"Mr Clemson, it would be unwise for me to either confirm or deny the rumor. You as well as your readers will simply have to wait and see the season unfold. Good day sir."

I headed into the locker room and Dana stopped me.

"What did Clemson want?"

"He flat out asked me if I had a triple for my floor. Is the guy legitimate?"

"Oh yeah he's sold articles to some of the sports magazines. As far as I can tell he's always been fair to the atheletes. So what did you tell him?"

"That he shouldn't listen to rumors and he and his readers would just have to wait for the season to unfold."

"Sounds pretty safe. You coming back later?"

"That was the plan after some lunch."

"OK, later then."

I headed out to the student union as it was the closest place to get something. I thought about Clemson and called Karl.

"Hey lover, I just had a run in with a reporter. He asked me flat out if I had a triple in my floor now. I told him he would just have to wait and see like everybody else. So just a heads up."

"You think he'd actually come here and pump me?"

"Anything is possible love."

"OK consider me warned. You almost done?"

"Nope just breaking for lunch. I'll call before I head home."

"Stay safe."

I finished my lunch and headed back to the rec center. I took a good look around once I got back to the apparatus room and Clemson wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Another full run through of all of my routines, a few laps in the pool and a little undisturbed time in the whirlpool and I called Karl.

I was soon enough home, with a couple of hours before supper. I took the time to check on my imaginary portfolio as well as my real one. Both seemed in pretty good shape. Just for sheer curiosity I did check on the European energy market. Comsumer prices had been going up steadily since the take over. Pretty much what I expected. I wondered how long it was going to take before we felt the bite here at home?

Supper was soon had and then Karl and I crashed in front of the tv until we sacked out.

Sunday morning and the routine took over and before too long Karl and I were back at the apartment, showered and fed. School work was the order of the day and we worked right up to lunch time. We grabbed a couple of sandwichs and were right back at it.

By the time I heard Paul and Cam pull in I was done with everything I needed to take care of.

"Looks like it's that time Karl."

We were quickly downstairs and helping to set the table. It was a fairly quiet dinner this week and once the table was cleared Paul and Cam left and we were back upstairs.

"That was a quiet meal. Think there's anything wrong?"

"Always a possibility Den, but let's just keep our noses out of it."

"Absolutely lover."

It was more tv tonight before we crashed.

Monday morning and we were up and out as usual. We got over to campus and met up with the guys, and other than your basic good mornings, there wasn't any conversation this morning. It was unusual that somebody didn't have something to say.

Laps got finished and Karl and I headed back to the apartment.

"That was weird."

"Yeah I wonder what the hell is bugging everybody? I sure as hell haven't heard anything around campus."

"Me neither. Whatever is going on I'm sure we'll hear about it eventually. You hitting the rec center after class?"

"No I'm going to go out and check on Randy and see how he's doing. I'll call when I'm on my way home."

Soon enough we were showered and fed and on the road to classes. The somber mood of our group was echoed through the whole school as far as I could see. When I broke for lunch and Pete and Susan came by I had to ask.

"Pete, do you have any idea what has everybody so 'down' today?"

"You mean ou haven't heard?"

"Heard what? What the hell is going on?"

"There's a rumor going around that the school is going to loose it accreditdation. That would mean everybody would have wasted their time here."

"How the hell did I miss that one I wonder? So anybody know where the rumor started,or any facts to back it up?"

"No idea where it started and I haven't seen or heard anything concrete."

"So everybody is waiting for the shoe to drop. Anybody you know think to ask the higher ups?"

"Not anybody I've talked to."

"Well guess I'll go press my luck."

Pete and Susan got on their way and I finished my lunch. I didn't have time to do it before class, but I was going to go to the Deans office as soon as I was done.

So as soon as I was finished with Risk/Rewards I headed for the administration building.

Mrs Humboldt gave a quick glance as I came into the office.

"If Dean Evans has a moment Mrs Humboldt?"

"Let me just check Mr Sawyer."

She went into the inner office and shortly opened the door and gestured me in.

"Well, I can just about guess what's on your mind Dennis. Was wondering when somebody would get up the gumption to come ask."

"Strange as it may sound, I only found out a few hours ago. Guess that comes from not living on campus any more."

"Well I can put your mind to rest. We are being looked at after that computer snafu with the grades. We however are not in any danger whatsoever of loosing our accreditdation. I've given that statement to the school paper, but they don't publish until Thursday. I'd appreciate it if you started spreading the word."

"You can count on it sir. I've seen way too many long faces around here today."

"Yes I'm sure that you have. Then was there anything else I can do for you today?"

"No sir and thank you for your time."

I left the building and when I was on my way to my car, I ran into Gordon and Aiden.

"Hey guys. Good news. The school is not going to loose it accreditdation. I just came from Dean Evans office. He told me the school was being looked at after the grade snafu, but we are in no dnager whatsoever of loosing the accreditdation. So spread the word."

"That's great news and spreading the word is something we can sure as hell do."

"Okay and thanks. See you guys in the morning. I have to get on the road."

I got to the car and gave it the quick once over and was then on my way over to the hospital. When I got to his room, Randy was busy working away on his computer.

"Hey Dennis. What the hell is going on at the college?"

"How the hell did you hear about it when I only found out a couple of hours ago?"

He just pointed to his computer.

"I talk to people."

I went and gave him the whole story, at least as I knew it.

"Well good to know I'm not wasting my time."

"So you need anything?"

"No I'm pretty well covered. I should be back on campus in about a week or so,but until the back heals better I'll be in a wheelchair."

"Any casts?"

"Nope just a back brace which they tell me I'll be able to take off so I can at least shower."

"You need help with anything, call."

"I will Den, but I'm betting that the team will be around to take care of me. Coach has already been in and said they expect me on the sidelines with them the rest of the season."

"Sounds like you'll be in good hands. I'm outta here."

"Later Den."

I headed out and gave the car a quick check and called Karl to let him know I was on my way.

I got home and filled Karl in on what I had learned about why everybody was so down.

"Yeah that would sure as hell do it, but Dean Evans says not to worry?"

"Right and he asked me to spread the word, so put it out there tomorrow. I've already got Gordon and Aiden on it."

"Hell what do you need me for? It sure as hell is all over Cochran hall by now,if not further."

"True enough but it couldn't hurt to have more than one source."

We settled down to supper and then studied for a few hours before calling it a night.

Tuesday morning and we were up to the usual routine. Everybody seemed to be in a much better mood this morning. Today I had my review of my portfolio so when I got home I got all of my notes together for it. Today was also a scheduled practice so Karl knew I wasn't likely to be home until late.

There wasn't much of a lecture today and the reviews went fairly quickly as well.

"Seems you are still on track Mr Sawyer. Since you brought it to my attention I have been keeping watch on that other matter. Seems you called it on that one."

"I just got lucky on that one."

"I think luck had little to do with it Mr Sawyer. See you next week."

It was still early when I got to the rec center, but the room was open. I went right in and changed up and hit the floor. I did my usual stretches and started with my floor routine as the mat was open. It was an open practice so I stayed with the doubles today. I did notice that Clemson was still nosing around. I saw him talking to several of the other guys and I hoped to hell they remembered what coach had said about what goes on in the room stayed in the room.

I worked all of the other stations and then took a few to see if there was anything I could spot in the other guys routines.

Greg and Josh were still trying hard to do triples of their own, and Clemson seemed to be paying them particular attention today. In fact it got to the point that coach asked him to back off.

I was on my way to the locker room when I heard an unusual thump.

"Son of a bitch!"
