"Good morning, handsome; did you sleep well last night?" "You know I did, Peter. The mattresses they had put on the beds are the same ones in Jaiden's and Peyton's home. And then there was a handsome man who kept gently massaging every part of my body until I fell asleep. I seem to remember feeling like he had cuddled up to my back and spooned me. At one point, I couldn't help but notice that the handsome guy was holding me with his right arm. I was so comfortable and felt so loved I knew I had to be dreaming." "Uh, Babe, you weren't dreaming." "I know, Peter; thank you for last night!" "You're welcome, gorgeous."

Peter and Leon went to the dining room and met everybody for breakfast. Mom asked, "did my sons sleep well last night?" "Mom, I don't remember when I slept so well as I did last night." "That's great, son. We're having a southern breakfast this morning. Dad went to the store and got what Jenny and I needed, so breakfast will be ready shortly."

"Dad, what time is everybody flying home today?" "We are supposed to board the plane at 7 p.m. tonight; why?" Peter and I found out about a place we'd like to take Seth after breakfast. It's about an hour from here, and we'll be there for maybe an hour and a half and then head back home." "Where are you two taking Seth?" "It's a surprise for him, so I'll show you on the internet so he won't hear the name of the place and ask any questions before we leave."

Leon opened the computer on the table and typed Cataloochee in the web browser. When the site came up, he turned the laptop to his Dad. When his Dad had read about the area, he asked Peter and Leon if they would mind him tagging along. They said they wouldn't, so they got into Peter's car and headed to northwest North Carolina after breakfast.

Seth kept asking where they were going, and all Leon or Peter would say was that they were going somewhere that Seth was going to love. Finally, Seth looked at his Dad and asked him if he knew where they were going, and he told Seth he didn't know either.

They went through a bit of countryside - called Balsam - just south of Maggie Valley. They saw a pottery shop called the Mud Dabbers pottery studio that Dad said he wanted to stop and see on the way back home, so Peter said they'd stop on the way back.

They pulled up to the traffic light in Maggie Valley and made a slight right and then a left, and headed 15 minutes up the road to Cataloochee. Before getting to Interstate 40, they made a left turn and traveled a series of winding roads. When they got to the dirt portion of the road, Leon started sweating because the road was so narrow, and if you ran off the roadway, it was a 2,000-foot drop straight down a 90-degree angle.

It took about 20 minutes of slow going before they got to the paved portion of the road and went into the Great Smokie Mountains National Park. As they got near Cataloochee Park, Seth heard a squealing sound and asked what made the noise. His Dad said he didn't know, but they'd soon find out.

Peter drove through a gate and started down the hill, and that is when Seth saw the Elk. He got wide-eyed and excited at the elk he saw. They went about halfway into the park, and Peter pulled over, got out his small Canon camera, handed it to Seth, and said, "Little brother, take all the pictures you want. We put a new memory card in the camera, so all of the images you take will be on the card, and you can take it home with you."

Seth was mesmerized by what he saw. He had never seen large animals in the wild like that. His Dad explained how there would be a small bull elk with a few females here and there and then pointed out an elk known as Big Boy. He told Seth how Big Boy was the biggest and most challenging elk in the area, and that's why he had so many cows to himself. He told Seth to watch how the younger bucks moved away from his cows as Big Boy moved around.

Seth must have taken 200 pictures of the elkis community. Then they saw the old Methodist church built in the valley around 1850 before the government took over the land and moved the inhabitants out. Seth also saw the old two-room schoolhouse and the Caldwell house, a large two-story house behind the stream.

They headed home and stopped by the Mud Dabber Pottery Studio on the main highway through a small portion of Waynesville known as Balsam. They stopped, and Dad Riley got a few pottery pieces for Mom Riley and Jenny. The studio owner was a lovely gentleman who showed Seth around the studio and let him see the large kilns in the basement of the building. The owner told them that his brother ran a studio in Brevard where Leon would attend Wellstone. So Leon and Peter decided they would go to that studio after everyone went home.

When everybody got back to the house, Peter got out his laptop and put the camera's memory card into the computer so Seth could see his pictures and show them to his Mom, sister, and brothers. After seeing the herds of elk in Cataloochee, he was one happy young man. He hugged Peter and Leon and thanked them profusely for taking him to see the elk.

After everyone looked at Seth's pictures, they loaded into the van and headed to Wellstone to eat lunch. They were surprised that the university had grilled steaks on the lunch menu. Jaiden was ecstatic that they also had grilled asparagus. Leon couldn't believe they had that for lunch on a college lunch menu, and he indeed found it hard to believe that the steaks were well seasoned and delicious.

