G. A. Patrick

The month has gone by pretty quickly and we are sitting here, the stress mounting, knowing graduation is Saturday and we will be giving the most important speeches of our lives to date. Charley and Dale were finishing their finals and Jaiden and I decided to have a slow, peaceful day and go over our Valedictorian words of wisdom for Saturday and then have lunch at Tony's. What are we going to do when we are in Pennsylvania and craving Tony's all-meat pizza or one of his Italian hoagies?

At lunch time, we strolled over to Tony's to avoid the traffic of students headed home until summer semester starts. It's a short semester and there will be a number of students staying for that. For those going home it will be a summer of fun, rest, and partying. For some unfortunate souls, they are going to be working. Jaiden and I would be taking the summer off at Mom Reynolds' and Dad's recommendation because when med school starts, we aren't going to have time for anything but school.

"Peyton, what do you want to do this summer?"

"Jaiden, when we get off our honeymoon and fly to Mom and Dad's house, I'll have my car there and I'd like to drive over and see Charley and Dale." "I don't know any reason we can't unless something unexpected happens."

It's Saturday morning, 8 am, and we are to graduate at 10. The Chancellor will conduct the opening ceremonies, and the President will declare all students graduated from their respective majors. Then Jaiden will give his valedictory speech first and I will follow. What everybody doesn't know, even Jaiden, I have changed my speech.

All the preliminary introductions were made and the President summoned Jaiden to the podium to begin his speech. "Honorees, graduates, parents and guests. Mr. Jaiden Reynolds."

"Jaiden began, "Governor, Chancellor, President Jackson, Parents and fellow students, welcome to the 2020 graduation ceremonies of Wellstone University. First before anything else, please stand and look in the direction of your parents and thank them for their support with the most thunderous applause and cheers ever." The noise was deafening and the parents were visibly moved. "Congratulations on your hard work and the diploma which is about to be bestowed upon you by this great University. When you leave these hallowed halls, if you never pick up another book, if you never look back upon our experiences at Wellstone, the friendships made, the relationships forged, and find peace and contentment with the person you will love for the remaining days of your lives, and if you never pay the experiences forward, your history here will be for naught. Peyton, thank you for challenging me and for helping me get through all the awesome experiences. You have made me the happiest person on this earth, you are the love of my life. That we will be married very soon, well, it will be the absolute perfect follow up for the achievements we have made together here at Wellstone...."

The applause and shouts, like the first, were long and loud as Jaiden completed his speech and took his seat.

The President re-approached the podium and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, graduates, we will now hear from the first ever co-Valedictorian in the history of Wellstone University, Mr. Peyton Riley. Mr. Riley."

"Governor, Chancellor, President Jefferson, faculty, parents, fellow graduates and guests: "Ditto." I turned and took my seat as the auditorium erupted with thunderous applause, yells, and much laughter.

President Jefferson approached the podium, looked at me and said, "WOW, Ladies and gentlemen, graduates, Mr. Riley has just accomplished the second first-ever event in the history of Wellstone University: the shortest and best Valedictorian's speech in history." That sparked the most thunderous shouts, whistles, and applause of the day. .

It just didn't stop and President Jefferson approached the podium and extended his hand toward me. The loud applause just increased in volume and in length. Jaiden said, "Love, get up and take a bow, you earned it!"

I got up, walked to the front of the stage, took a gentleman's bow and the celebratory noise continued another 10 minutes as President Jefferson motioned for me to take another bow, so I did.

Then he calmed and quieted the audience and graduates. "Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Riley, would you please approach the lectern. Jaiden and I looked at each other as if to ask: "What now?"

"Ladies and gentlemen, you heard Mr. Reynolds mention that he and the love of his life would soon be married. I am proud to tell you that will be the third first-ever event in the history of Wellstone University, the first ever co-valedictorians of Wellstone getting married; meet the love of Mr. Reynolds' life, Mr. Peyton Riley.

The applause began again and was more thunderous than before. The graduates began loudly chanting "Jaiden, Peyton" over and over and over. Jaiden turned to me and we embraced each other and the celebration of our pending marriage got even louder. Jaiden and I had no idea we were that well known much less that well liked.

Our parents were asked to make their way to the stage. While they were making their way down, the President surprisingly asked for Charley and Dale to appear on the stage as well.

