Charley was still tipped over about Jaiden topping him in their rhyme game as he said, "Damn!"

"Son, you're still pretty good at that." "Thanks, Mom; I try hard when it comes to out-rhyming Charley." "I noticed, and it irritates the snot out of him, doesn't it?" "It does; isn't it fun to watch." "Yes. He's funny when he sees there is no way for him to win."

The children slept well through the night, and when they awoke, they were hungry; but the sight of the deer and the two baby raccoons on the porch intrigued them to no end.

"Look, Daddy, deuh, deuh!" "Aren't they pretty deer, guys?" "Uh-hu, pwety."

"Would y'all like to get dressed and go see Uncle Leon at his college and eat breakfast there?" "Yeah, Daddy; we go see Unka Le an get some bwekfus." "Yes, we will; now, let's get dressed so we can get in the van and drive to the college." The children started putting on their clothes and surprised Dr. Mom with what they could do at their age.

It was very cool outside this morning, so the children wore their Ford jumpsuits since Ford was nice enough to send each child an insulated outfit.

When they got to Wellstone, the petite jumpsuits drew much attention. Peyton took out his phone and called Melanie at the counseling center. She said she'd meet them at the main cafeteria for breakfast. Peyton didn't tell her they had the children with them. He also called his aunt and uncle, and they were meeting everybody for breakfast as well.

Peyton's uncle called the University President and let him know they were in town and about to have breakfast at the main cafeteria. So, he said he, too, would join them for breakfast and surprise the young men. Little did he know that he would be the one to be surprised!

The dads got the children into the cafeteria and luckily found enough children's chairs for all of them. With the children seated, Jaiden, Dale, and Charley went through the line at the buffet and started preparing plates for their babies. A cafeteria worker had seen the children and brought each of the dads a cart so they could fix all the children's plates and take them to their table simultaneously.

As they were headed back to the table with the food, they heard a shriek, looked up, and noticed Peyton's Aunt Janet, and Uncle Reggie, had come into the cafeteria and seen the children - and Dr. Mom. They were all doting over the children who were loving the attention.

As Dale, Charley, and Jaiden got to the table with the food, Dale said, "Foods here," and asked, "are you guys hungry?"

When Dale posed the question to the children, Nathan Robert, and Charles Logan, the loudest and least shy of all the children, let out a blood-curdling "FOOOOOOOOD" that made everyone in the cafeteria turn, look, and laugh. Then, as everyone was laughing, the University President walked in, and the place got so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.

The President took one look at the children and loudly exclaimed, "WOW! LOOK WHO WE HAVE HERE!"

He then turned to everyone in the cafeteria and asked, "May I have everyone's attention for one of my long, drawn-out, boring announcements?" Everyone died laughing when one of the students yelled, "NO!"

The President looked over the students and said, whoever said that, stand up." A student sheepishly stood, and the President said, "Young man, who are you?" to which the young man replied, "Tyler Barone."

"Mr. Barone, you just made the list of my all-time favorite students. Congratulations!

Now that I have everyone's attention, you have all heard of two students that started many things on this campus. You all know we had to institute a lottery for their old campus apartment because so many students want to live in their old room."

"Those former students are here today with their ten children, so please allow me to introduce them to you: Drs. Jaiden and Peyton Riley-Reynolds and Messiers Dale and Charley Leonard-Anderson."

Suddenly, everyone heard a chair slam down on the floor and heard the student who had said no to the President yell, "Dr. Jaiden, Dr. Peyton," as they saw him run to Jaiden and Peyton. When he reached them, all three had tears streaming from their eyes.

"Tyler, when did you get to Wellstone?" Dr. Jaiden, I got here at the beginning of the semester. I'm on the early college entry program. Wait until Mom and Dad hear I saw y'all today! They're going to be as excited as I am!"

"Tyler, we're so happy to see you here. Why'd you choose Wellstone University?"

