G. A. Patrick

Jaiden was still stressed after his interaction with the `ministers', so Peyton, Dale, and Charley got Jaiden up early and went for a 5-mile run. When they got home, everybody showered and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

Jaiden asked Dale to cook some grits, country ham, make some coffee gravy, and cook some Mrs. B's homemade style biscuits. Dale started the grits and told Jaiden to get a frying pan out and cook the ham on medium heat until it was lightly browned on both sides. When Jaiden had done that, Dale told him to add a tad of vegetable oil and let the pan cool a little, and then add one cup of black coffee.

When Jaiden had done what Dale had instructed, Dale looked at him and said, "congratulations, Jaiden, you just made your first bowl of coffee gravy. Now that you know how to do that, when I am not around you can make it and Peyton can enjoy it."

"All I have done to cook the grits is start the water. Follow the directions on the bag for the right amount of water and dry grits. I have five and one-third cups of water boiling, so how much grits do we need to measure out for the water?"

"Let's see, when the water starts boiling, we need one and one-third cups of grits." "Correct, Jaiden. How much salt?" "one-half teaspoon, Dale?" "You got it, Jaiden."

"Jaiden, do you notice that the liquid in the pot is white?" "Yes." What I did is use one-half the water called for in the directions and added Half & Half to replace the water I omitted. That will make the grits creamy. One last step after the grits get to the proper consistency: add one-half stick of real butter. Your body can digest butter much better than margarine and it tastes better."

"Now, keep stirring the grits until they thicken and the grits are soft when you taste them with a small spoon. Be careful to let them cool on the spoon before tasting them or you will wind up with a bad case of glossodynia."

"OK, Dale, what is glossodynia?" "Jaiden, it is burned tongue syndrome and it is painful. If it is bad enough, an ENT Doc will need to treat it. In our case, your Mom can help us. A bit of a light pain killer and cool food for a while is the only cure. And, if you get it, you can't drink your beloved coffee for a week or two!"

"I think I will be careful tasting the grits." "Jaiden, make sure they thicken fairly well before you taste them and be sure you keep stirring them while they are cooking. Burned grits don't taste good."

"Dale, I think they are done. I checked them and they are soft to the bite, but I want you to check them."

Dale went to the stove and used the small spoon Jaiden had used to taste the grits. "Jaiden, cut off the eye on the stove, put the pot on a trivet on the counter, then stir in the butter until it is fully melted."

When Dale tasted the grits with the butter, he looked at Jaiden and said, "high-five, bro, you have arrived! You can now cook grits just as good as any southerner, and your coffee gravy tastes awesome."

Dale went to get Charley and Peyton to come back down for breakfast. They sat at the breakfast table and served themselves the puffed eggs, grits, and a slice of the ham. Peyton and Charley put the coffee gravy on their grits, they told Dale he had done it again.

Dale looked at the guys and told them he hadn't done a thing because Jaiden cooked the grits, the ham, and the fluffed eggs. Peyton looked at Dale and said, "Don't feed me that lie, I know your cooking!"

Jaiden looked at Peyton and said, "actually love, I did cook everything. Dale stood by and watched as I did it and made sure I did everything right." "Jaiden, the grits are supreme and the coffee gravy is perfect, welcome to the Southern way of cooking great food!" Jaiden laughed at Peyton's comment.

At that point, Charley's Dad came in and sat down to eat breakfast. When he tasted the grits with the coffee gravy, he congratulated Dale on an excellent breakfast. "Dad, I didn't cook anything this morning, Jaiden cooked everything as I watched him to make sure he cooked everything correctly."

"The hell you say!" Jaiden spoke up and said, "Dad, I did cook everything for breakfast this morning." "Damn, son, welcome to the south, you have arrived. Lindsey would have a hard time competing with this and she is an awesome cook."

"Thanks, Dad. I am trying to learn." Peyton muttered, "thank goodness!" Everybody laughed heartily at Peyton's comment. With five children, Jaiden and Peyton would have to help each other in the kitchen with no slacking off.

