Chapter 11: We are Broken

1:00 a.m.:

"Wow, look at him go." Kendall smirked, looking, " Maybe I should hire him full time."

Ballard chuckled and took a swig of his drink, " Huh?" he choked.

"Are you enjoying this?" Kendall smirked, her eyebrow in the air.

"No, no..." Ballard stammered, " So, how drunk is he?"

"A bottle and a half, then a few shots." Kendall said, " He was all down earlier, I don't know why. He wouldn't say."

Davis pushed his way through the crowd, " What's going...ADAEN?!" he said, staring up at his ex-boyfriend, who was dancing on top of the table.

Earlier....

I sat with Ballard, who seemed to be improving day by day. He had went from F- to a solid D+, but it was a good D+ and we hadn't really been working long. We had began a raport which was mostly dealing with my gayness and how it worked. He had even began comparing it to straight...things. It was odd.

"So, what? It's like..."

"Ballard...shut up." I chuckled, " It's different. If you like it, you like it."

"I don't like it." Ballard said quickly.

"You tried it?" I asked.

"No, I just..."

"Chill." I smirked, " It's not that serious."

"Oh, so are you coming to the party?" he asked.

"No. Whenever I got to a party, I always leave with more humiliation than when I come." I smirked, " So, I'm opting for a humiliation-less home party."

"So, more sulking?" he asked.

"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"You just sound like a brooder. Life is so hard and whatnot." Ballard chuckled.

"It isn't?" I asked.

"No." he said, " Life's only as hard as you make it...and as hard as the Physics final."

"If you say so." I chuckled, " I'm sure you'll be surrounded by so many other people and cups of vodka, you won't even care."

"Maybe." he said.

The BELL rang.

"Looks like I'm off to Spanish II." he said, grabbing his books and stuff, " See ya around."

"See ya." I smiled, watching him go. I got my stuff together and was about to leave when I bumped into Kendall, Ballard's sister, " Hey Kendall."

"Hey Adaen." Kendall smiled, " Did I hear right? You're not coming to my little party?"

"No." I said quickly.

"It'd be a real bummer, seeing how you and you're friend Hannah always close the parties."

"Nice." I sighed.

"But really, you're seriously gonna be at home for one of the biggest parties?" she asked.

"Why do you care?" I asked.

"Look, I think you like my brother. Don't you?" Kendall asked.

"No. Well, he's cute and he can get me to talk to him, but..." I stopped, " Why is this relevant?"

"You're a very odd kid, you know that?" Kendall asked, " I like it. Be at the party." she said, walking away.

I shook my head and walked out of the library.

When I pulled up to my house, I saw Harry standing outside. I already knew what it was about, so I wasn't in a hurry to see what he wanted. As I got out of my car, he walked over.

"Hey." Harry said.

"Hey." I said back.

"I can't stay, football practice. I just wanted to say thanks for getting me back on the team in time for play-offs." Harry said.

"You were trying to do something good and you're good at what you do." I smiled, " Besides, I've known you forever and you wouldn't do that."

"Hannah wanted to come too, but she didn't know if you would be mad." Harry said.

"I'm not. I mean, I'm just a little tired." I said quickly, " I guess I should go there."

"She's at the shop." Harry smiled.

"Harry... how do you know where Hannah is?" I asked.

"I, umm, just came from there." Harry said.

"Do you like Hannah?" I asked.

"Yeah, she's my friend. Later," he said, walking away.

I smirked and walked back to my car.

I stood at the door, looking in the Terrance family business. The Antique Store. I walked in slowly, like Christina in church. Ok, that was mean, maybe I shouldn't have said that. She's a whore. Haha, that's true enough. I mean she had taken MY boyfriend to Prom. And talked about me since day one. And...and...lots of other stuff. I guess I wasn't watching where I was going because I slipped on something and fell to the floor! As I hit the floor, I wondered had anyone seen that.

"Are you okay?" Marco asked, helping me up.

"Yeah. I think my neck broke my fall." I said, massaging my neck. As I massaged, I felt someone else's hands, " Ummm, yeah, that's probably not a good idea."