"Dr. Peyton, that's simple, and you should know the answer without having to ask me that question: it's your and Dr. Jaiden's Alma Matre; after all you two did to help me, where else would I attend college!"

Tyler's statement got to Jaiden and Peyton, who hugged Tyler, and gave him the obligatory Riley family kiss on the forehead as a tear rolled across their faces. After that, everybody in the cafeteria was standing and applauding the presence of Charley, Dale, Peyton, and Jaiden.

The children inhaled their breakfast, looked at their dads, and said, "more daddy, pweeze!"

Dr. Jefferson, Wellstone's President, got a big laugh over the children asking for more food.

Suddenly, an announcement came over the intercom stating, "Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention."

"In honor of your freshman classmate, Mr. Tyler Barone, and his courage in telling President Jefferson no when the President asked if he could make an announcement in the main cafeteria, and in honor of the surprise visits of Wellstone University's most famous alumni, Drs. Jaiden, and Peyton Riley-Reynolds and Messiers Dale and Charley Leonard-Anderson. If you see your classmate, tell him thank you; and if you see our esteemed guests, please wave and welcome them and their children to our campus."

When the announcement was over, everybody in the cafeteria was banging their fists on their tables and chanting, "Tyler, Tyler, Tyler, Tyler!" Peyton's and Jaiden's most recent patient in Erie was now famous on the campus of Wellstone University.

As the dads and their children left the cafeteria and went outside, they noticed a crowd assembling around their old dorm. So, they headed that way and suddenly heard loud applause in their honor.

"Hello, folks! I'm Dr. Peyton Riley-Reynolds, and this is my husband, Dr. Jaiden Riley-Reynolds. These little ones are our sons: Nathan Robert, Elijah James, Abraham Dovid, Jason Scott, and Mark Anthony."

"I'm Charley Leonard-Anderson, and this is my husband, Dale Leonard-Anderson. The most beautiful little girl in the world is our daughter, Alaina Noelle. Our sons and Alaina's brothers are Charles Logan, Benjamin Dale, David Alexander, and Jason Alexander. It's nice to meet y'all."

"Dr. Peyton, how did you and Dr. Jaiden meet?" "I saw him walking across campus and thought he was so handsome and that it would be awesome if he could be my roommate. When I walked into my dorm apartment, one of the rooms was already taken, so I went to the other side of the apartment, and there he stood. My mind went wild - and apparently, his did too, because we have been together ten years. We have been married for six of those years."

"Dr. Jaiden, how'd you know Dr. Peyton was the one for you?" "Guys, it was the way my heart felt; it was a feeling I never had before but have had every night since." "How did you get Dr. Peyton's attention?"

"Peyton?" "Go ahead, Jaiden, I think it's kind of funny, and it'll make your mom blush."

"Guys, notice how Dr. Peyton and I think in tandem; we're all about being respectful to each other and having a LOT of fun. So, how did I get his attention?"

"He had taken a shower and gone to bed in his underwear: nice, white, new, tight, form-fitting briefs! Sorry, let me get back to reality. He was lying on his bed in the dark, and a little light was coming into the room through the blinds, so I could see him well. I had just gotten out of the shower and wanted to know if Dr. Peyton was gay, so I took a chance and lay naked on my bed. When I did that, the fish bit my hook and took off his briefs as well. We laid on our sides trying to appear asleep, but we were eying each other with intense interest; the rest is history."

"Y'all weren't scared to lay on your beds with nothing on?" "No, we were horrified that we'd scare each other away."

"What about you and Mr. Charley, Mr. Dale?" "We met at home in Florida and were a couple when we got to Wellstone."

"We were having a horrible argument when we met Dr. Jaiden. All the things they say we got done on campus were because of that argument and because of the way Dr. Jaiden loves and cares about people. We have always lived together in one home since that day, and all ten children live in that loving home with us."

"Do y'all have any siblings who went to college here?" Jaiden turned and said, "Peyton."