When our parents, along with Charley and Dale, were on the stage, President Jefferson began to announce the most unexpected statement ever. "Dr. Peggy Reynolds, Dr. and Mrs. James Riley will you each please approach the lectern. Dr. Peggy Anderson, would you please come to the lectern and stand by your son. Dr. and Mrs. James Jacobs, will you please come and stand next to your son. Mr. Dale Anderson and Mr. Charles Leonard, will you please come forward and one of you stand by Peyton and the other by Jaiden."

When everyone was standing as the President had requested, he began his announcement: "Ladies and gentlemen, that includes you, graduates, I am extremely proud to now announce the fourth, fifth and sixth ever historical announcements for Wellstone University: Jaiden Reynolds and Peyton Riley will you please take a step forward and parents will you please stand behind you sons."

"Jaiden and Peyton, the things you have accomplished at Wellstone University have been unprecedented. You both worked hard to preserve the relationship between two students of whom we are very proud and extremely grateful to have had on the Wellstone campus. You two not only saved their relationship, you saved their college career. Because of your efforts, those two students now have a 3.5 GPA at Wellstone. That journey began with their GPAs standing at 2.6. I did get their permission before making that statement."

"Peyton, Jaiden, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in association with the Pennsylvania Department of Higher Education, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Alumni Association of LECOM, and in concert with the North Carolina Board of Governors of the University System of North Carolina, and the Administration, staff and the Alumni Association of Wellstone University, we are extremely proud and honored to announce that the two of you have been awarded a full-ride scholarship to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine." Our parents were dumbfounded! And so were Jaiden and I!

Our parents started crying and as Jaiden came over to give me a hug, Dad saw my eyes roll back in my head and he caught me before I hit the floor oblivious to anything and everything around me.

Mom Reynolds rushed over and checked all my vitals and looked up at Dad and Mom and said, "The poor boy just fainted over the excitement." You could have heard a pin hit the floor it got so quiet.

Dad looked at Dr. Mom and said," Peyton can be a horse's ass at times, and I am a Veterinarian, so between me and you, we can take good care of him." Dr. Mom howled.

When I had fully awakened, Jaiden was holding me, Dad had his arm around my waist, and the audience launched into another round of applause.

I looked at Jaiden and asked "Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" "Peyton, my love, you did." "WOW!"

Ladies and gentlemen, the fifth historical announcement again includes Mr. Riley and Mr. Reynolds, but the surprise in this announcement is that it is concerning Dale Anderson and Charles Leonard. Charley, Dale, before I make the announcement, I have a surprise for you."

"Mr. and Mrs. Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, would YOU please come to the Lectern." Charley and Dale looked at each other and tears started rolling down their faces. Neither had any idea their parents were at Wellstone today, and neither had any idea about the announcement waiting to be made.

As Dale's and Charley's parents walked onto the stage smiling from ear to ear, both Charley and Dale walked over to their parents and hugged them and stood in the hugs for several minutes after which their Dad's gave the two of them a kiss on their foreheads. Peyton leaned over and whispered to Jaiden, "Geez, their Dads, too!" Apparently, Dr. Dad heard Peyton and broke into a chuckle.

Dale's Dad, who had been so against their relationship and their lifestyles, pulled both boys unto a huddle and told them he was so sorry for the way he had acted and that he loved them both.

Charley, with heavy tears pouring from his eyes, then walked over to his parents.

Mr. Anderson then told Dale, "Son, I really am sorry for my behavior and the anger I exhibited and I want you to know I will love and accept who you love and who you marry." He then pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to Dale. Dale looked at what his Dad had given him and then looked over at Jaiden and I as his chin hit the floor. He closed the package, walked over to Jaiden and I and asked us to look in the package, not to let Charley see it, and when he motioned to us, to bring it over to him. The Dean of Men (my uncle) looked over at Jaiden and I while Dale and Charley weren't looking and we handed the package to him at his request.

Mr. Anderson then told them, "boys, we need to walk over and stand with President Jefferson." On the way to the lectern, Mr. Leonard grabbed Charley and pulled him aside for a second. He put his arms around Charley and said, "Charley, like Mr. Anderson, I, too, am so sorry for being such ass about your lifestyle and your relationship. What Mr. Anderson said to the both of you, I knew about ahead of time, as did your mother's and I promise the same thing to you and Dale that his Dad promised.

Dale and Charley, in heavy tears, then walked to the lectern.

