Chapter 16: In God's hands

Adaen typing: Who said life didn't bring surprises? I think this year was the most surprising yet. I guess sometimes picking up the pieces isn't all it's cracked up to be. Because once the puzzle is together, you see it for what it really is...

"You came." Zack smiled up at her.

"Yeah...I did." Hannah said, putting her hand on his.

"Is this...are we..." he stammered.

"I don't know." she said, sitting on the bed and putting her head against his chest.

Adaen Typing: And sometimes, you have to put things in God's hands....

Kya sat on the end of her bed, weeping into her hand as Johnathan stopped in front of her. He made to say something, but she shook her head and sobbed harder as he left.

Adaen Typing: And sometimes, you become someone you're not ready to be...

"This is your baby." Doctor Tessa smiled, showing Marco and Julie the sonogram.

Marco looked at the sonogram in awe, " That is freakin awesome!" he said cheerfully.

"It's like...real." Julie said quickly.

Adaen typing: And don't you hate it when people say that nothing can surprise them? Something can surprise them. There's always a secret that can deepen everyone's curiousity and sometimes you don't even have to be there to know when you've been surprised.

Ballard and his friends sat around the X-Box 360, playing Halo 3, and first time since his tantrum at the hospital, he had begun to settle in and he was near walking again.

"Yeah, so dude...what's going on with the fag?" Bradley asked.

"What?" Ballard asked.

"I mean, he's hanging around here and stuff..." Bradley smirked, " And besides being my girlfriend's friend...it seems like you've gotten pretty friendly too."

"Drop it." Harris groaned

"No, whaddya mean?" Ballard asked, staring at Bradley intensely, " He's my friend, Brad, and he's helping me through this." he pointed down.

"Through what?" Brad asked.

"This!" Ballard said, standing. He was shaky, but he was still standing, " None of you jerks even came to see me until after I got out!"

"Hey! We did, but you threw stuff at us!" Harris said, " Look, I don't have a problem with the guy, as long as he doesn't try anything with me."

"You guys are serious?" Brad asked, puzzled.

"Yeah." Harris said.

"Whatever, so where's Davis?" Brad asked, still a little embarrassed.

"He said he had to clear his head, we're graduating in a few days and he's got stuff on his mind." Harris said, " I know you can't imagine that, you haven't had a thought in years."

"Ha ha. Very fuckin funny." Brad chuckled.

Adaen typing: Surprises happen everyday. Although a surprise is generally a happy thing, not all surprises are that happy. That bad birthday surprise, that wrong turn...that slip down the stairs after you've had hot break-up sex with that oh, so sexy ex. Oh yeah, and there is, of course, the surprise you get when you love someone and you find out who they really are. Or, who they really aren't.

Davis shot another free throw and made it, once again! He was so happy. He was graduating tonight, he had finally gotten back with Adaen, and he had a scholarship to the college of his choice! Everything in his life was going so great. He was about to shoot when I walked in, " Hey, babe." he said, walking over and kissing me.

"Hey." I said softly.

Davis immediately knew something was wrong, " What's wrong?" he asked.

"I have something to tell you." I said quietly.

"Look, everything's going to be Okay, I got the scholarship, we're in love and..." Davis said

"I slept with Marco." I blurted, looking away from him.

"Huh?" he asked, " You...you what?!"

"It was Prom night. And I was sad and we weren't...and we did it." I said, looking back up at him. His face filled me with shame and I just wanted him to say anything. Anything at all, " Please say something."

"I asked you, after that night, I asked you! And you told me that you were a virgin!" he shouted, " You lied."

"I did. And I'm so sorry." I said angrily.

"You're sorry?! I cannot believe you? A girl kisses me, then you go and sleep with possibly the worst person you could find?!" Davis growled, " I have taken a lot of shit from you, the broken dates, the excuses! I'm done."

"What?" I asked.

"Done." Davis said walking away.

"I love you!" I shouted. He didn't stop and I just couldn't take it, I left.