Peyton replied to the student's question by saying, "No, we didn't have any siblings who attended Wellstone. I have a sister, Jenny, who attended the University of Alabama. That is where she met her husband, Ron, who is a Reform Jewish Rabbi in Oregon. After Dr. Jaiden and I left Wellstone, three young men became my brothers when my parents adopted them. My brother Richard is a doctor specializing in Pediatrics with a specialty in diagnosing childhood cancer; Seth attends the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine and will specialize in treating injured marine animals on the west coast."

"My brother Leon is a student here at Wellstone getting his degree in Psychology."

"After he gets his doctorate at Penn State University, he'll help children and their families better cope with debilitating illnesses the children suffer with.

"Do you see that student running toward us from the Science's building? He is our nephew, Jeremy."

"Wow, you guys have a lot of family at Wellstone." "I wouldn't say a lot, but a few of us got or are getting a degree here. Do any of you know the Dean of Men and the Director of Housing?"

"We all do; we don't have any choice. We had to attend a meeting with them when we got here." "Guys, the Dean of Men is my uncle, and the Director of Housing is my aunt, so you know more of my family than you realized."

"We hate to run, but we're gonna see our old apartment where Jeremy lives, and then we have to head up the mountain."

"Dr. Peyton, may I ask one more question?" "Just one, OK?" "The gorgeous lady standing by the tree who walked up with y'all; who is she?"

Dr. Mom heard the question and started laughing and clapping her hands when Jaiden spoke up and said, "You mean that beautiful young lady with the long black hair wearing that red pantsuit?" "Yes, sir; who is she?" "That beautiful young lady is my mom, Dr. Peggy Reynolds."

What really got Dr. Mom doubled over laughing was when the same student said, "Damn, doc; if my mother looked like that, I wouldn't need a curfew, I'd be home all night, every night!" That got the guys laughing with Dr. Mom. The funny thing was that they agreed with the student.

After touring their old apartment, everybody headed over to the psychology building to see Leon before taking the children to the zoo in Ashville.

They were quiet as they waited for Leon's class to end. Then, since the class lecture was on children, Jaiden quietly opened the door and let the children go inside – it was also to prank Peyton's and his old psychology professor.

As soon as the children walked into the classroom, they spotted Leon and yelled, "Unka Le." The professor looked a bit irked at the interruption. But, when he saw Jaiden, Peyton, Dale, and Charley, he broke into a grin and said, "Damn, guys, it's so awesome to see the four of you; how are y'all?" "Awesome, doc!"

"Excuse me for a moment. Can anybody in the classroom tell me who these children belong to?" Jaiden started laughing and said, "Doc, five of the boys are Peyton's and my children. The other four boys and the beautiful little girl belong to Charley and Dale."

"You're shittin' me!" "Doc! Remember; the children are in the room." "Oh, yeah; sorry. When did these children arrive?" "All ten were born on the same day, and on June sixth, they'll be three years old." "Born on the same day?" "Yes, sir, the same day, and we all had the same doctor – and the babies are our biological children."

"Pontificated Bovine Fecal Matter!"

"Really, Doc; Peyton's sister was my surrogate, her sister-in-law was Peyton's surrogate, and two of her friends in her synagogue in Oregon were surrogates for Charley and Dale." "Unreal, guys!"

"Class, the next chapter in the book is about this very situation. Read the chapter tonight, and we'll discuss it tomorrow. Class is dismissed early. Thanks to these alumni, the President has given you the rest of the day off; study hard."

"Mr. Riley-Andrews, why did all the children run to you?" "Doc, focus on my last name." "You're Peyton's brother?" "Yes, sir, I am." "Well, I'll be. Can you tell the class a little about the children tomorrow?" "Be glad to, Doc."

"Peyton, I appreciate y'all getting us out of class early; everybody had gotten bored out of their minds today." "Leon, we all had days like that with Doc; he can be as dry as dust at times, but he knows his stuff." "That's true, Peyton, and he has helped me a lot." "You'll probably get a lot more help after today."

