"You're not worried about using a rifle in the city limits?" "Not when the judge is sitting on the deck as the bear jumps over the fence. We all fertilized the grass if you know what I mean." "I think I do, son, I think I do. But what about the ladies having the children outside to play?" "It won't be the first time Ginny has killed and dressed out a bear."

"That sweet little lady?"

"She shot one between the eyes at Mom's house when I was my boy's age. Then she skinned him, cut up the meat, and put it in the freezer. As she says, nothing and nobody messes with her children; I wouldn't recommend anybody test her on that." "Since you said it that way, I'll be sure not to step out of line when around Ginny and the children."

"Ginny is an amazing woman I have been blessed to have had in my life – and I know my children are blessed by her presence." "I agree, Jaiden; I love watching Ginny work with the children. The wife and I watch Nanny 911 about the British Nannys, and they pale in comparison to Ginny as far as I'm concerned." "Don, the genuinely marvelous thing is that Granny is just like her. They don't just keep the children; they teach them life skills that amaze us when we see the children using the skills they have been taught by those two ladies." "Your children are incredibly smart, and there is no doubt they are happy. What will you do when they all grow up and want to attend medical school?" "That's easy, Don; I'll go broke and move into a smaller house to meet expenses."

"I guess we need to get back to the office; we're booked solid with appointments all day." "Same here; there is no rest for the weary. Don, if you and the wife are out stretching your legs, stop by the house and we'll have a cup of coffee and shoot the breeze."

Jaiden let the ladies know they were back from lunch and ready to start seeing patients. The first patient Jaiden saw was Tyler Barone, who came to the office with his dad, William. When Jaiden entered the exam room, his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree.

"Geez, Tyler, you have grown up since I was in Memphis; how are you doing?" "Doc, that's what I am here to find out." "Well, you look good; hmm, your heart and lungs sound excellent, your blood pressure was a little high, but that's most likely because you are here." "Yeah, you call it white coat syndrome, don't you?" "That is correct - and it's likely related to the fact that the last time I saw you, a `certain' doctor had given you a hefty dose of penicillin that you were allergic to, and then I had to remove your appendix. Speaking of that, how have you been doing since that surgery?" "Let me show you."

Tyler pulled his phone out of his pocket, pulled up his pictures, and showed Jaiden a picture of a beautiful girl." "And that girl is, Tyler?" "My girlfriend, Dr. Jaiden." "Dayum, son, she's gorgeous; when did you meet her?" "Right after you went to Memphis." "Please tell me you two have behaved and not gotten into trouble." "Trouble? What is that?" "Messing around at your age, Tyler; you're still too young to do that.

"Oh, don't worry about that, Dr. Jaiden; Dad had a long talk with me and taught me how to have fun without getting a girl pregnant. Then, her dad gave me a big box of lubed condoms, showed me how to put one on, and watched to make sure I did it right. Afterward, we went straight to her room and bounced the bed so hard the box springs broke." "Tyler, I am about to have a southern hissy fit; you better tell me that didn't happen." "But it did, Dr. Jaiden, and I have had so much fun and sex since that happened that I can't be sad even if I want to."

Tyler's dad was sitting in a corner behind Jaiden, about to bust a gut to laugh. How he didn't burst out howling is anybody's guess because his face was so red when Jaiden turned around that he thought Bill was about to have a stroke. "Tyler, tell Dr. Jaiden who Sharon's dad is." "Her dad is the pastor at the Nazarene church, Dr. Jaiden; that's what makes everything so unbelievable and fun. Sharon and I can have as much sex as we want, and he doesn't care as long as she doesn't get pregnant!"

"Tyler!" "What, Dad?" "Fess up, son!" "I did, Dad; I told him about all the sex I've had and am having." "Jaiden, I hope you taped the tops of your and Peyton's barn-boots shut so nothing can fall in them because Tyler just shot you a line of pontificated bovine fecal matter so wide and deep that you'd never get your feet out of it if the tops of your boots were open."

"Bill, I was thinking that, but these days, you never know. If you want, I can give Tyler a shot in his butt that will keep him from making zygotes and keep him from having an erection for a month." "Ya know, Jaiden, that might be a safe thing to do; go ahead and give him the shot. Then, if he doesn't have an erection, he can't jack off and get his briefs soaked and his sheets dirty – and his mom will be able to keep her hands away from his ejaculate." "Dad, you know that hasn't happened; you know it hasn't!" "I don't know about that, Tyler; we'll have to talk to your mom about that when we get home." "DAD! I can't talk to Mom about stuff like that." "Son, you said it hasn't happened, so the only way I can make sure it hasn't is for you and me to talk to your mom about it; you know we don't keep secrets."