President Jefferson cleared his throat: And now for the fifth first-ever for Wellstone, Charley, Dale, in honor of your extreme academic achievements over the past two years bringing your GPA of 2.8 to 3.8, and in honor of the progress you have made in your conduct, your community service, and in your relationship in general, Penn State University, the Governor of Pennsylvania, and the powers that be over the University System of Pennsylvania, and in conjunction with the Governor and the University System of North Carolina and Wellstone University, Penn State University is proud to offer you both a complete, full-ride scholarship in the Master's program in the Penn State Department of Engineering starting fall semester.. If you accept, when you complete the Penn State Engineering Master's program, your last year and a half at Wellstone will be credited with your success at Penn State and Wellstone University will invite you back to the graduation exercises for the Class of 2023 to award you your Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. The question now is, will you accept? Charley and Dale looked toward their parents who were nodding yes and they replied affirmatively to President Jefferson. "Then it will be officially done."

All three of the Leonard's and the Anderson's had huge tears rolling down their faces as President Jefferson delivered yet another surprise. "Would the Governors of the great States of Pennsylvania and North Carolina please approach the lectern?"

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you The Honorable Tom Jacobs, Governor of the Great State Pennsylvania and The Honorable James Procter, Governor of the Great State of North Carolina. Again, the audience went wild for Charley and Dale who were now sobbing. The Governors smiled as their parents got them calmed down and ushered them over to the two Governors.

Governor Procter then said, `Young men, we are just going to refer to you in the same way as your friends. The Governor of North Carolina turned to Charley and said, "Charley, it is with extreme pride and excitement that on behalf of the great States of Pennsylvania and North Carolina that I present this scholarship to a young man who has earned it through his scholarly explosion over the past two years, his expansive personal growth, and due to the great esteem you enjoy among your fellow students."

Governor Jacobs then approached the podium and said, "Dale, I have never been so proud as I am right now being able to present this scholarship to a young man of whom I am profoundly proud. For the same reasons Governor Procter expounded on for Charley, I joyfully present to you your full-ride scholarship to Penn State University.

Then another surprise, `Will the Honorable Jeff Jansen. Mayor of Pensacola, Florida and the Honorable Tim Jacobs, Mayor of Milton, Florida please approach the lectern."

Mayor Jacobs spoke first at the lectern followed by Mayor Jansen. They poured praise on Charley and Dale for their accomplishments. Then Mayor Jansen stepped next to the lectern and pulled a rather large envelope from inside his suit coat and handed it to Mayor Jacobs.

Mayor Jacobs looked at Charley and Dale and said, "will you two gentlemen please step forward.

Dale, Charley, Mayor Jansen and I, on behalf of your city's and the residents therein, are please to present to each of you a proclamation from each of us proclaiming today Charles Leonard Jr. Day in Milton and Dale Anderson Jr. Day in Pensacola. Both mayors then read their respective proclamations and handed them to Charley and Dale who then got a standing ovation.

Charley and Dale shook each Mayor's hand saying "thank you" and then started walking to their parents. Mayor Jacobs called out to Dale and Charlie. "Young men wait just a moment before you join your parents, there is one more thing. You two do not know this, but many articles have been in the newspapers and on the television news programs praising each of you for your achievements and other stories about your academic successes.

They were contacted by Wellstone University for the same reasons we have already stated. Neither you nor your parents know this: As a result of all we have spoken about, four benefactors came forward and made rather large donations to be given to each of you on behalf of all the citizens in the cities where you each live. That considered, Mayor Jansen and I are extremely grateful and proud to announce that your meals for the next three years will be paid in full." Dale and Charley were wide eyed and again shedding huge tears.

"Not only that, enough donations came in from various citizens of Milton and Pensacola enabling your college loans to be paid in full. That has been done!" Charley's and Dale's parents were in shock, so much so that Dr. Mom went over to check on them to make sure they were going to be ok.

Amid the raucous noise and applause, Charley and Dale, also in shock, shook each mayor's hand, saying thank you, again, and walked back to be with their parents.

After all the names were called and the degrees were conferred, President Jefferson stepped back to the lectern and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I regret having to admit this, but before you are excused for the day to make your sons and daughters go back and clean their rooms before they head home, I forgot the seventh first-ever to occur at Wellstone University. I have been asked by another individual to present to you this video. Jaiden and Peyton, will you again come to the lectern and bring Charley and Dale with you?"

When President Jefferson said, "to make your sons and daughters clean up their rooms before they head home," the parents in the auditorium howled.

"Ladies and gentlemen, if you will, please turn your attention to the magnetron behind me."

A video came on with a picture of a gorgeous split-level home and an expertly manicured lawn.