Monday morning, medical and engineering school would resume, so the guys decided to go pick up some supplies they would need for the second half of the semester. They didn't take the Navigators because they didn't want them to get scratched up in the parking lot. Besides, Dale truly loves driving the Subaru. It drives and rides well and he looks good in it and he knows it.

When Jaiden and Peyton got to LEXCOM, they ran into Andy. He congratulated Jaiden over what he had done during the summer and said he was looking forward to the last half of the semester. He told Jaiden and Peyton that things would be much less stressful and that they should be more relaxed with the pace.

Jaiden and Peyton told Doc they were glad to hear that because the construction on the house was interrupting their study routines. Andy asked what they were doing to the house and Jaiden told him that between him, Peyton, Dale, and Charley, they would have ten babies in the house around March first, so they were adding two large nurseries and two more bedrooms downstairs.

Andy started laughing and looked at Jaiden and Peyton and said, "Son, don't you two know what a condom is for?" Andy knew the story, but he still had to rib the two young men. They all laughed and Peyton said it was Jaiden's fault and that he was having morning sickness every day and hugging the golden throne every morning.

Andy laughed and told Peyton to be careful saying that because a lot of men get morning sickness at the same time the mothers of their children get it. Jaiden laughed when Andy said that because Peyton turned a bit green and headed for the bathroom. Jaiden and Andy about rolled on the floor laughing.

Jaiden suddenly got a wide-eyed look on his face as he, too, turned a bit green and headed for the john. Andy was howling now!

When Jaiden came back, he told Peyton that the breakfast wasn't nearly as good coming up as it was going down. Peyton smiled. He knew exactly what Jaiden was saying.

When class started and the professorial assistant had taken roll, Andy stood at the front of the class and said he needed four men to volunteer for a special project and Peyton and Jaiden couldn't volunteer. Four guys in the back raised their hands and volunteered for the task (they knew ahead of time what Andy was going to ask).

Andy looked at them and said, "Guys, I need you to get with Jaiden and Peyton and to please explain to them what condoms are for and how to use them." "Then he turned and said rather loudly, "Five babies on the way, damn!

Everybody howled when Andy said that. When Andy turned back around, he said, "Seriously, congratulations Jaiden and Peyton, knowing you two as we all do, there is no doubt in our minds that you are going to have truly amazing children. If we can help you two in any way when the time gets here, all you have to do is let us know. I hope you realize that.

Thanks, Doc, we may have to do that to get some sleep!"

As everybody was leaving the room at the end of class, they all handed Jaiden and Peyton a slip of paper with their telephone numbers written down. Peyton and Jaiden were amazed at the generosity of their classmates. You know what happened, their eyes turned crimson red and the floods descended. They were in total disbelief at the showing of love they had received.

That afternoon, Andy called Jim and said, "you will not believe what I am sitting here looking at. Would you believe your son's classmates got together and made up a schedule for everyone to chip in every night to help with the babies after they arrive, all ten of them? My eyes have been tearing all day."

"Andy, that is unbelievable. I don't think any of our classmates would have done that." "Neither do I, Jim. That tells me that Jaiden's and Peyton's classmates not only love them unreservedly, they truly respect our boys. It's just so unbelievably loving to me. God has His hands in everything going on, He has too!"

"I agree, Andy." "When are you going to talk to the boys about this development?" "I thought I would go by their home after dinner and sit on the deck with them, after Dale makes me a cup of that awesome coffee he is famous for, and show them the schedule."

"Andy, I can't say this around Phyllis, but I am craving a cup of his coffee and you rub it in that you are going to have a cup tonight. Damn!"

Andy started laughing and told Jim he said he'd get him back for that college prank he had pulled. Touché bro!" Both men were now laughing.

When Andy got to Peyton's and Jaiden's home, they were extremely surprised to see him. Jaiden answered the door and invited him in.

Andy asked if that was Dale's famous coffee he was smelling and Jaiden said it was. Andy said good, let's all get a cup and go to the deck, I need to talk to all four of you about a development you know nothing about. Jaiden looked at Andy with a look of worry. What had happened that Andy would be coming by the house to tell them rather than mentioning it at LECOM?