Tyler was sweating profusely at the thought of having to talk to his mother about him masturbating and getting his semen all over everything. Meanwhile, Jaiden stuck his head out the door and whispered to his nurse to get him a 10 cc syringe filled simple saline solution. She brought it back to the exam room and handed it to Jaiden, who turned, looked at Tyler, and said, "OK, bud, show the top of that butt to your dad so I can give you this shot."

Tyler dropped his pants just enough to see his crack and show the top of the hip muscle. His dad was shaking, trying not to laugh, and Jaiden was being deadpan serious. As the top of Tyler's hip muscle became visible, Jaiden shot the syringe full of water onto his neck and started laughing with Bill.

"DAD! You and Dr. Jaiden punked me!" "Son, don't you think turnabout is fair play?" After all, you punked Dr. Jaiden, and you already know he is the king of getting even; you can't out punk him." "Dang, I forgot about that. At least he likes me and takes good care of me." "You couldn't be more correct in your assessment of the good doctor, Tyler."

"I'm thrilled you are doing so well, Tyler; you're amazingly healthy, and how you have grown is unbelievable. I never expected you to be taller than your dad." "Mom said the same thing, Dr. Jaiden. You know, you're a good doctor; Dad is a good lawyer, but Mom is still the boss at the end of the day."

"Damned if that isn't correct, Jaiden!" "Yeah, Bill, Dale, and Charley have a little girl in the house who is everybody's boss, and if you don't believe it, she'll let you know." Tyler, Bill, and Jaiden laughed at that comment. Then, as Bill and Tyler got ready to leave the office, Jaiden remembered he wanted to get a full blood panel done on Tyler to make sure everything was OK, so he handed Bill the lab order to get the blood tests drawn downstairs before they left the building.

The day had been grueling, and the only thing Jaiden wanted to do was spend some downtime with Peyton and their boys. So all ten children were outside playing, with the .357 pistol in a locked box sitting next to Jaiden. Peyton walked out, sat next to Jaiden, and asked, "Whatcha thinking?"

"Peyton, Look at the children and tell me what you see." "I see ten dirty toddlers who are going to need a bath before they go to bed; 10 toddlers having fun playing with each other, laughing and happy." "Imagine if we had our boys in Poland in 1945; what do you think would be happening to them there?"

"Jaiden, isn't that rather gruesome to think about?" "It is, but what if we had our children in Poland – or Germany for that matter – in 1945? I'd be hopeful that we'd all be somewhere safe together, hiding from the Third Reich soldiers." "Babe, that would be my hope, too. But what if we weren't Jewish? What if we were protestants or Catholics living openly with our children playing outside? What if the German army took our children to experiment on them in their effort to create a perfect blue-eyed, blonde-headed race of perfect human robots amenable to being taught bigotry and hatred for anybody who didn't fit the German ideal? What if...?"

What if our children had been Lebensborn children?" "What do you mean, Jaiden?"

"Peyton, there were approximately 15000 children – maybe more - born to women who had affairs with German soldiers and officers. When the German military left to return to Germany, many women didn't want their children or want to be responsible for children they had hoped would lead to better, more prosperous lives for them. In Norway, over 10,000 children were born, many of whom were taken from their parents and placed for adoption with proper German families to be raised as `good Germans.' They were run through a German facility in Lebensborn, where they were swaddled and put on tables or in beds, nothing more than material for socialist experiments to create a supposedly superior race of people."

I watched some documentaries on the subject, and hundreds of babies were born and then placed naked on a table to move about in fear and uncertainty that they could not even understand. Eugenics would rule their lives – if they survived childhood – creating horrid memories of things they had to endure at the hands of the Germans. Many of those who had been taken from their parents as babies and placed with German families, families who loved and cared for them, the only family many knew, were ordered to be returned to their original birth families at the end of the war. The children did not speak the Polish or Norwegian languages. They couldn't understand the environment around them, much less what was said to them. I cannot understand how difficult life was for those children at the hands of a bunch of barbaric neanderthals."

"I watch our sons and Dale's and Charley's children and pray and thank Hashem for giving them a chance to grow up happy, with parents who love and care for them. But then, I think about how our profession will help provide things for them that other children can never hope to have or even begin to imagine experiencing. So how do we help those children?