Peter looked at Leon and said, "Leon, you're gonna have to be careful eating lunch here." Leon understood the inference of Peter's comment and replied to him, "Peter, there'll just be more for you to hold and love!" Jaiden looked at Peyton and asked if he remembered hearing that comment somewhere. The group started laughing at that point because they remembered Jaiden saying that to his Mom when she cautioned him on his weight shortly after he and Peyton married.

At five o'clock, everyone went to dinner in Boone and then back to the house to load their luggage into the van so they could go to the airport in time to get through TSA and catch their flights home.

As they were getting ready to leave the house, Leon and Peter walked to the end of their driveway so they could watch the family head down the highway. Leon waved until they were out of sight and then sat in the driveway and cried his heart out. Peter got him calmed down, and they walked back to the house, got comfortable, and sat in the den to watch television together.

It was a melancholy evening in many ways, but it was an unbelievably happy time in others. Leon and Peter were at `home,' they were together, and they were beyond happy. A few hours later, they awoke to the realization that they had fallen asleep holding each other on the couch by the fireplace.

"Leon, it's our first night alone in our first home, and the scenery outside is so beautiful, but we still have to eat dinner, so what would you like?" "I was wondering what we could prepare at home and have a nice, cozy dinner by the fireplace. So, let me go see what's in the fridge."

Hey, Babe, come look at this!" "What is it, sweetheart?" "Just come and look at what I am seeing."

"Well, I'll be! Your Mom and Dad must have gone to the store without us knowing it and stocked the freezer." "Sure looks like it."

"Mom, this is Leon. Thanks for the food you put in the freezer; you shouldn't have done that. You, Dad, Peyton, Jaiden, Richard, and Seth have done enough already." "Nah, we haven't done all we have planned on doing and want to do. And as for Seth, you made him the happiest teenager I have seen in a while. He's usually trying to be an overly responsible young man to please his Dad and me. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get him to be a teenager and have some fun with his friends at school and the synagogue, but he is so hooked on vet school that all he wants to do is study.

"Mom, what did I do to make him so happy?" "Does taking him to see the elks in Cataloochee ring a bell?" "Yes, mam. I knew he had a lot of fun there watching the animals and seeing the historical buildings and homes. Still, I didn't realize the visit to the valley had that effect on him." "Well, you made your little brother start acting like a happy teenager, and that's something I have had a hard time accomplishing. He has all the pictures he took developed and printed on photo paper, and Seth has had friend after friend over since we got home showing them the pictures he took."

"Wow. I'm glad Peter and I spent some time with Seth that made that kind of impression on him." "Leon, I wish you could see Seth right now; your heart would melt at how excited and happy you and Peter made him." "Mom, I'm glad we were able to do that. We had a lot of fun watching Dad teaching Seth about the elk bulls and cows and seeing Seth take in everything Dad was teaching him."

"Seth is so excited at the experience he had with you, Peter, and his Dad. I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to be a wildlife vet for the feds, live in the mountains, and care for injured wildlife."

"Hold on a second; Seth's walking into the den. Seth, Leon is on the phone; would you like to speak to him? "No, mam, I took enough of his and Peter's time going to Cataloochee. He's still on his honeymoon, and he needs to spend time with Peter. Besides, I've written him a letter that I'll mail Monday morning."

"Mom, I heard what Seth said. Is he always that considerate?" "To a fault, Leon. He is such a loving and thoughtful young man everywhere he goes with whomever he meets. When he leaves for the university, Jim and I will sit down and have a good cry because this house will be so empty and lonely without Seth around."

"It's funny, Mom; that is how I felt when I realized Jenny had left for home. She is so special and loving to Peter and me. It's just not the same without her around to call us jerk-butt and pick on us."

"Leon, she really does love you, and she loves Peter because you do. I would hate to be around her if she saw someone mistreat you or Peter. I think Jenny would claw someone's eyes out if she saw them mistreat either of you. And by the way, she's going to be at the trial next week. We've got reservations at the Hampton Inn until the case is over. The courthouse is a little less than an hour from your and Peter's home, so you can drive in every day. Your Dad will give you gas money for the drive for as long as it takes."

"Mom, Peter can take care of that expense; besides, he wants to be at the trial with me." "Leon, it's not nice to argue with Mom; she'll eat you alive; ask your Dad." "Yes, mam; Dad's already warned me about that."

"Oh, and while I am thinking about the trial week, Leon, Peyton intends to be there. Jaiden is going to stay in Memphis to work and keep the children."