As beautiful, relaxing music played, a camera panned the entirety of the yards and the interior of the home.

There were two Huge bedrooms on the second level of the house both with large showers and massive jacuzzi tubs. Suddenly, a man appeared in front of the house and began to say, "Peyton and Jaiden, on behalf of certain benefactors and both of your parents, the house each of you and the people in this auditorium just saw, well, it's yours."

"With everybody's love, enjoy it along with Charley and Dale while y'all are at LECOM and Penn State!" This time, I caught Jaiden before he hit the floor. Dr. Mom came over with smelling salts and revived him.

He started balling and I joined him. Our parents, they held us in a very strong embrace and cried with us. Charlie, Dale and their parents joined us and cried with us.

I noticed Mr. and Mrs. Leonard and Mr. and Mrs. Anderson take several steps back.

President Jefferson stepped back up to the lectern and started saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, you are now dis...please excuse me for a moment."

The Dean of Men stepped up to the President and whispered something in his ear and handed him the package Jaiden and I had held for Dale earlier.

President Jefferson then said, "Ladies and gentlemen, apparently today is going down in the record books as the largest first-ever day in the history of Wellstone University and I doubt the record will ever be broken. There is an eighth first-ever to take place at this time. That said, Mr. Dale Anderson, the floor is yours."

Dale took Charley by the hand and led him to the front of the stage.

Peyton looked at Jaiden and exclaimed, "Oh my God, do you think?" Jaiden looked at Peyton with tears flooding from his eyes and couldn't say a word. Dale pulled a small box from the manila envelope we held for him earlier and got down on one knee. The place exploded in applause and loud shouts of joy as Dale looked up at Charlie and said, "Charley, I have been my happiest ever with you and we have grown so much in the past two years with Peyton's and Jaiden's help. Like Jaiden said to Peyton earlier, you are the love of my life. Will you do me the honor of marrying me? There was so much emotion between the Andersons and the Leonards as Charley said, "Yes, Dale, I will."

Geez, I thought this auditorium erupted before, but it was nothing like now as Dale came to his feet, kissed Charley on the cheek and pulled him into a strong embrace unlike any Jaiden and I had seen them give each other in the last two years.

President Jefferson stepped to the lectern and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I hope to goodness you are now dismissed. Please be safe as you celebrate this weekend." More applause as everyone started gathering their things together and leaving the auditorium.

Jaiden, I, Charley and Dale met up with our parents in front of the auditorium.

Dad looked at me and said, "screw Tony's, we are all going to Ruth Criss' to celebrate. Peyton protested, "but Dad, we always go to Tony's to celebrate." His Dad looked at him and matter of factly said, "I don't care." He invited the Andersons and the Leonards to join us and, with a little insistence, they agreed to join us, Dad's treat.

We all got into three cars and headed toward Ruth Criss'. As we passed Tony's, Jaiden said, "What the hell? The biggest day of the year and Tony's is locked down and dark inside." Dale said, "That's weird."

We arrived at Ruth Criss' and everybody met up in the parking lot. As we went inside, Darryl said, "good afternoon Dr. Riley, the entire restaurant is at your disposal. Your tables are the long tables in the back of the dining room."

As we all walked into the dining room, all hell broke loose. Everybody stood and started applauding and yelling "congratulations Peyton, Jaiden, Charley, and Dale."

Suddenly, I, Jaiden, Dale and Charley saw Tony standing in the middle of everybody. Then we noticed everybody there were the regulars at Tony's. I looked at Dad and his eyes were red and teary. He said, "Now do you understand, son. All these people really love you four boys."

It was the same for the Andersons, the Leonards, and, especially for Dr. Mom: red, teary eyes.

"We walked over to Tony as he walked toward us. When we met each other in the middle of the dining room, Tony pulled all four of us boys into a huddle-hug. As he did that, everybody else joined in for the largest huddle-hug in the history of Brevard. "Tony," Jaiden said, "this has to be costing you a fortune to close down Tony's to be here." Tony said," Y'all are worth it. Besides, I also own this Ruth Criss franchise and this party is on me and everybody else here. We all love you four to the moon and back."

All four of us boys sat down, put our heads in our hands and lost it. Never in our lives have we felt so loved, so accepted, so fortunate, and, yet, so emotional.

We had the best meal ever thanks to Tony and all his regulars – and our parents. Our parents knew the plan all along. Dad and Dr. Mom have done it again! Jaiden spoke up and said, we can't forget Becky having a hand in all this."

