After the usual 15 minute lecture reviews were held and I was once again last.

"Any changes Dennis?"

"No sir."

"Then off with you."

So I grabbed a sandwich and hit the bench as usual. People stopped just long enough to say hi and thankfully there weren't any questions asked today.

I eventually headed over to the rec center and got changed up for a work out. A fair amount of the team was there today even though this wasn't a scheduled practice. As we were stretching out Coach Warren came out and called us together.

"Just a heads up guys. Officially it is still no comment. The rumors that a lot of you have probably heard about how our supporters were treated after the meet are probably, for the most part, true. Dean Evans and the rest of the administration are planning to file a compliant with Kilbride and it will undoubtedly be submited to our governing body as well. Please keep that to yourselves as well until you hear about it through channels. Regardless, there is probably going to be some blowback from the guys at Kilbride. Don't comment, don't react in anyway. If a formal investigation is launched cooperate in every way, but again don't comment on it.

For now, get to work. We have 2 more meets and an all state to win this year."

So we did just that. After I ran most of my routines I headed for the pool. When I hit the whirlpool, Dana was there.

"I'm beginning to think this isn't worth it any more Den."

"Bullshit and you know it Dana. Just because somebody is a poor loser shouldn't be putting you off the sport."

"I suppose not. What have you heard about what happen to the others?"

"I've purposely not been listening Dana. I didn't see what happened and we all know how stories grow over the retelling. What has been reported?"

"Some of our guys got egged or water bombed on their way back to the buses. The buses themselves got paint balled. That's what can be proven. The verbal abuse got reported but unless somebody recorded it and hasn't come forward yet, there's no way to prove that."

"I guess Karl and our friends got out ahead of it all. Think the administration is going to follow through on a complaint?"

"I have no doubt in my mind that they will and we'll probably all have to recount everything from the moment we got off of the bus."

"Well that won't be hard to do. How much bull do you think we'll have to put up with for the rest of the year?"

"No matter what happens I'm sure the guys fron Kilbride will be running their mouths."

"Think they might try to sabotage our last two meets or the all state?"

"There might be a chance if our last two meets were away but they're both here. The allstate, hell I'm thinking there is just going to be too damn much security for them to even try, if they get there."

"Pretty big 'if' at this point. Didn't we fairly well knock them out of it when we beat them?"

"They could still make it if they take these last two meets and all of the other 'favorites' mess up. Personally I don't give them much of a chance. I'm outta here."

"Later Dana."

I sat there for a few minutes more and then hit the showers, called Karl and headed back to the apartment.

I had no sooner got into the apartment then my phone started ringing. The caller ID said Trenton, D.

"Hello?"

"Hey big brother what the hell is going on?"

"In general?"

"Hell no specifically. Drake and I have been trying to keep tabs on the squad and saw a report of misconduct involving the them."

"I'm not allowed, right now, to say anything about it Doug, other than the conduct that is in question was perpetrated against us."

"Not according to the report I read. It says your squad purposely delayed the meet and disrupted the rythmn of them."

"That's already been dealt with by the governing body. They dismissed the charge against us."

"Something which wasn't reported."

"I bet if you can check the origins of that report it'll trace back to somebody with a connection to Kilbride."

"Probably. You holding up otherwise?"

"Yeah I'm fine at this point."

"Then I'll let you go. Must be almost time for dinner out there?"

"Just about. You guys take care."

"For your 'little' brother to have heard the story must be really getting around."

"Maybe, but remember that he was looking specifically for it as well. I doubt like hell this is going to be a national story lover."

"Yeah probably not. Supper's ready."

We had our meal and then spent a couple of hours at the books before calling it a night.

Wednesday morning and we were at it again. We got our run in without any complications and headed back to the apartment. I took a minute to check my emails while Karl was showering.

Please come to the Deans office at your earliest convienence.

"Crap!"

"What?"

"I need to stop by the Deans office."