"Since you have the rest of the day off, we're taking the kids to the zoo in Ashville; would you like to drive up with us?" "Sure, my homework isn't too heavy tonight. Do you think your mom would like to ride with me so she will have more room and be more comfortable?" "Leon, if you ask her, she'll probably kiss you!" Leon did, and Dr. Mom did.

The children had a blast at the zoo, and Dr. Mom took at least a hundred pictures. Then when Jaiden realized the zoo was only about twenty-five miles from his mom's office, they decided to take the children to see Becky and the ladies in the office."

They quietly went in the back door and snuck up to the front office when they got to the clinic. Amazingly, the babies didn't make a sound as they followed their grandma. When Dr. Mom walked into the front office with the grandchildren, the ladies went crazy getting up to see the babies.

Laurie had tears in her eyes. She had seen the guys only once since moving to Abingdon and getting remarried; she had never gotten to meet the children.

After an hour at Dr. Mom's office, they went to her house so Leon could see it and know how to get there and so the children could use the bathroom and take a nap.

While the children slept in their dad's old bedrooms, the adults sat on the deck out back and drank some coffee Dale made.

They were outside for all of thirty minutes when Jaiden jumped up and said, "everybody, get inside quickly." When they got into the basement den, Leon asked Jaiden why they had to quickly go inside. Jaiden looked at Leon and said, "Look out the French doors, Leon." Two large brown bears were walking into the backyard.

"Mom, is the protection still in the same place?" "It is." Jaiden got a long pack of firecrackers, lit them, and threw them into the backyard. When they started exploding, the bears ran back into the woods, and Jaiden said, "OK, let's go back outside and finish our coffee."

"Leon, now you know why I told you and Peter to get a .45 caliber pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, ammo, and a box of firecrackers." "I do, and I guarantee you we'll have them by tomorrow, and you can go with us to help us pick them out. The arms dealer has an indoor range for everything he sells, so we can learn how to safely use the firearms."

"I'm glad you used the term firearms, Leon; weapons are for use by the police and the army when at war. Firearms are what citizens use to protect their homes and to hunt with." "Peter taught me that much about guns, Jaiden. Wait until I tell him about the bears."

Since Peter was on a twelve-hour shift and wouldn't get off until midnight, Dr. Mom treated the guys to dinner at the country club before returning to Brevard.

Jaiden forgot what night it was, so he was ecstatic when they got to the club and saw they had the prime rib and grilled asparagus on the menu. The children had never tried steak. Since the prime rib was so tender, they ordered enough for the children, finely cut it up, and gave them some diced asparagus and baked potato with butter and a little sour cream.

Dr. Mom looked at Jaiden and said, "There is no doubt in my mind about your and Peyton's boys being yours, Nathan Robert and Jason Alexander inhaled the asparagus, and Charles Logan inhaled the steak as his grandaddy would." "Mom, if you look at their plates, the children inhaled everything."

"Yes, they did, Jaiden. I'm glad you and Peyton take them to the potty, and I don't have to." "Why is that, Mom?" Wait until what they ate comes out, then you'll understand." "It can't be as bad as chicken livers." "True, son."

When the babies awoke, the bears came back into the rear yard, so Jaiden slightly opened the blinds and let the children see them. But he kept saying, "bears are fun to look at, but they will hurt you. Bears are very mean and bad." "Bears bad, Daddy. Bears make you cry." "Yes, they do, Jason; bears are terrible and mean."

"That OK, Daddy, Daddy Peyton beat his butt." Jaiden was having to stifle a laugh, something he suddenly found hard to do. "Nathan, Daddy Peyton is a tough Daddy, but I don't think he wants to fight two bears."

Jaiden didn't want the bears to see the children because he feared they would try to crash through the glass doors to get at his babies. So, he closed the blinds in the bedroom, drew the curtains in the den, and then took the children upstairs.