"Mom, Harry said Judge Anderson was going to be there as well, that he wanted to lay eyes on my bio-donor in case he showed up in Memphis. Harry said God help the man if he ever shows up in his Dad's courtroom." "I understand, son. The judge wants a chance to get his hands on the man for the pain he caused you. "

"Mom, I don't want anyone getting upset when they see the man who murdered my mother. In fact, I wish everyone would ask the judge to let them make a statement to him and then hear them tell the piece of crap that they forgive him. He doesn't deserve to have any mental power over anybody. Forgiving him and telling him so in open court will take away any hope he may have of having mental control over me or anybody else."

"Son, what you just said shows tremendous growth over how you felt just a year ago, and it makes me so proud of you; I know your Dad will feel the same way when I tell him what you said." "Mom, I just want a chance to speak to the man in court. I won't be nasty to him, but I do have a few things I want to say to him. But then, I want you, Dad, and Peyton to have a chance to say whatever you want to tell him. It will be over for me when that is done, and I'll be able to get on with my life with Peter and my family."

"Leon, you have no idea how badly I needed to hear you say that. I'll sleep better tonight after hearing what you said." "That's good, Mom. Give Dad and Seth a hug for me; I love y'all." "We love you more, Leon."

"Hubby, did you have a good talk with your Mom?" "More than you will know, sweetheart. She wouldn't let me argue with her about all the food they bought for us." "Leon, you should have known that after what Peyton and your Dad told you. They don't even try to argue with your Mom." "That's true. It's just that I'm still not used to having family love and help me the way they do." "I know, Babe, but you've got to admit, it's an incredible feeling to know they have your back and love you beyond measure." "Yeah, it really is, Peter; it really is."

"Leon, I thawed two steaks and put two potatoes in the oven to bake. When I get the steaks on the grill, how do you like yours cooked?" "Medium or a little less is good, thank you." "You're welcome, Babe."

"Here, sweetheart, try this dip." "Peter, this is really good; did you make it?" "I did; do you like it?" "It's delicious. What kind of bread is this. It's Pumpernickle bread and Beau Monde dip. Mom likes to serve it at parties at the house. But, unfortunately, she has to take it to her Bridge club every week, or the ladies complain the whole time they are playing cards."

"I can see why; this stuff is delicious." "You've never had it before?" "No, but I'm going to make sure we have it once in a while. We don't need it too often unless we want to be as big as the side of a country barn."

"The timer on the stove is going off; I hope it means the potatoes are ready; if they are, I'll put the steaks on the grill."

"I take it the potatoes were done." "They are, and the steaks should be ready in about 8 minutes." "Leon, do you know anything about the grill outside?" "A little; why?" "I opened the lid, and smoke barrelled out." "Jaiden told me it's a pellet smoker grill. The heat stays pretty constant, and an auger system pushes hardwood pellets into a small burner. He says steaks, burgers, and hot dogs cooked on the grill are awesome." "We'll undoubtedly know shortly, Leon; the steaks smell heavenly on the grill."

"Dinner's ready, sweetie." "Good; I'm starved."

"Leon cut a small piece of steak and put it in his mouth. Geez, Peter, this steak is delicious. The smoke flavor is exquisite, and it is cooked to perfection." "I'm glad you like it, handsome." "Have you tasted it yet, Peter?" "Tasting it now."

"Oh....my...word! This steak flavor is unreal! That grill does an awesome job." "Agreed. Jaiden says the more we use it, the better everything cooked on it will taste." "Leon, If the food cooked on that grill tastes better than what we're eating now, we're going to have to be careful, or we'll wind up as fat as a pig." "Just more to love, Peter, just more to love."

"That's true, Leon, but I don't want you to get so big that I can't pick you up, throw you on the bed, and jump your bones." "I'll make sure I don't get too fat because I want you to be able to do that."

"Be careful how you say that, Leon. If you keep saying that the way you just did, you're going to get me turned on in a major way, and we'll have to do something about my predicament." "Promise, Peter?" "Oh, yeah, Leon."

"Jaiden, I really miss Leon not being around." "So do I, handsome, but he is in a beautiful area that will keep his mind off the past more so than if he and Peter stayed here. Sitting on the side of the mountain with that beautiful snow and overlooking the area below and around them, I'm sure they're keeping busy with each other." "I bet you're right – if the sunburn has gone away enough." "I'm sure it has; if it hasn't, I'm sure Peter has a spray bottle of lidocaine." "Leave it to you, Jaiden, to know how to keep your horny self ready." "Hey, Babe, if ya got it, ya got it, but if you want it, you've gotta do what you have to do to get it." "Sweetheart, you're a nut!"