Adaen typing: That's just my life, I guess, my surprise. I guess the only surprise left would be to go home. Home. It's a relative term. I hear it's where the heart is. But what about the broken hearted? Is there two homes? Or is there an absence of a home? It's a crazy thought. I like to push the envelope. Having my parents home was SURPRISingly delightful. Once again, SURPRISE without the E, plus the ingly. They were actually good parents, despite the disappearing act. I made my inside, trying to avoid the family.

"Hey, little bro." Eric said, coming from the kitchen.

"Hey." I jumped.

"What's wrong?" eric asked.

"Nothing." I said quickly.

"Come on, you've been crying." Eric said.

"A mistake. One that I made and...I'm really sorry I made it." I said, almost crying, " I don't know how to make it right."

Eric hugged me, " It's okay, kid." he said.

Nelly Furtado, In God's hands:

I looked at your face I saw that all the love had died I saw that we had forgotten to take the time

I, I saw that you couldn't care less about what you do You couldn't care less about the lies You couldn't find the time to cry

We forgot about love We forgot about faith We forgot about trust We forgot about us

Chorus: Now our love's floating out the window Our love's floating out the back door Our love's floating up in the sky, In heaven, where it began Back in God's hands

You said that you had said all that you had to say You say: baby, it's the end of the day

We gave a lot but it wasn't enough We got so tired

that we just gave up

Chorus: Now our love's floating out the window Our love's floating out the back door Our love's floating up in the sky, In heaven, where it began Back in God's hands, back in God's hands

bridge: We didn't respect it We went and neglect it We didn't deserve it But I never expected this

Our love floated out the window Our love floated out the back door Our love floated up in the sky, to heaven, it's part of a plan it's back in God's hands, back in God's hands

oh we didn't last, it's a thing of the past no we didn't understand just what we had oh I want it back, just what we had I want it back, just what we had

"Are you ready?" Hannah asked Marco as he and Julie finished getting ready.

"I am." they said in unison.

"Let's go then." Hannah smiled as she walked into the living room, " Ready to see graduation?"

"Yeah, baby." Zack said, giving her a kiss.

As Marco stood in line, he waited for the procession to start and everyone's attention was tuned to their lives. The rest of their lives. As he stood, he felt a tap on his shoulder and turned, immediately being punched by Davis, who growled as he went for Marco. Marco got to his feet in time to catch him and the burst through a banner that led to the stage and during a speech being given by the Principal. As they fought on stage, the teachers seperated them. Everybody rushed the stage and somehow a brawl erupted, spreading through the football field!

Adaen typing: I didn't understand. Not what I had. After all the madness, I found myself waiting. I wish I could be someone else. " It is only possible to live happily ever after on a day to day basis". -Margaret Bonnano. Maybe she was too right about it. This whole year started a bang. A dead Darrieus, Me being outed, friendships being destroyed, and everything else I couldn't imagine. Seems like everyone wanted a piece of me...hey, look, I'm Britney. Now all I need is a K-Fed...you know, a cute, but totally gold-digging lover. Or I could put the pieces back together in my life. I picked the next choice, running away like a scaredy cat. It was a bad choice, but a choice. I had to get away from this town. There is nothing here anymore. So, as I walked across the terminal, I looked back one time to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything. I looked back and noticed that I had forgotten something.

"Why are you running?" I asked myself. I sighed to myself and turned to the desk, giving the lady my ticket. I walked to the entrance to the airplane and paused when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned to see Kendall and she immediately hugged me, " Hey, what're you doing here?"

"Going to New York, duh!" Kendall said, " You're not the only one with rich grandparents. As a matter of fact, our grandparents know each other really well and...and! They live in the same building!" she said giddily.

I smiled and chuckled, " Let's go." I smiled as we walked to the plane, arm and arm. This all I wanted from the beginng...a best friend and a chance to dow what I wanted. And as I leave, I'm reminded of a quote from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, " Charlie, don't forget about the man who got everything he ever wanted. He lived happily ever after."

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed. Please give me some feedback because that's how I get started. And this is the end of the first arc, but we're moving to a new city for the summer. New city, new people...new story. Well, not really, just new drama. but don't worry, you'll be updated on Hargrove's MVP's. Plus, the changes that come with Senior year, who's gonna miss that?
