." Uatu said as he faded from my view.

§

When I woke up, the X-men stood around me.

"Hey, you're awake!" Scott smiled.

"So are you guys, what happened?" I asked.

"Shadow King. What happened to you?" Scott asked.

"Astral displacement." I said. It popped into my mind and I thanked Uatu, then my eyes found Captain America, "I accept." I smiled.