When all the guys had their coffee and sat on the deck, Andy passed to each of them large manila envelopes and told them to look at what was inside them and to think about it for a minute before saying anything.

When the guys read what was inside the envelopes, they each had tears falling from their eyes. Peyton looked at Andy and asked, "The guys in the class got together on their own and decided to do this?" "Yes, Peyton, they did." Jaiden had walked to the deck railing to try and hide some of his emotions and Peyton decided to join him.

"Babe, mind if I join you?" Jaiden put his arm around Peyton's shoulders and pulled him in close. Dale and Charley were sitting at the table speechless thinking: why would people who didn't know them outside of school respect and love them so much? Jaiden and Peyton were so stunned they couldn't say anything.

Andy watched the four boys with tears in his eyes. He had never seen anything like this happen to four more deserving individuals, much less happen at all. Surreal is the only way to describe what the class has offered to do.

It should be a shining example to people that things like this happen when you truly love people, genuinely want to help people, and when you don't shy away when they have problems big or small. Jaiden, Peyton, Dale, and Charley have earned the esteem of all good men simply by following the tenants of their faith and sharing everything they have with those in need. Because they have done this, Hashem has blessed them beyond belief.

While they were on the deck, Rabbi Rob walked over and spoke to everybody. He noticed that the guys all seemed somewhat upset, so he asked what was up. Andy handed him a copy of the schedule the class had made up and talked about what they wanted to do for the four amigos.

Rabbi Rob got a look in his eyes and on his face that made him seem to be a million miles away. It took a few minutes for him to compose himself before he could say anything. When he did speak, all he could say was "UNBELIEVABLE!!!"

The Rabbi checked on each of the brothers, hugged each of them, and told them if they needed him to call. He did not care what time it was, just call. They simply nodded their heads.

So much love; so much friendship; so much acceptance; so much appreciation; and so much family and they didn't have to give anything of themselves to receive any of it. It truly was and is unbelievable like the Rabbi said.

In class the next morning, Doc asked all the students to gather in the lecture hall after their classes were over. Their offer would be presented to Jaiden and Peyton and the offer would be discussed in detail. It would also be Peyton's and Jaiden's time to say thank you to their classmates for their love and generosity.

When Dad Jacobs came upstairs for breakfast the next morning, Charley handed him a copy of the proposal. When he looked at it, his elbows went onto the table and his head went into his hands as he sat there and sobbed. It took a while before he could calm down and eat the breakfast Jaiden served him. After he finally ate his breakfast, he asked for a few minutes alone on the deck and the amigos obliged him.

Dad Jacobs called his wife, Lindsey, and told her what he had just looked at and mused at how loving the people were in Erie, how the classmates were giving of their time to help their boys at night with the babies.

He started sobbing again when he said to Lindsey, "Honey, I have missed so much because of my attitude. How could I have been so mean, so stupid? If Charley never truly forgives me, I deserve everything he can throw at me."

"Jim, Charley and I have talked about that. You need to sit down and talk to him. He has more than forgiven you and you need to know and experience that from him. Your son loves you very much, but you are both too stubborn or too scared to talk to each other to let go of the hurt. Charley already has, sweetheart, it is your turn now." Dad Jacobs sat in one of the deck chairs and completely lost his composure.

Charley went out, sat with, and hugged his Dad. He told him everything was, and would continue to be, ok and they would talk when he got home from school. His Dad didn't say anything, he just looked across the horizon like he was a million miles away.

Classes went well at Penn State even though Charley and Dale had a major test in one of their classes. They aced the test and were extremely happy because it was a pivotal exam in that class. The hurdle has been jumped successfully.

Peyton's and Jaiden's class, on the other hand, was seemingly like the British MP, Alan Watts, when he stood before Parliament and commended his fellow members for passing legislation to improve health care for all Brits. They were met with shouts of here, here. The class's reaction was to say that they loved Peyton and Jaiden, that they would have their backs come whatever. The emotional amigos had tear-stained faces at the end of the class.