"Jaiden, I don't know. We can continue helping people like Richard and Seth. And then there is Jeremy and other children like him. But one thing is certain: we can only help those we know about and only help them once their needs become evident to us; that is what we have done since the day we became a couple. So, we can keep doing that, and it will be our contribution to those who need our help. We'll continue to get abused children out of bad situations and into homes where they can thrive. We can work to ensure resources are available to children who need them. And most importantly, we can be a painful thorn in the asses of politicians who want to sit on their butts and do nothing but collect a paycheck and get free health insurance."

"Damn, Peyton, there you go doing it again!" "Doing what, Jaiden." "Being the logical one making sense about a situation. Addressing issues openly, creating foundations to deal with those issues to keep them from getting swept under a rug."

"Jaiden, just remember we have to be careful about what we get involved with and commit our time to so the children our practice is here to help don't suffer from a lack of our attention to detail, and so our own children don't suffer because they aren't getting the time they need from us." "There you go doing it again!" "Yeah, I like helping you pull your thumb out of your ass so you get on with a more productive life; you don't seem to realize it, but you do the same for me."

"Really?" "Really, Jaiden."

"Things are about to get interesting." "How?" "Alaina Noelle has had enough of Chuck and Mark trying to protect her, and she is about to let Chuck have it." Dale walked out on the deck and asked Jaiden why Charles Logan screamed and was crying.

"Dale, your little girl got tired of her brother not letting her do anything and trying to protect her, and she put a stop to it." "What'd she do?" "She turned around and cold-cocked Chuck in the mouth. I didn't know that little girl knew how to make a fist like that." Dale smiled and said, "interesting, isn't it?" "Dale, tell me you didn't." "Jaiden, I'm not saying a word, and you better not either." "Dale, you sly dog!" "Like I said, bro, I ain't saying nothin'."

"Ya know, Peyton, there's a good side to being gay." "What is that, Jaiden?" "We don't have to marry a mean girl like Alaina Noelle." "True, but you're just as stubborn as she is, especially if someone tries to take food off your plate." "Yeah, I guess you're right; that does irk me. The only person who has ever gotten away with that is you or the boys." "Yeah, your mom told me that. The difference with me is that I have something you sometimes want, and if I'm upset because you jumped my case, you don't tend to get it." "Peyton, blue balls will make you think twice before you act." Peyton smiled.

"You want to get the boys inside and bathed and then spend some snuggle time watching a good movie?" "I thought you would never ask, sweetheart." So they did that and put the boys to bed. Then the lovers went to their bedroom, stripped, climbed into bed, and snuggled until they fell asleep in the middle of the movie.

The following morning, the clock went off, causing two lovebirds to moan about having to get up. "Jaiden, let's go back to sleep." "Sweetheart, take a look at the bedroom door." Peyton glanced at the door and saw five little boys running toward his and Jaiden's bed. All five boys climbed atop Peyton and Jaiden wanting to play for a few minutes before having breakfast and getting ready to go to the synagogue for Saturday services.

Charley was playing with the children in the yard, and Dale was sitting on the deck. There was a pot of fresh coffee in the kitchen, so Jaiden prepared a cup for Dale and him and took it onto the deck. "Dale, how about a cup of coffee?" "I would love one, Jaiden, thank you."

"You have been quiet lately, Dale; is something wrong? Something I can help with?" "It's quite the opposite, Jaiden; this is home. The children and Charley are happier, and I am incredibly happier. I know we were closer to home when we were in Memphis. Still, Erie is more home than any place I have ever lived, and our big family makes everything perfect for Charley and me. He's talked about how happy he is to be home, and I can see his happiness watching him with the children."

"What was the smirk about, Dale?" "I don't think you want to know, bro." "I wouldn't have asked if I didn't, you know that." "OK, you asked: happiness in Charley is like him having gas; it's gonna come out whether you want it to or not." "Maybe I didn't want to know." "I told you, and you didn't believe me."

"UH-OH, look up. Charley, a storm is coming up kinda fast; we need to get the children inside." "OK, guys, Daddy Dale and Daddy Jaiden said a bad storm is coming up off the lake, so we have to go inside." "Is it gonna tunder and litin, Daddy?" "It sure is, Ben. " "Bye, Daddy; I go in da house." The other nine children ran inside behind Ben and congregated at the door to see the rain as it started pouring. Suddenly, lightning flashed, thunder roared, and the children assembled themselves on the couch, crouching by their dads.

