There was the expected grumbling, but nobody outright objected. I went and hit the pool for a few laps and then the whirlpool. Dana was there when I got there.

"So I have to assume that we're still alive for the all state?"

"Near as I can determine we are. Coach thinks so too."

"That's a load off my mind."

"So you think all of this bullshit is over Den?"

"Hell if I know, but I'm hoping. You heard anything else about that fire and explosion the other day?"

"Nope not a thing. Why you think it's tied into everything?"

"Dana, it took place in front of my frat. Of course I think it is tied in. What I can prove is something else."

"What can you prove?"

"Not a damn thing."

"So you think this kind of garbage is going to continue?"

"No idea. I think about the only thing left for them to try is more physical means. Let's face it, what they have done physically, has been pretty tame so far, with the exception of that bomb, if it was them. They could get downright nasty about it."

"And if that happens there's going to be hell to pay."

"Dana, I can see them completely shutting down the school, except maybe for remote classes."

"And not everybody across town could get away with that."

"Certainly not the med school or the agricultural college, everybody else might get by."

"Here's hoping that things stay quiet."

"Amen Dana."

Shortly after that I was out and changed and after checking the car over headed home. Karl had beaten me home tonight so had supper ready when I got there.

"So how was practice lover?"

"Coach thinks we're pretty raged. We have an all day Saturday."

"Damn he is worried. Think you guys will be ready for the meet before Christmas?"

"It's against Prescott, so I'm not too worried about it. If memory serves their best guys graduated last year."

"That doesn't mean the underclassmen couldn't have raised their games over the summer love."

"True enough but I haven't heard any "buzz" about their team so far this year."

"Have you heard any buzz on any of the teams yet this year?"

"Only thing I've heard is that Crookshank is having a damn good year, Sounding like they may well be the competition come the all state."

"And what do you hear about Dresmere?"

"That they've completely fallen apart, but I'm not believing it. They were pretty solid without those two freshmen that flunked out. With those two gone and those that graduated they've had to rebuild damn near half their team. It may just be that they are taking a bit to hit their stride."

"I suppose."

We finished our supper and got things cleaned up and hit the books until we crashed out.

Friday morning rolled around cloudy, but it wasn't raining. We were off to campus and did our laps with the guys. It was good to be able to do so again.

Back to the apartement and showered and fed and then back to campus for classes. When I got to the break between classes it was lightly raining so I had my lunch inside the student union today, which didn't stop people from stopping by.

Pete and Susan looked to be in a much better mood now that restrictions had been somewhat lifted.

"Things getting back on track for you two?"

"To some degree yeah. The dusk to dawn is still a pain in the ass but at least we have some time to be together outside of class."

"Pete says we're going to sneak away for the weekend right after class."

"Something you're going to be able to get away with?"

"I checked the "fine print". As long as were not out and about the campus proper, we're covered."

"That little tidbit gets around and the campus will be a ghost town by 5 pm."

"Oh believe me it has gotten around and I don't give until that late for it to happen. We've got to get it in gear. Later Den."

Carlton and Devon stopped by next.

"Damn nice to be able to be outside again, even if it is raining. You hear anything about why the let up on us?"

"I haven't heard a thing. I'm sure word will leak out from somewhere shortly though."

"Who cares why so long as it holds Dev."

"Yeah I suppose. We need to get going. See you around Den."

I soon enough had to get my own ass in gear and get over to Risk/Rewards. The class went by without any problems and I headed for my car. As I went across campus, I did notice the place was looking a bit deserted.

I gave the car a good looking over and then headed home. There wasn't any "reception committee" waiting for me today.

So it was upstairs and getting something started for supper. Karl showed up at about the usual time.

"Hey lover, anything happen today?"

"Not to me, though it looked like there were several people moving out of the dorms this afternoon."

"People getting out before another lockdown?"

"Maybe, but not by the look I saw on some faces, and there were security guys standing by."

"That doesn't sound good at all. Shit, we better brace for a long weekend lover."

"Why what are you thinking?"

"That those behind the whole movement have been found out and sent packing."

"Crap that would get things stirred up. Back to being paranoid?"

"Who stopped?"

"There's been no word from the school and they would have made some kind of statement wouldn't they?"

"I would have thought so. Shit get the news on lover."

"In other news today, we have an update on that story from State. The offical statement reads in part,'....Several students, whose names are being withheld, have been dismissed from school citing violations of the schools non harrassment policies.'

We believe that these are the same students who brought suit against a fraternity on campus.

In other news....."

Karl turned the news off.

"Think the damn reporters will be back in the morning?"

"Of course they will be Karl, and it is still no comment."

Almost as if they had been waiting for the news report, my phone started ringing. I let them all go to voicemail. The computer wasn't any better.

"I just hope I can make it into the practice tomorrow."

"I'm sure the coach will understand if you don't."

"He may understand but he called a mandatory. I miss one and he has to at least suspend me for a meet. He can cut me from the team entirely, not that I think he would."

"Yeah I'm doubting that unless he really needed to make an example of somebody."

"So am I lover but I'd just as soon not put him in that position to begin with."

We settled in and had our supper and did a little book work before calling it a night.

Saturday came in cloudy once again. Once we fought our way through the reporters, Karl and I got to campus and did our laps with the guys. Karl headed home, but I grabbed a little breakfast at the cafeteria and then headed over to the rec center. A good number of the team were here already warming up.

Coach got there right at 10 am and it was right to work, and work us he did. It was one of the toughest practices we had ever had. We broke for lunch and I headed over to the student union and grabbed a sandwich and a drink.

Soon enough I was back to the rec center and waiting on the other guys to get back. Greg, one of the two new guys to the team, walked over to me.

"So is this worth the effort or are we already out of the allstate?"

"As far as anybody can tell me we're still good to go, so yes it is worth it. It would be worth the effort even if we weren't going to the all state Greg. There's still the season itself to worry about."

"Yeah I suppose."

"Hey you at least have three more years to get a shot at it. This is my final shot."

"Yeah so you've said before. Well here's hoping at least."

About this time to coach showed back up.

"Alright you guys, let's get it in gear and run this all again."

So we got at it. 4pm and the coach called it a day.

"You guys are looking a hell of a lot better than you did on Thursday. I know it is weighing on some people minds so here's the official word as of right now. We are still going to the all state in May. From the looks of things state wide, it looks at this point that it will come down to us,Crookshank, and Aldean Tech from the other side of the state. We see Crookshank after the New Year. Aldean we will have to meet in May. Now go do whatever it is you do once you're done here."

For me that was a few laps in the pool and hitting the whirlpool. Laps today were done with Gordon and Aiden and they even came back to the whirlpool with me.

"So how is the team looking Den?"

"They're looking pretty good as far as I can see Gordon. Next meet isn't until just before Christmas so we have time to work on things."

"Your triples holding up?"

"Yeah hit them all today and landed solid."

"Who is the next up?"

"That's going to be Prescott and it is an away meet Aiden."

"If memory serves, they were right there with you guys last year Den."

"Yeah but word is their best guys graduated last year, and I haven't heard a lot about them so far this season, so they aren't having and outrageously good season to date."

"Well here's hoping they fall apart after Thanksgiving."

"We can always hope Aiden, but I'm not counting on it."

We were into shower after that and I went and checked the car over before I headed home. There were still reporters out front when I got there. I just hoped they wouldn't be there tomorrow when Paul and Cam got here for dinner.