Everybody in the class went to lunch together in the cafeteria. When Peyton and Jaiden walked in, they saw a huge wrapped box and wondered what was in it and who it was for. When everyone had finished their lunch, LECOM's President came into the cafeteria and called Peyton and Jaiden out to the hallway as a ruse while their classmates got their surprise together.

The President lauded the two for their recent accolades for dressing down two homophobic pastors so well in the restaurant. When he finished saying what he had to say, he walked Peyton and Jaiden back into the cafeteria to shouts of "SURPRISE!" The large package they had wondered about now had a bow on top and a sign that said, "Riley-Reynolds babies." Tears once again filled the amigo's eyes as they went to unwrap the huge box.

As Peyton and Jaiden picked up the wrapped box, they saw a specially made VEER five-seat tandem wagon with five baby car seats that could be removed from their cradle locks in the car and be attached to the wagon. The wheels were large and the wagon could be taken onto any terrain, unlike a stroller. When the car seats were removed from the wagon, it could be nicely folded to fit in the back of the car.

That wasn't all, there were bundles upon bundles of Huggies diapers in various sizes for ages birth through age 1. When Jaiden and Peyton saw what their classmates had done for them, they were in such shock they had to sit down. They both put their faces in their hands and wailed.

Their classmates teared up as well as they surrounded the two and did their best to help console Peyton and Jaiden. Today, everybody got a hug and a thank you.

When you looked around the cafeteria, there wasn't a dry eye in the place.

As Jaiden and Peyton got home, Jaiden sat on the couch in the den, covered his face with a pillow, and lost it, and so did Peyton. When Dale and Charley got home, they, too, had been surprised by their classmates with the same gifts their brothers had received and their reactions were the same as Jaiden's and Peyton's.

When the four had calmed down, they surmised that more than their classmates had been involved in bestowing the gifts. They wouldn't question that notion, they would just show their gratitude for what they had received for their children.

They called their parents to tell them what their classmates had done for them and then they called the ladies to let them know. Marty, Angie, Jennifer, and Jenny cried with the guys when they were told of the gifts.

Jenny and Jennifer knew the brand and the cost of the VEER line, and when they told the amigos what they cost, the guys were awestruck. The units they received were specially made and cost well over 3K each.

When the guys wrote thank you notes for their gifts, they sent one to the newspaper so the other benefactors would know of their appreciation. As it turned out, the other benefactors were the members of the two churches the homophobic ministers had pastored until they were voted out by their members after the restaurant incident. That was a development the guys did not know about and were shocked to hear. And there was yet a third benefactor: First United Methodist Church. As a thank you to each, they each received cards inside flower arrangements for each church's Sunday services.

When Dad Jacobs came in from working on the house addition, he could tell his sons had been upset and asked them what had caused them to be so emotional. Jaiden went to his and Peyton's bedroom and rolled the wagon with the car seats attached to the den. Dad Jacob's eyes almost popped out of his head. When Charley told his Dad that they, too, had received the same gift from classmates at Penn State and the churches, he was speechless and sat back on the couch without saying a word.

After dinner, Charley's Dad asked him to take a ride with him to the beach. When they got there, they took off their shoes and walked to the shoreline.

Dad Jacobs took Charley's hand in his, and, as they began to walk the shoreline, Dad Jacob's began to talk to Charley about how sorry he was for making Charley's life so miserable for so long, and how much of Charley's life he had missed because of his attitude. He also said he was sorry it took Jaiden and Peyton to help Charley escape his misery instead of him manning up and being the Dad he should have been.

Charley let his Dad talk for a while to vent his sorrow before he stopped walking, looked at his Dad, and said, "Dad, it's in the past and I let it go a long time ago. We love each other and we now have a relationship and that is all that matters. If you feel you have to make up for anything, it is only to yourself, not to me. The only thing I would ask at this point is to please be in the lives of your grandchildren when they get here."

