It was subtle and I damn near missed it. There were nails set against all four tires. If I had backed up without checking they would have been driven right through. I figured it was pretty useless to try and get fingerprints off of the nails as they had probably been handled by at least a dozen people.

I collected them anyways and then went around the car once again a little more carefully. I didn't find anything else,so headed home.

When I got to the apartement I was surprised to see Pauls car there and then it struck me. He was home for Thanksgiving. With all of the shit that had been going on I had completely forgotten. I still hadn't heard from Cameron if he was headed out with us or not. The question answered itself when they both came out of the house.

"Guess that means you're staying here Cam?"

"Yeah I am, but thanks for the offer."

"Ok then. Karl and I will be crashing early and heading out in the morning."

"You guys be safe and we'll see you Sunday night."

I was upstairs and got something going for supper and quickly took a look around to see if there was really anything that I needed to take home with me. Karl was there shortly after.

"I can't believe I forgot about Thanksgiving. Is there anything you need to take home with us?"

"Not a damn thing except you Den."

"Ok then supper will be ready soon and then we can crash and head out early and hopefully avoid a little bit of traffic."

"Not counting on that one Den,even though campus looks pretty deserted at this point."

"Yeah but we both know there will still be plenty of people traveling tomorrow and Thursday."

"So we just take it easy and we get there when we get there. Not like they're going to rent the house out from underneath us."

"Yeah but I'd still like to see us off the road as early as possible."

"So we get up at the regular time, grab a drive through breakfast and with any luck should be home around noon."

"Sounds like a plan to me lover."

So it was out to our supper and we crashed in front of the tube for a couple of hours and then hit the sack.

Wednesday morning and the alarm was going off and we were up and took quick showers. We were out of the driveway and headed for the interstate. We hit one of the franchises for a drive through breakfast and were then on the road. Us and way too many people with the same idea.

Luckily though it was slow, traffic kept moving and it was a little after 1 when we finally pulled into our driveway. Mrs Ohanlon was still here.

"Well aboout time you lads got here. We was beginning to ave our doubts."

It was then that I spotted Bobbie waiting in ambush for us. I grabbed him up as he tried to tackle me, seeing as I was first into the house.

"Damn you're getting big Bobbie. Won't be able to get away with this for very much longer."

"We'll always get away with it Denny."

Bobbie let go of me and then tacklehugged Karl.

"I've missed you guys."

"We've missed you to. I suppose we had better get over to my house Den."

"Oh I have no doubt everybody is waiting on us."

So it was over to Karls house to be greeted by Gert and Connie as Stan was still at work.

"Well you boys don't look any the worse for wear given all that has been going on."

"Only on the outside Gert. I don't know about Karl, but I sure as shooting need this break from the whole mess."

"Oh I don't doubt that in the least. Why don't you two go relax and we'll see you back here for supper at 6."

Which is just what we did, or at least that was our intention. A couple of hours later the doorbell rang. I went to find it was Aaron standing there.

"Hey guys, we heading out tonight?"

"And just where would we be heading to?"

"Either Mannies or club Mann I would think."

"Honestly Aaron, with all of the shit we've been putting up with,we were just going to relax for the next few days."

"Yeah I can appreciate that. I've been keeping tabs on what has been going on up there, and I bet I've only heard about half of the shit that has been happening."

We were out on the patio by the pool by this time.

"Yeah, no matter what you've heard it probably doesn't give you any idea of what living in the situation is really like."

"I'm sure it doesn't Karl. Having to be looking over your shoulder all of the time has got to be wearing."

"You have no idea Aaron. So not tonight at least and probably not tomorrow night either."

"And I'm thinking not Saturday night if you have to drive back on Sunday. So Friday night?"

"We'll think about it. You and Roland still jogging in the morning?"

"Damn right we are and we expect to see you tomorrow, and until you have to head back."

"We'll be there, count on it."

We shot the breeze with Aaron for a while before he hit the road. I saw Mrs Ohanlon on here way for the long weekend and right at 6 we were through the gate and over to Karls house. Stan was home by this time and it was handshakes all around.

"So you boys holding up ok?"

"So far Stan. I just hope the whole thing is over now that two seperate investigations have not found anything."

"Yeah you'd think that would be enough. Well with a few days for the whole thing to cool down, we can certainly hope."

It was a quiet dinner with the family and a couple of hours of hanging out and then Karl and I were back to our place for the night.

Bright and early the alarm went off and Karl and I were up and out to find Aaron and Roland waiting on us.

"Well good to see the old married couple."

"It's good to be seen Roland. How's the job going?"

"Just fine. I'm doing a lot of weddings for some reason."

"I'm sure word got around after the outstanding job you did on ours."

"Yeah I suppose. Well let's get this done."

So it was down to the park and our laps around and then back towards home. We did see Dana Pembrose just long enough to wave to.

Karl and I got our showers and then it was over to his house for breakfast with the family and then we settled in for the parade. As usual Connie and Gert checked in from time to time. After the parade we all grabbed a quick snack to hold us until the main meal and then it was back into the den for football.

Gert had timed it well so that the main meal was ready just as the game ended. We gathered around the table and joined hands.

"Dear lord we thank you for keeping us safe and for the bounty we are about to recieve, amen."

Dinner was the traditional turkey with all of the fixings and once again deep dish apple pie ala mode for dessert.

Once we were done eating, Karl and I helped get things cleaned up and were shortly back over to our house. It didn't take to long for us to crash out tonight and we were up and at it Friday morning with Aaron and Roland. We were almost back home when Aaron spoke up.

"So we heading out tonight or what?"

"What the hell, why not, Den?"

"Yeah I suppose so but let's go to Mannies and not the strip club."

"Sounds fine to me guys. See you about 8?"

"Yeah sounds fine to me and I'll be the DD again. I still have meets to worry about. Roland you coming with?"

"No I have an event tomorrow so I had better not."

"Alright then I'll see you guys at 8."

Karl and I headed into the house and showered up and had our breakfast. Not long after that we headed over to his house and spent the morning and better part of the afternoon just horseing around with Bobbie.

Gert had supper for us right at 6 and then Karl and I were over to our house and grabbed showers and were ready to head out when Aaron got there at 8.

When we got to Mannies the place was packed with folks home from college and this years batch of seniors. Pete was there looking a little miserable without Susan being around. We saw Dirk and a fair amount of his crew, who only waved to us. Friends, both straight and gay, flowed by the booth we had managed to grab. Even Mercer was there, but he didn't come over and speak to us. I kind of wish he had though. It had to be damn hard for him with members of the old high school team about tonight. It was a pretty uneventful night as far as being at any kind of club. For once we made it home without incident.

I got the house locked up and soon enough Karl and I were in bed and comfortable for the night.

As much as we didn't want to on this Saturday morning,Karl and I were up and ready to go jogging. We met Aaron and Roland and headed down to the park. There were a few people about his morning for a change. We all just ran our laps and pretty much ignored each other. We were soon enough back on our way up the street towards our houses. Once again Dana waved to us as he drove by. So showered and fed we once again took some time with Bobbie today.

Lunch and dinner were had with the family today much as you would expect. Karl and I headed back to the house for the night.

Sunday we were up and out with the guys as usual. Back to the house and we showered up and then headed over to Karls for breakfast. Soon it was time to say goodbye for another month when we would be home for Christmas.

I made sure the house was locked up and Karl and I headed back to campus. It was a slow drive as everybody was trying to get home from the long weekend.

We finally pulled into the apartment about 3 in the afternoon. Paul and Cam appeared to still be here. So it was upstairs to get settled and then down to the usual supper and to hear if anything had happened over the long weekend.
