Adaen: Words are symbols for what we feel. We need them to communicate. Without words, there is no language. A given, but tricky logic. Most good communication is lost in translation. Sometimes, words aren't the best symbols. Sometimes you need more...

The family had noticed lately that Kya was gaining a lot of weight. She was extremely elusive when on the phone and when asked why she'd gained so much weight. Nothing prepared me for what she was about to say. We all sat in the living room, Dad included. We were waiting for Kya to say something. Carlie was sitting on my mom's lap.

"I know you're all wondering why I called everyone here." Kya said.

"I think I can guess." Mom said.

"I'm pregnant." Kya said quickly, "Around five months."

There was a very definite silence as some of us were trying to catch our mouths from falling, others were not so surprised.

"We were so waiting on you to tell us." Hope smiled.

"You knew?" Kya asked.

"Well, it wasn't exactly a well-kept secret. We noticed the weight gain and the moodiness..." Mom said.

"Of course some of us are a little shocked." I said.

"Namely the men!" Dad said, "Who's the father?"

"I really don't want to say." Kya said, "I'm keeping the baby and I'd really like support."

"Of course." Mom said, hugging her.

"You don't want to say who's the father?!" Dad asked, "That must mean something."

"No, I just don't want anyone to know." Kya said.

"Well, I think it's great Ky." Eric smiled standing, "You're having a baby, I'm moving...this family is moving forward."

"Are you all stoned? She's already a single mother." Dad said, "Nothing wrong with it, but is it really the life you want?"

"Yes." Kya said, "I don't need your permission."

"You know what...I'm still a part of this family..."

"When you're not conceiving babies." Mom said softly.

"So, now I'm not a part of this family?" Dad asked.

"Of course you are, but this is her decision." Mom said, "Besides, she's five months."

"It's a girl." Kya said.

There was a silence before the doorbell. Mom walked to the door and opened it to see two cops.

"Mrs. Lawerence, we have a warrant for your son. Is he here?" Will Scoffield, a local cop asked.

Chapter 45: After Shock

Adaen: Though, not all communication would fall. Some communication would endure. Some things you just expect and know. Some things are inescapable...

"Why are you defending him? He knew who shot my husband and he didn't say a word!" Hannah argued.

"I'm not taking sides. I'm just saying, if it were Harry, what would you do?" Marco asked.

"It wouldn't be Harry because he's not a murderer!" Hannah frowned, "You would think that someone who expects honesty from everyone else would be honest!"

"He didn't know. Not until a few days ago." Marco confessed.

"How do you know?" Hannah asked.

"He told me before the party."

"And you..."

"I convinced him to tell you, it's just that you got there before he could tell you." Marco said.

"He helped the guy get away!"

"No, he let him leave, there's a difference. Would you want him to fight someone who was so dangerous?" Marco asked.

"Your brother-in-law is in the hospital and you're worried about Adaen?" Hannah ashed, "What, are you in love with him?"

"No. That would be...I'm just sayin." Marco said.

"I'm going back to the hospital." Hannah said, walking away.

-

Adaen: Some things are symbols without even knowing it. Some things are symbols and we know full well what they mean. And it makes every action so much more poignant.

I slammed the door, "I swear I'm going to kick her ass!" I frowned.

"You can't fight a girl." Hope said.

"I'll pay someone." I frowned.

"Well, honey, it is sort of your fault." Mom said.

"You did help this guy escape custody." Dad said.

I chuckled angrily, "I let him leave, there's a difference! I didn't help him evade the cops. I barely even knew." I asked.

"Maybe you should apologize to Harry and Hannah." Hope said.

"No." I frowned, "That was Hannah's way of saying screw you and I get the message very clearly."

"Do you know where he is?" Dad asked.

"No! He wouldn't tell me." I said, "And I haven't been in contact with him."

"They let you go. It's over now." Mom said.

"Oh, it's so far from over." I frowned, "This is war."

"War? Honey, what are you going to do?" Mom asked.

I ignored her, heading to my room.

"I don't like the sound of that." Dad said.

"That was so something Blair Waldorf would say." Hope smirked, "I definitely want to see this."

"I don't like it." Mom said.

"Can't we stop him?" Dad asked.

"He's mad at me." Mom said, "And for good reasons. I shouldn't have said all that to him."

"No, you shouldn't have but you're a good mother. If we're nothing, we're good parents." Dad said quickly.

"How is Delta?" Mom asked.

"Seven months pregnant." Dad said, "Are you seeing anyone?"

"No. We're not divorced yet." Mom said.

"Holding out hope?" He asked.

"No, I'm being respectful." She said, walking off to the kitchen.

-

Adaen: Symbols control our lives. Willingly or unwillingly, they control how we see the world and what our interaction is with others. War. War is miscommunication...

Hannah's cell phone rang and she picked it up. She read the message quickly and her mouth dropped.