Peyton got a kick from watching Charley almost jump out of his pants when he heard thunder. With him doing that, it will be challenging to help the children overcome their fear of thunder and other loud noises. Jaiden got off the couch and walked behind Charley. When he saw the lightning flash, he moved closer to Charley. Just as Charley started sticking his fingers in his ears to muffle the thunderclap, Jaiden grabbed his wrists and kept his hands away from his head. "Charley, it's easier to teach the children that everything is OK if we remain calm and don't react as they do. We all jump when thunder is excessively loud, but we can avoid the other reactions if we try hard." "OK, Jaiden; point made, I'll try." Jaiden watched Charley for the rest of the evening, and when he heard thunder, his only reaction was to close his eyes.

When the children had been tucked into bed, Jaiden went to the kitchen, got an ice cream bar out of the freezer, handed it to Charley, and said, "When the children learn to do something we have been trying to teach them, we always give them a treat. So, here is your reward for not sticking your fingers in your ears when it thunders." "Thank you, Sir; I shall immensely enjoy this ice cream bar."

When Peyton and Jaiden went to their bedroom, Peyton said, "Jaiden, Charley is hilarious when it comes to weather. It takes all I have to not bust out laughing when he gets so scared of thunder." "He really is, Peyton, but he makes it difficult to convince the children that thunder is not a bad thing." "It's an age thing with them, Jaiden; they'll get better about harsh weather as they age." "That's true, and the quicker, the better as far as I am concerned." "Jaiden, remember, dear, they are only four years old; give them some time." "Stop it, Peyton." "Stop what, babe." "Stop always being the person with the sensible advice and suggestions."

"I will - as soon as I make this last suggestion for the night: take your clothes off and get into bed; I want to snuggle and do a lot of heavy petting." "Are you going to make the rifle shoot?" "Only the one with the muffled sound. Do you think the rifle going off will make you more sensitive?" "I hope so." The guys got into bed and played around like two teenagers coming of age; two hours later, they were sleeping peacefully.

The following morning, the dads got up and prepared breakfast for the children. As the children finished their morning meal, Nathan Robert looked at Jaiden and asked, "Daddy, we go to da bitch today?" "Nathan Robert, do you mean can we go to the beach?" "Uh-huh, Daddy, we go to da bitch." Charley was about to lose it because Jaiden was wracking his brain trying to figure out how to get Nathan Robert to say beach; it always came out as bitch."

Peyton got on the floor and started working with Nathan Robert to get him to say beach. He did a marvelous job using phonics and had Nathan Robert saying beach instead of bitch in fifteen minutes.

"Nathan Robert, can you tell Daddy Jaiden where you want to go?" "Daddy, we go da beach today?" "We sure can, son, and after we go to the beach, would you and your brothers and sister like to go to Tony's for pizza and ice cream." The children started yelling, yea, and Tony's; Jaiden had opened a better can of worms."

"Hey, guys, what have y'all been up to?" "We took the children to the beach, and they were so good we decided to treat them to pizza for lunch." "Y'all know there is a carnival at Riley-Reynolds elementary school, don't you?" "We didn't. Do you think there are some things the children could do there?" "It is for kindergarten through third grade, so there should be several things there that they could enjoy." "Thanks for letting us know; we'll go by there on the way home."

The children were loaded into the van, and Jaiden drove to the school. As they got there, the first person they saw was Carolyn Spencer. After hugs and handshakes were exchanged, `Dr. Spencer' sat on the ground to talk to the children she had not seen since they were born. "Jaiden, Peyton, how old are the children now?" "Carolyn, they just turned four." "Interesting. I just did a verbal assessment of their speech and communication skills; they are already on a third-grade level. It would be interesting for me to give them some math paperwork they could do for fun and see how well they learn the concepts. Based on what I see here, I believe the children will be up to third-grade level by the end of summer. If that is the case, they need to be enrolled in an accelerated kindergarten program."

"I would hate to see the children placed into a classroom where they won't be challenged as they should be and get bored. If that happens, they may present with some behavioral problems." "Carolyn, I think you are right; you must come to the house and watch Nathan Robert and Charles Logan. Once you see them play and learn their personalities, you will have no doubt that they are going to be a challenge wherever they are. The good thing is that all you have to do is let Alaina Noelle see them acting the fool; she will set them straight very quickly – and watching her do that and how they react to her is hilarious." "How so, Jaiden?" "A sharp no is yelled at the boys, and they cower in a close grouping in the middle of the living room in fear of her; she is a stern taskmaster when she gets peeved at her brothers."