"Peyton, I'm not a nut, but I sure like a nut when it is attached to your third leg." "Gross, Jaiden." "Not gross, Peyton, succulent." "Besides, you've enjoyed my nuts when you chew on them; you even said they were tasty."

"True, but you spread peanut butter on them before I tasted them. And then there was the peach jam, the strawberry jam, Vermont Maple syrup, and vanilla ice cream. Damn, hubby." "What do you mean by saying damn, Peyton?" "Thinking about all the good tastes you gave me has made me hungry."

"Sorry, Peyton, we're all out of jelly, and the boys ate all the peanut butter." "True, but you hid the Hawaiian syrup, so we still have that." "Peyton, are you game with the Hawaiian syrup? "I'm game if you're game!"

Jaiden walked into the kitchen, reached into the cabinet over the fridge, and got the Hawaiian syrup. Then, Jaiden walked past Peyton in the den, held up the syrup, and continued to their bedroom. Peyton followed Jaiden.

Peyton walked into their bedroom and closed and locked the door. Jaiden was already undressed, so Peyton undressed, got the syrup bottle, walked up to Jaiden, and then poured the syrup into his left hand. Next, he reached around Jaiden and applied the hand full of syrup to Jaiden's walnuts and sausage. When he had done that, Jaiden did the same thing to Peyton.

Peyton crawled onto the bed and laid on his back. Jaiden turned to a 69 position and straddled Peyton. Then he lowered the midsection of his body until Peyton could nibble on his walnuts and clean the syrup off his sausage. At the same time, Jaiden leaned forward until he could engulf Peyton's pecans, suck the syrup off of them, and get some moisture from Peyton's hosepipe. It was a little odd to them that their knees were weak after sucking the syrup off of each other's nuts; Peyton cleaned Jaiden's sausage, and Jaiden emptied Peyton's hosepipe.

Jaiden turned around, put his head on a pillow, pulled Peyton on top of him, and held Peyton until they fell asleep as they laid on the bed, Peyton atop Jaiden. Sunday morning, when they awoke, they showered, dressed, and began cooking breakfast for all ten children and Dale and Charley.

They cooked scrambled eggs for the children, along with turkey sausage. For the adults, they cooked Mary B's Biscuits, turkey sausage and made a pot of coffee. When Dale and Charley sat down to eat breakfast, Charley decided he wanted some Hawaiian syrup with his biscuit and sausage and got up to retrieve it from the kitchen cabinet.

"Hey, guys, did we eat all the Hawaiian syrup?" "No, Charley. I think I know where it is." Jaiden got up, walked to his bedroom, and returned with the syrup. When he handed Charley the syrup, Charley looked at Dale as if to ask, "Should I." Dale turned crimson red and didn't say a word; he knew full well why the syrup was in Jaiden's and Peyton's bedroom.

Since the babies had a bath before they went to bed the night before, their dads dressed them in some warm jeans and flannel shirts to help them stay warm and let them run wild and play in the den.

Jaiden and Peyton were a little concerned when Nathan Robert climbed into Jaiden's lap and didn't want to play on the floor. "Nathan, do you feel bad this morning?" "No, Daddy. Read me story." Jaiden's heart melted when his wildest son wanted to be close to his daddy while he had a story read to him. But that's when a problem crept up: the other four boys climbed up on the couch to sit with Jaiden and Peyton so they could listen to the story with Nathan Robert. The problem is that Dale's and Charley's children wanted to sit with the other children to listen to the story.

Dale and Charley pulled up two recliners in front of Jaiden and Peyton to make their children happy. Dale held three of his sons, and Charley held their other son and Alaina Noelle. Dale wasn't happy Alaina Noelle got into Charley's lap, but that is where she wanted to sit. It was a bit strange for the little girl to do that, but she likes to sit with her other daddy once in a while.

When Jaiden finished reading a story to the babies, Jason Alexander looked up at Dale and said, "Daddy, onna take a nap." So, Dale and Charley took their children upstairs, watched as they got into their beds, and quickly went to sleep. Peyton's and Jaiden's children followed suit, got into their beds, and fell asleep.

"Guys, this is a bit unusual for the children to take a nap so quickly in the morning." "Jaiden, I don't know what your and Peyton's children did last night, but Dale's and my children stayed up for a while talking to each other, so my guess is they are tired from lack of sleep." "Probably so, Charley, but what are we going to do while they are napping?"

"Dale, do we have any knishes in the freezer?" "We do, Charley; do you want me to heat up some?" "Yeah, and make a pot of coffee."

