I got myself upstairs and got supper going and didn't think anymore about the car. Karl pulled in at the usual time.

"Anything special happen today lover?"

"Not a thing that I know of Den, you?"

"Nope just an ordinary day."

"Let's hope for a lot more of them."

"Supper in 5."

Karl got our table set and supper was soon enough over with.

Tomorrow was a review day for my portfolio so I spent the evening going over it. I was still satisfied with the performance of my choices. I then crashed in front of the tube while Karl was working on a project.

Bedtime finally rolled around and we were both out of it pretty quickly tonight.

Tuesday morning and we were up and out as usual. Laps run, home showered and fed and Karl was off and I had a little time to kill. I just relaxed seeing as we had a mandatory practice this afternoon. When it was time I headed in for the 15 minute discussion and then my review.

"Unless you've made some changes Mr Sawyer, I really don't need to see you today."

"I haven't sir."

"Then off with you."

I headed over to the student union and grabbed some lunch and headed outside. Nobody stopped to talk to me for a change. After a bit I headed over to the rec center and got changed up.

I was a little early so there wasn't anybody else there yet except the coach.

"Anxious Dennis?"

"No more than usual coach. What's the word on Prescott so far?"

"They're having a decent season 3 and 1."

"Well we're about to make that 3 and 2."

"I certainly hope so Dennis."

It was only a littile bit before others started showing up and once there were enough of us there to spot each other we got started. By 4 everybody was there and we really got down to it. I was in between rotations when Josh was working his highbar routine. As it was a closed practice I waited to see if he was going to thrown his triple.

He did and he landed it pretty solid.

Greg was up next and I watched him, closely as well. Gregs triple was beautiful to watch and he landed it solid as well. I got back to work and threw all of my triples today as well and landed them pretty solidly to boot.

Along about 7 the coach called us all together.

"Ok guys you're all looking pretty good out there tonight. Rest up for the remainder of the week and the bus leaves at 4:30."

Tonight I didn't bother with the pool or the whirlpool, but did take a long steamy shower. I checked the car over, gave Karl a call and then headed home.

"Anything unusual today lover?"

"Not that I heard or saw Den, you?"

"Nope quiet as could be, which I hope to hell is a good thing."

"You and me both. Supper's on in 5."

We ate and then cleaned up and I hit the books for a bit. It dawned on me that Christmas was coming quick and I hadn't hit the toy store once yet, or done any shopping for that matter.

So something to start tomorrow.

We evetually crashed for the night and hump day was bright and clear. So it was off to campus for our laps and then back to the apartment for the usual routine.

We were off to classes and they were finally gotten through and I made a quick trip to the mall and hit the toy store. I got a little carried away as I had gotten a late start to it this year. I also took the time to pick up a few things for Karl and the rest of the family.

I still managed to beat Karl home today so got right to making supper. Karl rolled in at his usual time.

"Anything special today Karl?"

"Nothing other than they are lifting the curfew effective tonight."

"Well that's going to make a lot of people happy."

"No doubt about that. I just hope everything stays quiet."

"You had to bring that up. Now I'm going to worry all frigging night."

"Too short a notice to get anything organized for tonight lover."

"Bullshit and you know it Karl. With the net and everything all they need is a "go" code to get something launched."

"Yeah I suppose so. Think positive for a change lover. Nothing is going to happen."

"We should be so lucky. Hell with midterms next week maybe everybody is too wrapped up in their classes to worry about it for now."

"Regardless lover, take a deep breath and worry about it when something happens."

"About all I can do I guess. Christmas is in a couple of weeks, anything special you're hoping for?"

"All I need for Christmas is you beside me Den."

At which point I went over and gave Karl a big hug and a kiss.

"Now and for a great many years I hope Karl."

We settled in for supper and a little time with the books before we called it early tonight. We held each other drawing what security we could from each others arms. We did evetually fall asleep but with one eye open so to speak. The alarm went off and Karl and I both groggily got ready for the day. There hadn't been any disturbances through the night that we had taken notice of.

