I went into a crouch and started to zig zag and made a break for my car. I was pelted with more of whatever this was, and then I realized it was water.

I looked to see what was going on. In the center of each group of people was one of my friends all with shiteating grins on their faces.

"We had do do something to break the tension around here Denny."

"So help me Karl when you least expect it you will pay for this. But yeah it needed to be broken."

I drip dried for a while and finally made it back to my car. I checked it over once again and headed back to the apartment. I wouldn't do anything here because I didn't want to take the chance of damaging the Castanzas property, but we were headed home in a little over 2 weeks.

I fought my way through the reporters and went upstairs and changed into some dry clothes and waited for Karl. He had to make his own way through the reporters and finally made his way upstairs. He opened the door carefully and took a look around before entering.

"To obvious to retaliate now lover."

"I hear the words Den, but I never accused you of being subtle."

"Any way get in here. What was the reaction after I left?"

"Almost everybody was having a good laugh over it."

"Almost?"

"There was a group of guys who were a little sour faced about it."

"Anybody we know or know about?"

"Didn't recognize anybody, why?"

"Just thinking that they might be the ones behind the scenes so to speak."

"Always possible I suppose. I'll pay closer attention if there is a next time."

"Better not be a next time, at least not involving me. My goodwill only goes so far Karl."

"Yeah I heard that lover."

"So did you hear anything today?"

"Just what we heard on the tube last night."

"I'm betting it will be a while before we hear anything."

"Probably. Supper going to be ready soon?"

"In about 10."

We settled in for the night after supper and did stay up long enough to watch the 10pm news, with no new information coming forth.

So it was off to bed and another day ended.

Tuesday dawned bright and clear, and when the alarm went off I made my way out to the front window and saw that the reporters were out there again this morning.

"The crowd is back lover. Do we go for it or not?"

"I'm getting really tired of this shit Den. Fuck it we're running."

I went in and got changed and we headed out. This morning I did stop though.

"Ok folks I'm only going to say this once. It's no comment today and it will be no comment in the days to come. So do yourselves a favor and get the extra hours sleep."

We then took off. One of these days they would get the point that I simply wasn't going to talk to them. With my luck they would get the point right when I did have something to say.

Questions were still shouted to us when we came back on our first lap,as well as the second. By the third lap around the reporters had started to thin and by the fourth they were all gone.

"Think that will be the last of them Den?"

"Until some other piece of news happens yeah. Then we start the process all over again."

We got inside and cleaned up and changed. Karl was shortly off to campus. I had a couple of hours to kill and today being a review day for me I checked the portfolio and didn't see anything that required any attention.

The time came for me to head into class and I went down and checked the car over and then headed in. They were still inspecting cars but the line was moving along a bit better.

It was the usual 15 minute discussion and I was last in line for my review..

"Still holding steady I see Mr Sawyer."

"Yes sir. I didn't see anything that needed attention."

"Very well Mr Sawyer until next time."

I made my way to the exit of the building and took a good look around before I exited. Everything looked as normal as it could be. I headed for my car and got there without incident. I checked it over once again and didn't find anything.

So it was out to the mall and some grocery shopping before I headed back to the apartment. Much to my surprise there weren't any reporters around. I got things inside and put away and settled into a bit of school work before Karl got home and I needed to get something going for supper.

After supper I put my jogging clothes back on and headed outside to do a few tumbling runs across the yard. With any kind of luck we might still have a shot at the all state, but I wasn't holding my breath.

I eventually went inside and cleaned up a little and settled down to a bit of school work. Karl and I both called it a night fairly early with as little sleep as we had gotten the last few nights.

The alarm went off on this hump day and I went to the front window and it was clear.

"Looks like we get a clean shot at our jogging today lover."

"Then we best get to it before anybody shows up."

So we were soon making our laps of the neighborhood without incident. It was back to the apartment and showered and fed and off to classes. I kept my eyes open and didn't see anything to put me on edge. After risk/rewards I headed for the car and checked it over and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Soon I was back to the apartement to wait for Karl.

He showed up soon enough, and it was obvious he had heard something.

"Some of the restrictions are being lifted as of tomorrow. There's still a dusk til dawn curfew, but all other activites are being allowed to start up again."

"I wonder what prompted the loosening of restrictions?

"No idea lover. I'm just glad they have."

"We can hit the rec center and jog with the guys?"

"Yeah, at least that is what I heard."

I went and checked my email and there was an announcement to that effect from the deans office there.

"I wonder if that will save our season?"

"I bet Dana could tell you."

My phone rang at that point with Danas ringtone.

"Your ears must have been burning. What's the word?"

"Mandatory practice tomorrow at 4, and yes as far as anybody can determine we are still alive for the all state."

"I'll sure as hell be there. Damn I hope we are good to go. Think we'll be ready to go in only three weeks after getting back from Thanksgiving?"

"Hope to hell we are. As far as I know all of our opponents have been able to keep practicing while we've been cooped up."

"We haven't missed that many practices Dana. I'm betting we'll still be good."

"Hope to hell you're right."

"See you tomorrow Dana."

I hung up.

"Dana seems to think we're still good to go the all state."

"Will you need to stay on campus again?"

"Probably, but you can still stay here and we can see each other during the day."

"There is that I suppose."

My phone rang again.

I looked at the id and it was Gordon.

"Hey Gordon. What's up?"

"We going to see you in the morning for jogging?"

"Sure as hell looks that way. After you guys being away from it for a week or so I guess we'll have to take it easy on you guys tomorrow."

"So you and Karl have been keeping it up?"

"Yeah when we can get through the reporters. We'll see you in the morning."

"Later."

Karl and I soon enough had our supper, did a little school work and called it an early night.

Thursday morning and I got up and looked out the window. There were a few reporters around this morning.

"OK lover up and at 'em. Gordon and the guys are expecting us for jogging."

"Yeah I hear ya. How's it looking outside?"

"Just a small group today."

We got changed into our jogging stuff and headed for campus. When we came around the corner from the parking lot everybody was there waiting on us.

There was a goodly amount of chatter amongst us seeing as we hadn't really seen each other in well over a week. The jogging itself was done without any incidents an Karl and I returned to the apartment without a problem. Even the reporters had dissappeared by the time we got back.

We got showered up and Karl was off to his classes. I made sure to load all of my gymnastics stuff into the car before I headed in for the practicum.

The usual 15 minute discussion was held and then the reviews. I was once again last.

"No changes again this week Mr Sawyer?"

"No sir, again I didn't see the need."

"Given the overall state of the market and what you have invested in neither do I. Otherwise how are you holding up?"

"I'm hanging in and hoping that the worst has already taken place."

"That would be a good thing if it were true. Very well Mr Sawyer, have a good weekend."

I went and grabbed some lunch and hung around until it was nearly time for practice. I went and changed up and made my way out to the floor. Most everybody was there early. At 4 the coach came out and had us stretch for an extra long time after we had been away from the activity.

We all moved off to work on the different pieces of apparatus. Even though this was a closed session, I only did doubles today. I knew better than to push too hard.

About two hours later, the coach called us all in.

"Well gentlemen I'm not going to lie to you. You look pretty ragged, but better than I expected. Mandatory all day Saturday. We have a lot of work to do."