"Why not?" Marco asked.

"Cause. Ok, I didn't think this all out, but it's not." I said quickly, turning to Marco.

Marco sighed, " You're not dating Davis and..." he said.

"But you're in this thing with Julie." I said.

He looked at me, as if trying to come up with something to say.

"Look, I'm not here to talk to you. I'm here to talk to Hannah." I said quickly.

"She's at home." Marco said, " And you didn't come here to fall on your ass, but you did, so is talking to me really a stretch?"

"Yes." I chuckled, " There's this thing where I'm getting over myself."

"You choose now to listen to me?" Marco laughed.

"Hey! I listen...when you have something interesting to say." I smiled, " Plus, you like that I don't listen. Just lets you talk more."

"Right." he smiled, " So, since I can't go and I'm watching the shop, how about we go do something later?"

"Not unless it's you, me, and Julie...and even then, no." I said quickly, " Too weird."

"Are you gonna be at the party?" Marco asked.

"Eh...I don't know. I always end up crying at these things." I smiled, " Wait, you're going? That means Julie is going...Rewind..."

"She's not a big, fraidy cat." Marco chuckled.

I nodded, " I gotta go." I smirked, turning and walking away, " Later." I said, leaving.

In all the commotion, Hannah had managed to forget the big, dumb jerk that had ruined her best friendship...big, dumb jerk. Big, dumb, sweet, jerk. Hannah kept a smile though and sorted through her clothes. An hour ago, Christina had come and flopped down on her bed with a resounding note of sadness. But since then, they had watched t.v. and decided that they were going to the party tonight, despite Kendall. Ballard was still Christina's friend...sort of, right?

"Who doesn't hate you nowadays?" Hannah smiled over her shoulder.

"You...and...my dad." Christina said, over her magazine.

"Yeah, that brings us to the sad realization of our friendship." Hannah chuckled.

Christina laughed and threw her pillow out of her, " You're a riot." she said laying back down.

"So, are you okay about going tonight? Cause Kendall isn't so friendly with you." Hannah said softly.

"I'm okay. I'm going to get drunk and dance on the table. I'm a bad, bad girl." Christina said happily.

"Right." Hannah chuckled, plopping down on the bed.

DING DONG

"I wonder who that is." Hannah said, getting up to answer the door.

Christina followed her, " Maybe it's your hot brother. Maybe he forgot to tell me that he loves me." she chuckled.

"Hahaha, Doubt that." Hannah laughed, opening the door to see Zack standing in front of her, " What are you doing here?"

Christina was shocked. She didn't know what to say, she just grabbed her purse from the counter, " I can see there's about to be a war, so I'm gonna just..." she said, squeezing by Hannah and Zack, " Later, Han."

"Hannah, listen, before you...."

"No! You kissed my best friend...a guy. Then lied about it! You made me believe it!" Hannah shouted, walking away from the door.

Zack walked in, " I know, and I'm sorry, but I had to prove my point." he said.

"What point?" Hannah asked.

"That there was no spark, that I love you." Zack said.

Hannah stopped, " You love me?" she asked.

"Yes. Yes!" Zack smiled.

"Well...that still doesn't explain why you lied. If you loved me, there would have been some truth in there." Hannah sighed.

"Hey, I kissed your guy best friend isn't exactly a 'let's stay together' type truth." Zack said.

"You need to apologize to Adaen." Hannah said. Zack was silent and Hannah noticed the thoughts going through her own mind and she wondered what he was thinking.

"Ok." Zack said, " Where is he? Let's finish this."

Knock Knock

"Hold on." Hannah said, walking to the door, but before she got there, the door opened and I walked in.

"Sorry to just barge in, but...Oh shi..."

"No! No...it's alright." Hannah said, " I need you to stay."

"Please don't tell me you two plan to kill me and stuff my body somewhere." I said, looking at them uneasily.

"No. We need to have a talk." Zack said, " I need to apologize."

"You? Apologize? That's a new one." I said quickly.