"Probably just wants your account of what happened."

"I don't see where it's going to be much different than anybodyelses."

"It may just be that he's had more contact with you Den and knows he can take your word."

"Maybe. Get it in gear so I can get going please."

I was soon enough into the shower and ready to get to classes. I paid as much attention as I could muster today, as the meeting with the dean was on my mind. I quickly got my sandwich between classes and then instead of hanging out I went over to the deans office.

"Mrs Humboldt."

"Have a seat Mr Sawyer. Dean Evans should be with you just as soon as he finishes this call."

I sat an it was only a minute or so before I noticed the phone light go off. Mrs Humboldt let the dean know I was waiting.

"Thank you for coming by so quickly Dennis. I'm sure you can guess why I asked you to stop by?"

"I'm thinking it has something to do with this past weekend?"

"Precisely. I'd like your account of things."

I explained, in as much detail as possible, just exactly what happened from the time we arrived and the particulars of the meet as well.

"Pretty much exactly what everyone else has said, though your version has a few details I hadn't heard before. Thank you for your time Dennis. I believe you have a class to get to."

"Yes sir."

I wasn't about to press him for any details about what he was considering, so I headed for my last class. Once it was over I checked the car and headed back to the apartment.

I was home well before Karl today and got something going for supper. Karl pulled in a while later.

"How'd your meeting with the Dean go?"

"Pretty much as you thought. He did say I gave him some details the hadn't heard before."

"Did he indicate which way the wind was blowing as far as lodging a complaint?"

"Nope, but I'm pretty sure one is going. Which probably means that Kilbride will be making all kinds of accusations and whatever, without actually taking credit for saying so."

"To what end?"

"Well, there is an outside chance that they'll make it to the all state. If we went in discouraged or under a cloud of unfavorable press, it could affect the outcome of the meet."

"Affect the outcome of the meet? Den does this have a familiar sound to it?"

"Andros? I'm doubting it like hell, but I suppose not beyond the realm of possibility."

"Going to run it by Stimson?"

"Not without a hell of a lot more to back it up. I'm sure he has more important things to do."

"Yeah I suppose you're right. Supper almost ready?"

"Yeah just a few."

After we ate it was the books for a couple of hours, then a bit of TV before we crashed.

Friday morning came with the sound of rain against the roof, and it was obvious that we wouldn't be jogging today. I rolled over for another bit of sleep.

We eventually got up and got ourselves in gear for the day. It was into classes and the usual thing.

Word did come down that an official compliant had been sent to Kilbride. When I went to lunch it was still raining, so I sat inside the student union, literally waiting to be found by Bob Watson. I didn't have to wait long.

"Dennis, anything to say?"

"Bob, I'm not saying anything because sure as God made little green apples, others will find a way to twist it."

"Others, you mean Kilbride?"

"I didn't say that."

"Ok I get it. You're forestalling a slander suit."

I just nodded.

"This is a copy of the compliant that is being sent to Kilbride. Is there anything in it which you would care to add to or dispute?"

I took the sheet from him and read it.

"This appears to be an accurate summation of what happened. Other than that no comment."

"Am I going to get the same answer from everybody on the team?"

"More than likely."

At which point his phone buzzed with an incoming message.

"Seems the Dean wants to see me."

"Good luck with that. I need to get to my last class."

I took off to Risk/Rewards, which was gotten through without a problem.

I was on my way to the car when I saw Bob Watson again, looking somewhat pissed.

"Bob?"

"I've been oh so politely requested not to write about this whole compliant thing."

"The school just as concerned about a libel suit as I am slander?"

"That's about what it amounts to yeah."

"Can't say as I blame them. After the shooting last year, the lawsuit from it and the grades foul up, they don't need anymore bad press."

"I suppose not. Not like the national press is going to pick up on my story though."

I was looking over Bobs shoulder as what sure as hell looked like a press team was heading out way.

I pointed over his shoulder.

"Wanna bet?"