We both got a tap on our shoulders and turned around to see Becky and the ladies from Dr. Mom's office. We embraced each other and held tightly for quite some time.

Becky said, "Jaiden, Peyton, we are so proud of our `son' and his mate. We love you to the moon and back."

Jaiden somehow managed to say, "Becky, thank you, we love you and the ladies to the moon and back as well."

As we got up and got ready to leave and head home. Tony yelled, "not so quick guys, we all have something for you." All four of us received a beautiful red Cashmere sweater embroidered in green with "Tony's Pizzeria, Brevard, N.C. Then Tony gave each of us a lifetime pass for a free all meat pizza and a drink anytime we came back to visit Brevard.

The guys tried to say thank you, but neither of us boys could say a word. Tony's pulled us into one last huddle-hug and said, "I know what you are trying to say, and you are more than welcome."

Then everyone else came by to say congratulations, don't forget to come back and see us, ok." Only Dale was able to squeak out a "we will, thank you all so much."

The truck was already packed, so Jaiden took me back to the apartment for one last look before we turned in our keys to the RA. He gave me a kiss in the apartment and we went and climbed into our Silverado and headed for Abingdon. We'd see my parents next Saturday. Charley and Dale were driving to Abingdon in Jaiden's car.

We got on the highway fairly quickly, and, like before, we took mountain backroads home. In the middle of nowhere, Jaiden put his head in my lap, smiled, looked up and said, "your turn."

I felt him tugging at my zipper and then unbuttoning my pants, and he went for his target. I have to say, it was the most exciting, most intense BJ he had ever given to me. When it was over, he took out a wet rag, to my surprise, and began cleaning me up before fastening my pants and zipping them up.

We all got to Jaiden's mom's house and unloaded the truck.

There was two large bedrooms and two huge tiled, open bathrooms with equally huge soaking jacuzzies in the basement apartment.

Jaiden showed Charley and Dale to their room and then came back to the commons area. A moment later, Dale and Charley joined us and exclaimed, "Dudes, you won't believe the note Jaiden's mom left for us in the bedroom and what was in the night stand." Jaiden replied, "Let me guess. There was a large tube of very expensive warming lube and a large box of condoms made specifically for gay men."

Dale asked, "how the hell did you know that?" Jaiden looked at me and said, "told ya."

"Dale," Jaiden said, "She left the same thing for Peyton and I the first time he came home with me to meet her. We were totally blown away." "Charley said, "you have got to be kidding us."

"Nope Charley, I am not. Before you go to sleep tonight, enjoy the `supplies' Mom left for you and then take a relaxing, warm jacuzzi soak together before trying to go to sleep. And for Pete's sake, when we get up for breakfast in the morning, she will expect you to have a monstrous grin on your faces." "Dale looked at Jaiden and I and said, "damn."

We were all extremely tired, when Jaiden looked over at me and said, "speaking of enjoyment and a warm jacuzzi soak." He took my hand and led me into the bedroom. Before he shut the door, he turned around and said, "Guys!" With that, Dale grabbed Charley's hand and they ran into their bedroom."

After Jaiden closed our door, fireworks began to explode on both sides of the basement apartment. If it could be imagined and done, we let our imaginations fly and did it all.

When Jaiden and I had spent all our energy, he got up without saying anything, went in our bathroom and drew a warm bath in the jacuzzi.

He returned to the bed and gently and lovingly picked me up, carried me into the bathroom and with all the love he had for me he placed me into the warm bath and climbed in behind me. He kissed me on the neck and whispered in my ear, "Peyton, close your eyes, lean back against me and relax. I did as he instructed and he started giving me a slow, sensual massage. Nothing sexual, just the slow, sensual massage. By the time Jaiden had finished the massage, I had literally melted.

Jaiden got out of the bath and dried off. "Peyton, stand up slowly." I obeyed and Jaiden started to slowly and lovingly patted me dry. When he had done that, he picked me up and walked into the bedroom and gently laid me on the bed and went to the other side and crawled into bed with me. I fell asleep snuggled in his arms.

When we awakened for breakfast the next morning, Charley came out of his and Dale's bedroom and said, "Man, I have never had a night like last night."

"Dale is still sleeping so I thought I would let him sleep a while longer and then get him up for breakfast. We've never been so tired after a marathon sexcapade." Jaiden and I busted out laughing. "Dale, it was the same for us," Jaiden told him. By the way, welcome to our home."

Charley woke Dale up about 15 minutes and we all got dressed and went up for breakfast.