"What is it?" Harry asked.

"Oh my God!" She said, "He didn't..."

Harry took the phone, "Wow. You slept with a cousin and caught Chlamydia? That's your first time?" he asked.

"That's so...oh my god." She said.

"What?"

"He's waging war on me!" She said.

"Oh God, really? That's what you chose to wear today? Did it come with flowered vest?" Adaen smirked, "Cute...you'd fit in right on Sesame Street."

Jennifer Caldwell chuckled as the poor freshman slinked away.

"You shredded her." Jennifer smiled, "Who would have guessed you were just a freshman last year."

"I'm popular. I'm sexy. And I'm honest. All good traits." Adaen smiled.

"Who would've thought you would turn into to such a Plastic." Jennifer smiled, "We're well on our way."

Jennifer was a grade ahead of Adaen and the typical mean girl. She was as tall as Adaen and African American. She was beautiful and she knew it. She was morally ambiguous at best. When they invented bullying, they had her in mind.

"He isn't that your best friend?" Jennifer smiled, pointing out Hannah, "Why do you hang out with her?"

"I just have since I was little." Adaen said, "She's so...boring."

"I'll say. She makes algebra look exciting."

"And the hair. The make-up. The only thing she has going for her is being smart and no cares for that these days." Adaen smiled.

Now...

"Before Adaen was a good person, he was the mean guy, don't you remember?" Hannah asked.

"I seem to remember him being a total bitch...vaguely." Harry said.

"This is bad."

"Are we afraid of him?" Harry joked.

"We should be." Hannah said nervously.

-

Adaen: Sometimes communication is so loud, there's nothing else to be said.

"You just kicked her ass over the internet." Hope said, "Why?"

"She waged war." I said angrily, "Everybody has. I used to think these people were my friends, but I've never been so sure that they're out to get me."

"You serious?"

"Dude..." Eric said at the door, "You just squealed on your best friend.

"False." I frowned.

"Look, Mark's here." Eric said letting Marco enter. He and Hope then left.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"You just blasted my sister with technology. On a list of things I'm here to do to you, talking is one." Marco said.

"She so started it! She called the cops on me!" I said.

"What is wrong with you?" Marco asked, "Are you on your meds."

"Why're you here?" I asked.

"I'm worried about you." Marco said.

"Me? You're worried about me?" I asked.

"I still care for you...deeply." Marco said.

"Then why did you tell Hannah?" I asked.

"I didn't, I swear." Marco frowned.

"Fine, then who did?" I asked.

Marco shrugged.

"Somebody's causing chaos." I said, "Still, she basically sent me to jail."

"Why did you bring up your first time before?" Marco asked, "You...Umm..."

"It hurt. I don't think of you just as a friend."

"Boyfriend?"

"I was going to say best friend." I said.

Marco blushed, "I'm sorry. I just...I just thought you felt like I do." He said quickly.

"You feel that way about me?" I asked.

"I do." Marco smiled, "I think I love you."

"This could potentially end our friendship." I frowned.

"Not if this is forever." Marco said, walking closer.

I turned from him. It wasn't practical! We are friends. If we move past here, our relationship will change forever and has a chance of never going back to this. Add that to the fact that I just waged a war on his sister...

Marco turned me around, "I want to take the risk." He said, kissing me. It was a slow, tantalizing kiss. There were fireworks. It felt just as good to kiss him as it did to kiss Davis.

"You have to go." I said quickly, "We can't do this."

"Are we supposed to ignore this? To ignore that?" Marco asked.

"Exactly." I said, pushing him out the door. My phone dinged, signaling a new text and I walked over and read it, then smiled to myself.

-

Adaen: Sometimes communication is so quiet you never see it coming.

"So, this..." Kendall said, staring at the ceiling. It had been a wild night, ending with either the worst mistake or the best decision she could have made. At the time, it seemed like a pretty good idea...but now it seemed like the situation that it was, "I mean you were great...it was great, but..." She didn't know what to say. It was a good night. But now in the daylight it was...not.

Janet sat up and pulled on a bra and panties. To her, it was just another one night stand, "Look, it was just a screw." She said quickly.

"Huh?" Kendall asked.

"I'm not gonna lie and say I've never done it before, but it was just a screw. An initiation for my new little sister." Janet smirked.

"Really? What kind of family do you come from?" Kendall asked.

"Same as you." Janet said, sliding on her pants, "You slept with your brother's wife."

"Oh God." Kendall frowned, "I've got to tell him. Not that he'll care..."

"Why tell him if he doesn't care?" Janet said, buttoning her shirt, "This was what it was."

"You can't be serious." Kendall said, "I've never even thought of girls like this! You can't just screw me and leave...there needs to be talking."

"We just talked little sister." Janet smirked, leaving.

-

Adaen: And on rare occasions, we figure out that our communication was miscommunicated.

