I took a couple of more minutes to settle down and then I stood to go out to my car. Pete stood but didn't block my way.

"Thanks Pete I know you're only looking out for me."

"Just take it easy and let us know when you get there."

"I will I promise."

I gave Pete a gentle hug as I didn't want to aggrevate his ribs.

When I went to pull out of the garage,Aaron was standing there.

"So you want me to go with you to see Karl?"

"No,this is something I have to do alone and I don't want you calling him and telling him I'm coming do you understand?"

"Have it your way Den,but I'm telling you that you have nothing to feel guilty about."

"Tell that to my heart. Now let me get on my way."

Aaron stepped out of the way and I was off to the highway and a 5 hour drive to State. Traffic was heavy for some reason and I really had to pay attention to my driving, which was probably a good thing as it didn't give me much of an oppurtunity to think about the whole thing. Traffic got even worse as I neared the college. I finally understood why as I neared the gates. There were temporary signs along the road directing people where to go for the stadium. Seems it was a big basketball game and a perrennial advisary. The alumni was going to be thick here today.

I stopped at the gate and asked for directions to Karls dorm. I knew the number of his room so that wasn't a problem. I eventually found my way to his dorm and found a place to park.

With my heart in my throat I went to Karls room and knocked on the door.

"It's open."

But it wasn't Karls voice. I opened the door and stepped inside and found a guy sitting at a desk.

"You have got to be Dennis. I'm Paul,Karls roomie."

"Hi Paul and yes I am. Do you know where he is?"

"Where most everybody else on campus is,at the Bball game. I could really care less, especially with an exam coming up on Monday. Game should only be beginning so you've got a good hour, more like 2 to wait for him. You're welcome to wait here if you want."

"No I'll just go wait in my car. I don't want to disturb your studying."

"Suit yourself. Nice to finally meet you though. Karl carries on about you all of the time."

Which was just what I didn't need to hear. I made my way back to my car feeling even more wretched than I had before leaving that morning. I phoned home like I had promised and I could hear the relief in Petes voice.

"Just take a room for the night no matter how it turns out and drive safe on your way home."

"Thanks for caring Pete. I'll see you tomorrow at some point."

"Make damn sure that you do."

I texted Aaron that I was at the college just to put his mind at ease as well. I knew he was probably feeling a little guilty about the whole thing.

I must have fallen asleep at some point because there was Karl tapping on my window.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"I need to talk to you and it should be somewhere ..private,very private."

"Move over and let me drive."

Karl knew better than that. Nobody drove my car but me...ever.

"Karl, get in and give me directions. You know better."

"Yeah I suppose I should."

He went around and got into the passengers seat. He gave me directions off campus and we ended up on a dead end road in the middle of nowhere.

"We shouldn't be disturbed here until after dark. Now what the hell is going on?"

I proceeded to tell him how I had spent last night in detail.

"I felt so guilty this morning that I actually barfed my brains out. It was cheap and tawdry and I feel so damn guilty. I couldn't do this over the phone love. That would be the cowards way out and I don't deserve to get out of this that easy."

"Dennis, you have nothing to feel guilty about love. I knew damn well that something like this might happen when Aaron called me and told me he was taking out for the night. I didn't think you would get this upset over it. Dennis, this had to happen sooner or later. We both knew or at least should have known that you had to prove to yourself that what we have is not a mistake or a fling. Going out and nailing somebodyelse was the only way I could think of,but I wasn't going to force the issue. Aaron has done us a big favor love. Now you know and we can move forward."

"You're not pissed?"

By way of answer Karl took my head in his hands and pulled me into a kiss that lasted until we were both out of breath.

I could feel the tears rolling down my face. I knew at that point that I truly loved Karl.

"Now you can't very well stay in my room tonight so we had better find you a room. After dinner I am going to fuck you bowlegged lover."

It took a while but we finally found a place with an vacancy. The price was outrageous but we took it anyway.

The next morning we made our way back to my car and we were both walking a little funny.