"Adaen..." Hannah said.

"Sorry. Go ahead." I nodded.

Zack looked at me oddly, " I'm sorry. I was just in it to say my ass and I'm sorry." he said.

I just stared at him.

Hannah smiled, " See, now everything is good. We can be friends again." she said happily.

I chuckled to myself, " You know, I planned on coming here and smiling and talking and saying that we need to be friends again and...that we'd apologize to each other and...that's not gonna happen. I have been through more than anybody should have to be through. And you think 'I'm sorry' is gonna fix anything? Not only will it not fix anything, but it messes up everything. I have made choices and choices and GOD, do I not care how sorry you are! He lied to you and broke our friendship up and he's...he's sorry?" I asked, turning to walk away.

"Adaen what do you want from me?" Hannah asked.

"Loyalty." I said simply, not bothering to turn to her, " I want you to fight for me! I want you to be a friend and show me any respect. You almost had me fooled." I said, shaking my head as I left.

"Where are you going?" Hannah shouted as I got in the car.

"I need a drink." I said quickly.

Now...

Davis stared up at me as I danced on the table, very inebriated. When I saw him, I danced harder, the alcohol in my system making me falter a little. I turned fast to see Julie, Marco, Harry and another group of people. I spun around to see Ballard, Kendall, and their group. I spun one last time to see Davis, Christina, and their group. I chuckled to myself as I climbed off the table and walked through the crowd.

"Adaen." Davis said, grabbing my arm and twirling me around, " What are you doin?"

"Huh?" I asked, trying to focus on him, " I'm just having fun."

"Fun? You were dancing on a table." Davis said.

"Does it matter?" I asked, " I mean, I'm not YOUR boyfriend, so why do you care."

"You broke up with me." Davis said angrily.

"Yes." I said, " Yes, I did. So, I'm going to do what a single guy does. Find the first guy I come to and have sex with him."

"You don't mean that." Davis said.

"I really do." I said, walking off. Davis followed me and before I could get out of the door, Marco, Hannah, Harry, Zack, and Julie, " Oh no, it's the righteous patrol. Come to read me the riot act?"

"Riot act? Adaen, you need to calm down." Hannah said.

"What's the deal? I mean, is it time to embarrass me at this party? What? Are you going to accuse me of kissing your boyfriend again? No? Cause he kissed me. Yeah, he kissed me." I shouted, causing the party goers to look my way, " Maybe you'll out me....no, you can't. I'm already out. Maybe you'll blurt out how pathetic you are...or maybe you'll explain to these people how to be a complete BITCH." I said, " Or, maybe you'll cry...like a little baby."

"ADAEN!" Marco said angrily.

"What?" I asked, bored.

"That's enough!" Marco said quickly, looking around.

"You can't talk to my girlfriend like that." Zack said calmly.

I saw Harry's face jump at Zack's comment and I smirked, " Oh, hoho. I had almost forgot, You and Harry have been 'close'...I think I was the only one who knew that." I laughed, " Guess everybody knows now." I smirked, walking away. I walked outside and left them to look at each other and I laughed harder than I had ever laughed before. I guess it was the alcohol.

Ballard came up behind me and put his arm on my shoulder, " There's another party, you comin?" he asked.

"Oh yeah." I said, hopping in the car with him and another guy, " Who's that."

"Larry Bergman." Ballard chuckled, " I convinced him to be our designated driver."

"How?" I asked.

"He's a geek, I told him I'd hook him up." Ballard whispered.

"I'm not sure I should be driving this late, plus I think the rest of these kids are inebria..."

"Larry." Ballard said quickly, " Shut up and drive."

As we drove, I drunk more and more. The drunker I got, the more I noticed Ballard staring at me. He smiled as I caught him and I smirked back. I was about to say something when I felt his hand creep up my thigh and it skipped to my chest and moved around under my shirt, twisting my nipples. I moaned as quietly as I could but suddenly, there was a horn honking and a blur of lights as I heard the shouts and screams. The last thing I saw was a blur of lights and the feeling of being tossed upside down.