Dad Jacobs hugged Charley tightly as tears streamed from their eyes. It wasn't the response Charley's Dad had expected. Lindsey was right in what she had said to Chuck. They continued walking down the beach for some distance before they turned and walked back toward the car – still walking hand-in-hand.

When they got back to the house, Ginny had a wonderful dinner waiting for them. When they walked in the door, she looked at them and smiled. Nothing was said, it didn't have to be because Ginny knew everything would be OK between the two and nothing would ever again separate them.

Charley and his Dad went to sit on the deck and the brothers went to sit in the dining room so Charley could have total privacy with his Dad. Ginny looked at her boys and told them they had once again made her proud. They knew what she meant.

While they were sitting on the deck, Charley called his mom to let her know he and his Dad had taken a long walk on the beach and everything was settled once and for all. "Mom, I told Dad that I had let go of the hurt and loneliness a long time ago and that it was time for him to do the same." Lindsey was crying and so was Charley. Nothing else had to be said because they each knew what the other would say. Charley handed his Dad the telephone and walked inside.

Lindsey and Chuck talked for the better part of an hour as they let go of years of worry and concern. Chuck had let go of his anger and disappointments and Lindsey let go of her fear that he never would. It is amazing how much better everybody's lives got after this point and how strong the family bond became. Nothing would ever again separate them.

After dinner, they all took a long walk through the neighborhood. Pete was outside playing pitch with Jason. When they stopped to speak to Pete, Jason ran up to Chuck and said, "Hi, Grandpa, I love you." That was all it took to start the tears flowing again. After sharing a few pleasantries, they continued their walk.

As soon as they got back to the house, Dale made a pot of decaf coffee and they sat on the deck and talked until the amigos broke for their reading time. When they finished reading their assigned chapters for tomorrow's classes, it was late, so they showered and went to bed. No sex tonight, the day has been too emotional and they guys needed to wind down and rest.

When Jaiden and Peyton got to class the next morning, they asked Andy if they could speak briefly to the class. He said they could, so when everybody arrived, they told their classmates how grateful they were for the gifts they had received and that they thanked them from the bottoms of their hearts.

They told their classmates that they had received a lot of verbal abuse from people in the past because of their relationship and that the acceptance and love they felt from the classmates meant more to them than they would ever know. Their classmates were told there was an envelope taped under the top of their desks for each of them to read after class.

As the class ended, Peyton and Jaiden got away more quickly than normal and headed for the cafeteria. Lunch today would be delicious as always.

Their classmates and their professor were back in their room opening the envelopes and reading what was inside them. Each envelope contained a truly heartfelt thank you for the gifts Peyton and Jaiden had received and each thank you note was dotted with stains from their tears. That got to Andy and to most of the classmates, all of whom were speechless.

As Peyton and Jaiden were getting up to leave the cafeteria, every one of their classmates came by and hugged them and told them they were welcome. Not one of their classmates had a dry eye. Peyton and Jaiden walked hand-in-hand to the car without so much as a word said.

When they got home, they went into their room, hung a DND placard on the door, and then closed and locked it. They took the time to prepare themselves for an afternoon of gentle love-making.

When they were ready, the usual steps were followed sans the condom and Jaiden made slow love to Peyton, with slow being the operative word. He made love to Peyton for almost an hour before he climaxed into his hubby.

They lay there for the longest before Jaiden finally fell from Peyton's body and then kissed him very sensually. When they had caught their breath and had relaxed a bit, Peyton looked at Jaiden and said, "Now, it's your turn, sweetheart."

Peyton readied himself and pushed Jaiden onto his back, crawled between his legs, and slowly entered him.

Like Jaiden had done, Peyton took great care to be extremely gentle and to take his time while still giving Jaiden the pleasure he enjoyed. When the river's dam finally opened and Peyton sent the floods through, they laid there for almost an hour before they got up, showered, flushed the evidence, and hit the books to do their assigned readings. Dinner would be the only thing to interrupt their studies tonight.

When they finished their last chapter and reviewed the day's notes, it was getting late so they went to bed and slept soundly until they awoke the next morning.

