That simple sentence had me instantly concerned. I got on the phone and it rang straight through to Stans office.

"What's the word Stan?"

"The word is run, don't walk to the nearest exit out of this deal. You read it exactly right Dennis, but over and above that Dirk would be dealing with people that I'm sure he would rather not if he knew who they were."

"You want to give that to me in english please?"

"Grandview is the top most layer of half a dozen holding companies and shells that lead back to Teramedies Holding company. The sole owner is Andros Teramedies. You probably wouldn't remember when your dad tangled with him over a couple of deals. Your dad was convinced this guy was a 'made man' if you get my drift."

"I think I do,but suffice to say dad didn't do business with him which should be good enough for anybody I would imagine."

"You got it Dennis. I'd tell Dirk to run just as fast as he can away from this deal."

"Just as soon as we hang up Stan. Thanks for the quick action. One more thing,is this guy likely to ...take umbrage that Dirk says no?"

"They don't usually do things like that anymore. Too many people watching from different agencies, but you might warn Dirk anyway."

"Ok Stan thanks again."

I hung up and dialed Dirk at the dealership.

"I'm sorry but Mr Chambers is not available at this time."

"Please check again and tell him it's Mr Sawyer and important."

"One moment please I'll check."

I waited for a few seconds.

"I'm sorry Mr Sawyer, but Mr Chambers is not on the premises."

"Thank you. If he should return tonight please have him call me. He has my number."

I hung up and things didn't feel right at all. I knew that Dirk was waiting for me to call. I fired off an email to his private account and then tried his private cell phone number. It went straight to voice mail. I left him a message there.

By now it was time to go down to supper and Karl,Gordon,Aiden, and Pete were all there ahead of me.

"That matter from yesterday? I got an answer from Mr Bellows. I was more right then I knew at the time according to Stan."

"Do I really want to know love?"

"No you don't. But I can't get ahold of Dirk and he knew I would be calling him as soon as I could. He's not at the dealership and he's not answering his cell either. I'm honestly worried about it."

"Hey he could just be out hooking up or something. There are any number of reasons for him not to be picking up."

"Yeah I suppose so. Given all we've been through lately,I guess I'm still a little paranoid."

"Jeez Den if you told me a year ago that you'd ever be worried for Dirk I really would have thought you around the bend."

"A year ago I was still out of it Pete but I understand. You had to be there I guess to understand the change that has come over Dirk for one. For another you would have to know about the guys he is dealing with. Suffice to say the guy and dad didn't see eye to eye on business."

"In that case I think I'd be worried for Dirk as well love."

"Who is this Dirk guy?"

"Let's just say that he used to be a pain in the posterior Gordon. I had some legal problems with him,but I did something that made him change his outlook a little bit and let's leave it at that."

Aiden didn't say anything but I could tell from the look on his face that he had a pretty good idea of the type.

We all finished eating and Karl and I went for a bit of a walk until it started getting dark. We found a place for our good night kiss and went to our rooms. I hit the books, but I doubt that one out of every ten words actually registered as I was getting more and more concerned about Dirk not having called.

Pete could easily see that I was distracted.

"You might just as well give it up Den. Dirk will call when he calls and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it."

"Knowing that doesn't make it any easier Pete. From what Stan Bellows said the guy who is floating this deal is 'connected'. My dad wouldn't do business with him. Granted I don't remember my dad at this point still;but I got the word when I was working there incognito. Dad was as straight as any arrow that ever flew if I can believe what I heard around the shop."

"Well if you truely were incognito there sure as hell wasn't any reason for them to lie to you."

"True enough. I guess I won't truely ever know until I either get my memory back or really get to dig into the business."

I gave up on trying to study and went to checking my email. A little while later my phone rang. It was Dirk.

"Hey I just got the message. I was...um... occupied."

"Just as long as that all it was. Listen,my best advice is to drop this deal in the toilet and get away from the principals. I had the business do a little digging and Grandview is like the top layer of an onion. When you peel it down and get to the base of it it is a company called Teramedies Holding, which is is owned by Andros Teramedies. That name mean anything to you?"

"Yeah it does. Dad almost got in bed with the guy about 5 years ago. For whatever reason dad didn't and he told me never to get involved with the guy."

"Apparently my dad had the same type of experience. Regardless of that the deal is a setup, and I'm surprised your own lawyers didn't catch it. Specifically in appendix c they never set any guidelines on how to measure their expectations. Legally they could make them as outrageous as they want and you'd be out on your ear in 5 years."

"I knew it was to good to be true,I just couldn't see it. Thanks Dennis. Hey what's the word on Larry?"

"Last he was seen he was being hauled away by the feds. Beyond that I have no idea."

"Sounds like he really put is foot in it this time."

"Up to his kneecaps. I have a feeling there might be some local charges waiting for him once the feds are done with him."

"Do I want to know?"

"He allegedly had somebody tamper with my brakes. The guy got caught and spilled his guts. Both me and the car will be fine."

"Shit that boy is going to end up hurting. If you have any way I'd make sure that you get notified when he gets released."

"Not going to worry about for a long time I think."

"Ok Den. Thanks again and take care."

Now that Dirk had called I could rest a lot easier I got back to my studies until my phone buzzed with Karls text. I texted back and was shortly asleep.

5:45 and I was up for my jogging. Gordon met me downstairs and we picked Karl up on our first lap. Karl was winded but he finished all 5 laps today. Back upstairs and the ususal routine of shower and breakfast then off to classes on this Tuesday.

After classes it was over to the gym for my first "official" workout with the team. I worked all of the stations in rotation and when we were all done I went with everyone to the coach for notes.

"Dennis, you're looking pretty good but you need to point your toes a little straighter when you're doing your flair work on the pommel and you need to try for a little more height on your vault. That will give you the time to get your feet under you so you don't step out on your landing."

If those were the only notes the coach had for me I had done better than I thought I had. A few of the guys made some good job type comments as we headed for the showers. I had a corner pretty much to myself, and I could understand that seeing as I had openly admitted to the team I was gay. Gary finally came into the shower, looked at what was going on and purposely came to the shower next to me and just started talking as he showered. It looked like the guys got the hint and things spread out a little.

Later I was dressed and leaving the gym and Gary came out beside me.

"You didn't have to do that Gary, but thanks just the same."

"You're wrong Dennis I did have to do that otherwise the team might never get it through their heads that you are just as much a member of the squad as any of them."

"You may be right but the chances that I'll get any action are pretty slim aren't they?"

"Yeah we're a pretty healthy bunch and we're also pretty careful so we don't tend to have injuries."

"So I'll be the cheering squad, speaking of which, what do you think of the idea of getting a motor coach to take students to Pemberton for the meet?"

"Hey I'm all for it but there isn't any money in the budget for it."

"What if somebodyelse footed the bill?"

"Yeah I know a few of the girlfriends that would sure as hell go. I think you have to run that by coach at least if not somebody higher up as well."

At that point coach came out of the building and I put it to him.

"Fine by me,but you'll have to run it by the dean of men and then it is up to him to take it to the full board if he likes the idea."

"Guess I'd better make an appointment to see the dean then."