Dale went to the kitchen, put eight knishes into the oven, and started a pot of coffee. Fifteen minutes later, the knishes were hot, the coffee smelled delicious, and the guys loaded a plate for themselves.

"Dale, these knishes are awesome." "Thank you, sir." `But the coffee, I don't know what you did to it." "Is something wrong with it?" "Yep." "What's wrong with it, Jaiden?" "It's better than it usually is."

"Jaiden, I swear; I thought you were going to say it didn't taste right or something." "Dale, you didn't ask me if something bad was wrong with the coffee; you just asked if something was wrong with the coffee. Something was wrong with the coffee; it's vastly better than it usually is." "Jaiden, so help me; one day, one day!" "Dale, don't go getting your briefs twisted around your crown jewels!" Charley said, "Yeah, Dale, don't hurt the crown jewels; I love those things!"

"So, you like my crown jewels, Charley." "Shore do, Dale; they feel good, they taste good, and they work real good when they need to." "Sweetie, you're a nut."

"No, Dale, I'm not a nut, but I do have two nuts, and they're nice nuts, plump nuts, prettier than oysters on the half-shell, and they taste just as good. You've said so before." "Charley!" "Sorry, handsome; the truth is the truth." "Maybe so, but some things are better left unsaid."

"Oh, no, Dale; I'm proud of my nuts; proud of both my nuts, so I've gotta let my nuts know they are great nuts, not grape nuts." "Damn, it's gonna be one of those nights." "Dale, does that mean you wanna play with my nuts, roll my nuts, and taste my nuts?" "No, Charley, it means I want you to stop talking about your nuts, trying to get me to play with your nuts and taste your nuts." "Dale, I can put Hawaiian syrup on my nuts like Jaiden and Peyton put on their nuts, and you can lick the syrup off my nuts and clean my stick shift." "Oh my, what have I started?" "You started a conversation about my nuts, Dale."

"Charley, if you don't shut up about your nuts, I am going to lie facing you in the bed, throw my right arm over you to hold you in place, and then quickly raise my right knee - into your nuts! "If I don't shut up about what, Dale." "Precisely, Charley!" Jaiden and Peyton were laughing their butts off because Charley just got Dale but good!"

"Dale, stand up just a minute and turn around." "Why, Charley?" "Dale, just do what I asked you to do." "OK."

Dale stood up and turned around as Charley asked him to do. "Peyton, Jaiden, look at this. Dale has a butt, a bubble butt, an adorable butt. Do you two think it would be fun for me to play with Dale's butt? I bet his butt is a soft butt, a squishy butt, a play dough butt that's fun to knead. I think I need Dale's butt."

"Charley." "Yes, Peyton." "Charley, you can play with Dale's butt. You can knead his butt and need his butt. You can kiss his butt, squeeze his butt, lay your head on his butt, but there is one thing about his butt that is the same as all butts." "And what is that, Peyton?" "They all stink." "Dang! I think I'll leave Dale's butt alone." "Charley, that might be a good idea."

Dale walked over to Charley and whispered into his ear that the sausage warmer was still available if he wanted to warm his sausage one night – soon!" That caused a grin to stretch from ear to ear across Charley's face. When Dale stood up after offering Charley the conciliatory gesture, he smiled and winked at his husband.

On Tuesday morning, the mailman ran early by Leon's and Peter's home. When Leon went to the mailbox to get the mail, there was a letter from Seth in the box. He took it back to the house to open it with Peter. When he started reading it, tears welled up in Leon's and Peter's eyes.

"Dear Leon and Peter, thank you so much for taking Dad and me to Cataloochee so I could see the elk. I had the most fun I've had in a long while since I have been working extremely hard getting ready to enter the University of Florida."

"It was so sweet of you two to do that for me since you were still on your honeymoon. I didn't mean to take that much time away from the two of you, so thank you so much for giving me such an incredible adventure. I have printed and framed the pictures and will enter them in a photography contest here in Orange Beach."

"I'll let you know if any of the pictures I took are chosen in the contest. I love you two so much, and I can hardly wait to see you again. Seth."

"Wow, Peter. It is really nice that someone as young as Seth was so thoughtful to send a thank you note for such a small gesture on our part." "I couldn't agree more, Leon. We need to write him back and tell him how proud we are of him and that we can hardly wait for him to be able to come and spend some time with us."

"Peter, I'll write that note, and you can sign it with me so we can get it in the mail to Seth. Do you think it would be okay to scan the letter and send a copy to Richard, Peyton, and Jaiden?" "I think that's a great idea; Richard and Sally will be so proud of Seth, and so will Peyton and Jaiden.