When they went to breakfast, Ginny had already arrived and was preparing banana-macadamia nut waffles that the boys had not had in ages. While they ate bacon only sparingly, they would have it this morning with OJ and coffee made Dale's way. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast and hugged and kissed Ginny thanking her for the nice surprise breakfast. Even Dad Jacobs hugged her and said thank you.

As her boys left for school and Dad Jacobs headed to the construction zone, Ginny was smiling and singing. Being truly appreciated made her heart feel beyond good.

When the guys got home, news trucks from CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox were in front of the house. Jaiden mused, "what now?" When they exited their car, they saw the news guys getting box after box out of their vans. Jaiden went and opened the front door so he could welcome them inside.

When the news crews entered the house and got all the boxes into the den, there were ten boxes in all. Each box was numbered boy 1 through boy 9 with the fanciest box labeled `little girl'.

The guys noticed there wasn't a camera or microphone in sight and asked their reporter friends what was up with no cameras or other equipment.

The reporters told them they had been more than generous to them and the networks in granting interviews when asked to do so and that they and the networks wanted to do something special for them and then asked the four guys to open the boxes.

Inside each of the boxes was seven outfits per week, from birth through age 2. Hopefully, the outfits would last two years and the babies wouldn't outgrow them too quickly. The little girl's box was the extra special box. That box held some of the most beautiful little outfits that could be bought at the most exclusive store on 5th Avenue in New York City. When the boys looked again, even the clothes for the boys came from the same exclusive store.

"Guys, we don't know what to say. Thank you does not seem to cover these gifts you have so generously gotten for our children. Even so, thank you so much!"

"Jaiden, Peyton, Dale, and Charley, we have never done a story where we have been so warmly welcomed and invited into someone's home. You made us feel like family and we still feel like family, and on that thought, families take care of families."

We have learned to and we do love you four beyond measure, and we always will. We have never met anyone like you four. You reintroduced us to a world we thought didn't exist anymore and you gave us all hope for the future. So, we thank you for that gift."

"We don't want to take up too much of your time. We just wanted you to know we think about you often and we will love you always."

"Guys, we truly don't know what to say. We love you too and we always will and we will never forget what you have done for our children to be."

"Guys, before we forget, the president of each network sent you a letter. Here they are."

When the reporters left the house, the guys opened the letters that had been given to them. The presidents of each network commended the guys on how they handled the homophobic pastors in the restaurant, telling the guys how proud they were of them and thanking them for not getting angry at the story being aired across the country. They also let the guys know that every email they got on that news spot was positive with not one negative comment being received.

The brothers were so overwhelmed at the contents of the letters that they sat in the den without uttering one word for over an hour.

They took pictures of all the clothes and forwarded them to their parents telling them to look at what the news crews from CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox had just delivered and also told them that the clothes came from the most elite store on 5th Avenue in New York City.

A few minutes later their phones rang off the hook with their parents calling. They were in disbelief at what the news crews had done for the babies and said they felt incredulous about there being enough clothes for two years of growth. They were extremely proud for their sons.

Pete and the Rabbis called and questioned the reason for the news vans being at the house. Jaiden said, "You have to come by to see what they brought. It is hard for us to describe."

Pete and the Rabbis were at the house shortly after their phone calls and had their wives with them. When they saw all the clothes, it blew their minds. Rabbi Rob said, "I knew you were blessed for the mitzvahs you have done, but this is unbelievable."

A few minutes after the Rabbis, Pete, and their wives arrived, the doorbell rang. It was UPS with numerous boxes of goods for the brothers.

They signed for the boxes, got them in the house, and opened them while the Rabbis, Pete, and their wives looked on.

Robees had sent multiple sizes of shoes that would last the babies their first two years. The next box was from Momo Baby who had sent the cutest little girl shoes that should also last for the baby girl's first two years.

There were still two more huge boxes to open. The third and fourth boxes they opened were from Pediped and Stride Rite who sent APMA approved shoes for the babies. There were cute little dress shoes and tennis type toddler shoes that were the cutest ever. Two very exciting days and the boys were wondering: what next? Only time would tell.