We got ourselves together and made it to campus for our laps.

"Damn you two look like something the cat dragged in."

"Neither one of slept for shit last night Paul. We were worried something might happen with the curfew lifted."

"Well you needn't have been too concerned. As far as I know nothing went down last night."

"Well the day has barely begun Paul. We may hear something later."

"I suppose. Let's get this done."

So we were off and running for the day. Karl and I made our way back to the apartment still not hearing anything untoward. Fed, showered and changed Karl headed out and I waited around the house until it was time for the practicum.

Once that was taken care of I hit the road back to the mall for another toy store run and a few other things for people. I still beat Karl home by at least an hour. I got supper started and the table set. Karl showed up finally.

"So anything come up today Karl?"

"I didn't hear about anything lover, you?"

"Not a think. Maybe we have lucked out."

"Maybe lover but I bet you're not going to be letting your guard down."

"Damn right I won't. Just as soon as I do somebody will get brave and try something stupid."

"Damn Den you are paranoid, or delusions of granduer or something."

"I think I'm being rather realistic Karl. You've said it before that I'm kind of the public face of homosexuality. That makes me a target for the homophobes. No way in hell I'm going to make it an easy target."

"Kinda my point lover. You're too good a target as you are not to mention one of the major reasons we took the all state last year and are on the road to do it again this year. Something happened to you over this and there really would be hell to pay."

"And that may not make one damn bit of difference to these guys. They might think the risk is worth the reward."

"I can't see anybody being that dense Denny."

"Maybe not but it isn't beyond the realm of possibility, so I keep my guard up."

"Yeah better safe than sorry I suppose. Supper almost done?"

"Yeah in just a couple."

We ate and got things cleaned up once again and then hit the books until we crashed.

Friday morning and we were naturally up and at it again. There seemed to be a bit of tension around the campus today as we ran our laps.

"Is it just me or are people on edge?"

"Not just you Den. I think prople are waiting for something to happen."

"Let's hope they are wrong. Will I be seeing you guys at the meet?"

"Count on it Den."

Karl and I made our way back to the apartment and got ourselves squared away for the day. Classes all seemed to drag by this Friday, and as the day wore on it seemed to me the anxiety level increased.

By the time I made it to the bus, everybodies head was on a swivel.

"Dana, this ain't good. Think there's anything that could be said to help allieviate the tension?"

"Not until we're off campus I'm thinking, if then."

We got loaded up and got on the road without incident. Coach made his way to the middle of the bus.

"Ok you guys listen up. Nothing happened on campus and nothing is going to happen on campus or on this trip. Like the movie says, 'get your head in the game'. Otherwise we might just as well turn around and go back to campus."

There was a good deal of murmuring going on as we rolled on towards Prescott.

I was sitting by myself and thinking that Prescott may well have saved whatever they had for this meet. It was probably going to be one hell of a grudge match after their having to forfiet last year. I decided that I wasn't going to let my guard down here, though I thought they would have to be really stupid to try anything after last year.

We pulled onto campus and to the appropriate parking lot, but there wasn't anyone there. I looked at my watch and we had made a bit better time than we had thought that we would.

It was only a few minutes before somebody showed.

"Our apologies coach we didn't expect you for another half hour."

"Yes we did make pretty good time today. Well not to worry. Let's get the rooms assigned and get these guys fed."

Which took about a half hour to get things sorted out. We were then on our way to their cafeteria for supper. We got through the line and got ourselves seated. I was about finished eating when I saw a familiar person coming towards me. I bussed my tray real quick and intercepted Mercer before he got to the table.

"You sure it's smart to be seen with us after last year?"

"I don't think anybody is going to care except maybe a couple of guys who were held over, which is why I came to see you tonight instead of in the morning when they will all be around."

"Well let's keep it very public. None of us need any accusations being thrown around."

To prevent a spate of emails from those of you who are not cinephiles, the movie quoted is Disneys "High School Musical".