When they got to the den, Jaiden's mom had laid out some books she'd bought for her grandbabies. The children spied the books, and each child grabbed one and sat down to read it.

Jaiden told the children the books would stay at Grandma's when they went back to Uncle Leon's and Uncle Peter's home, but his mother said, "Oh, no, those books go home with the children. I'll get some more for them to read here when they come back." Jaiden laughed and said, "hey, guys, didn't I tell you Grandma was the big boss." Without batting an eye, they all said, "uh-huh," without taking their eyes off their books.

Their dads got them into the van, Leon and Dr. Mom got in his car, and everybody headed back to Brevard. They made the trip in an hour and a half, which surprised Jaiden.

They went inside, and the dads got the babies ready for bed. "Hey guys, would you like to watch some nighttime television before you go to bed?" Jaiden's mom asked what nighttime tv was, and Jaiden told her it was a way to get the children to sleep more quickly.

Fifteen minutes after he cut the lights off in the den and turned down the sound on the television, the children started to nod off. The dads picked up their children, took them to the basement, and put them on their mats and pillows.

"Jaiden, I have to hand it to you. That was a brilliant way to get the children to bed without them getting fussy. All I did with you was tell you it was bedtime, and you took off for your room. But, of course, getting you to take a bath was a different matter when you were a toddler."

"Mom, Jaiden still doesn't like to stop what he is doing and take a bath at the end of the day. However, I have a way to get him to the shower." "And what is that, Peyton?" "I take a sock off and drop it in front of the couch. Then I start taking off my shirt and drop it at the stairs as I walk up them. When I get to the top of the stairs, I toss my pants down the stairs. At that point, Jaiden is as excited as Pavlov's dogs and comes running for the bedroom."

"When he enters the bedroom, I lock the door and push him into the shower - clothes and all if he doesn't get undressed for a bath."

"Peyton, you know darn well that doesn't happen!" "Maybe not, Jaiden, but it sure does excite me to think about doing it." "Really?" "Yep, really." "Wanna try it when we get home, Peyton?" "I'm game if you're game, handsome."

Jaiden's mom said, "Oh, the spice of life when you are young...even if that is terribly TMI."

"Mom, I like to keep things interesting. I don't worry about Peyton being sexy; he is always S-E-X-Y!" "Jaiden, you may be in your late twenties, and I have never swatted you with a belt, but you've got me thinking about doing that." "Awe, Mom, you're so cute when you get irritated!" "Keep it up, son, keep it up!" Everybody started laughing when Dr. Mom said that.

"I don't know about y'all, but I'm going downstairs and sit on the porch with Peyton. If you want to join us, come on down."

Dr. Mom said she would turn in, but Dale and Charley went downstairs with Jaiden.

As they sat on the porch and listened to the nighttime sounds of the mountains, Charley said, "Guys, sitting together like this is one of my favorite things to do. Sometimes, I picture the four of us sitting on the porch of a house in the mountains of Pennsylvania wishing the children were still at home instead of away at college."

Peyton replied, "Charley, I think we have all done that at one time or another. The four of us are too close as family to think about doing anything else." "Peyton, you said a mouthful. I hope we have a long life together with Dale and Charley and that we can enjoy something like this when we all retire."

"Dale, have you talked with your dad lately about how your stock account has grown?" "Not really, Jaiden; I've kind of looked at that as your money since you started it."

"Dale, that was set up for you and Charley in case y'all ever decided you wanted your own space or had to move with your jobs." "That isn't going to happen, Jaiden. We'll go into business for ourselves before we see our family divided by a job." "Peyton and I love you two also, Dale."

"But, really, have you talked to your dad about your stock account?" "I told you no and why."

"Well, you and Charley have 2.5 million dollars in that stock account, and part of that was started by your shares of the Nobel award, so it is YOUR money, not mine nor Peyton's. And there was also a good bit of money we all got from the school donations sent to all of us."