"Carolyn, what are you and your husband doing tonight?" "Nothing I know of except maybe watching a ball game on television." "Why don't y'all come to the house around seven, and we can have some fresh knishes and coffee on the deck, and you can see the children playing – and maybe see Alaina Noelle get them in line." "Dale, Let me talk to Jerry and see; would it be OK to bring Mathieu with us?" "Of course. Does he like coffee?" "He loves coffee and will probably love knishes as well." "Peach or strawberry knishes?" "Either, but he may be more partial to peach." "OK, I'll cook both, and he can choose what he wants."

At 7:00 sharp, Carolyn, Jerry, and Mathieu were standing at Jaiden's and Peyton's front door. When they were ushered inside, Dale said, "You're just in time" I'm about to take the knishes out of the oven, and the coffee has just finished brewing. After the usual pleasantries of friendship, everyone sat on the deck and enjoyed the cool breeze blowing in off the lake. Dale sat the coffee, condiments, and the knishes on the large deck table to make it easier for everyone to serve themselves.

Carolyn watched the children interact and solve situations between themselves like children several years their senior would do. Then, she quizzed them on things they should know when they enter kindergarten and was amazed at what the children knew and how they could conceptualize and work with what she had quickly taught them. "Jaiden, these children don't need to be in a regular kindergarten class; they need to be in a Montessori environment. I suggest they start no later than September." "Do you think they are ready for that?" "Jaiden, they are past ready, and the concepts they teach in the Montessori school will carry the children into college. In addition, the advanced classes we have at the school will challenge them and keep their minds occupied, so they don't get into too much mischief. I can already tell that Nathan Robert, Charles Logan, and Alaina Noelle are incredibly smart, and the wheels are constantly turning in their minds. The other children are equally capable but don't seem as inquisitive as Nathan, Chuck, and Alaina. They tend to observe rather than actively investigate. Either way, the two qualities are equally important in learning. You guys have done an awesome job raising the children, and you are to be commended."

"Carolyn, I appreciate your saying that, but the truth is that Ginny and Granny started teaching them early on, and we followed through on what they taught the kids. However, we have had some challenges with certain words, phrases, comments like damn cat, go to the bitch instead of the beach, and similar problems. As a result, we must be cautious about how we say things around the boys." "What about Alaina Noelle?" "Not so much with her so far, but she tends to be way more reserved than the boys. The one thing about her is her stern temperament. When she's had enough of her brothers, she takes control of the situation rather quickly."

Just as Jaiden said that, Alaina Noelle cut loose with a loud, demanding "NO!" Carolyn couldn't help but laugh when she saw the boys run onto the deck and sit as close together as they could - and she also noticed them trembling.

"Jaiden, you told me that would happen, and you were right; you also said it is hilarious to see, and it is; pitty the boys she will date down the road, they won't be able to get away with anything," Dale spoke up and said, "there is one problem with my little girl, she has a mean left hook, and she knows how to use it and follow through with a right punch. I'm praying she won't punch someone out when she gets into school."

"Charles Logan, can you tell Dr. Spencer how Alaina Noelle hits hard when she gets mad?" "Daddy, she mean! She not hit me anymore; I run from her." "Carolyn, what did we tell you? That girl doesn't take any guff off anybody. She is respectful of an adult when they tell her to do or not to do something, but if it is something she really wants to do, she will sulk – just like Charley." "Dale, I heard that!" "Well, Charley, did I tell the truth?" "Yeah, but you didn't have to." "I'm sorry, sweetheart; I'll try to think better and speak less next time."

"Charley, which of you two fathered Alaina Noelle?" "Dale did, and the strange thing is she is just like me temperamentally. If she gets mad, somebody is in for it!" Dale said, "Carolyn, Charley is telling the truth about that; our little girl is the spitting image of him when she gets mad." "Dale, you have to admit that Charley is nowhere near as bad as he used to be when he gets mad; in fact, he's become a pussycat." "True, Jaiden; instead of getting mad, he...I won't say it; I promised Charley I would think more and speak less." Charley sat in his chair, grinning like a Cheshire cat; he knew he had gotten to Dale and loved it."

I hope everyone is having a great week so far! May the good Lord have your backs, and may He protect the paths before your feet!