"You kissed him?" Hannah asked, "After everything he just did to me, you kissed him?!"

"Hannah, I love him." Marco frowned, "What he did was wrong, but think of how many times you've publicly embarrassed him."

"But..."

"No buts Han. He's wrong this time but you've been wrong before." Marco said.

"He knew who shot my husband."

"Only a little while before you did." Marco said, "And he was going to tell you."

"He was?" Hannah asked, "But he just let Oz leave."

"No, he didn't. Oz was leaving and wouldn't tell him where he was going. He hasn't even heard from Oz." Marco explained.

"Crap...what did I do?" Hannah asked, "I was so mad that I screwed everything up. And he's pissed."

"Majorly." Marco said sadly.

"So you kissed him and he rushed you out?" Hannah asked, "I'm sorry. It's probably awkward for him. Do you think he'll be at the party tonight?"

"There's a party?" Marco asked.

"For Eric, he's moving in with his girlfriend." Hannah said, "I should go and apologize in front of everyone."

"He's bound to be there." Marco smiled.

-

Adaen: Communication...symbols...they're all just noise. Especially if you don't know what they mean. Or miss a vital piece of the understanding.

The club was packed with friends as "Moment for Life" by Nicki Minaj played over the loud speakers! Everyone sang along and danced. It was a good night. Ballard had showed up with his wife and was partying on the other side of the club with Davis and Christina. Christina brought her spicy new Latin lover! Kendall was dancing with some guy and Eric and his girlfriend danced not too far from them. They were wrapped in the song. I was walking through the club, making sure everything was alright when I saw Marco and Hannah. He looked at me and started towards me, but I ducked behind a dancing crowd and came face to face with Davis.

"Hey." Davis said.

"Shouldn't you be with Ryan?" I said, turning to leave.

He grabbed my arm and turned me to him, "Look, I'm sorry about how I've been treating you lately. You just hurt me."

"Oz wasn't my boyfriend. We only kissed once...twice." I said.

"Doesn't matter, I wasn't your boyfriend either."

"No, you weren't." I frowned.

"Doesn't mean I wasn't trying." Davis said, "You've been blowing me off."

"I didn't blow you off." I frowned, "School's been kicking my ass and I have problems."

"Maybe I could help you."

"Can you cure depression?!" I asked.

"No. I can't. You're depressed?" He asked, "Why didn't..."

"It's not something I'm proud of." I frowned.

"I'm so sorry." Davis said, "So so so sorry."

"I already forgave you." I said.

"No...there's something you need to know." Davis said.

"That we've all been trying to take you down for months now." Ryan said standing beside Davis with some girl.

Our friends had began to surround us.

"And exactly who are you?" I asked the girl.

"Leslie." She said, "My brother was Larry."

I looked at her, half expecting another slap.

"Yeah, you do remember my brother right? You and Ballard killed him."

"That's not what happened." Marco said.

"He had to drive you and drunky around because he wasn't cool enough to ride with you." Leslie said, "You took him away from us. And did you ever apologize? Do you ever feel anything for anyone."

I looked to Ryan, "You said we." I asked.

"I don't like you anyways." Ryan smirked, "And I recruited Davis."

"I..."

"Is it true?" I asked.

"Yes, but..."

"Davis...why would you do something like that?" Kendall asked.

"It was...I just..."

"We sent the evidence of your father's affair to your mother, we let the cat out of the bag about your boyfriend nearly killing your best friend's husband, and a whole lot of the bad that's gone through your life. How does it feel? What do you have to say?" Leslie said angrily.

I punched Ryan to the ground, "Not words." I said.

"You can't exactly punch me." Leslie said.

"But I can." Jennifer said, walking up behind her and punching her to the ground, "And I thought I'd miss all the fun."

I looked from Davis to Ryan and Leslie, "Nope. The fun's just starting." I said quickly.

"I can't believe you." Eric frowned, "I thought you cared about Adaen."

"I don't want to see you. Ever." I said to Davis as I left with Jennifer.

"I'm going to sue. You all saw that!" Ryan frowned.

"Actually...we didn't." Kendall smirked.

"Don't think I've forgotten about you, Ballard." Leslie said, walking away with Ryan.

"I swear I..." Davis stammered.

"Get out of my club. Now." Eric said angrily.

Davis nodded and left.

"Was that Jennifer Caldwell?" Hannah asked.

"I don't think that's good." Marco frowned.

-

Adaen: Communication is more than symbols, more than words. Communication just is. And after there's no more communication to be had...there's action. There's actual war.

"I'm glad you're back." I said as Jennifer and I sat in my room. We had a bottle of alcohol and were taking shots.

"Glad to be back." She smirked, "I can't believe how shady this place is. Sounds like a fun little playground you got here."

"You know, you're right." I smiled, "How about we play."

Jennifer giggled, "Now you're speaking my language." She smirked.