"Those monies were sent to you, Jaiden, not us." "That may be who the donations were addressed to on the envelopes, but you and Dale helped get that money started. So, as I said, Peyton and I share half, and you and Dale share the other half, and that ain't gonna change. Dale, ask your dad what I told him when I worked with him to set up the stock accounts."

"What did you tell Dad, Jaiden?" "Ask him, Dale."

Charley thought for a while before he said, "you're serious about that, aren't you, Jaiden?" "I've never been more serious about anything shared between us, Charley. And as for the children leaving for college someday, they each have a million-dollar college trust fund Tony set up for them." "I completely forgot about that, Jaiden."

"If the children weren't laying on their mats asleep, I'd suggest we go for a long walk. This is such a beautiful night, and I feel so at home and comfortable here." "Maybe we need to think about returning to this area when we retire, if not before, Jaiden."

"We need to keep our commitment to St. Jude's until we retire, and then I think you hit the nail on the head, Peyton. I dearly loved being here, and right now, I'm so homesick for this area it is unreal." Charley said, "Jaiden, I think we all feel that way. I don't know what it is, but something is drawing us back to this area."

"Do you know what would be fun to me, Peyton?" "What, Babe?" "Retiring, moving back to this area, building a house just like this one next door on that vacant property." "But what if my parents move to Erie?" "Peyton, by the time we retire, I seriously doubt our parents will still be around." "Perish that thought, Jaiden." "Yeah."

"Jaiden, there is a serious flaw in your plan." "How so, Charley?" "We have ten children between the four of us. If each of those children marries and has five children, that would mean twenty adults and fifty children coming to visit. This house isn't big enough for seventy-four people!"

"You are correct, Charley. That's why I intend to purchase all twenty-five acres next door. The four of us can share a house just like this one, and we can build a camp for our children and their families. Just think: a prominent barn-like structure with steel beams, cement walls, and a cement roof like the houses in Colorado have. The top will be heated, so the snow melts off instead of accumulating."

"Even the floors will be heated with hot water flowing through pipes installed in all the bases. Fireplaces galore and propane heating to supplement when necessary."

"You've been thinking about this for a while, haven't you, Jaiden?"

"I only started thinking about it tonight, Dale."

"The children love it here; your, Charley's, and Peyton's eyes glisten when you look around these mountains, and all I see in each of your faces is a happiness that I don't notice in either of you when we are in the mountains of Pennsylvania."

"Wow, you really do take in everything just like your mother has said you do." "I don't know about that, Charley; I just want us to be as happy as we can be. I had enough unhappy times before Peyton, you, and Dale came into my life. I don't ever again want to feel that way; I refuse to feel that way again!"

"OK, Jaiden, tell you what: you check into buying the land, and we'll buy it together. Then, Dale and I will draw up the plans for the house and camp, and we can tweak them to get them just the way we want them before the time comes to start the building process." "I would like that, Charley; thank you."

Dale spoke up and said, "Jaiden, one of the things you have always said, and stressed, is that we are a family, and that a family supports its members. I don't think I fully understood precisely what you meant by saying that until tonight, as I looked into your eyes when you shared your dreams with us."

"Dale, you have no idea how intensely I love you and Charley; I don't know if even I fully understand the depth of that love."

"My love for Peyton and our children far exceeds the love I have for the six of you, but my love for the two of you and your children...I don't know if it is possible to describe how intense, how strong, that love is."

Jaiden stood up, walked to the edge of the porch, leaned on a support beam, put his face in his hands, and lost it. Charley, Dale, and Peyton walked to Jaiden and wrapped their arms around him.

"Jaiden, Dale, I, and the children love you just as much as you love us, and no matter what happens, we always will, and you better not forget that."

Jaiden's mom was sitting on the steps leading into the basement, observing her boys. Somehow, she knew what was occurring between the four of them. It is a strange and unexplainable thing called love!
